I am with you on this. I miss the Xiaomi of old.
No spam. No bloat. No ads. Just a beautiful, stable UI.
Recommended it to so many people. Xiaomi phones were also my first taste of the Android OS and they’re what made me appreciate the platform.
That being said, I believe you’re being just a tad overtly pessimistic here. I don’t think they’ll ever stop providing bootloader unlock codes. Their entire smartphone business model hinges upon it and such a move would make OnePlus the dominant force in a very tech-savvy & ‘mature’ smartphone market.
Xiaomi wouldn’t shoot themselves in the foot. It would be very bad for business.
honestly sounds like a careless programming error. just an extra 0. it just conveniently is exactly 30 days, making it seem intentional. 3 days, or 72 hours, is standard. my Redmi Note 4 and Mi Note 3 both needed 72 hours. My Mi 8 came unlocked.
just remove it
My MI account was 3 years old and it took a month.
And why do I need to unlock bootloader again?
I love xiaomi
wow, that’s weird. would suck to wait all that time
Can someone explain what this system is and if it affects the unlock wait period?
Edit: As an aside, does anyone knwo what the current wait period is for the Note 5 and the Pocophone
Beacuse of the method used to debloat, if you accidentally break something you can boot to recovery mode, factory reset and the apps disabled will be back.
I waited weeks for mine to unlock. When it finally did, I then discovered I needed Windows to run their unlocker program. I don’t use Windows, not do I want to buy a copy just too install it and unlock my phone. I had even planned ahead and downloaded fastboot tools, ready to unlock. Nope.
I haven’t bothered reading into another way around this.
My 4 year old account had instant unlock on my rn5.
Weird, the Note 5 AI that I received on Friday is a 15 day wait.
Yeah, because the way we interact with smartphones is so efficient we should never explore new options /s

Mi mix 3 unlock time is 72 hours (3 days)
where do you purchase your device with bloatware, so I can avoid this? I purchase directly from Xiaomi factory in China
Great, now if they reduce the wait time to something reasonable I’d be alot happier.
Some devices make you wait for 360 hours, some for 720 and some for 72. It’s weird.
In the instruction is said: “you’ll get Couldn’t unlock try after XX hrs” so the waiting period can’t be now more than 99 hours lol
I used to recommended Xiaomi to all of my friends because all of its greatness. Now, I’m ashamed since it’s just cheap phones full of bloatware
Tried something similar, didn’t work for me. Seems to have worked for some though
I’m fairly sure my note 5 is 360 hours.
Shouldn’t be an issue for you. Crapware is specific to India (sigh).
It has been explored, it has been criticized heavily for recording/tracking the user since Galaxy S3, it has not been removed.
You can debloat with a locked bootloader.
I think it’s new accounts that have a long waiting time. My two year old account had just 72 hours for my RN5.
I bought a Note 5 six weeks ago: 30 days.
My Mi 8 from eBay has a 15 day wait. 12 to go now.
A month is a little ridiculous though. Say I break my phone tomorrow, order a new one and then have to wait a month before it’s in a state I’m happy with.
It’s just a waste of time.
Guess if they see that your account is trustworthy, they don’t give you a waiting time. It’s to prevent online shops from flashing global ROMs into Chinese phones then sell them.
I do not consider any features of MIUI as bloatware, if any manufacturer has bloatware then it has to be Samsung. Eye-movement-tracking-features-so-that-you-can-scroll-your-screen-without-physical-input among many.
My Note 4 required only 72 hours, while my Note 5 and Mi Pad 4 asked for 720 hours. I used the same account.
A Windows VM? (you can download the ISO for free and I don’t think it’s necessary to immediately activate upon installing)
Was not aware of that. My note 5 was a month from memory
Pocophone has 72 hours wait time. I checked it this weekend 😉
Yeah but you risk accidentally disabling something that Miui requires to boot, and the list of things is constantly changing, leaving you with a bricked phone which needs restoring (especially if you have a locked bootloader).
