My mom uses a Redmi Note 9 and through every update, Xiaomi/Redmi is removing features. It’s getting so so frustrating. Through the first update, they removed the option to turn off search from popping up when we open the app drawer. It wasn’t that big of a deal, I installed POCO launcher. A few months ago, another update came and it removed the option of switching back to the old MIUI 11 control center. 2 days ago, another update and this one is the most frustrating. They freakin’ ***removed split screen and picture-in-picture*** and the ability to pin apps in the background. **LIKE WHAT??** What the hell is wrong with Xiaomi? What are they doing? I only bought Redmis for my parents because they were comfortable using it. But this is seriously getting bad and we all need to speak up. **XIAOMI NEEDS TO STOP DOING THIS BS.**
Unfortunately, I can’t post images.
Yup
IDK, I updated today and everything works just like it worked. Grouping in notification drawer is broken for some apps but I can live with it until they fix it.
I use LineageOS on my Redmi Note 5
I bricked my redmi note 9 pro global joyeuse code name I tried mi flash tool and I keep getting a error message saying can’t find flash all bat flash I really don’t know what I’m doing first time ever tried the lineos rom and it broke my system
Insta= Instagram
No wait what? I have it! Global EEA MIUI 12.5 Mi Pilot Build..
Maybe you will get it back with 12.5
Nope. And, there’s no ‘mini apps’ option too.
Wats your Instagram name
Oh on my mi10t pro they removed the clear speaker thing
You can still find it through the activity launcher apps.
Did you turn off miui optimization by any chance? Also try default launcher and tell me if it fix the problem… Cause on older androids miui windows etc is tied with default launcher
cause they added so many useless features that its making the whole system laggy..
A
See this if you don’t believe: https://imgur.com/a/jvNiUV2
sorry for a reply to an old comment but thats very interesting because after every update my phone gets slower and harder to use 😐 it would be cool if they made phones to last
If I’m not mistaken, Xiaomi remove those features temporarily from few devices because of issues. You will get it back after they fixed it
Wait, redmi note 9 has a search bar and an app drawer?????
I’ve been using mine for like a year now and it doesn’t have any of that.
I’m some with xiaomi. Too bloated these days. Been with them since 2016 but at this point I have too many privacy concerns that my data is going straight to ccp.
Ur comparing two completely different things lmfaoo
Sorry what is that a message app??
Not yet as this isn’t my phone
It depends on the custom rom. Some may add features, some remove unused features to lighten up your phone, often it does both.
Agree. I’m a Redmi Note 8 user and they turned the control center to grey which looks really ugly.
Stupid question:
You said you searched for it in status bar settings, did try looking in the notification settings? They might have moved it there
That’s the same with old control centre too. When you search for it, it’s there but it’s not there when we tap it.
True, but you can bypass this with magisk.
Going back too Samsung Galaxy phones they update every month
What custom rom do you recommend for a person that has never used any?
And how does taking out the option to change back to old control centre affect performance?
Hit up my Instagram
Yes and they also removed the blur effects and more. I dont know what the fuck they are doing.
Same.
I see. Btw, just to know, I’m using the weekly beta there and some phones are starting to run out of space in the system partition, where miui is installed. If it doesn’t have any more space, it may not recieve updates.. This partiton could probably be resized only if a format took place, which probably almost no casual user would want. Just saying. Xiaomi managed though to release updates for those phones this week (unlike the previous ~1-2 weeks). I’m talking about miui 12.6 btw.
Okay
So u cant do the pip mode on YouTube now?
Again, it works fine for me after today’s update. Maybe my usage pattern is different.
For pixel experience, how soon after a major Android update will the PE rom be available? Like with Android 11, how soon after the official release of Android 11 was the Android 11 PE based rom released?
I used to be able to do mini-apps or side-by-side apps, but I no longer can.
I have a 12.1.3 and I still have it. I just need to look it up in the settings menu
I’m on the same version as u
9 Pro.
Redmi note 9?
Thank you very much again
I have a Redmi K30s Ultra (the same as the Mi 10t) on MIUI 12.5 China ROM, and I have the clear speaker option. So maybe it will come back on 12.5 global ROM?
I looked there, it isn’t present!
ph. ok.
I’m using a custom rom in my Note 5. But these are my family’s phones and they’re just used to MIUI, so I just can’t change it.
This right here is the correct way to do it. Take the hardware for the value and remove the blob
They brag so much about having so much features yet they lag the the most basic functions hypocrite.
my phone just updated to android 11. and i can still change to old style control center. what version is your phone?
Why take it away from the recents screen tho? That was way easier
Yeah,
dont do it again. We all learn from our mistakes
MIUI 12.5, right?
On newer devices the section is called “Notifications and control center”. It would be dumb not to be there since it’s in the name. Well that’s shame. Didn’t hurt to try at least.
That might the case with split screen and all, but the old control centre and stuff, what about that?
These are device specific. MIUI 12 on my Redmi Note 7 Pro and Redmi 9A works just fine. It’s only with the Note 9.
Is that the thing for when it gets wet?
I don’t say I don’t believe you but it is very strange that they remove features from specific device model and not the others. On the other hand it’s Xiaomi, they act like a bunch of drug addicts for years.
It’s already updated
This is a regular Note 9
I think this is specific to the regular Note 9. Coz the Redmi Note 7 Pro and Redmi 9A that I have is just fine.
Mine’s a Redmi Note 9. Actually not mine, my mom’s. Mine’s Redmi Note 5 and it runs LineageOS
Isn’t the new control wanting more performance?
One good I’ve used on my mia2 is pixel experience and crdroid
It’s on Android 10 itself. Which is your phone?
This is not about the frequency of updates, but the stability
What are good custom roms I should check out?
Im about to get my 3rd xiaomi phone (previously was redmi, next is poco) and never felt a reason to change the rom.
While playing a video on YouTube, did you try leaving the app via the back swipe gesture (not the home swipe gesture)?
Because you updated and it cleared the recents.
That’s the reason you should check the forums before updating and read the patch notes
If you don’t like what you see, you shall not update
“I stubbed my toe, it hurts.”
Your solution: Just don’t stub your toe
You realize how dumb that sounds?
haha and we don’t even get xiaomi.eu I’m seriously tired at this point it feels like a joke with the amount of shit they’re taking from the note 9
Mine is grey most of the time instead of the blurred one but at times, there’s nothing. The notifications just come on top of the wallpaper
Have you tried xiaomi.eu rom?
You can still pin (lock) apps
go to security app – select boost speed – select cog at top right – select lock apps
All the rest there Xiaomi said was removed temporarily because of performance issues on that device
Are there any other important things that you lose access to when switching? Like split screen or google assistant or double tap recents button to go to latest opened app or not supporting opening some extensions (.png, .jpeg . docx .pdf etc…)
Does tap to pay work on custom roms? Afaik you can’t have that working with a rooted device.
Another stupid thing in MIUI – when using full screen gestures, you can’t go to one handed mode. The only way you can do it is through quick ball, which is irritating. And, if that’s not a feature, why can’t they atleast say that one handed mode isn’t available when using full screen gestures? There is always an option to turn it on and customise it based on the software buttons.
I honestly don’t know why you are noticing these features given I have a way underpowered redmi note 5 pro and these features are still there on miui 12.
For the old control center you should go to the display and then search for status bar and disable new control center. Or just directly search in settings for control center.
Picture in picture are there as well, go to recents and long press the app you want in split screen and you should be able to find an option for split screen and the apps that support pip will show you stuff in pip. But to test it, watch some youtube video in chrome browser and then exit from it. If the video window pops up in pip then it’s still working.
Removing features on devices with less than 6GB Ram.
Just install a custom rom, MIUI Global roms are shit
Do you know how to unbrick it? If not I can help you with that, chuck me a message on insta: khtab.bb
I’m not able to post screenshots, but when we search for Control Centre in the settings, it shows the result. But when we take that tab, there’s no toggle. And about picture in picture, it used to be present 3 days ago, but not now. Long pressing an app in the recents takes us to app info for some strange reason instead of split screen, p-i-p and lock apps. There was a shortcut for p-i-p too.. when se swipe up from the bottom and take the app to the top right, that app used to be in p-i-p but that’s also gone.
My device never had any performance issues
I’m sticking with Xiaomi for there hardware value and, I’ll just continue to flash pixel experience onto them
title needs more caps, ohhhh wait
Because of this BS I straight up went full de-googled/xiaomi and installed lineageOS with microg. **I** own my device, not you, Xiaomi.
I hate is as well they only let me use dual space for a glimpse on my entry budget phone then they turn it off next update
Some of them do, I’m flashing pixel experience plus and it works perfectly fine, you also get the pixel goodies such as unlimited storage for Google photos, updated Google assistant, call screening and hold. And pixel experience plus is just such a nice rom
I was eyeing pixel experience. Tempting….
That was useless anyway.
redmi note 9 pro
miui 12.0.1 just received android 11 update a few days ago
Nah its your gayboi txting you
I searched the whole settings
Definitely check out LineageOS. I’m running it on my Mi 9t and its very nice, ‘feels like a massive upgrade. I hear good things about CorvusOS too though haven’t tried that myself.
Edit: Evolution X might be a good choice as well
Khtab.bb
I installed a custom ROM for this exact reason.
Install a custom ROM, like pixel experience (normal or plus),lineage os, havok os etc
anything goes but i recently switched back to lineageOS
Fact related 💯
I totally agree with you
You can turn on that in the settings. Or Idk if they removed that feature too.
Can confirm, dunno why tho
We’re stuck at MIUI 12.0.8. Hoping 12.5 will fix atleast some of the basic issues
Okay how about we reword it
“I did something, I regret it”
Your solution: Just don’t do it then
Now do you see how redundant your solution is
It’s working on my device, maybe its device specific?
At first they only removed the control center. That’s all i know. Maybe wait for the next update
I got a port for the miui camera app for custom ROMs if u want
I will never buy another Xiaomi phone. I have the Mi9 and hate the skin. OnePlus was my favorite. I will try Asus next. Maybe it’s time for IPhone sooner or later, getting fed up with crappy android phones.
Xiaomi phones are good if you know how to install a custom rom on them its like giving you a threadripper with windows xp good hardware bad software
No, this device never lagged which was a surprise.. anyway, how does taking out the option to change to ille control center affect perfomance? When we search for control centre in the settings it is there but when you take the toggle that option is not present.
First of all, the Note 9 runs on a Mediatek chip so it’s hard and second, my family is just used to MIUI. So even if it’s possible, I can only install MIUi EU rom or something
Just install a custom rom at this point. tbh i’ll only buy xiaomi for the hardware now. i don’t think i would ever want the stock global miui with ads and bloatware. i can just install xiaomi eu roms and they have none of that
Ok yes thank you very much for your help
For me Control center and notification grey background drowns the user experience
12.5 fixed issues for me.. 🙂 hopefully it does for you too!
My device is Mi 10T
Yup
a novice question but I have heard custom roms break the ability to run specific apps like banking ones. Is it true?
Oh it changed the place where it was found it now btw m battery life is terrible do u have the same problem and the sides scratch super easily I wish it wasn’t glossy
I used to use custom ROMS on my Redmi Note 5 and currently use a MIUI 11+Android 9 port but these devices are my family devices. I can’t install custom rom on those.
Downvoted? Mad kiddos 😂
do not update it . problem solved
I don’t know how too I miss my camera xiaomi got the best cameras
ooo thats weird…have you tried searching speaker and the option will likely be there
What version are you on may i ask, I still got mine in 12.1.3
I believed you without the proof. Just tried to be helpful. I hope they’ll just just fix it the future
Yeah, MIUI is absolute crap from MIUI 12. The dream is great but the execution is really poor.
Using [Activity Launcher](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.szalkowski.activitylauncher) and searching for *speaker* seems to work.
Fortunately the setting does show up that way, for the time being since who knows what might happen later.
