Seems like bias. UD scanner is objectively the best since your thumb is always above the screen. The least finger movement required and you can use it without holding the phone.

I picked up a a2 like 2 months ago and it’s my first fingerprint phone. I don’t see the problem with a back scanner. The only problem I have with it is when I’m driving and the phone is in a magnetic base so I can’t reach the scanner… But that’s also when I’m driving and looking at my phone isn’t a good idea anyway.

This front scanner hype is silly to me. Now, side scan like one plus did a while ago is a pretty good idea I think.

I *prefer* back fingerpringt scanner. Way more ergonomic to unlock through scanner, easier to hit with your finger, better hitrate… so far, having an under-display scanner is a non-starter for me.

The thing is to me, I’m comparing either well optimized stock android or battery saving MIUI phones side by side, not cross compared.

Therefore the mAh really does matter. The A series is NOT a true all day phone. The Pocophone and Max phones are definitely true all day phones that you never have to worry about charge for that day.

The extra 20-25% battery life actually matters a ton (the difference between a 3300 mAh phone and a 4000 mAh phone) because it means the difference between your phone being dead at 2am on a Saturday morning in the middle of grabbing an Uber after a Friday night out, or still having enough charge to get home.

For someone like me who travels a lot in foreign non-English speaking nation, I really love the Max series because heavy use of GPS and looking up stuff while abroad means my Max phones won’t die on me at the end of the day, while my Poco still struggles and my A2 is long dead.

I like the idea of an in display. Sometimes the phone is on a table and I just want to unlock it to look at something without picking it up.

Also it just feels that bit more magical.

I understand that but my point is optimization on phones is getting really good in general for the future. Phones with less mah like the Mi 9 are out lasting phones like the Poco F1 and note 7. This attitude of only looking at the mah is toxic.

How is that? Their Mi A2 is already getting pretty old…

I hope that they are also working on better software updates, since so far all 3 of their Android One phones have been plagued by major update-related issues.

AFAIK only AOSP is open source. Neither MIUI nor Android One are open source.

I don’t know why everyone is so obsessed with in-display fingerprint readers. I like it in the back!

This is false. I’ve watched a lot of battery life SIDE BY SIDE reviews. The Mi A series is not known for battery life.

Here’s why your example is bad: the Mi 9 runs on MIUI which is already on battery conservation by default versus stock Android on the Mi A series.

In testing the Mi 9 only actually lasts one day and has just short of 7 hours of screen on time when doing nothing but playing back video. The Poco easily lasts 8-9 hours of screen on time with video, 15% longer than the Mi 9 simply because it too is using MIUI and has battery conservation especially when both have MIUI’s variant of Adaptive Battery which came later but wasn’t present when the Poco F1 was initially released.

So it’s only good with MIUI only because MIUI is always on battery conservation but that doesn’t mean mAh doesn’t matter, in fact its still critical.

You’re basically arguing that the gas tank size on a car doesn’t matter. It does, even if the engines are to be more fuel efficient and to be very conservative.

Disagree. Pixel devices are made by Google, how can they have modified skin? Ofc do they have device – specific features but so do Android1 devices. Pixel android is the “purest” as it comes straight from Google. Android One updates come from Google, go through OEM( like Xiaomi) and only then come out . 😅

Agreed, the Pixel Experience ROM for Mi A2 works so well, it’s nearly flawless compared to the buggy stuff that Xiaomi put out. And Cam2API is enabled by default

I’m not sure if the article reveals that they would be Mİ A3. What I am referring is their constant supply of new models with only minor differences in such a short time period. I fear not only they spread their product range a bit too much but also moving too fast with their product lines. For instance, Redmi Note 5 feels like 3 years old due to Note 7 pro.

I have Samsung flash memory, so I wasn’t affected. But I can tell you that I/O feels much snappier with the PixelExperience, so I wound’t be surprised if the developer had it fixed (as it is rumored to be an issue with the I/O scheduler).

I had to install PixelExperience to finally get what I paid for in Android One. They should literally fire their team and hire that one guy to support the Mi A2. That one guy is achieving what Xiaomi couldn’t do in months!
