You need the sec update in order to update to miui 12, it is a requirement

Seems like there isn’t a miui 12 firmware for the k20 or mi 9t yet. Just checked on xiaomi firmware updater. As for the k20 pro or mi 9t pro, there is miui 12 global, china and eu firmwares. Some said that the may 2020 security patch was necessary before receiving the miui 12 update. Personally on my mi 9t pro global i had miui 11 V11.0.4.0 QFKMIXM with the april 2020 security patch before receiving miui 12 V12.0.1.0. I got the may 2020 patch within the miui 12 update and not before.

Global MIUI 12 isn’t out for this phone yet. Updating the phone manually isn’t wrong or unofficial, generally speaking, this is what I wanted to say. Well, if you want xiaomi.eu rom based on the chinese rom, that’s another story.

As far as i know everything runs smoothly for me. The new animations are much better, in display fingerprint scanner unlocks faster. Face unlock with the pop up camera is faster and doesn’t have a delay when popping the camera out. only thing I noticed is that the gestures bugs out when switching launchers. I use the poco launcher and when switching back to the default launcher, gestures are conflicting and sometimes not working at all. Really not a big deal for me and will surely be fixed in a later patch. Overall my mi 9t pro feels much faster and smoother.
