Probably to prevent opening the front camera when inside a pocket.
Most phoned have it as a feature, but it’s needed for devices like mi 9t
Might be for face unlock…
I second this
Auto brightness and pocket mode are the reason
Sadly we haven’t achieved absolute zero yet, but we’re getting there.
But not this one IR diode. You need an IR camera to do that. This, on the phone is just like a normal LED
Underrated comment
nope, on mi9t face unlock is only camera
Do all phone have inferred blaster?
No it does not. Cover that light during a call and the screen goes dark…put an object 5cm from the phone while the phone is on the table and the screen will go dark
Chinese intel scanning your iris bro.
The light sensor does not emit IR, it is passive.
This is a IR illuminator for face unlock or proximity.
Xray has a higher frequency than UV so its higher
I mean in terms of wavelength. Even if you were blasted with IR, you would get hot but you can’t get cancer or other illnesses, even with a constant, ultra-powerful blast
Same, I’ve never seen it.
Mi 9t pro doesn’t have IR Blaster, does it?
I understand pocket mode, but how does the ir light help adjuat auto brightness ?
No, I’m talking about the ir dot on your face so you can unlock your phone in low light. I’m not talking about the camera.
Aliens Bro, What else could it be?
Not all the time though. I wouldn’t be sticking my head into a microwave that’s switched on.
China is trying to id you
Its trying to find a spy satellite because you uninstalled the MSA analytics system app.
Ya you’re right
Goddamit, did you develop his app? He even wrote on his head “do not develop my app”
It maybe for you. But for me it’s not. Notches and lcd displays are deal breakers for me
I’ve never said it does. Just pointed out general fact. X-ray is under UV. Is not safe though
I doesn’t scale linearly. Once you get past visible light you get harmful ionizing radiation. Everything under UV is safe though.
And face unlock
I mean you can cook things with visible light if there’s enough of it.
I think it’s approximating proximity.
Can you uninstall that app without bricking the device? So far, I think I’ve stopped it.
I had an old samsung and it always did this while using it. I’ve also seen some iPhones that do this
I’d bet on IR Time Of Flight not ultrasonic, which would match with the light seen.
I think it has it
Same model and even the same background!
damn that would be cool
I just mentioned it because IR can be used to help face unlock, not just to control your TV.
Scanning your face and body building a clone of you. By now youve been replaced. Your memories implanted into the clone version of you. The real you is no longer. This was the dividing line. Remember it. Things will taste different, people will seem different but its all in you head. Everything is in your head.
Face id
Quite normal, human’s eyes can’t see IR lights. But camera’s eyes can ! And in the screen it’s convert into white light… Test it with your tv remote and your cellphone camera, it’s amazing 😉
What model is that? Looks good
Also because of it’s proximity sensor: it doesn’t really exist.
What it has is an ultrasonic sensor and guessing user’s actions based on data from the gyroscope.
It doesn’t? That’s a deal breaker for me.
That is probably a part of proximity sensing equipment.
Edit: grammar.
I second this. Firstly: IR has longer wavelength than visible light. And second, UV and X-Ray both have shorter wavelength than visible light. Both can be very harmful though. Longer wavelength is not known to cause harm though
Close! Not device but something disguised as a device. Owner must be alerted all the time as it can transform into…

Ir doesn’t, that’s the proximity sensor
My k20 pro doesn’t have any such constant light (i checked using camera on another phone)
This is so the phone can detect if it’s in a pocket
Mi9t pro
Wavelength doesn’t mean energy. You can cook things with IR blasted at enough power.
That LED has much less power than the screen below it, though, agreed.
Thanks man, chears
Same design, but the Mi9 T Pro has a better processor, 4K 60fps video, gorilla glass 5, a super AMOLED screen, and supports fast charging at 27W.
Quite the difference if you ask me.
Yes. I did debloat it with that Xiaomidebloater tools.
IR has less a lower wavelength than visible light lol. You’re getting more “blasted” by the light from your phone screen.
Sorry, English ain’t my mother tongue, I thought you meant that UV has shorter wavelength than X-ray, my bad
My bet is on proximity sensor.
It’s just light man, nothing to worry. Otherwise your phone will wake up when the buttons are pressed and that happens accidentally in your pocket. Also, every phone does this.
I think this is the exact reason why it’s blasting so much. The potential danger of it opening whilst in a pocket etc. As to all the people saying you cannot see it etc, it will be invisible to naked eye but use another phone camera and you will most likely seen the IR. IR can be dangerous to the eye at high power as it does not activate blink reflex, but at these most likely very low powers I’m sure you will be safe. I do not think other phones use the IR proximity sensor quite to this level (as much) whilst not in a call?
Sorry you’re right. I’m a chemist, not a physicist.
what youre seing there is the proximity sensor, normal ir light is used for controoling tv etc
Indeed.
Not true whatsoever. IR has longer waves than visible light. UV and X-Ray have shorter wavelength and both can be harmful. The shorter the wavelength – the more harm. The longer – the less
IR is just light. You don’t get cancer or anything like that from a little light.
Regular mi 9t doesn’t have the snapdragon 855 and laser AF though
i checked mine, sensor only works when you open the screen, when the screen is off, sensor does not work.
It’s not I.R! It’s a proximity sensor!
That’s the ultrasonic detector. It… Detects.
that looks like the proximity sensor. probable some kind of pocket detection something like that is turned on.
IT can’t bother you though you don’t See ist wirhout the camera
Well if your screen is turned off it also don’t need to check if it’s in a pocket.
I’m guessing is checking for your face so if you’re reading something for a long time it won’t dim your screen when you’re still reading
What’s that hahaha
Chinese are aliens
Is MIUI still having problems with the notifications?
Wait isn’t that phone the mix 3 or mi 9t , those don’t have it face unlock
Infrared is quite litterally less powerful than visible light, you have no reason to worry about it
They do. They can use the front camera, but it’s not safe, because it does not scan the depth of the face like to iPhone 11 for example. You could hold a picture of you in front of the phone and it would unlock. Also the 9t pop up cam shouldnt be used for face unlock
I know all phones have proximity senzor but they work only when you make a call
That is not the ir blaster it sits on top of the phone the light we see is from the top bezel of the screen wich is the ambient light sensor.
