Same exact behavior happens in Os X on application launcher, it’s the most frustrating bug I ever found.
That’s kinda cool and looks more like an easteregg than a bug.

Lately I was baffled for things like this and install Nova Launcher (the ladies version I bought for 1 dollar back in the day) in my Redmi 5 Plus and boy, I really like MIUI but when compared it lacks a couple of things
Works fine for me
I use the a folder as app drawer 😂😂
The animation is so satisfying I randomly move apps in n’ out all the time
