I think it’s something to do with metering. I sometimes see that it tries to try and focus a bit more when close up with either of the telephoto lenses when it appears and you select it. It disables dynamic photos too.
Maybe it activates 200 MP?
Swipe down, in camera settings in photo section
No, not that either, 200mp photos are way bigger that this (40 mb instead of 9 mb in the mystery icon mode)
Aah thank you! Is this the first time opening the camera explanation or something else?

I think that is Extended depth of field that can be found inside Ai recomendations
I think on the first use of the camera app, it does but I don’t know how to make that repeat again.
Now I’m intrigued. My test makes the photo with this icon activated look a bit darker and slightly bigger in storage size when compared to deactivating the icon, but every single stat (iso, shutter speed, resolution, etc) is the same between both shots.

The yellow icon with dots inside a circle at the bottom left of the Xiaomi 15 Ultra camera screen indicates that the telephoto camera (tele lens) – specifically the macro telephoto lens – is active. This is used for highly detailed close-up shots.

What it does:
It activates automatically when you get very close to a subject and the camera determines it should use the macro-capable telephoto lens.
It combines high magnification and close focus with great detail.
—
Can you activate it manually?
Not directly through that icon – it’s just an indicator. If you want to use it manually:
1. Go to Pro Mode.
2. Select the lens with the corresponding focal length (usually 3.2x or 5x, depending on your model).
3. Manually adjust the focus to get close to the subject.
4. If you see that same icon (or a similar one) appear, it means the telephoto macro lens is in use.
—
Difference from Super Macro:
Super Macro mode uses the ultrawide lens for close-ups, while the icon you’re seeing indicates the use of the telephoto macro lens, which offers much higher detail.

Welcome
Not right, you can control it manually and I don’t think it has anything to do with macro
On my 15 Ultra that icon activated dynamic photo when i tried it.
Ximi CN posted for camera 6.0 for users to know how to use it
Not sure, but I don’t get that icon at all. And I have all ai settings turned off, so must be something to do with ai.
Thank you!
The icon activates dynamic photo.

To my phone it’s not the same, dynamic photos is on top, and when I press the icon on the bottom left, dynamic photos is disabled. Could it be some kind of better quality photo mode, more detailed? It did produce a larger file.
Yes, that’s another name for it. It allows you to shoot software macro with its supertele sensor, it is not preferred for professionals but it is preferred for social media. It can work on all lenses because it expands the aperture virtually, because it is needed
Something to do with dynamic range. All the information in the comments is wrong.
They call it depth of field fusion
I’ve never used an iPhone so I don’t know what that is
A mini video from where it chooses a frame
Isn’t that the square icon after you go past 20x zoom? This is a different one I think
Oh got it! URAW!
It’s not the dynamic range but photos like live action on iOS
Damn, I wish there was some official info like a camera manual.
What’s that?
Basically live photo on iphone
Where is this menu from? I cannot find it, thanks.
Thank you for the detailed answer!
It’s “depth of field fusion”

I’d like to explain what the icon with small dots in the bottom left corner of the camera interface means.
This feature automatically increases the focus range — in other words, it expands the depth of field so that more objects at different distances remain in focus. Unfortunately, it cannot be controlled manually; it only activates automatically when the camera detects a complex scene.
For example, a cylindrical object like a roll of toilet paper often triggers this function. That’s how I was able to identify and test it. It works with any lens.
In the photo below, you can see the icon is active in the bottom left corner — meaning the camera is expanding the focus area. When the function is active, background elements (like a small blue packet) remain sharp; without it, they fall into blur (bokeh). This is especially noticeable in high-contrast scenes with depth.
On professional cameras, a similar effect is achieved through **focus stacking**, where multiple shots with different focus points are taken and combined into one image. In this case, I believe AI is used to simulate this effect in real time.
It’s also worth noting that when this feature activates, the screen may display multiple **focus point indicators** — small boxes — showing which areas are being calculated for extended focus

Oh wow thanks for downvoting me very helpful explanation
I don’t think it’s that, the dynamic photo icon is on top of the gui and when I press it, the one on the left deactivates.
I think is AI assistance when taking a picture
