For me mi 9se size was ok. I bought the Spigen Armor case and it felt slightly big… With an slim (nillkin) case it’s perfect
Good point … 350-400€ or so. Launch price.
BTW did you notice curved display?
Nice! A possible update from the 9se
I don’t like them either. Glares… But we cannot be so picky after such a long wait ☺️
I hope it will be slightly curved only
Minis everywhere ☺️
I bought my mi9se. At around 300€ in an offer on November 19.
As all the xiaomi phones (and other brands too) it will go down.
I expect the camera are good!
Yeah. That’s something I don’t understand. So many phones so similar… No market for just one smaller one?
I guess in Asia everybody loves huge phones to watch media.
In Europe many love them too. But for my niece. Her first phone we bought A2 lite, sometime ago… The only one that fitted in her pocket
Bloody hell that’s genuinely a joke of a name then. “Mi 11 Large” would be more appropriate.
iPhone 12 Mini? That’s also not “Mini” lol. Calling a 5.8 inch phone “mini” is proper taking the piss.
I really really hope it will not be a “downgraded” version, all I want is a high end flagship spec phone in a smaller size.
Finally.
Wanna see whats inside?
Me, too. 700 series processor it’s ok for me. But the same cameras.
I hear you. I’m hoping for a compact flagship with premium cameras…
Finally I’ll be able to upgrade my Mi9 SE
Good mobile phone sizes are getting stupid now
Take a look at [this comparison](https://www.phonearena.com/phones/size/Apple-iPhone-12-mini,Apple-iPhone-7/phones/11333,9815) between the two phones that you’ve mentioned. You can see that the screen goes higher on the Mini and also lower. This means that it is much worse for one handed usability. This is obviously partly negated by the fact that the iPhone 7 has a home button so you still have to reach down to interact.
Now the iPhone 7 design was already outdated even it launched with the iPhone 6 in 2014. The bezels were massive even for the time. I’m going to add a contemporary, the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact, into [the comparison](https://www.phonearena.com/phones/size/Apple-iPhone-12-mini,Apple-iPhone-7,Sony-Xperia-Z3-Compact/phones/11333,9815,8744). I think that this is still the gold standard of phone form factor and screen size. It’s the limit of where I can use my phone one handed without adjusting my grip to reach sections of the screen (my hands from tip of middle finger to wrist is a centimetre longer than the worldwide male average) The Z3 Compact has a 4.6 inch 16:9 display compared to the iPhone 7’s 4.7 inch display. Notice how the “interactable” area is so much smaller.
From this comparison you can see that the iPhone 12 Mini gets the perfect width for me but that extra chunk on top adds very little function (especially on iOS where you can’t put a YouTube video at the top of the screen while using another app underneath, literally the only thing that tall screens have improved for me and I do that very rarely) and only serves to frustrate as you won’t be able to use elements up there.
Even with this though I would never describe the Z3 Compact as “mini”, it’s a reasonable sized phone for one handed use. “Mini” skills be reserved for actual mini stuff like the Unihertz Jelly line of phones. Having a phone that’s on the smaller side of larger phones doesn’t make it “mini” and having a phone that is firmly just a big phone like Xiaomi seems to be doing here certainly doesn’t make it “mini”.
Totally agree. And there is not much freedom of choice
If you are happy with that size. Lite should be ok for you… Want to go smaller? then mini 😉
It’s one of the smallest modern full smartphone, and it’s smaller than the regular iphone 12. It’s mini since it’s smaller than the iPhone 12 vanilla.
I’m not sure that they can fit a 108mp sensor in a mini phone
Nice! I love my Mi 9SE.
Well the mpx is not the problem, but the size. But if you look at P40( S20 or 21) is not that big either and I think, not sure, it has a big sensor.
I’ll just put what I put to someone else in this thread. It doesn’t all apply to what you’ve said but it addresses what you’ve said I think.

Finally a PHONE potentially worthy of replacing my trusty and awesome Mi 9 SE
Happy to find so many people loving his mi 9 SE. A phone so underrated and under the radar.
I love mine too 🤩
Im quite alright with Mi8 sensor and that is 13mpx. Woth Google Camera and tweaks (raw) it takes amazing photos. I just miss wide angle instead of telefoto.
Regular Mi 11 is 6.81″..my guess is Lite is 6.3-6.5 and Mini is 5.8-6.1
Hope so. Curved display feel smaller (though I prefer flat ones). But width of the device around 70mm is the right width for me
I need a Mi Max 4….
Considering there are 6,9″ phones out there the Mi Max series don’t have much meaning now…
If you want bigger just go tablet at this point
Those 6.9″ phones are 19+:9 displays that cost over $500. The Mi Max 3 was less than $300 with a FLAT 18:9 display. That narrowing really affects the screen surface area. My 16:9 5.9″ Huawei Mate 10 has the same screen area as a 6.4″ 19:9 display. There also aren’t any 8″ tablets with minimum bezel and a non-bottom tier SoC. I actually don’t think there are any mid to high end 8″ tablets anymore.
Can 700 series processors handle the 108mp? All proccessor has a limit for mpx.
I’m happy with it and feel the same way. Nothing in the market looks much better.
In any case I’m happy to have an option, if mine gets broken or in the future.
But I really love mi9se. Battery could be better, but I prefer it’s lighter and as you said quick charge or carrying a power bank for a special day.
Telephoto could also be better, but that’s them worst lense everywhere
I don’t see the relevance of that question. Just because phone manufacturers don’t make reasonably sized phones anymore it doesn’t make the smallest of the giants mini.
Are you trying to make a point. If you’re just saying “live with it, phones are massive you have no choice” just say it lol.
I mean you still haven’t made a point. Your brother being 13 years old is also irrelevant. He could have massive hands lol. My hand from tip of middle finger to wrist is a centimetre longer than the worldwide male average. The phone that I have found to be at the limit of being able to use one handed without adjusting my grip from the standard little finger below the display is the Xperia Z3 Compact. You could use a 10 inch tablet one handed if you were willing to juggle it around your hand like a mad man lol. [Here](https://www.phonearena.com/phones/size/Sony-Xperia-Z3-Compact,Xiaomi-Mi-9,Apple-iPhone-12-mini/phones/8744,11078,11333) are the Mi 9, Xperia Z3 Compact and iPhone 12 Mini compared. I can guarantee you that there are very few people on earth who can use the former with one handed without adjusting. There are likely some who can use the iPhone without adjusting. Going off my own experience the Z3 Compact will still have less than half of all people who can use it without adjusting.
While the Z3 Compact is what I consider to be the best phone screen size and form factor combination we have had so far I don’t even consider that to be “mini”. “Mini” is something like the Unihertz Jelly line. The suffix at the end of a phone name has lost all meaning (with Xiaomi more then most manufacturers lol).
I always like to compare it to Hagrid and other giants. Sure, he’s small for a giant, doesn’t stop him being bloody massive.
I wish they did a redmi 4 prime clone, big battery in a 5″ screen chassic
The size is almost the same as the mi 9se, because it has no bezels
Yes but the Mi9se had a tiny battery
Yeah. For me it’s ok. Weight versus capacity. In any case I think they could put a bigger one and still keep it small and not 200g. For instance S20 or pixel 5
Oh, that would be cool.
I’m still happy with my mi 9 SE but it’s good to have possibly have an option.
I’m all in on this if it is a mini with ois on the camera
Yup something like iPhone 12 mini but from Xiaomi , please I really want that
Well not everyone got a MI 9 SE (i got one lol) but they make this phone just a couple of months and it was hard to find on a good price for the low stock, thats why plp are asking for a new mini, as u say i love my 9 se but really wanted one a little more small, no as the iphone mini and of course better battery lol redmi 4 was a smallphone with good specs at the time and big battery, hope something like that its this mi 11… but yeah i can wait longer with my phone, but at the same time if we dint support this 11 mini, maybe gonna be the last one and every day its harder to get a good compact phone
Edit: I hate samsung phones and their prices lol and of course iphone its a no go for me, thats why we need another brand 🙂
Okay, NOW you got my attention.
I think the same. In Europe it was on sale very few months. It was introduced in Europe 4 or 5 months later than in China and it got discontinued at the beginning of 2020.
I feel the same if we don’t support it… It may not be a 12 mini 😞
Pretty much got the same sentiment as everyone else. Love smaller screen phones, they are so much easier to hold and use. My 9se is still going strong but in the near future I will be looking for an upgrade
Every premium phone needs a slight curve, same as the MI 11
Do you think ois is that important? For video and low light?
For videos no as EIS is generally better but for photos/low light photography OIS is a big benefit. I believe currently their are too many phone makers making phones without OIS and only putting in in their flagships which I do not agree with paying £800+ for a phone with OIS.
I personally don’t like small phones but it’s great to see more variety 🙂
For me its a must have. OIS is cool
Hope for the mini powerfull smartphone so much! Make it happen Xiaomi!
Long and narrow 6.9″ isn’t equal in size to the old mi max phones screen surface area, I miss the size of my max 3 personally and there really isn’t much on the market now, options are being wittled down every year choice wise
I know many people like the mini size. Although I prefer the iphone 12 or 12 pro size and I would be happy with that (S20 or pixel 5 are the right size personally for me)
The thing with Xiaomi and in general in Android (especially chinese makers) is that they don’t have the normal size either all of them are 6.4 or bigger.
There are few 6 inches options. Sony, pixel, s21, p30/40 and most of them expensive.
I agree. But they could have a midranger of that size. Not only the flagship.
For instance I’m not interested to buy a S21 for 800€. I don’t need 5G or sd888.
OIS made a huge difference for me when taking photos and videos, I never bought a phone without OIS after using it for first time.
is this for real? is my dream coming true?
am I finally able to retire my …. Mi5 ?! Yes my Mi5!
i only hope the weight is close to my Mi5’s 129 grams, or no more than 155g
i don’t care if its plastic or a 3000mAh battery, just keep it light please.
Hahahaha. Me too.
I used to have the mi 5. Then I upgraded to the mi 9 SE. Wonderful phone it felt the same way as the 5. Slightly heavier. But still very light.
Unfortunately they discontinued the SE
whoa finally a Mi 5 user or ex-user. I feel like I am the only one still with a Mi5 in this thread…lol
too bad I missed the mi9se, now i can’t buy it new even if I want.
to me weight is paramount…it has to be light
I agree with you about weight.
Yes I bought the SE in December 2019. But I was quite happy with the 5. The major improvement are the cameras. Main and having an ultra wide. Display (oled and bezelless, too)
I bought it and I was surprised in a couple of months or so it was no longer available. I understand you 😞
I decided to buy it because there was a good discount pre or after black Friday. But otherwise I could have decided to wait longer and then I could be in your same boat.
There will be No smaller
Look at the tweets
3 days Till 8 February 3 Phones
2 days 2 Phones
1 day 1 Phone
Good point 😢… But i I still hope there will be a smal mi11
Well… The separation in the image between the supposed Mini and the lite is smaller than the normal. But it’s very suspicious….
But it’s true today only one phone. Let’s keep the fingers crossed. At least I have met a lot of mi9 se lovers ☺️
Wow that is even less than my ‘heavy’ Mi5s (145g) and the thin brick Mi6 (168g). I sent back my Mi10T Pro, with it’s 220g it was just too much.
Mi11 going back to 190-ish somewhere I think, I can handle that. But a Mini 11 of 180…mmhh 😀
Totally disappointed… not even a lite, let’s hope lite comes with the mini 😒
F yeah. It is still my daily driver and the reason I yell “bullshit” when they say you can’t fit a big battery in a small phone. You can, just make it 1mm thicker, I don’t want a thin phone with a huge camera bump lol. I think 5’5 screen with modern bezels is the sweet spot.
Name one single phone with EIS and better video stabilization than one with OIS lol
That camera destroys most of the 48/64mp photos in current midrange smartphones. OIS is quite something.
So, where it is
No where.. 😔😭😭
I was so happy. Let’s hope when lite arrives mini will also come….
If not I’ll change to another brand… Though I’ve had mi5 and mi9 se and I love both of them
event over i guess and i should go back to my dreams of a lighter xiaomi phone…..
So sorry… Keep dreaming. I still hope they will launch a successor of the mi9se.
If not, I will be forced to switch brands. It’s a pity all of them are huge and heavy. Both things.
I think that a phone is the size of the 12 mini. It’s too small for me, but one of the size and weight of the 12 (not the price, that is heavy) it’s the sweetspot.
S20 would be also perfect, but too expensive and I’m not especially a Samsung fan.
Then you have the Sonys or pixel 5. But they’re expensive too.
I am definitely looking at other brands too, every few weeks I’d play with the weight slider on gsmarena. Some of my thoughts on others…
Pixel 4a – ideal size and weight but OS/apps r too barebone for someone used to miui, and its phone recording, last I read, is either beta or play a audio to warn everyone that recording is active.
Samsung – those S2x are light, I don’t mind one but the price…..
Sony – 21:9 size ratio…too tall
Oppo Reno4 Pro – this one im considering though its 161g
Ohhh You’re an expert on the topic.. like me ☺️
I reached exactly to the same conclusions as you.
S21 feels the perfect phone for me. Though I’m not a Samsung fan. Small bezels, light and 70mm wide. But I think the same as you said it’s expensive. Maybe in some months it will be 600-650€. I live in Spain, don’t know about you. In the US they already have some discounts.
Oppo Reno weight it’s interesting, but a bit too wide, I’m afraid.
Sony for me are expensive, I’m also not sure about the screen ratio
Don’t think so. February 8 passed & nothing announced. Looks like Mi 11 Lite Ultra, both large size.
Yes. I’m starting you think that. If a mini existed, it would have already been leaked.
I don’t know you, but when I upgraded from my mi 9 SE I will look to other brands.
Same probably have to leave xiaomi after mi9se. No good option right now for mini phone. Only Sony maybe. Google Pixel not very good. Maybe just wait 6months more
I’ll wait. I’m totally happy with mi9se now. But it’s sad to know there is no successor 😞.
For me, if a had to buy an smartphone now. I would buy this again.
I had a friend who bought mi9 in Christmas. You can still find normal model in some resellers, but not the SE.
After mi9 series Xiaomi has got more expensive, bigger and heavier… More cameras (some useless 2mpx depth, macro)… Hardly no real improvements for me, who don’t care about the most powerful snapdragon
Haha and tt is especially pointless for cheap devices… They make butoffs to make it cheaper, but then they put 5G which you may never use it
And a lower price tag.
Any update on this news / rumor?
My 5.7 inch Redmi 5 is going to fall apart soon, and I will not buy a brick to carry around in my pocket..
Also there has been rumors for Asus Zenfone 8 mini, but no progress there as well..
Well a couple of days ago this new rumour:
https://en.gizchina.it/2021/03/xiaomi-smartphone-display-compatto-richiesta-fan/
In any case, with all phones being leaked way ahead intro and no leak about this. I would assume there is not mini in sight 😒
Yeah that Asus seems to be real, pass some certification.
BTW this other phone (Meizu 18 6.2) is not so big either, but only for China.
They opted for a 7 Series in the Mi9 SE, which I own and love, so I don’t expect an SD888. But an SD780 would be awesome. SD888 is too power-hungry anyway and would drain the battery too fast, which is my only gripe with the Mi 9 SE – small battery and powerful components make for poor battery life – barely 1 day.
What I would love to see:
1) SD780
2) Same camera setup as the Mi11
3) Instead of a protruding camera make the phone 1-2 mm thicker so that the camera is flush like the Mi 5 and Mi 6.
4) Since the phone is thicker it can accommodate a larger battery.
5) A curved display (like in the picture) is not necessarily something I want but it would help the phone appear slimmer than it is.
If they manage to do all of these I believe the phone will sell great. The idea that “people are buying big phones” is so wrong IMO, since there wasn’t any small phone with good specs since the Mi 9 SE, which has a tiny battery. Just look at how well the small iPhones are doing.
To expand on points 3) and 4) I think if Xiaomi does something like that with the Redmi Note 10 Pro and calls it **Redmi Note 10 Thicc** they are going to break the internet, and this will be the thing that makes them relevant in the US and EU markets. I can already see the /r34 artists preparing to sexualise a phone, and the memes, oh the memes. I can see the Thicc blocking the Suez canal…
i wonder if theres really a “mini” version? all models are presumably announced for the Mi 11 line. The photo above shows 3 models but only 2 models were announced right? i doubt theres a mini version…
For the time being, for sure the answer is no. If it existed it would have been leaked.
I’m disappointed and when my mi9se dies I will switch to a different brand. I loved Xiaomi phones and get used to love miui but I don’t stand huge phones.
the 3 models above are ultra, normal and lite i guess? tbh they could have made the lite into a smaller version
I’m in the same boat. I’ve had the Mi5 and now have the Mi9 SE, and I really like the brand, but if they don’t release a small phone I will have to look elsewhere. I’m willing to work with a 6.2″ but that is my absolute limit. A 5.9″ – 6.1″ will be awesome. For example, they can keep the Mi 9 SE dimensions and make it 6.1″, or make it smaller and have a 6″ display.
Happy Mix 2S user here, looking forward to any news on smaller Xiaomi phones
Same here. But we may look for greener pastures in other brands. S21 looks fine to me, though more expensive 😔
Yeah I cannot see big improvements in these new cameras, when the increase the mpx. But they keep going up 108mpx
zenfone 8.
Any updates on this rumor? Im using a Mi 8 now, planning to move to iPhone 12 mini for single hand phone usage, Im a 28 year old, felt old already and I just want a simple fuss free phone. I hate to accept that I have to resort to iOS for iPhone 12 mini. I want to stay with Xiaomi, pls Xiaomi
Same here. I want to stay with xiaomi but I think they are no longer interested in non huge phones.
So when my mi9 se has some trouble I will switch to a different one.
Zenphone 8 is a good option. Or S21. Or pixel 5 or, 4a
https://elrincondechina.com/noticias/noticias-de-moviles-smartphones/un-xiaomi-mi-6-2021-llegaria-pronto-con-zoom-optico-5x-y-120hz/
In Spanish. They talked about a mi 6 2021
Looks amazing if true
Just rumors and theories but…

That would be awesome if true!
If they don’t make that smartphone by December, I am leaving xiaomi for other brand.
Enough with all these refrigerator smartphones.
I am stuck with my Mi6 for four years now, switched the battery, replaced the screen.. What else.
We need a flagship not redmi.
Enough is enough!😠
I like the refrigerator smartphones hahahaha!
Same here. I’m better since I’m using the mi9se which I love.
BTW, there are new rumours, but just that rumours of a 2021 version of the mi6
[https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/07/01/xiaomi-mi-6-2021-edition-could-be-in-the-works/](https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/07/01/xiaomi-mi-6-2021-edition-could-be-in-the-works/)
I’m curious which phone do you plan to buy? Pixel, Zenfone, Sony, S21?
Sorry bro, I am addicted to xiaomi,
No way I am replacing.(all my products is xiaomi made)
Only if they don’t make a small size flagship I am going to leave them that’s for sure.(It will be a very hard decision) Sony’s are good but too thin in width.. They have no brain,it’s a shame and a very expensive phones. (in a nut shell there is no alternative to xiaomi dear.)
Xiaomi’s UI is the best and fastest ever made.
Can’t tolerate Samsung’s UI and the quality.
We need xiaomi, hope they don’t disappoint!! Otherwise…
They should target all customers groups this is what good companies do.
