I hear you and there is a solution that works perfectly with Poco X3, not sure about Mi 11, but you can try.

First, make sure you have 120Hz refresh rate set.

Then, from playstore, download an app called SetEdit.

Launch it, ignore version warning, select System table, if not already selected.

Scroll down until you find “user refresh rate” entry.

    Change from 120 to 90

If you dont have that entry, try with “peak refresh rate” and set to 90

Been rocking 90Hz for a month now, works perfectly, verified @ miui fps counter and third party fps counter.

because xiaomi allocate very little money to refining their codes. technically they can but they don’t want to.

Xiaomi only has 22 000 employees were a company like Apple for example has 147 000. When you see how many model of phones they are producing each year (in average one new model of phone per week) more bugs are expected.

Uh… That doesn’t give them a reason to ship out shitty code. Whether it’s 1 programmer or a hundred, it is impossible to create such a horrible OS! Custom ROMs with just 1 developer literally create bug free ROMs, and you expect me to believe this is why they create something so shitty as MIUI?!?

If they cannot keep up their software with the number of phones they ship, then they shouldn’t be creating so many phones.

Custom ROMs with one programmer and “no bugs” are called forks of ROMs maintained by hundreds (if not thousands) of developers

And I guess Xiaomi is exempt from forking? AOSP *is* open source and maintained by thousands, but that doesn’t mean you remove features from it and create a buggy OS by recreating features from scratch just to implement your own advertising and tracking code, or to comply with the Chinese government, and then force it onto the global users.

According to some of the reviews, it has something that can barely be called adaptive refresh rate.

Its 120Hz most of the time, but drops to 60 when the image is still, for example when viewing photos or watching videos.

You can see for yourself by activating fps meter in settings, additional settings, developer options, power monitor, frame rate monitor tools start OR downloading an app like “Display FPS” and activating real time display fps. The second option is easier and cleaner.

Xiaomi promised to implement better dynamic refresh rate for mi 11, similar to what samsung has, that drops as low as 30 fps.

What’s the benefit of 90 instead of 120. I mean else than some battery life there doesn’t seem any sense.

Most ROMs I’ve used on my Redmi Note 7 are pretty good. A few bugs here and there but nothing too extreme. A quick query on the telegram group specific to your phone model can help you to find a stable, non buggy ROM quickly. Also google pay and banking apps work perfectly if you’re rooted through Magisk hide.

120Hz is too much for the screen on Poco x3, its blurry and it uses too much battery.

    90Hz is sweet spot.

What app will consume more ?? No app is required to run for this to work. You just set the refresh rate and close SetEdit and it stays 90Hz. I use fps meter just to verify it works, I dont run it all the time.

So custom ROMs are good because they fork AOSP, but MIUI is bad cuz they fork AOSP ?

This is just false and depends on how much support your phone has. My current phone (curtana) has a plethora of very stable custom ROMs. Do some research

You don’t see much difference between 90 and 120. 60 to 90 is a huge step up. So 90 is more helpful to battery.

Still I believe 120hz is far better than going for such hassle and battery backup at 120hz is not bad at all, I would prefer that.

    >most custom ROMs are going to have worse bugs

Bad support = more chance for bugs. Thats not an inherent fault custom ROMs have, which is what you’re making it seem like it is. You haven’t used enough custom ROMs on enough phones to even come close to making this claim in the first place.

Who claimed that custom ROMs those don’t reimplement most of the system from scratch were any good? AOSP is generally a huge pile of bugs that is easier to drop than to fix. “maintainers” cherrypicking ancient unmaintained hacks doesn’t help with the stability of AOSP ROMs either.

Because those that have one developer don’t have the resources to reimplement most of the system from scratch, and generally seem to run better than miui.

Accu battery is showing me 11h 48m.

    Miui says 12h 31m.

But this depends on how you use it and which miui version u are using.

For example, Im on miui 12.0.8. android 11 update, and as much as I dont like the update, it did improve my battery life, after I have cleared cache from battery and optimization app, and discharged my phone until it shut off.

I also watch YT videos in 720p.

Never in my life have I seen any such ROM that wasn’t worse than properly reimplemented ones. But well, depends on what we call bugless, and what counts as running “better”. Are they more smooth than ANY stock ROM? Definitely. Are they more stable than stock ROMs? Depends. MIUI definitely has its share of problems, though it varies by device, MTK based ones having WAY more problems, while QC based ones still having more bugs than some other phones with the same chips, but there are some models on which MIUI is relatively decent. As an example, we have 5 Redmi Note 4s in the family, and none had any serious problems. They are stuck on Android 7.0 though. On the other hand, Redmi 5 Plus, that uses the same SoC is a pain to use on MIUI.

Custom ROMs? RN4 is already on 11, and is stable, while R5 Plus is a laggy mess with shittons of bugs even on the 10 ROMs.

I’ve been using custom roms for more than 6 years now, so stop attacking me and start thinking about what you are saying.

Most custom roms have worse bugs than the official rom, because there is a company behind one and a couple of people behind the other. “Bad support” is simply less people, and yes it introduces more bugs. Not having a company behind them is a fact of custom roms, it is not a fault or anything, it is a fact.

WAIT A SECOND. You can’t change your refresh rate to other than 60 & 120? That’s just silly, Xiaomi.

Im pretty sure the hardware can do it. I’m using the 10T Pro and I can switch to 60/90/144 in the display menu, and this is a lower end phone than the Mi 11.

I swear Xiaomi is so weird sometimes.

There isn’t even that much battery difference. That’s why. You might get an extra 15-20 minutes by being on 90 rather than 120. If you want to save battery, use 60. Otherwise it’s not worth it just for the extra 20 minutes of battery.

120 hz pretty display, high battery usage

60 Hz bad display, low battery usage

90 hz = balance. For anyone want better FPS compare to regular phones, but do not want to sacrifice battery life

The 60Hz ball isnt moving at 60Hz, its probably closer to 30Hz.

The 120Hz ball is moving at 60.

The balls are just an oversimplified animation, they dont truly represent those numbers.

Yes there is! It used to only display display Hz but it updated and it now shows even real time FPS of everything. They made it awesome!

Yes there is, but its not clean, it gives way too much information and takes much space on the screen, at least it does on miui android 11.

MIUI 12.5 and above should have the option of setting the refresh rate to 90hz. Are you using 12.5?

The only game I play (Brawl Stars) supports 120Hz refresh rate and it feels absolutely amazing and smooth and phone is strong enough to get to 120 fps.

90Hz also feels smooth, just as you would expect for a sweet spot between 60 and 120. I would say the jump from 60 to 90 is more noticable than from 90 to 120.

As for apps, reddit supports it, browsers also, messengers and even youtube while scrolling, but drops to 60 when when watching vids. So basically almost everything I use supports higher refresh rate.

Well its not like I got this phone solely because of it refresh rate. It was just a nice bonus to an already nice package. Its getting harder and harder to find a low refresh rate solid device.

Even if its just scrolling trough miui looking at gallery, or reading something, the higher refresh rate is worth it, but thankfully more and more apps are supporting it.

SetEdit just edits some values, its not needed after that, so you can safely remove it.

You can go to display settings and see it still says 90Hz.

I think after updating the phone the value resets, though Im not sure.

I don’t. That’s what I knew about 12.5, I expected it to have it as that’s also what most users would want in terms of high refresh rate and simultaneously have good battery life. Too bad.

    No root required.

Its safe, unless you go poking around the editor and changing other values.

You can delete the editor and the value will remain the same.
