Running MIUI 10 Global 9.6.27, the last update. Will my phone not get any updates after this? Will I need to flash the stable rom in order to continue to receive updates, or can I expect to receive an update for the next stable version?
Because most of the changes is per-app basis, which should be released via other means, like the play store. The core system is largely unchanged on weekly basis.
Unlock it ASAP at least once
You don’t have to, as long as the stable version is newer than the beta. Just flash recovery or fastboot without data wipe.
I’m more afraid of them stopping the BL unlock l.
Don’t be upset. I think the 2-month interval of stable updates is still great when compared to many other manufacturers. Plus, they might speed up the stable update releases as they mentioned.
Bye MIUI Global..
And HI MIUI EU 🙋
Goodbye Xiaomi. Hello Samsung.
Thanks!
I can’t really argue about that. When I first started using Xiaomi phones and Global Beta more than 3 years ago, I loved it because other manufacturers did tend to not upgrade at all. Moreover, Android and MIUI was less complete, getting features earlier felt great. Nowadays, it’s different.
I also saw this step coming for some time now. I’m using the Mix 2 and during the last year, developers were hardly able to write down patch notes at all. Every week I read ‘bugfixes’.
Any word on how they are going to handle Global Beta users? I guess they’ll just merge stable and beta somehow. But I wouldn’t really want to get downgraded back to an older, stable version.
to my knowledge, yes. that’s what i plan to do also. though i plan on waiting for the June stable before flashing
But also let you at custom sounds
Mi Mix 3 Global Dev rom is the only reason I have custom notifications for apps the stable rom doesn’t give you the option to change sound notifications
I downloaded the stable rom. Can i directly flash it using updater app without unlocking bootloader? (Poco f1)
Beta usually has worse battery life compared to Stable from my experience
There’s still Chinese Beta though.
You don’t have to unlock bootloader to install official beta
after july 1 yes. so you’ll have to go back to stable
You missed the point – MIUI weekly betas are unironically usually more stable than MIUI global ‘stable’ versions
Weekly beta are very stable
So monthly ones will be okay
But the thing is beta doesn’t felt like beta for me. It felt like stable released, but released bit by bit every few weeks. Instead of one major update after a few months
what does this mean for custom rom users. I use a beta firmware for it atm.
Oh…just great !
Now all of us won’t get beta Roms !
Great job Xiaomi !
To be fair, their feedback app is horrible and not prominent enough.
Even windows 10 feedback app is much better
Still no Mi 9 notification fix for EEA. Starting to annoy me that they don’t care about the customers of their FLAGSHIP product
I have the beta in my Poco f1, it never will get an update? I must change to stable? Sorry I’m very confused
Isn’t that only for older devices?
You should get am update soon, I got one today on my Max 3 with May security patch. They usually send OTA updates every 2 months
it ***may*** mean that
Got Mi9 three days ago. Unvoluntary switch from OP3. Dammit.
Stable monthly? I would consider that beta :p
Bought the mix 3 for 2 months and still no update for global stable 🙁
What about the new Huawei os? Will Xiaomi let us test this sailfish based os on our devices?
That seems fair, weekly updates which weren’t only for beta testing but used as daily driver seems a bit overkill.
If they can continue to release monthly updates that’s already a lot more than most manufacturers do.
Also it’s only the Global beta rom, which was already behind in it’s new features in favour of the China beta rom. No mention of that stopping so far.
The special [xiaomi.eu](https://xiaomi.eu) rom is also based on the China beta rom, apart for some exotic devices that only have a global rom released. Luckily the impact for that seems to be limited.
It literally says in the title “MIUI Global Beta”.
Miui china beta is concerned i think!?
Ok but everyone’s ignoring the fact that they’re stopping just the Global, no mention of the China Beta so I suppose that will continue to be released. Probably, as they said, there were few people with the Global Beta, and only a small portion of the users were giving feedback. But all the new stuff is in the China ROM anyway, when the features are passed down to the Global they’re already pretty stable, I never saw the usefulness of having two channels of beta. In addition to that, custom roms (eg Xiaomi.eu) tend to use the China Beta as a base, so they won’t be affected unless their source was the Global. So I think there’s really nothing much going on, just a practical decision that shouldn’t really impact on many people.
Xiaomi.eu is based on the Chinese rom
What impact on xiaomi.eu beta rom?
Oh hell no rip.
If they’re killing the beta program to “speed up” the stable releases, it’s OK to me. This will solve a lot of technical support for users who “try” the beta builds and then can’t go back to the stable branch because locked bootloader or other misunderstandings.
If they keep the current speed of stable releases after killing open betas, the community will slowly die and migrate to other brands. And this could cause Xiaomi to end or heavily restrict their current bootloader unlock procedures.
If stable update come monthly with features
It’ll still be good for the community
Indeed. I just hope they will start release stable version more frequently now since they won’t give us the possibility to download beta’s anymore
I’m on beta & stability is better than the stable ROM
Not having betas means faster stable updates
I mean MiUi betas are are pretty stable
Exactly, no more beta versions to use
Which means we cant try the beta and give feedbacks ?
We won’t be able to download beta ROM’s anymore, only stable ones once they get released.
I am not expert, but reason to stop open betas just because of low report ratio is stupid. They should be happy that people are willingly installing beta because each device is used in different environment and something can break any time.
P.S Maybe it is good sign that report count is low which means they are releasing stable versions and know what are they doing.
Rip MIUI community. The only reason MIUI community was pretty active was because of the beta ROMs.
This was coming though with xiaomi releasing tons of phones in a short amount of time, it must have gotten pretty hard for the devs to catch up and also remember that xiaomi’s profit margins are pretty low so they probably don’t wanna invest more on the software testing department.
It’s all good though as they’ve promised to release timely stable updates plus more people will dive into the world of custom ROMs.
I dont understand ? Someone explains please.
Wow. Very disappointing.
