update: the led is now blinking in white and not red. s creen also turn a bit brighter.
are you on stock rom ? rooted ?
i’m sure it’s stock and not rooted.
Remove charger and let battery dry out so phone turns off. Then plug charger again and see if it boots..
Factory reset?
this is my first time charging the phone after 2 years. pretty sure battery would be dry already.
i can’t factory reset it
When off try pressing vol – and power at the same time and see what happens.
Why? You can’t access recovery?
yeah, power + vol up wouldn’t do anything
What about fastboot?
the phone won’t even turn on 🙁
Yeah, while on charger and off can’t you press vol – and power at the same time?
I see two options here,
1.Boot into Recovery Mode (Probably by holding Power+Volume Up on boot) and use the Wipe Data option ( Be careful tho, it might delete your files depending on how your phone is configured -whether the Media partition is standalone or not). The apps and their data will be erased, much like a Factory Reset
2. If that doesn’t work, you’re gonna have to perform a little trick called flashing a stock ROM, https://firmwarefile.com/xiaomi-mi-4 looks like a good start, there are links with instructions etc. Just be sure to use the Global version, Chinese has a bunch of crap installed. If you have further questions regarding this, feel free to ask 🙂
Also, what did you do prior to this happening? E.g. Changed some system settings, installed something suspicious
Are you able to boot into fastboot ?
That is a dead battery i think
i’ve been trying that too, but turns out i need to press the volume button a bit harder because it’s kinda broken. it’s now able to go to fastboot
Well its probably on bootloop u can try to fastboot or hardboot “same happend to me a few days ago if these solitions wont work and it keeps looping its probably because of power button got stuck there is nothing u can actualy do about it but mine (redmi note 7) fixed it self after a few hours maybe it might fix it self too like mine”
Sorry, just tried that in my phone :You must press vol + and power at the same time and then choose ‘wipe data’ from the menu..
Dude this is really old phone I think the problem is the battery dead cus this phone is need to be in the garbage already
Jesus, how many decades have you used the phone for?
Connect the device to a PC and open drivers manager, then see if the device is detected normally or as qcom device). The latter means either it’s hard bricked or the emmc is dead.
Its soft bricked i think..trying going into recovery and wipe data..if it doesn’t work go into fastboot and flash the rom again.
thats exactly what happend to my mi 4 2 years ago. Didn’t exactly know how to solve that problem. Before it stuck on that loop, every other time my phone always restarts itself again and again until it just did that. Did replace my phone after that. Sorry man
Didn’t do it all the way, don’t want to erase my data..
+1 for this. Probably the battery is so flat that it can only go to fastboot and not boot normally.
Maybe the power button is stuck, I had this issue before so I tried to fiddle around with the power button and it worked.
Looks like a ko battery. I got something like that with my Mi5.
It is a 5 years old phone. Not that old. And a flagship should last.
Wow hes lucky had the same phone which died in 2 yrs
Try EDL mode. It fixes most of the issues. I let you google it in case you never heard of it.
exact thing happened to me… A few years back i accidently bought 2 redmi 3s phones. I used one for a few years and the other remained in the box… Well i upgraded my phone and all was good… Fast forward to about 3 months ago. My wife had a phone that stopped working and she wanted a phone. we have a box of old phones in the basement. The one redmi 3s was still in the box never used and the other one was just sitting there. I installed her sim into the new phone and plugged it in. It just kept doing the exact thing that your phone is doing. So i plugged the used redmi 3s in and it worked. Since the screen was cracked on the used one, i decided that id like to try and fix the unused redmi 3s. After a lot of trial and error i got it working…….
Long story short, I discovered that the battery in the unused phone was no good and it was the reason for this bootloop. I put in the used battery in and everythign was good. so it was a battery issue
5 years is alot in smartphone world
It’s about half of its existence. But if you really think about it, is about the same time since any breakthrough innovation got implemented.
I mean, there a lot of evolutions, and some new cool stuff.
But at the end of the day, the Mi4 should be as capable of as any entry level, entry-mid range today.
The only thing that should degrade over time is the battery. And that is something that you can change (if they were supplied 5 years latter) .
Well, I’d usually suggest checking the power button being stuck with such symptoms, but then, I read you had the phone unused for 2 years, so now I’m pretty sure it’s the battery gone bad and deeply discharged, lithium batteries get damaged if they get discharged after a certain point, and when left unused, the battery keeps on discharging, for 2 years in your case, must be dead by now, so replace the battery and I guess it’ll be good to go, no need for any fancy resets or software workouts.
I had the same issue w/ my Redmi Note 7; they changed the battery, luckily under warranty but then I started to have “no service” (so no phone calls, no messages, no internet, it was completely cut off).
Now the repair shop sent it somewhere… in addition my very first issue was with the battery (it was dropping to 25% in 5 hours after a full charge); the battery was very hot; I had ghosting on the screen..
I mean, such a poor quality product! Never again.
all of this after 1 year and few months…
if is that, let him charge for a night. I done that to my old Mi4C and work it
Go into recovery mode and wipe data and turn it on
If it boots up and works just fine would you wanna sell it to me ?
Classic bootloop
Do a reset from recovery if it’s work then good otherwise contact a service center
Bootloader loop 😕 it is over
I have a redmi 2 with a bootloop ’cause of a dead battery
Looks like a dead battery. I have faced this before. The charger does not have enough amperage to charge battery and the motherboard together during boot
Likely dead batt or mobo issues.
It’s such an ancient phone, a $100 Xiaomi cheapo model will surpass it.
I see a red line meaning it’s a bad battery. Happens on most devices
I fixed a Sony that had a similar problem by smacking the back of it twice fairly hard.
I had the same problem. Many times.
Or… Replace the battery…?
Dude, get a new phone 🙂
I had two Xiaomi phones with this problem I think there’s something wrong with the power button on Xiaomi phones
Dunno about other models, now I have a mi8 and have no problems, but i changed TWICE the button on the mi4 and it broke yet again last week
Battery not charged for 2 years? That battery is most likely dead. Does the phone do nothing at all when you try to turn it on after unplugging it from the charger? If so definitely a dead battery.
Buy a new phone
I had a redmi note 4 which it’s power button became almost impossible to press and now I have a poco F1 with a power button that got stuck several times leading to an endless loop of rebooting
Try doing these steps
1: replace the flex cable that connect the mother board to the charging port. See if that fixes it
If that don’t work then just replace the battery or replace both just to be on the safe side
i already have one lol, that’s why this video is recorded vertically.
i used to have this issue with a redmi note 3… had to returned it was during warranty. They told they couldn’t figure out what it was after a month and gave me a new one.
yeah if you let the battery die, you’ve bricked it. new battery will fix.
Not sure if this works for you, but 3 days ago I had the same thing going with another Chinese cheap phone that wasn’t used for like 6 months. Plugged it into the charger and then the boot loop started and won’t stop. After like 1 hour or so, I decided to try with something different, so I plugged in my Mi 9T’s fast charger. Gave it 5 minutes and boom, it turned on again. Maybe that will help you. Not sure though. (And, as was already stated, this is a battery issue for sure!)
Yup, had the same issue with a redmi 4x… After my sis soaked it into salty water while at the beach. Batt was not the same after this, but it started again after putting a stronger charger. (Completely fixed after replacing the charging port). Allow it to charge a bit more with a bigger charger and see what happens.
Yes indeed there is something with the power button, I never got that probably but it’s so sensitive to the touch, just with a little tiny touch of my finger it goes for all turning off the screen for example if I’m holding it while I watch something or reading….I hate the button design, makes me think that chinese ppl are so weak lol
