One of them is clearly MI A3
And the other remaining its Mi A3 lite
I hope that they are also working on better software updates, since so far all 3 of their Android One phones have been plagued by major update-related issues.
Me too. I predict it’s going to be a flop if even Samsung can’t get it right.
I picked up a a2 like 2 months ago and it’s my first fingerprint phone. I don’t see the problem with a back scanner. The only problem I have with it is when I’m driving and the phone is in a magnetic base so I can’t reach the scanner… But that’s also when I’m driving and looking at my phone isn’t a good idea anyway.
This front scanner hype is silly to me. Now, side scan like one plus did a while ago is a pretty good idea I think.
I think they should be working on fixing their own eff-ups in the current Android One line, as it’s really hard to recommend their phones when they keep effing-up so hard (it’s like the 3rd month in a row they eff-up the update in the Mi A2, with known issues still lingering around pretty much since the launch).
I had to install PixelExperience to finally get what I paid for in Android One. They should literally fire their team and hire that one guy to support the Mi A2. That one guy is achieving what Xiaomi couldn’t do in months!
I have Samsung flash memory, so I wasn’t affected. But I can tell you that I/O feels much snappier with the PixelExperience, so I wound’t be surprised if the developer had it fixed (as it is rumored to be an issue with the I/O scheduler).
Still pumping up new models.
IMO, this shows their lack of commitment for steady and stable software updates of the models they have already sold.
phone noob here. whats the difference between android one and regular android?
Xiaomi uses its own modified version of Android, called MIUI. Android One is Google’s program, so that other phones except Google’s Pixels can get stock Android aswell. Hope it helps
thank you for explaining. are the Android One OS and MIUI OS based off of the official open-souce Android OS? for example, i used to have a HTC. did that run on Android One or HTC’s own version of Android?
im a note 5 user too! 🙂 what do you think of the phone?
Android One is “stock” or “vanilla” Android like you find on Pixel devices, MIUI is heavily modified “skin”. All androids are open-source 🙂 Your HTC was HTC-s modified version of Android probably.
Note 5 is a great device for the price =)
I couldn’t agree more!
I wish they would also release a Chromebook!
Even Pixel devices have a modified version of Android. Android One devices have the “purest” version of Android out there.
I like the idea of an in display. Sometimes the phone is on a table and I just want to unlock it to look at something without picking it up.
Also it just feels that bit more magical.
Does this mean mi a3 will have an oled screen?
Seems like bias. UD scanner is objectively the best since your thumb is always above the screen. The least finger movement required and you can use it without holding the phone.
This, I recommended the A2 to a friend and it keeps dropping calls
How is that? Their Mi A2 is already getting pretty old…
I’m not sure if the article reveals that they would be Mİ A3. What I am referring is their constant supply of new models with only minor differences in such a short time period. I fear not only they spread their product range a bit too much but also moving too fast with their product lines. For instance, Redmi Note 5 feels like 3 years old due to Note 7 pro.
Disagree. Pixel devices are made by Google, how can they have modified skin? Ofc do they have device – specific features but so do Android1 devices. Pixel android is the “purest” as it comes straight from Google. Android One updates come from Google, go through OEM( like Xiaomi) and only then come out . 😅
Well, shit.
It came out like 9 months ago…… after my old phone broke I went back to A1 and that fucker with pie is unbreakable. Gets excellent battery life and screen time.
Plus also give us big batteries. What’s the deal with 3,000 mAh Mi A series phones?
The issue is pretty clear at this point that it isn’t that they don’t want to. It’s that they can’t.
I don’t know why everyone is so obsessed with in-display fingerprint readers. I like it in the back!
Probably the Redmi Note 7
No, purest is AOSP as compiled. That doesn’t have built in Gapps nor Pixel features.
Oh no….. Means they will be amoled….. Not great for those who want their phones screen to last without colour shift or burn in…
Tru
Well, I’d like to see an Android One phone from Xiaomi with NFC. It can’t cost that much to add it, right?
The goal in the future is to somehow implement a fingerprint scanner under the whole display/large portion of it. That way, wherever your finger is you can unlock it anyway.
The current condition is not optimal, but it’s the future. If samsung, vivo, oppo, doesn’t use it they’ll look outdated
Agreed, the Pixel Experience ROM for Mi A2 works so well, it’s nearly flawless compared to the buggy stuff that Xiaomi put out. And Cam2API is enabled by default
Mi A2 lite has a 4000 mAh battery.
Optimization is getting really good
Lets hope they will also install a proper battery this time…
Sure its probably going to make screens more fragile in that area plus more expensive if you need replacement.
But im keen to get rid of that back reader that collects so much dirt and hate having a hole in my phone case
pros and cons
Yes which is awesome except for the rest of the Mi A2 Lite versus the Mi A2
It is relatively, but at least for me, not an all day phone. The extra mAh matters.
Compared to the Pocophone, the Pocophone batteries last way longer, a day and a half for me. The only exception is the A2 lite, which does have 4000mAh batts but then has the darn 625 again.
This. Just got my mi9 and I have to say screen fingerprint reader feels more natural and handy.
AFAIK only AOSP is open source. Neither MIUI nor Android One are open source.
I understand that but my point is optimization on phones is getting really good in general for the future. Phones with less mah like the Mi 9 are out lasting phones like the Poco F1 and note 7. This attitude of only looking at the mah is toxic.
This is false. I’ve watched a lot of battery life SIDE BY SIDE reviews. The Mi A series is not known for battery life.
Here’s why your example is bad: the Mi 9 runs on MIUI which is already on battery conservation by default versus stock Android on the Mi A series.
In testing the Mi 9 only actually lasts one day and has just short of 7 hours of screen on time when doing nothing but playing back video. The Poco easily lasts 8-9 hours of screen on time with video, 15% longer than the Mi 9 simply because it too is using MIUI and has battery conservation especially when both have MIUI’s variant of Adaptive Battery which came later but wasn’t present when the Poco F1 was initially released.
So it’s only good with MIUI only because MIUI is always on battery conservation but that doesn’t mean mAh doesn’t matter, in fact its still critical.
You’re basically arguing that the gas tank size on a car doesn’t matter. It does, even if the engines are to be more fuel efficient and to be very conservative.
or a Mi A3 Pro
I don’t specifically mean the Mi A series. I’m just talking about the future in general.
I’m not arguing that mah doesn’t matter, I’m saying that optimization is getting really good so we can’t only just look at mah anymore.
Here is the video where the mi 9 outlasts the note 7: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPu\_w0-G54Q](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPu_w0-G54Q)
The thing is to me, I’m comparing either well optimized stock android or battery saving MIUI phones side by side, not cross compared.
Therefore the mAh really does matter. The A series is NOT a true all day phone. The Pocophone and Max phones are definitely true all day phones that you never have to worry about charge for that day.
The extra 20-25% battery life actually matters a ton (the difference between a 3300 mAh phone and a 4000 mAh phone) because it means the difference between your phone being dead at 2am on a Saturday morning in the middle of grabbing an Uber after a Friday night out, or still having enough charge to get home.
For someone like me who travels a lot in foreign non-English speaking nation, I really love the Max series because heavy use of GPS and looking up stuff while abroad means my Max phones won’t die on me at the end of the day, while my Poco still struggles and my A2 is long dead.
micro-usb, ugh. the rest is great though (headphone jack!), really wish I could get the Mi A2 lite, but I’m not gonna downgrade all my cables and periphery again.
I *prefer* back fingerpringt scanner. Way more ergonomic to unlock through scanner, easier to hit with your finger, better hitrate… so far, having an under-display scanner is a non-starter for me.
