Well it doesn’t matter as we can just install custom ROMs to remove the ads. People who dislike miui and ads have other options including Xiaomi.eu and lineage os.
Lol sorry. I used to just use NFC but now I’ve got a wallet case for the phone, problem solved.
Well I’m a student and tech savvy enough to run a custom ROM I’m also an IT student so I don’t mind going through a bunch of steps to get things working how I like. For me it’s also a money thing I can buy a new phone or I can use a custom ROM and get an extra 3 years of support and software updates. I know not everyone wants to use ROMs. The only reason I bought my Redmi note 5 pro was custom ROM support with much more powerful hardware than other phones at the price point. It’s almost like a flagship.
I find it funny how the community have circumvented Xiaomis business model . As Xiaomi offer their phones for cheap and add ads in to make money. The community develops custom ROMs removing said ads and letting people use Xiaomi devices without the ads.
Redmi or Redmi Note?
Samsung Galaxy A51
The Chinese skins are breed from the same design philosophy, so the skins are all the same, the only difference is how mature/developed they are. And I have to say that xiaomi has the best “chinese-style” rom and I would recommend it. Works well when you pair it with Nova launcher which is what I’m doing. While the stock launcher is very new-user friendly- my dad who barely knows how to use a computer can do basic tasks on a xiaomi without me ever having to teach him
K
Yeah but you might as well install twrp anyway so you have a functional backup in case debloating breaks anything.
Australia, but i bought my phone from China.
I’m hoping to be one of those owners here in US… whenever it arrives. haha I have the A3, but I always like to have another phone on standby for various reasons. Android One has been pleasant especially after we finally got a good Android 10 update, but I’m looking to seeing MIUI 10 (and eventually 11) in action.
Привет! Скажите, Redmi Note 8 pro стоит загружать полную GLOBAL MIUI11?
Yeah same here I see many people with Oppo phones I reckon Xiaomi are better than Oppo because miui is a bit better than colour os 🤮. The only reason I use Redmi phones is custom ROM support. So when people ask me should I get a Xiaomi phone I can’t give them an answer as I use custom ROMs which most people won’t.
Same. Great phone that works.
No shit dude…
I’m in UK and it’s rare here but I found a new one on eBay for £95. It currently runs android 9 on miui 11
Are you in Europe? We don’t get ads here.
Great phone for the price
Of course it is, the specs already tell
Worldwide
> Linda Sui, Director at Strategy Analytics, said, “Global smartphone shipments reached a total of 275 million units in Q1 2020. The Android segment accounted for a dominant 86 percent share of all smartphones **shipped worldwide** in the quarter. The vast majority of smartphones sold globally today are Android models.”

It’s the one I have lmao
Redmi, Redmi Note is lower but still in the top
Xiaomi (Redmi) did the initial push to great midrangers (maybe the Moto G was the initial push, idk), but now competitors already stepped up their game imo, Xiaomi needs to reconsider its strategy of getting money with ads.
Yea: “Xiaomi’s Redmi smartphone range is selling very well in India and China ”
Pretty sure the majority of the sales are from India and China where budget phones sell VERY well. If you removed both countries from that, the models sold would be VERY different.
How’s the camera on this bad boy vs. the Note series?
You can permanently remove the ads from MIUI if you uninstall the MSA app through debloating which is very easy to do.
There is, with the natively supported ‘DNS-over-HTTPS’, just use a adblocking server.
I literally just asked I wonder how much this is influenced by India. I don’t know anyone with a xiaomi here as an example.
Is this based on India sales only?
While we’re all xiaomi fans here, I want to take a moment to appreciate how stunning the price to performance of the Samsung A51 is, and thank Samsung for keeping the low to mid-end competitive with their A series
A51 is so damn good I almost bought it, well deserved
I bought Global Version Redmi 8 (not Note) at equivalent of USD80 online earlier this month, after deduct all the promotion price, discount, rebates plus free shipping. Comes with 3GB RAM 32GB storage. Received it two days ago and has been using it as a testing/backup phone. Comes with Google apps.
I think it supports eSim as well, I’m trying to search for more info but not found any yet.
So far the new phone works great – fast and smooth, unlocked and testing multiple telco sims.
Doesn’t everyone? Lower end devices only sell better because of their prices
most people do not even know what a ROM is
I have the note 8 pro
I’m not sure where these talks of ads are coming from, I’ve been using my note 7 for over 6 months and i haven’t seen any ads.
I’m from Australia.
Also I’m aware it’s global. My question still stands. I believe they are mostly popular in third world countries right?
I just got one last week and this phone is amazing, it just needs NFC.
Same, global version but I did uninstall the ads service via usb debugging.
True but I don’t think there is another way to remove ads. I don’t know if you can disable them in miui.
The people who will be buying xiaomi or Samsung phones in this price range are going to be students, or working class people and moms who couldn’t care less about technical details
And when they see an ad they will get turned off
All they care is calling, messaging, watching videos and news, and light gaming
The majority of students are not IT students. Especially where I live, predominantly junior secondary school students or primary school students use the redmi phones.
Are you implying it’s not? EU is huge, I really doubt every country in EU also but these. Anyway, thanks for the discussion, clearly you live in India or China and I offended you, sorry.
