Xiaomi flagship misses many things from other brands, yeah it is cheaper. We can’t actually compare the flasghip of Xiaomi with other brands. There are many things a Xiaomi phone misses compared to flagship from tier one brands. They are reducing certain things to keep the cost low.
I think that you are confused. Huawei started like this, good phones, cheap prices and then their prices start getting higher and higher.
Regarding Xiaomi, it is still cheap. Compare the flagship with others brands and you wont find better price or.better specs for the same price. It is worthy but of course, there’s a catch.

I will not go back to anything MIUI. It’s worse than Touchwiz. I am really loving EvolutionX. It’s close to vanilla but with a lot more customization.

Mine (Note 7) has had adds for some time now, apparently can’t get rid of them. On all of their apps (music, mi fit, etc). Really annoying sneaky little fuckers.

Xiaomi do good quality products and recover their money by monetizing everything. That’s why even their TV have ads between changing channels and all the smartphones have recommendations all the place.

Obviously, this is how they get back money. But they didn’t tell us anything, and worse they harvest our personal data and sell that unless you _dig_ into settings to turn that off.

Xiaomi has very less commercial advertisement comparing to other brands. That itself reduces costs a lot. And they have poor after sale service compared to many other brands. They lack in many things. Quality of the phone is good but not something exceptional. Nowadays their phones are not as cheap as their starting years.
Even if they increase the price a little it’s not problem if the users get an ad free phone. They surely make a lot using advertisement and tracking services, that’s why they keep price low and continue this method than increasing the cost of device which just gives them a one time profit. Ad services makes them money continuosly.

I don’t know how some people support these ad scenario. Fanboyism at a different level. Phone price has nothing to do with ads in mi fit. I paid for mi band and i don’t want ad in my smart band app. There are other brands that offer bands in same price range with no ads atleast till now. Many people are supporting ads in phone saying they have to get profit. They are getting more profit through ads than selling the phone at a slightly higher price. With these kind of people existing every other brands will start implementing ads in phones and all services they offer. Even realme who mocked Xiaomi is starting to show ads on their ui.

Nope, Pi-hole doesn’t work like that. It redirects ad calls to a different IP in the PiHole Pi (something like that). So it’s not blocking ads, it’s just not letting them call home to generate an ad for you as part of page loading, so sites have no idea you’re doing it. The ad unit just thinks it couldn’t make a connection, or it thinks there was no ad for you.
if you go into mi fit settings (profile >settings > advertising settings) you can decline ads. i havent gotten an ad so far.
Uninstalling all the bloatware was the first thing I did 😀

Yep. But hey, at least they are not like Amazon and prevent you from unlocking the bootloader. I purchased a Moto G5 Plus Amazon version and quickly regretted it.

No, you cannot. You can only turn off _personalized ads_ , which is basically personal data harvesting. You’ll still get random ads

I have 9 Xiaomi phones plus the Mi Pad 2 & 4 and have NEVER experienced ads in any apps or anywhere throughout the system.
I’ve used Global versions, Chinese versions and Chinese versions with Global roms all with no ads.
I always highly recommend unlocking the bootloader and installing the Xiaomi.eu rom just due to lack of bloat, a smoother experience and things being more consistent across apps but just out of curiosity,has anyone checked their settings in the Mi fit app to see if advertising settings is on?
Just something to look in to and see if ads are still showing in spite of the setting being off.

I really want the gestures! Plus, the Pie ROMs aren’t really stable yet, as the Note 8 is kinda new and doesn’t really have as much developed support as the 4x or the Note 7. I have a 4x myself lol, and it’s development is amazing. I used it to try out Android 10! It was love at first sight 😉

Well, Xiaomi apps are considered third party so they legally can have ads. You can use other third party apps tho, but Xiaomi doesn’t let you uninstall the stock apps, and now that is indeed ilegal. But they claim the app is a Launcher feature, but still, if you download another launcher the apps remain, and that again, is illegal

try using amazfit, both apps are 1:1 of each other, I jumped ship when my Mi Fit for some reason wouldnt use GPS when doing tracked workout activities (running-cycling).

I wouldn’t matter. Users have been complaining for months about voice detection not working for Google Assistant for months and they still have fixed that. I am sure they are definitely not going to remove ads.
