Hi, I was looking for a new device and was comparing Android update years and security patches. I’ve been looking at various news stories and read that Xiaomi made a change and would offer six years of major Android updates to the Xiaomi 15 series. Is this true? Is there anything more known about this, or am I mistaken? Thanks in advance.
This website has linked the source which is from Xiaomi, and then completely interpreted it incorrectly.
Xiaomi’s support website states that the 15 series “security update EOL” is 6 years later. That does not include major Android OS updates, which was officially pegged at 4 years.
The 15 series will see Android 19 for sure, and then anything after that would be considered lucky. Security patches will continue until 2031.
Has Xiaomi improved camera with updates like problem with recording jitter and exposures in photo?
It’s just that every time I search for information on the subject, I get more confused. I see news like this that says they’re coming to Android 21 and I think that they’ll have 6 years of OS updates.

It’s still 4 years of OS updates, but 6 years of security updates.
Probably what will happen is that after the OS updates are done the security patches will be reduced to every 2-3 months.
