During the redmi y series launch, they shared some test results showing android one beating miui easily, reminding the viewers that they are working towards shortening the gap.

So pretty sure they’re expecting people to vote for Android one and if it doesn’t win by a huge margin, it might actually encourage them to set aside more time for miui.

I love MIUI9. I had an essential where it was a totally non altered Android 8.0. It was great in some ways but I really like the small extra futures MIUI have. I could have a app drawer like in the stock and that they move down settings button in the notification like in stock but other than that I would not change. I’m on a MI MIX 2 btw.

I loved MIUI for years on a lot of my devices, way back when, when there were two different US forums for MIUI. Then I started looking at their (Xiaomi) devices. I couldn’t believe the price so a device with today`s flagship internals to cost 1/2 to 1/3 the price for awesome, incredible, and should have been in the USA years ago… till this day, and I call 2-3 Times a year, they still DO NOT have any USA distributors…or could it be that the competition is afraid of Xiaomi Devices and they should be. #Xiaomi #TakingOver #USA

I have mi a1 for 2 weeks now and damn you cant say how good miui is until you experience stock android.

Music app I cant really call music app.
You cant swipe down notification panel from middle of the screen (you need to reach top of your screen).
    No calls record.
    Battery stats are kinda useless.
There is no file manager (there is files apps but its kinda useless).
No MIUI touch assistant and that is important for 5.5 device
What is funny there is no silence mode in notification panel (you have to manually lower your volume to minimum)
MIUI drop (however it is now standalone app)
    I miss weather app
Permission control is shit compared to miui.

There are something more but I cant remember now.

What is the point of stock android if you need to install 15 apps to make it usable.

Sounds to me like you aren’t using Android One or at least your experience is far different than mine.

Google Play Music is as seamless as it gets and syncs with your PC.

Yes there’s a silence mode in the notifications.

What do you mean there isn’t a call record? In the phone app it’s the middle tab?

Most importantly, battery and speed is faster without MIUI.

Also Nova Launcher is the bomb and I couldn’t get out of some force start chinese apps, but maybe that’s just me?

I dont see any silence mode. Did you mean DND? because its not what I want. I want to mute my phone with one click and leave vibrations on. From what I see it silence everything except alarms.

I did not find any call record and I checked both call app and contact app (there even were rumours it might come with android P so I’m sure it is not part of stock android)

Battery and speed cant be really compared. And overall miui phones have better battery life due to MIUI hard optimization.

In what word Nova launcher is stock android?

About google play. Ok it does is app, but… 15second of usage I just deleted one song by swiping? wtf, I dont even know which one… yeah.

My point is in stock android I had to do a lot of tweaks, where in MIUI I did not (even when I got my very first xiaomi phone mi2s).

Miui is painful. Push notifications barely works. Apps kept being killed in the background aggressively (literally made launchers and some apps work abnormally). Some basic stock android features barely made it into miui (eg split screen). If they really wanna make miui great, they should learn why people prefer stock android.

I was feeling MIUI until recently where my phone auto updated to 9.2 and installed this App Vault thing to the left of the desktop, which I really don’t want, yet there’s no way to disable it. Now there’s an ugly big box saying ‘Customize’ and a search bar I’ll never use. Boo Xiaomi for not letting us toggle this new feature.

Call record is the list of incoming and outgoing calls… What you’re trying to talk about is call recorder which isn’t in stock Android yet.

Xiaomi should let us choose MIUI or Android One and allow changing the ROM via a setting to switch between MIUI and Android One.

Yep. Same here. Was so tired of waiting on MIUI 8 and then realized even MIUI 9 wasn’t going to give me Nougat. Bit the bullet, unlocked bootloader, and installed Lineage OS 14.1 with Nougat. Absolutely excellent! Battery life is better and have stock Android experience. Go for it.

I did the same on a rn3p and have been suffering some bugs, the phone forgets the fingerprints after every reset, and my phone now turns off at 30% percent battery life. Also the sound seem to be lower than before. other than that all works.

That’s not true. Even Miui still provides regular updates for devices 4 years ago. The problem is that they won’t necessarily update Android versions but they will update Miui.

If you’re suggesting an option should be given to download either at initial boot they would be selling an incomplete phone. Also not everyone has access to high speed net and most people would like to jump right into using their phone.

Is your phone encryption on? Go to settings->security to check that. Under encrypt phone it’ll say phone encrypted. I had the fingerprint problem as well. Do a full advanced wipe and then install the ROM. The encryption should go away and you won’t have the fingerprint issue anymore.
For the sound, what I suspect is that it’s AudioFX adjusting your speaker sound output. Play some music on the loudspeaker and fire up AudioFX and see which equalizer gives the loudest sound output. I faced the same issue too 🙂

Oh I hate MiUI just because of the horrible notifications. The app drawer situation can be ameliorated with a launcher.

Yeah, I’m not sure. I just remember about six months ago, 9 was supposed to have split screen even if still based on marshmallow but I haven’t looked into it much since then and was surprised I got nougat with miui 9 because that definitely wasn’t the original plan afaik

The poll seems to be finished but where is the result?
I would have voted for stock Android OS.

Got a Note 3 and the stock Miui was horribly slow and keeps crashing. Notifications were blocked and linking up to an andord wear watch is unstable since you get notifications each hour instead of as they come in. No step counting or consistency with apps running in background.

After rooting phone and installing stock Adnroid OS (Cosmos OS), the phone run way better. It is surprising with the same hardware Miui ( varient of Android) runs like a snail on
where stock Pixel Android OS (Cosmos) runs way faster and stabler. Android wear now integrates correctly and all the apps I run works again.

For the price you pay for the xiaomi device it is kind of a bargain. But Miui 9 runs terribly and is a resource hog compared to Stock Android OS on the same hardware. Request permission to root the phone and load a Custom Rom. Worked for me.
