XIAOMI device’s are awesome, MIUI is, at best, mediocre

I brought a K20 pro variant last month, It was a great deal price/spec comparison. All around the phone was incredible with little to no problems except the mutant MIUI which is the worst experience I’ve had ever from Mobile OS.

I just switched to Evolution X custom rom after a month of bad experience with MIUI, and oh my god what a difference it made. I won’t elaborate, but try it for yourself.

The difference is phenomenal.

Exactly, literally all the negatives I’ve had with my Redmi note 9s are all software side, but hardware wise it’s great, and the camera with GCAM installed is absolutely amazing, but the miui camera software is horrendous.

Recently I’ve installed Pixel experience on my old Redmi 3S and, besides the lack of internal storage, poor camera sensor and only 2gb the ram, the system navigation experience became waaaay better than was with miui 10, the last version available for the device. Back in 2016 I had the wrost experience ever with this phone and his poor system navigation experience and his badly administration of the 2gb of ram.

Now I sincerely like the device, except the camera, but the device now is a good secondary.

I’m running beta on eu for the last 1.5 months. It does have more ram available and with a few tricks most of my previous complaints about ram management are gone.

MIUI has more features than stock android
MIUI brings a lot of stock android features in MIUI updates (xiaomi can’t update every device they made to the newest version of android so miui replaces a lot of those features)
In the past even on a device with 8gb of ram I would have 3.5gb free because of miui bloat. Now I regularly have 4.5-5gb ram free, that means miui is using 1gb-1.5 less

I honestly kind of like MIUI. It’s quite a difference after having used stock Android coming from a Nexus 5 and a OnePlus 3 running LineageOS, but I like the look of most things (especially the control center) and it has a couple of pretty nice features that stock Android doesn’t have.

Considering how themeable MIUI is if you think it’s ugly it’s very easy to change how it looks.

Personally I think it looks great. Much better than stock.

I’ve used custom ROMs on Xiaomi phones before, but I always end up going back to MIUI for the simple reason that no custom ROM has implemented app cloning like MIUI does. That’s a feature that I simply cannot live without and no third party app comes close to doing it as well as MIUI does. I have a few minor niggles with MIUI (especially as they relate to notifications) but nothing that I can’t live with considering how good I think the rest of MIUI is.

I switched from a Mi 10 ultra to a Samsung because I couldn’t put up with the software. Specifically for [xiaomi.eu](https://xiaomi.eu), it’s not that the software is bloated or slow, it’s just that it has so many minor bugs/annoyances that sum up to a headache at times. I felt the Samsung I got was way more bloated out of the box and had to remove a ton of garbage via ADB which was a hassle but at least now it works hassle free after initial set up.

Why don’t more makers offer basically stock android similar to the Pixel? I know people with OnePlus phones who basically love how close oxygen is to stock android for example. Why spend time and money developing stuff if anecdotally it doesn’t even feel like the user base finds it better?

stock android is super basic & you have to install like 30 3rd party applications to get it to a daily driver state.

I personally love MIUI. I’ve tried EMUI, I’ve tried stock, I’ve tried custom but I’ve always gone back to MIUI for its usefulness.

At this point, I just need a phone (like Apple) to just work and do its job. I don’t bother with rooting and I don’t really care about how much information is sent to where and whom.

MIUI to me is a clean experience.

The normal camera on GCAM is better. But tbh my phone’s stock camera has amazing features, I was shocked. It has long exposure modes, Skyscaping, pro mode, RAW mode, focus peaking, vlog mode and even cloning mode

You are delusional. Of course the people who seek out a discord group are more into flashing ROMs. The reality may be closer to 3-5% at best.

Themes on custom roms are better. They are free and you can customize it even further. With MIUI you can mix and match but that’s it.

Which minor bugs are you referring to? Mi10 ultra is a fairly new phone, so “” it’s understandable”” that some bugs are there.
Why didn’t you debloat your mi10 the same way you did on the Samsung phone?
A large share of Android versions (not modded) are bloated with stuff, especially google’s, but technically speaking is generally pretty easy to remove that stuff.
Personally i love the way miui global feels once debloated. Yes it’s a little heavy but I’m using miui 12 on a Mi8 so it’s kind of fair.
What One plus did, was offering a flagship device for half the price of its competitors. Xiaomi started doing the same.
Then they took different roads: Op’s prices grew by a lot, not leaving much space between it’s contestants, while Xiaomi kept the prices lower but opted for a more subtle-software oriented way of earning, built in ads. But you can turn then off, with adb you can easily debloat the remaining garbage, or 90% of it and even then if you’re not satisfied you can opt to modding.
Then again, maybe one preferences leads them to a specific exclusive function of an OS, or just the general “vibe”.

Unlocking is the easiest part, just got to download the software and in a couple of clicks you’re out in the wild. Personally I find much scarier messing with bootloader. Hence that’s why I’ve unlocked my mi8 6 months ago but didn’t do nothing lol

I just said I didn’t find the EU ROM bloated. I found it had a lot of small issues that added up to just an annoying experience coming from a Pixel. Just to name a few minor complaints:
    1. Inability to receive MMS messages over wifi no matter how many tweaks I made
    2. Trying to auto copy authentication codes via text never actually worked
    3. Apps not properly displaying sometimes. The latest stable ROM update made the keyboard display over apps in weird ways. A good example is fb messenger would require me to exit the keyboard to hit send
    4. Latest update broke the phone app where I couldn’t even answer calls.

It’s a bunch of small inconveniences like these that add up. The Chinese ROM was even worse. I’m sure phones with global ROMs work better but it feels like xiaomi isn’t really invested in bringing them outside of China which is a shame.

From what I understand, they’re likely phasing out those two apps.

I’ve been using the MIUI sms app, and a while ago I started getting **in-app** notifications advising me to switch to Google Messages.

My bad for that part, read too fast.
However it’s werid that you find this problems on .eu which usually is more stable (at the least in the stable versions lol, which one are you on?).
The bugs you’re talking about are indeed are not present on my actual version, but i assume that there are on yours because again, new phone, maybe latest software, bad combo generally speaking. Hsve you found anyone else with the same issues? Also MMS over wifi is a new thing to me. Aren’t you referring to MiMessage which works kind of iMessage? Because regular MMS need to pass over cell towers like sms do

I’ve heard a lot of complaints about how buggy MIUI 12 was, and how people regretted updating to it.

Is 12.5 similar in that regard?

12.5 is still in beta but overall my experience has been mostly positive. The few bugs I have usually get fixed the following update. Only bug I can speak of is with my podcast player app but it’s possible that’s related to the new miui unified media hub which let’s audio related apps play over others.

    Xiaomi mi 10 8-128.

That said being the tech nerd of most of my friends, I’m the first to hear hell if they have issues.
My buddy got a mi 10t pro global on my suggestion (I have a few videos on the channel comparing screens and other parts of the device if you search my name on youtube)

He’s been using it for 4 months and he has only positive things. He hasn’t had any issues or bugs that get in the way of him using the device (he’s an average user).

I find most people who complain about continued bugs are
Using indian devices which have quite a few adds built in for the indian market

Using a china device outside of china

Power users who are nitpicking over animation stutters and on aging hardware

People who have had miui or android updates and not done factory resets in between updates. Big updates usually have changes and there can be compatibility issues. A factory reset often fixes these

People who are less familiar with miui. There’s a lot of settings and things that can be done optimize your experience (I’m recording a video this weekend about what you can do in miui 12.5)

In my personal experience with my group of friends who are non power users they have been quite happy with their devices as long as the device is the global version

I’m on a Mi9 with stock MIUI. I installed Gcam but I can’t see the day and night difference you’re speaking about. Yes, the Gcam ui is better, but the actual photos are better when taken via the MIUI app. An example? I wear glasses and I can take portrait mode selfies with the stock camera, while the Google camera blurs the shit out of them.

You could still try to tear it down and figure if it’s fixable or not

Tastes are different I’m on a xiaomi Mi 10T pro and I love miui. So much more options and possibilities than oxygen on an OnePlus that I was used to before.

The more options the better, basic software is a giant bore.

Depends on the region and the regional OS version (China, World, Europe…).
There is no ads in system apps in EU ROM for example. (But in the Browser, Mi Music and so on).

I too find the new functions of MIUI12 not Catering to my needs. I absolutely never ever use floating windows. And I outrightly hate floating popup windows from messenger apps.
But I like the gesture navigation (the Xiaomi version in Miui11 even better than the more Android 10-like gestures on Miui12).

I like the Super Wallpapers, but in the end you just use them when you don’t have a nice photo of your own.

I dislike the new split quick settings and notification pull down (Control Center). As a left handed person, I always pull down the wrong one…

But if you ever had a Huawei or Nokia device that would not work with Android Auto in your car. Or a Sony that would not receive security updates let alone Android version updates…you realize Xiaomi is still in the upper end of Android OS versions…

Sadly for me, my Mi8 won’t receive the 12.5 update, but I’ll check it out, I’m curious.. (maybe the .eu will do a porting?)

    > I find most people who complain about continued bugs are…

Yeah i know, it’s annoying when the problems are about not doing factory reset, using the wrong rom etc..
My main concerns are the classic things like “does it run slower on x device”, memory management, new useless functions, and so on.

Where I live (Germany), banking apps look for open bootloader and such and will not run on anything that has not its vendor’s official software on it.

Personally, I’m a big fan of MIUI. Ive been using it since MIUI 6, and i prefer it to stock android. Often features available on new Android versions nare introduced into new versions of MIUI, so i see it as a way of getting new features without necessarily getting a new Android version.

True. I have the same story as yours. Mi 9T Pro, got fed up with miui’s crap. Switched to miui.eu. Experience was definitely better but after a couple of month it was starting to get sluggish and battery was draining crazy fast.
I don’t really like unofficial rom, there’s always little annoying bugs, but Lineage OS isn’t officially available for this phone so I tried Pixel Experience. I’m using it for 6 months now. It’s crazy fast and the system is much more coherent than Miui. GCam does the job perfectly. I don’t miss MIUI one sec.

If you’ll do it the official way I don’t think so, but I’m not sure

Once I unlocked the bootloader and my dumbass bricked the phone (crappy TWRP + removed vendor); I gave it to them to repair it and they did lol

Can you make a video of that rom? I am hesitant to change the rom because my customization will be lost. Sadly i had bad experience with backups

In my experience, gcam improves low quality camera setups much more, when cameras are already good, it can’t do much better unless there’s a really good device specific version+ config file is released.

Because of EU regulations regarding call recording being weird and most importantly because Google dialer and SMS have useful features: RCS, one type password integration with gboard (already the default kboard), spam detection, caller id.

It’s unstable, there are random lags everywhere, it’s unresponsive, ram management can’t keep more than 3 apps or sometimes even 1. You might not notice how sluggish it is until you try comparing it with another software. But that isn’t even the problem, the problem is that it is less reliable than custom roms since I have had way more problems on MIUI than on say evox. One time it started bootlooping after I changed wallpaper to a live bing wallpaper for example. What the hell
Edit: I have a mi 9t pro. Aka k20 pro. So not a bad phone

I don’t want to turn off animations. That’s not a solution. Also animation are not my problem with performance and I’m fine on evox where I can have good animations, good performance, exceptional stability, as many apps open as I can to actually multitask and good battery despite all this

Thank you, MIUI is terrible. I’m thankful for their “take back consent” switches to turn off the factory spyware, but otherwise… Developer Options “MIUI optimization” interferes with app installation, like with the Aurora Store and there are tons of problems, generally.

Coming from OxygenOS with the (Xiaomi affiliated) OnePlus 7T Pro, to this Mi 10T Lite was definitely a downgrade and not just in hardware. Waiting for months (and months) for an update that will fix apps not remembering battery optimization on device reboot, for example.

I’m not trying to collect down-votes here, but MIUI seems to be ridiculous because of the agenda Xiaomi has… If you know of their advertising, data collection (and so on), then you’ll know what I’m on about. Peace! 🙂

EDIT: Just to be clear, Google, Apple, Samsung and many, many, others are doing it on the sly and Xiaomi should be congratulated for being open and transparent! My problem isn’t with that, but with the concept of companies and manufacturers thinking they have some sort of right to our information, or telemetry, or whatever. They really don’t.

Yes, usually it works. But there are methods to determine if the phone has ever been flashed. Some banks take this very seriously – so it cannot be recommended for everybody to flash their devices. Apart from that, most people don’t even dare to reinstall their computers, which is even simpler than flashing a third-party OS onto an Android device.

I fucking HATE the Google Dialer and Messages apps. No auto redial function, a call recording notification that is heard by person infront in dialer and no grouping of messages in messaging app and boring flat design.

You can use the website, if your device and /or browser is secure. That requires some work, from default installations. Then again, if you install their app (that can apparently scan for bootloader and OS status, or whatever, LOL), then it would seem you’re opening yourself up to bank malware… What insanity.

Yes, that’s what I did. It’s just…if all features that were advertised as being new in Miui12 – I did not like them or they are not relevant (like animated diagram of the memory utilization…who looks at this when the phone is not filled up?).
I liked Miui11 better. But Miui12 is OK, too.
The new gestures are more finicky than the old ones, but I got used to them so much I do not want to go back to button navigation.

Right. The worst thing that can happen is a keylogger, and that can happen even to not rooted users since all it requires is for you to change keyboard..
Maybe the problem is banks saving passwords or something else as plaintext on the device storage but that seems insane and if it is that they should fix that asap anyways

Now that’s just a ridiculous claim.

I doubt they are better and themes on MIUI are also free.
I honestly only change the icons with the themes app, everything else in MIUI looks good.

In Europe it’s because of GDPR.
Xiaomi’s EEA ROMs are GDPR compliant.

I have 2 instagram accounts for example. Basically you can have multiple instances of the same social media/messaging app and it works really well on MIUI.

    AOSP roms are great.
But when I switch to them I misses Mi Dialer, Mi Messenger and other Mi features like Mi Cloud backup for call logs, msgs, etc.
I also use Mi9T Pro, it came with Google Dialer and Messenger. But they are crap compared to Mi Dialer and Messenger. I lost many sms backup when I was using Google’s sms cloud backup.
There are other small features like scrolling screenshots, screen recorder, better call recorder, etc.
I love Google’s material design but I miss those MIUI features badly.
So Xiaomi.eu custom rom is the best option for me. They take the most optimized, bug free china firmware and modify it and optimize it with Google services and make it better. China firmware is way better than Global firmware and they make it more better while retaining official miui feel.
    You should try it too

not really, there are a lot of stuff you can mess up that may not cause a brick, for example not fully wiping the old data partition causing the new and old OS to conflicting with each other. Also as stated above some custom ROM are so bad cause they are just in beta or newly ported from somewhere

Instagram actually allows multiple accounts within the same app instance, so it’s not really needed.
    It works quite well also.

I personally think it’s even worse than mediocre.

The software issues I’ve had thus far are too many. For starters, on a daily basis the phone just decides that I will simply not receive or make calls at all. People try to call me, it tells them my line’s busy, I try to call them, it hangs up immediately. The messages just don’t send if I try sending multiple in a row. Now I’m gonna go on a limb and say that’s not Google’s fault, since I haven’t heard many people say they have this issue on any other device.

Regularly the phone would start reading random ghost touches and that pisses me all the way off. It could be a hardware issue, and if it is, there’s an extra bit of criticism for them. Also enabling VoLTE hides the caller ID from whoever’s calling me which is fucking stupid. All that on top of just the overall mediocrity of the UI itself makes it an unpleasant experience.

The phone in question is Redmi Note 9 Pro and the worst thing of all is I have a neighbour who also has it, and I can confirm he has all but two of these issues I mentioned, the only two he doesn’t have are ghost touch and the VoLTE caller ID shit, and even that I don’t know because he never tried enabling it.

I’m not gonna flash a custom ROM on it though, because I need the warranty to be active as I fully intend on selling the phone in the coming weeks. Fortunately it was dirt cheap so I won’t take too big of a hit. I just hope I don’t get driven over the edge and smash it into the fucking wall before I do sell it.

It’s definitely better than Samsung’s UI. Had Samsung for years and switched about 2 years ago to the Mi 9. Currently on the Mi Note 10. Many features that have been part of MIUI for years, are now finally appearing on other Android builds.

Here’s some reasonable ones from me.

There are stutters present in MIUI that is not on Stock Android

Control Center is an IOS ripoff

Wasted/empty space in the notification shade

If their messaging app would support Google RCS, that would be the top of things.

    1. It depends on the phone. I feel that for the most part people exagerate a lot regarding this matter.
    2. The classic MIUI control center is still present so it’s a pointless complaint that doesn’t give any veridicity to the hole: “MIUI looks so terrible”.
    3. In my experience the Android style notification settings on MIUI makes notifications quite similar to stock Android, not to mention they don’t look bad either way.

There’s quite a differences between “I don’t likely how these elements in MIUI look or they look bad in my opinion” vs “MIUI is so incredibly ugly”.

Yes MIUI sucks, doesn’t matter the hardware, sooner or later it will craw with bugs.
It’s also basically a clone of IOS so it has no identity.

What made me ditch xiaomi was that some features wasn’t present in all phones, even though they shared the same hardware.

I have a k20 pro, I don’t really notice ads.. I was contemplating getting a note 10 pro if it’s released soon or 9 pro because they have micro SD.. are these mid-range phones affected by this ad hell people are describing?

MIUI is a love/hate relationship for users. IMO it has everything i need from rooting without actually rooting my phone(rooting for some. mobile games is a big no-no so as of late y try to avoid it as magisk is hit or miss) , so I really like it.

The actual point is that the (regular) end user would be able to operate the user space (and not admin, root) any which way they see fit; and for it to not be dictated by Google, the device manufacturer, or anybody else.

We’re, currently, not given a choice all that much… Illustrated by various projects, like you mention, such as TWRP recovery and others. Then, the device has to be supported; or, we can use a Xiaomi flasher specifically, but that’s 3rd-party also – and to make use of fastboot manually would be a nightmare to say the least. Then, there’s the actual ROMs and that whole -current- situation.

Anyway, I’m betting that we’ll see one of two things happen once a Linux distro reaches the point of just being able to install to any device, or similar: some companies will double down on the stupidity (like Samsung) and start even more hardcore-exploiting their users and others (like maybe Lenovo, or whoever), they’ll become mindful of their actions and programming. Right, probably wishful thinking.

Anyway, I wasn’t just trying to play smart and surely many others are also dissatisfied with the state of things… and there’s a lot to it.

When you unpack the phone, they have the on-screen buttons enabled. (My kids use the phones like this). You have to choose the gestures in the settings.

Probably that is what people do when phones are on display.

Anyway, on our Samsung tablets the gestures are the same (Home, back, multitask and swipe to the last active app at least). It has now become an Anrdoid 10 thing, whereas under Android 9 the MIUI11 gestures were Xiaomi’s own.

What is different between brands is wether you swipe left right in the multitask view or up down….that is different between my Xiaomi phone and my Samsung tablet. Always quite disturbing, actually.

In the mi stores they have their Xiaomi self promotion software running taking up the whole screen and you have to move around with gestures. that’s what I meant. UI is all in Chinese otherwise I’d change it

Nope. If they detect any form of inconsistency, they lock out/become useless.

That’s why some people could simply not get something like an Xiaomi device if they are not good enough friends with the UI.

Samsung does this better I believe. You have a whole ‘nother space on your phone which offers you work apps. Cloned apps that are encrypted and different from normal user apps.

I really like the xiaomi phones as well. I started with Note 4g I believe. Got Note 9S now.

The only things I dislike are the fact you gotta wait like 2 weeks to unlock the bootloader or something so you can put custom roms on it.

And that my phone service is trying to tell me my phone isn’t compatible with their shit anymore and wouldn’t let me pay on the website. Why they know or care what kind of phone I have seems pretty stupid, still works just fine. Think they are just trying to block Chinese phones or something.

Can’t see what the fuss is the Miui either. I don’t use the stock launcher, but everything else seems fine to me. What is it that people don’t like about it?

While I have love for the brand, and have purchased two phones, it was 100% failure. Both phones barely made a phone call on Google Fi. Both had to be retired and replaced by Motorola (not s USA company anymore, but a dues paying member of the CCP – Lenovo).
But these make voice calls, data connection works, so while MIUI Is a nice, well maintained branch of Android, the phones proved a failure.

Vanilla Android is wack, but free of bloat and Samsung’s launcher is just wack.

MIUI is not perfect at all but it has given me a waaaay better experience with key features I actually use, like screen recording and casting with actual audio from the device getting recorded in android 7, USB OTG, mi remote, share me, etc. Can’t complain about all the good it offers in comparison to the few bad things it does.

For example, in my Redmi 4A, going back to the home screen can be sluggish, there is no dark mode and the notifications are hell to see late in the night. My Redmi 9’s MIUI took care of all of that and more, but both are still great phones.

The notifications are weird, i had those problems with Miui 11, but since Miui12? No cant complain, tried updating the standard launcher of xiaomi through an newer version of apkmirror? After the miui 12 update i had to manually give every app the notification right for pop-up, lock in settings, maybe try that?

It might be a case of me “not knowing what I’m missing”, but I’ve been a MIUI user since version 4 or 5, currently on the most recent global build on my mi9t pro (k20 pro) and I really like it comparatively to stock android.

It’s definitely a combo of a newer phone that’s not widely available that leads to the somewhat poor support. I don’t think that many people outside China have Mi 10 Ultras. I was on 12.1 stable I believe when I did the last update which fixed some things from 12.0 and made the OS feel even smoother tbh but then broke the phone app and FB messenger which I use to chat with a lot of people.

Not having to download messages over data was more of an issue when I was still on Fi and had to pay for each gig of data but it’s a moot point now. Maybe I’ll give them another try down the road with a global phone, but definitely learned my lesson here regarding buying a niche phone.

MIUI has something very similar with Second Space. But that’s not at all the same, since you have to switch into that to get notifications or use the other apps, which isn’t very convenient to me. With app cloning you can’t use both accounts at the same time without having to switch into Second Space first.

Nope, they may check SafetyNet and SELinux, if both are all good (SafetyNet passing and SELinux Enforcing), then the app will run fine

Considering he’s using EvolutionX (can say a fair bit about what we do since I maintain it for lavender), most devices we support will match both criteria, or atleast SafetyNet will pass, which is the main thing banking apps check.

Since last year, SafetyNet has a new way of checking the device, by checking whether the bootloader is unlocked (I think that’s what you referred to). However, this is still a thing that Google lets devices opt out of due to some older devices (mainly OnePlus) not being able to pass these checks. Custom ROMs take advantage of this in order to pass the check

Also you said further down this thread that a phone that’s been flashed can be somehow detected, however this is purely false. (An exception to this is Samsung devices with knox, but not Xiaomi)

I’ve not yet encountered any banking app I wasn’t able to run with both the conditions outlined above being fulfilled. (Heck even GPay will work)

Still, sorry to hear that part about mms and messages over data, maybe it’s a thing from your country? At the least here in europe as afar as i know, mms require data (but no one uses them anymore) and chats Ike Imessage, MiMessage, whatsapp, etc. Are always over data. So i think you need to change your data plan.
i.e, here in Italy i have unlimited and messages with 50gb for 8$/mo, but you can get other interesting promos that have unlimited data for social apps

The website’s not the same for several banking apps I use. They use the phone as more of a 2nd factor for login on the website. You log in on the website then acknowledge that on the phone. Of course I still think not allowing custom ROMs is awful.

Very small price to pay for the money saved. Previously, I had always been an advocate for Samsung flagship mobiles. Not any more. If Xiaomi keep their prices at an affordable level, I will remain loyal. The tech is very good, the software isn’t that bad. I particularly like the emphasis on battery life. That is key to me.

Well look: the post says that OP hates MIUI and flashed a new ROM: good for them. But aesthetically, I think MIUI looks the best and has the best customization of any android ROM. Back when Samsung had literal boxes in the s4, Xiaomi already adopted more rounded designs for their UI. If you like boring stock andro, then go for it.

This has nothing to do with knowledge, and 100% to do with taste. And since this is Xiaomi, if you hate it, just flash a new rom, there’s no need to attack the “millions” that love MIUI for having inferior knowledge and expectations. You’re just embarrassing yourself.

“Just” flash what new ROM, compiled with how many (cleverly obfuscated backdoors and) bugs, by whom… with what compatibility? Do you even realize what you’re saying, the thousand ways software can go wrong. Have you ever written just a if, then loop in your life. Please, save the attitude for your round, shiny things, Gollum. I’m not the guy and I’ve already said that I realize how this is the wrong place for logic and reason. Take it easy, peace.

you sound like a kid that just discovered how to use kali linux and exit vim. FYI, I do study computer science at mcgill.

As for ROMs? There’s pixel experience. Cyanogen. LineageOs. Some people even flash MIUI.eu, which has no ads and no bloatware.

The first 3 are open source, so if you really care about bAckDoOrs you can go check their code, compile it yourself, and test it out. Spoiler: Thousands of people, smarter than you, have contributed to the project and found no “backdoors”, while issues are resolved very quickly.

So put your tin foil hat back on, activate your rainbow cmd prompt, and keep feeling like a kool haxxor, kid. You won’t impress me.

I’m running a beta so I can only comment on my experience which is that everything works and I have minimal bugs you would need to describe whatever issue you’re running into and more in depth because just telling me that DND doesn’t work isn’t very descriptive. Dnd and nearly every feature works flawlessly

When I’m watching YouTube, browsing through the internet or playing video games and I receive a phone call, the personal data stops connecting, so I can’t have a conversation while doing any of the activities above

I have none of these problems. You might want to try a factory reset and using some of the tweaks I outlined in a recent video

The majority of the problems I see people complaining about in this group can be fixed with a reset and are generally device dependent https://youtu.be/897J4V68Sm4
    Hope these help

Befro the update it was the same thing.

Since I bought the phone actually. I do really miss my old Redmi 4x were every MIUI app worked fine. Now Google doesn’t want them anymore and blocks them even if reinstalled from brand new versions.

It’s fine you prefer the G ones. The problem here is there’s no choice. It’s not possible to use the MUI apps anymore. They are blocked. They crash when you launch them.

    That sounds great.

Maybe it’s because I am from the IT field that I need to test new things before start using them.
I’ve found the xiaoimi.eu site where to [download](https://sourceforge.net/projects/xiaomi-eu-multilang-miui-roms/files/xiaomi.eu/MIUI-STABLE-RELEASES/MIUIv12/) the 12.5 version that my [Redmi 8](https://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_redmi_8-9800.php) device is using right now and this is the place to download it.
I only don’t know the [codename](https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/miui-12-0-12-1-12-2-12-5-stable-release.56191/) of my Redmi 8.

Would you provide me with a little pointer help? You know… am an IT guy but smart phones are still odd for me. A rarity.

Well, here I go by myself… my device Redmi 8 from this part of the world (Latin America) is [codenamed](https://www.getdroidtips.com/xiaomi-smartphones-codename/) olive and, apparently, is [not listed](https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/miui-12-0-12-1-12-2-12-5-stable-release.56191/) for a 12.x ROM download.

    Maybe…?

yeah. some of the older devices dont get [xioami.eu](https://xioami.eu) roms.

xioami eu is just one rom. there are many other roms. you can refer to:

as a helper i can tell you how rom installing process usually happens.

    1. You unlock your phone’s bootloader using whatever tool the phone manufacturer provides. Xiaomi provides an official way to do this.
    2. You install a new recovery. Usually it is TWRP.
    3. You install the ROM using TWRP. Sometimes you might have to flash a new kernel. Most ROM pages will have instructions on how to do all this.

    Have fun !
