That only worked on the stock app though. If I ever wanted to take an impromptu shot on a messaging app I’d have to deal with the placement or navigate away from the app, launch the camera and then share the image.
It’s obviously a tiny inconvenience but it still an inconvenience I didn’t like having on a phone that cost me nearly £600
To my personal experience with it, its very good.
Performance are great, very snappy, it’s 5 month and slider mechanism seems still strong.
Yet there’s a little annoyance with the camera getting dusty and sometimes the camera software refusing to connect to the selfie camera
I was planning on buying the Mix 3 until I saw the slider design and then decided to not buy it. It was too clunky.
Rumor imply that sales of the Mix 3 were poor.
Yeah I got you. That huh wasn’t because I didn’t understand you
Only improvement there would be “no front camera at all”.
Same. I’m surprised there is even debate the mix 3 isn’t considered one of xiaomi’s finest flagships. Mix 3 has been nothing short of excellent in everything I have thrown at it. The slider is solid and, yes, it does add some extra weight but it’s not dramatically so. It weigh’s the same as iPhone XS Max, for perspective. Gorgeous display, still perfectly capable and relevant SD processing..what’s not to like?
Because if you disconnect back part of the slider with the front part you can’t use the phone anymore. Battery, back cameras, and i guess everything else is in the back part and screen is in the front.
If you disconnect the pop up camera from the phone, you can use the phone, but not the front camera.
I got a 2S back in December for 300€ and I still love. Just a bit sad that the screen isn’t brighter or OLED for the sunny days

I use the version linked here.
Zenfone 6 has the best approach imo
I have one and I love it! Not only does it preform amazingly and are rh cameras top notch, the slider mechanic has an amazing unforseen advantage. When I drop my phone it isn’t a solid slab so the impact is dispersed. I’ve dropped it from heights where my old Nexus 6p would shatter. Nothing. Love it! And the slider is a great stress relief.
The slider trend might be dead. And in theory it makes the phone more prone to damage from falls. I’ve had the Mix 3 for about 3 months now and have no regrets. I admit the slider isn’t always practical but I never take selfies and oh boy do I like the full screen. I found the mix 3 at a ridiculous price and couldn’t bare waiting for the mi9t pro. A pop up camera does seem like a good solution but it’s still a mechanical part. It’s still too soon to say which one will be better in a 3 to 4 years usage and endurance.
But was the Mix 3 that bad?
I used to use the pocophone in Vietnam, but when I moved to the US I had to switch over to the mi mix 2s for band support. I really like the NFC because I can use Google Pay now (which I always thought was overrated until I tried it). The only thing I miss is the camera.
Yup, that’s my only complaint about this phone. The screen while looks great, isn’t bright enough in certain situations.
I feel like the mi mix 3 was never meant for careless people. The slider is amazing. Sue me if you disagree :p
Not really, but I returned mine for the following reasons: the slider was wobbling when you were using the phone without a case. Only slightly, but still a bit annoying. Then I had pocket lint and dust under the slider and I had to practically clean it every day. Now imagine getting a little sand stone stuck under the slider. Something must have gotten into mine because it made horrible noises and then whatever was stuck there fell out or moved elsewhere, because the noises stopped. The weight and size put me off at first, but once you use the phone in real life, it is perfectly fine and I enjoyed the weight actually. It felt like quality. The phone itself is so damn beautiful, buuuut a fingerprint magnet and slippery. You want to use a case with it, which is a shame because the phone is so sexy. My last complaint is the battery life. I am no power user and the battery lasted a day, but only barely and if I were to use it more it would need a few charges during the day. Yes, it had quick charge and to some that remedies a poor battery. I don’t agree with that, because I don’t want to keep looking for power outlets and maybe I am outside. This phone was also dead on arrival. It got killed by the Mi 9 and overshadowed by it. The Mix 3 didn’t receive a lot of updates like other Xiaomi phones and it somehow got lost in the mix IMO. Would I recommend this phone now? Not really when you have the Mi9 and the damn Mi 9T and Mi 9T Pro. There is no need for the Mix anymore, unless you want full display and wireless charging. The slider ultimately didn’t feel future proof and if I were to stay in my home country, this wouldn’t bother me much because Amazon would handle everything. If you can find a used unit and don’t mind buying second hand, I would recommend this for 250€, but remember the Mi 9T isn’t more expensive and has a larger battery, no slider and headphone jack.
I can add a little more and get a mi9t in my country. Which i prefer. I don’t really need a Snapdragon 845. 730 is good enough. The last time i used a flagship chip, the battery became the bottleneck (died faster than the aging SoC)
I actually got an insane deal, $340 for the Mix 3 from stacking discounts.
Absolutely haha. I know I would do that
Yeah, fair enough. I didn’t want one at all. 🙂
The mix 3 slider was really interesting since It used only magnets and no motors and mechanical parts. Sad to see it go but may be for the better?
The Mix 3 sounds huge on paper, but in real life it feels great in the Hand. I Had the Pocophone before and the Mix 3 has a similiar size. IMO the weight added quality and it just felt great, not clunky at all.
The camera is so much better on this phone. Especially with the newest gcams.
I got mine in December too, but I paid 350€ Love the phone though, but if the design is good I’ll probably go for the MIX 4
Yeah I don’t trust slider phones.
Something in slider breaks, whole phone is useless. If something in pop up cam breaks well whatever, i rarely even use front camera.
Modular camera (sold separately) is coming! ^loljk
Mix 2s user here. Perfect design in my book (as an extremely minimal front camera user) the small bottom bezel is great to position the keyboard in a comfortable to use location. Slightly smaller overall size would be nice but I’ll take it.
Best phone I’ve ever had.
Just a friendly reminder that Xiaomi has the under screen front camera technology already working, so, it’s almost expected to see it in the Mix 4, since the Mix line always launches innovative designs.
Tbh i prefer mi9t in terms of everything except performance and price.
My mom used mi mix 2. And the front camera is not usable. For selfie yes you can flip your phone to take a regular photo. But when doing video calls with any apps, the app won’t rotate and thus your friend will see you either nodding way up or giving them the point of view from your nose
Happy cake day!
Damn
Maybe you misunderstand me. There are so many things I love about the mix 3, but there are a few things that weren’t too scorers. The Antutu Benchmark score of the mix 3 was lower than its predecessor. It was released right before in screen fingerprint scanners and the sd855 were a thing. I like the mix 3, but compared to similar aged phones it feels kinda old.
I get you now. I guess I misinterpreted your tone.
But the slider was unique. Now everyone does a pop-up camera. 🙁
Yeah that’s if the entire back part of the phone Congress off. Assuming the slider gets stuck (more likely than falling off) everything but front camera would still be usable.
It was €280 Amazon.de in November. I bought it then. Where in Europe did you buy it with that markup?
What a bro 🙂
Because if they get rid of some of their idea they might as well thinking another one. Is their one of the fragship after all, they should think of something fresh and new into the market. Like underscreen selfie camera or like I said with Google fingers gestures. And that way may bring back even more notch. XD
I am writing this on a Mix 3. I upgraded from an iPhone 5s and the phone has been amazing for me. Now however I have more knowledge of android phones and the mix 3 is pretty useless. The slider design is unique, and a fun toy, but my screen shifts from side to side ever so slightly, and I can “feel” the screen cables when I slide. The sd 855 was right around the corner yet I have only an 845. My battery is extremely heat sensitive and was never very high to begin with, but it just about keeps alive for a day. The full screen was my main reason I chose this device, but now so many phones have it it’s nothing unique or special anymore. I love my phone and I can’t ever imagine going back to iPhone, I love Xiaomi and am a huge fan, but the Mix 3 wasn’t a hit on their behalf.
As long there is no notch. Im happy.
I got mine in january, same price.
I just bought the mi 9t pro
No regrets so far
Couldn’t wait for the mix 4 xd
I didn’t love the camera being below the screen, until I remembered I could flip it when I needed to. 🙂
The front camera really is the worst thing about this phone. Both the quality and the fact that most apps don’t rotate it like WhatsApp. However almost everything else is amazing especially considering the price
I was ready to get the next Mix phone and when I saw the increased weight and clunkiness of the device I passed on it.
Given the rumors that the k20 and k20 Pro are using the left over screens originally ordered for the Mix 3 it seems that sale might have been disappointing.
Interesting idea. Anything that makes you think that?
Wait what? Why is it that when a slider for front cam breaks whole phone fucked, but when pop up camera mechanism breaks only that part of phone is fucked…
Why did you “upgrade” from Mix 2s to Pixel 2xl?
I don’t blame you.
I have a pocophone just because I wanted the headphone jack. I recently gave in and moved over to TWS headphones and wish I’d just got the Mix 2S like I wanted.
I have a mix 3 and if you weigh a few more grams … uff … mix 3 works perfectly without lags. it’s great.
I too am using the mix 3, I do not relate to anything you’re saying. I haven’t had any issues, the slider works as intended, a nice throwback to my last dumb phone that was a slider from Sony Ericsson.
Sure the battery isn’t the longest lasting, but I knew that as should anyone that looked at the specs beforehand.
Can you link me one? I installed one but it did not work out well
Same here, would still have the phone if it wasn’t unfortunately stolen, but have the Mi 9T now and it’s a bit of a relief that I’m not needing to baby it as much
sliders are so 2018. Right now pop-up is the best solution. In-display cameras aren’t ready yet.
Likely the mix 3 sold poorly because it never made it to the main stream, I have one and I love it. I know it was a late launch, since the sd 855 came out early 2019. So the November launch definitely did influence the sales. The sliding screen is extremely intuitive in my opinion, it’s not fidgety for me. I rarely put it up because there’s no reason to. Though it is very satisfying. The weight isn’t that bad either, yes it’s like 30gr heavier than an S10 but I feel like (with a case) there’s near to no slidyness with the ceramic back. Size wise, sure it’s big, but every phone is nowadays
I have the same complaints and returned my Mix 3 after a month of use. Cool phone, but it was dead on arrival and overshadowed by the Mi 9. Battery was poor, too.
Honestly I still love the Mi Mix 2S design. I honestly considered getting one when I saw it for £200 but am holding off in the hopes that the Mix 4 is awesome.
Yeah, sometimes I regret not going for the 1+6 but then I remember this one was 200€ less
Yeah I was between the same two phones. Specs and practical concerns favoured the Mi 9T, style and price favoured the Mix 2s.
I think it may come with Google’s new fingers gesture control?
Huh
This would be awesome, I’m not sure the tech will be ready but this would be the best possible outcome.
The best outcome is that the in-display camera is ready but I fear that that may be too optimistic.
Sometimes ideas are unique because they aren’t that good.
I had the OG mix as soon as it came out. Everything was beautiful about the design but I really hated the camera being below the screen. I jumped immediately on the mix 3 train.
Larger battery in the 5G, along with SD855.
