They do the same with CPU speed so not surprising
For the actual moment we have proof of RAM speed being limited, after i tested it out i was shocked, having a LPDDR5 reaching ~40GB/s, after limitation it becomes 20GB/s, it’s like we have a 2 older generations RAM (LPDDR4)
but do they do that to improve battery life/decrease temps or do they do that in updates as a way to force you to purchase another phone? has this been proven?
And xiaomi is rude enough not to apologize. Is this a kernel related thing or is it solved by other custom roms? Any opinions?
Before you check this link (https://web.vip.miui.com/page/info/mio/mio/suggestDetail?postId=37159261&app_version=dev.20220422&ref=share) where the first user has noticed these shocking results, there isn’t a thing such as limiting RAM speed to more than a half of it’s performance to improve battery life, when you have an advanced technology (such as LPDDR5), you can’t implement it without having done studies and tests, and at the link above at the comments section you will see by yourself how a Redmi K20/Mi 9T using LPDDR4X has no limitation and scoring 30GB/s, and it’s battery performance is good, and other Xiaomi devices are doing well, because this isn’t affecting all models, and after digging a bit on the test app (A1 SD Bench) i could see the last 100 POCO F3 RAM speed tests, and guess what ? I found that speeds have a range from 5GB/s to 20GB/s that literally means that there are people with the same phone as mine having lower speed ram, and we’re all having very bad RAM speed, the expected speed/bandwidth is ~44GB/s
I’m already using Xiaomi.eu latest stable rom 13.0.5, and i think it’s a lock on the kernel, because the user who reported this, said that he couldn’t increase the ram frequency and it must be a lock in the kernel, you can check my reply above this comment
I’ve read it, and I’ve read the page you’re referring to, thanks. I can’t find a word for the company’s situation other than being grotesque and pathetic. The company is violating the users’ rights to convince them to buy more expensive phones. Hope it gets better bro.
I wish i can sue them
MEMEUI Enhancer ?
Xiaomi released an update which dramatically slowed down the Redmi K50 (dimensity 8100 chipset) shortly after launch as well. Is it achieving this in the same way?
What is this shit again, they’ve done so many things to miui to the point that it’s becoming a total joke, and now this…
Changing rom won’t change a thing, it’s locked in kernel
It doesn’t affect all models but it’s still an evil thing to do
You can download A1 SD Bench from play store and do a ram test and check the speed, but i don’t think your model has it’s RAM speed slowed
Those tests could be wildly inaccurate. I’ll wait for my reports before drawing a conclusion. I can’t imagine a company shipping with a more expensive type of ram, o lt to limit it.
Glad to hear that.
That’s the sad truth
Are you serious ?
what is the reason behind this? what does Xiaomi want to achieve by slowing down phones?
Making people buy new models instead 😅
It really isn’t. One user’s account doesn’t cement the truth. Why aren’t they using different test suits?
I think you should read my replies on the comments above
Sure
> I found that speeds have a range from 5GB/s to 20GB/s that literally means that there are people with the same phone as mine having lower speed ram, and we’re all having very bad RAM speed, the expected speed/bandwidth is ~44GB/s
Aka, this test is ^wildly inaccurate.
The company behind the test app is TUXERA, leading provider of storage and networking technologies, from the latest flagship smartphones, to cars, cameras, routers and drones.
I think you should see who they are working with/for (Xiaomi is there too 🙂 )
And why the hell in the world only some models are affected, such as POCO F3, Mi 10T (that I’m sure of).
And just lately (last 2 weeks) i started noticing that i really have a very low speed management.
And the very respected Volskwagen group cheated in emissions tests. Don’t care if the queen made it herself.
Why don’t you give me the benchmark numbers for Antutu’s memory tests so we can at least have a perspective of another suit?
17 Gb/s for me :/
still doesn’t make sense, after a while people will go to another brand… it’s not like Apple with its iOS…people need iOS, people never needed MIUI :))))
I got my Xiaomi Mi 10t end of 2020, and never updated. Zero issues! Battery is great, smooth refresh rate, no crashes or slow downs. That’s why I don’t update the software of my phones.
LPDDR4 – Redmi Note 8 Pro
23495 MB/s
https://pasteboard.co/RqhZwO3mLgvl.png
Most oems nowdays use these kind of tactics.
I wouldn’t rule out benchmark inconsistencies due to what else runs in the background.
Mi11 i got 50,878.89MB/s there are a very few other benchmarks at this speed for my phone. A cluster of phones at around 39GB/s. And a bunch implausibly lower < 10GB/s
It’s a kernel thing, it will be the same with another rom :/
Is it possible that it is a fake lpddr5 ram?
Can you tell me how much you score on this test please?
Possibly the RAM extension feature caused the mixed results on MIUI 13. Not all phones support this feature, thus not all benchmark apps are compatible with this.
Like MediaTek in the last 🙁
are they doing similar to what apple did to their old iPhones ?
If it was a “kernel-related thing” as you put it, it can be fixed by custom ROMs.
I hope it is not common
It’s some devices, not all.
By a custom kernel, not a custom rom.
On or off, it’s the same result.
Most or pretty much all custom ROMs come with their own custom kernel. Unless you’re using GSIs, you will be changing your kernel for sure.
Ok. Forget I said anything 😂
Can you point me to a (good) custom rom with a custom kernel please?
I’m pretty much dead set on shifting… I’ve been a xiaomi user since my first real smartphone (Redmi Note 2) and remember being blown away by the idea that an android phone can be so smooth and responsive and have pleasing UI (before the RN2 I had only seen older Motorola Droids, Samsung’s CrapWiz, and an iPhone 4 and based my comparison on that). But over the years, xiaomi has just gotten shittier and shittier. Even on the Mi A3 that I’m currently using, what has stock android, the lack of quality control basically halfed my battery life (I did have my battery replaced), made the phone slow and at times unresponsive, and how can I ignore the random shut downs… and they continue to pull this kind of crap… Yeah I’m done with chinese brands that pump out 30 phones a year and don’t care for 90% of them afterwards…
Yeah the great MiUI Software Support. MIUI made me Switch to an refurbished iPhone. The software support is ridiculous
8 gb/s for me. (Mi 11). Like wtf
Any ROM that’s not a GSI will have a kernel compiled specifically for that ROM. LineageOS would probably be the most popular example. Here’s the kernel sources they compile for Alioth (i.e. Redmi K40 and similar devices): https://github.com/LineageOS/android_kernel_xiaomi_sm8250
Your definition of custom kernel might be a kernel specfically made for customization or tuned for gaming, but a kernel is custom as long as it’s not the exact same kernel as the one provided by the manufacturer. And that’s going to be true for every ROM that’s not a GSI. What that also means is that any “kernel change” made by Xiaomi can be reverted by developers of custom ROMs or even developers of just custom kernels (which is much much easier than entire ROMs).
Slowing RAM and other shit, nah, I would rather have another phone, if it continues like this then BYE XIAOMI
Really?
i just now used the app you mentioned to test my ram and it’s reporting 5gb/s on my redmi note 10 pro
seems a bit low to me
is this app reliable? i’m not sure how much it has to be updated to work correctly but the last update was on 2021
it also reports my evo plus sd card as 60mb/s read and 24mb write when it’s supposedly 100/90mb r/w
[see for yourself](https://ibb.co/x5qYqJZ)
Wtf Oo
Same here with Mi9T Pro. Just another reason to go with custom ROMs.
Ok, let’s see 🙂
Could with an Mi10t with lineage os do the test please and show us the results?
Mine is reporting 7.2 GB out of 8GB +3GB virtual…
Is it good?
Yup. it’s pathetic….
What app did you use to test the ram speeds?
A1 SD bench. (Like the one used in the article).
I got 21GBps for ram. Mi 9t
Typical shit they send our way as always
Custom rom all the way!!
Jesus, insane difference. Is the Mi 9T that better? I think the SoC is superior but 4x more ram speed is quite steep 😩
Nor iOS or better shit os way to simplistic and limiting
Ive no idea, i can only compre it to note5 which i held on to for 3 years.
I’ve used this for more than 2 years now and the only issues I have are the 1/3screen not responding to touch (happened maybe 5/6times), and the issue where you cant disable miui optimization (cant “share” objects/files between apps.
MIUI also takes a heavy toll on smooth performance. That’s why Pixel Experience UI is better than the stock ROM.
no wonder ive realized my phone speed is slow
On latest stable xiaomi.eu ROM and got 44gb with 11pro (11pro not 11t pro).
The Mi 9T isn’t affected by this, as reported by the first user, only few models are affected
I’m on custom rom, Xiaomi.eu latest stable rom 13.0.5 -_-
Isn’t a conspiracy theory enough for me?
No.
They actually did not, i just rechecked
redmi note 11 pro + 5g model working fine, 38,000MB/s
Mi 10 – 6963.26MB/s
Nice. I will just downgrade the kernel as well.
Yes.
You know what. I think I am done with xiaomi.
Not only this.
The fact that for some freaking reason, they cannot get Miui to run smoothly on the F3.
It always seems to fall back to 60hz or lower randomly. Then having to manually change it.
Battery life has always been rather shit too. All system UI components are laggy as shit most of the time, only after a restart it is smooth for a bit.
Amazeballs.
Isnt eu ro based on same global rom kernal?
Has anyone tried this test on fully open source rom platform like aosp arrow os?
Because it’s not Xiaomi, it’s some random crap benchmark. There’s a reason you don’t see this software used by serious reviewers.
İ was suspicious about latest upgrade(?) But i trusted xiaomi and downloaded miui13 i had 2 mistakes first one is i bought xiomi phone and the second one is upgrade my phone.
İf xiaomi wont fix this problem im going to sell my phone and never buy xiaomi products again!!!!
Realized that 👍🏻
Can you please do that and test ram speed again if there’s a change
I have just bought a Poco F3, what version of MIUI should I let it update to, to prevent this not happening?!
Which MIUI version do you have right now ?
It’s due to arrive today, so depends what version it ships with.
Yes, true, but once you get it, first thing to do, download ‘A1 SD Bench’ and ‘PassMark PerformanceTest’, and please share the results with me, and I’m pretty sure it has nothing to do with MIUI updates
So its current 12.5..8 but wants to go to 13.0.4.0.
Assume it’s best to ignore to prevent ram being throttled?
Go do a test on A1 SD Bench and send me a link with the screenshot
> Remove this post.
I’m confused.
You are?
The \_source\_ website that this post referenced has made an update regarding this matter stating that A1 SD Bench results are not accurate.
And removing this submission would help whom, or what?
I’m just stating the fact. I don’t care whatever happens to the post.
Yeah, strange request above from that user.
We’re not in the game of removing every blog post that updates later on stating they jumped the gun. If we did that, users trying to find clarification would then be left without information found in the comment section.
Your [source website](https://xiaomiui.net/xiaomi-slows-down-phones-users-want-your-support-24401/) has already been updated and the author admits that A1 SD Bench was not accurate.
I still believe they have good reasons to do this, but reading everything here and on other blogs, I feel like it’s just a marketing strategy or something.
Because honestly, I’m wondering why I’m experiencing lags on an 8GB smartphone and my friend using a ridiculously cheaper Infinix is rarely facing any lags whatsoever.
Bruh.. the website writer just shared a user feedback, and on the update he released now he just wants to keep people quiet..
