After my experience with Huawei \(long story short, an OTA update bricked my phone, Huawei’s method of recovering the device doesn’t work, and had to go to a service center just fix a problem that I could deal myself if they provided the downloadable firmware\). Oh and the fact that, Huawei would [no longer unlock bootloaders](https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/8ls6ud/huawei_will_no_longer_offer_bootloader_unlocking/) on new devices.
With Xiaomi, not only their devices are cheap, but they still unlock bootloaders, and they provide a downloadable firmware that you can flash through fastboot. Oh and if you hard brick your device, there’s still edl.
Due to these circumstances, I’ve sold my Honor 9 Lite, and just ordered myself a Redmi 5 Plus.
You forgot to mention the moronic 30-day or so period before you can unlock the bootloader.
360 hours / 15 days for Redmi 5 Plus.
Yeah I had issues where I my Note 4 got stuck in a power loop. don’t know what to do now.
Phone was amazing when it worked.
Mine was 20-something days, but that’s not the point.
The point is, why in the world?
Nexus 6P was a disaster? I only ever heard good things about it from all my friends who owned it (especially about the camera)
Wasn’t this removed? Or at least it should have been for global firmwares/models.
Ah so thats why I couldn’t unlock my bootloader for mine. I only got it yesterday.
>why in the world?
It’s a measure to prevent vendor ROMs, which used to plague imported Xiaomi phones from resellers. Basically with that kind of waiting time, it’s impossible for resellers to change the ROM to an unofficial one for more than a dozen phones.
Good thing to know, I might still buy that Mi8 if the Google Cam works on it.
I paid out of me own dime to get the Gcam ported over to Mi6.
Yes, it was removed. I got the message to unlock the phone in less than 2 hours.
> how come the bootloader my device was already unlocked?
Because for the reseller to install their custom variant of MIUI, they have to unlock the bootloader. The phone may very well be ‘new’, only having the seal removed by the reseller in order to install the custom rom. Could be they unlocked it through the Mi Unlock approval process, or they used some kind of exploit to avoid the verification process.
> What is point of installing vendor ROM for resellers?
Depends. Some add additional languages to the Chinese MIUI versions before the global rom is released for new phones, plus they probably include \(or manually flash\) Google apps, which are not included in chinese MIUI versions out of the box. Some more malicious intents include installing adware on the phone, \(presumably\) creating an additional source of income for the resellers.
When I got the A1 I thought the delay applied so I started using is without unlocking it. Now I regret it because I can’t really back the phone up properly (titaniumbackup) without root lol
I really like Xiaomi, but they are by no means perfect. If it wasnt for support from others (xiaomi.eu etc) then the brand would be garbage.
Not anymore. Latest update wipes the device if you unlock it relock the bootloader.
Yup, I wipee the phone and when I reboot it just powercycles.
That’s my point. Xiaomi havent really done anything to win you over, they just havent fucked you over by stopping external developers from loading ROMs
Theyve made a high quality hardware product, with poor software. If it wasnt for the developers, Xiaomi would be trash outside china.
In Mexico the only carrier that sells the Redmi 5 Plus is selling it with the bootloader already unlocked. They unlock it to remove the IMEI for the second SIM slot, idk why.
If you want to use both SIM slots you must flash a non-MIUI rom :/
And this is with Xiaomi’s approval
Careful now, you’re in xiaomi subreddit. There miui fanboys left and right who gonna shit on you and say miui is better.
Read the other redditor comment.
The battery issue came from the motherboard. Who made it?
ah, and now you need to XXX hours to unlock Redmi 5 Plus.
and when you reset your phone, you will need to wait 360 hours again.
Got a note 4 and a mi6 recently and took 72h for the note. The MI6 was unlocked already. I understand the security risk but I’m flashing them anyway and replacing whatever they bring so it was quite convenient to arrive unlocked.
can you help… i have a completely bricked Mi4.. what caused that i flashed windows 10 mobile on it then when I tried to reflash emui on it what I’ve done is boot into recovery before connecting the phone to mi flash and i choosed the option number 9 which is mass storage on BDS and i have no idea what this means but i found it on thread online.. since then the phone went black all the way no any sign of life, no boot no recovery or fast boot mode just completely blacked out device… please help me if you can…
thanks
xiaomi start fake presale for mi note 5 pro to collect money with out interest and not deliver it on time.
A tiny detail that won me over was that they gave a really nice phone case with my Mi Mix 2. And I’m not talking about any old case, this is legit the sturdiest, most high quality phone case I’ve held in my hand ever.
For some reason, it seems like my account I made when I got my Mi Mix 2 in the mail was pre-approved. So there’s a little inconsistency in their methods.
It is at the very least better than EMUI. So far I haven’t had the urge to chug my phone off of a plane like I did when I had a Huawei.
The Redmi series is pretty fucking great in terms of value and build quality. Right now no other company can touch it.
The Redmi 5\+ still looks good to me, IMO. In black at least.
Fully agree with that one.
I don’t usually rock cases but that one is pure bliss.
Couldn’t agree more.
I’m rocking lineage os on my Mix 2 while my wife runs the same on her Mix 1.
in india they do not provide cod option for mi note 5 pro
Awesome, I just bought a Redmi 5 Plus for my dad and I really wish I had got one for myself, I have a Redmi 3 pro but the lack of updates is a bit unfair, I thought we were getting MiUi 10 but it looks like we are not which is a major bummer
