i was wondering what happens if i replace my POCO F1 Screen with the Screen of an Mi8 (Standard Version).
They’re identical and the Connection pins are very similar (except from Mi8 Explorer or Other Versions because they have a Fingerprint sensor on the screen).
The size is identical, the holes for the camera and other sensors, everything.
Its possible to make an super upgraded POCO F1 with amoled screen?

> **UPDATE:**
> Can someone pls make an screen firmware port from MI8 For POCO F1 with screen voltage and modulation fixes? Call someone on XDA pls. we’re going to make a POMI F18 😀
> **UPDATE 2:**
> u/advancedgamer9898 gave me an idea: Let’s put an asus battery with 5000mAh on our project. the connection pins are similar too. this will be a “Frankenstein Pocophone”
> **UPDATE 3:**
> u/D1stRU3T0R offered help to make the custom kernel! geez, this will become reality :O
> Could someone test it for me when the kernel be developed? Now i’m REALLY afraid of bricking or exploding my phone (or destroying both screens). And… if you volunteer for testing it, you’ll be the first person on the world to have a POMI 😀
**Current Project Name: Xiaomi MocoPhone F8**
There will be a firmware issue
will be interesting.. try it
If it would be possible I see a lot of poco users switching their screen after this
If i was you and have required hardware, ill definitely try this.
Firmware is completely software based…
So, if the firmware or ROM get corrupted, just flash it with stock one.
I can guarantee that, at hardware level, it’s completely safe to swap the screen with AMOLED one.
You are a genius
Let us know if it works
Wow, it would be awesome! Anxious to see if this works
Both phones have same firmwares, so it may only get minor hiccups like you said + brightness (modulation) problems.
Only thing that i worry is that… Does poco’s LCD drivers overpowers Mi 8’s AMOLED screen, because AMOLED is soo damn light in power requirments…
If you are doing this, lower the brightness to as low as possible with “Night mode” in display settings, before opening the phone…
What a genius idea. If it works it’ll fix one of the Poco’s biggest upsets (for me at least). Probably gonna have some software issues, but hope I’m wrong
Please update me on this
RemindMe! 1 day
Can you just use your mine think about it, bro.
Both phone screen size must not be the same.
Yeah, in AMOLED screen, each pixel are controlled by a number of “arrays”.
It only take a brainiac from XDA to port display firmwares of Mi8 to POCO F1…
yep, i have hope :))
In AMOLED, you know that the pixels are responsible for brightness…
So overpowering will burn the F out of LED…
Not a good thing.. 🙁
Yes firmware port which has correct voltage & modulation (slow modulation look like flicking brightness)
😀
Can you update this thread once you have done it please?
Voltages and pinouts could be different, there’s no way of knowing without datasheets (and good luck getting those).
Worst case scenario is probably the OLED screen burns out from too high a voltage.
If i remember, there was a ported firmware. I guess it was just Moderm from Mi 8
Pls keep us updated
both type of screen runs on different volt I guess, so you can’t
Pls keep us updated
Keep me updated!
Do it.
I’d do it the other way around, I like LCD more I think. AMOLED makes my eyes and head ache a little more.
WTF
yes because xiaomi has the best quality for the price
If you’ll finish this project, you’re a legend Harry.
OP, please update me on this. I had that in mind as well for a long time, but I thought it’s impossible. Provide me with pictures, if you are really going to do it!
Thank you! You have no idea how long I had this idea in my mind😉🙂 Unfortunately, I’m not a developer so I cannot help you, but I’m sure someone will!
PS: Good luck!
del5eted.
del5eted.
Sauce ?
First of all…. I want to see if this works. And if it does I want to publish an article on this. Furthermore. Now I have a Xiaomi redmi 8 pro. If I could get an AMOLED screen on it. It would be awesome.
I like everything about this (except for the project name XD)
Any news?
Why not call it Poco F1 Pro? That name really bothers me lmao
Upvoted for visibility. Really looking forward to updates! GL with your exams 😀
Dew It
Why can you only use 4000mah? The kernel only uses voltages as reference, so the percentage will stay the same each percent will just last longer
You’re missing the point. The phone doesn’t see “mAh” it sees voltage. The voltages don’t change
First of all, we have to see how the poco handles the Mi8 panel without anything.
Small chance it will work.
Smaller chance it won’t have any issues.
But we gotta try it.
Any progress dude? I’m dying to know. Very exited about this project.
Just be careful about this, as you would need firmware that pushes a lower Vf to the OLED, as OLEDs tend to draw higher currents at low voltages rather than the opposite, and the usual DC voltages used in LCDs would kill it very quickly.
Found it

I would love to see that! If it was possible without many issues and all it needed was a custom Kernel, I might consider it myself!
Buy a Mi 8 and then swap displays lol
Thats a damn good idea xD the chin on the poco is bigger though
Mi 8 firmware boots on Poco without any modification
Cool idea, I hope you make it happen!
I love the name XD
How do you know the pinout is exactly the same? I wouldn’t try without proof, risking at least to burn the screen
Kernel doesn’t see mAh, but the ICs which manage battery power do (not directly, but in many ways).
Of the IC thinks the battery is 4000mAh, doesn’t matter if it actually is 5000, at 1000 it will think to be at 0.
The phone will still be alive, but
1) the battery percentage indicator would be broken
2) most phones shut the phone down at 0%, no matter if the battery can last other 20 seconds or one hour. This may be tricked someway
OP please open an XDA thread!!!
>but the ICs which manage battery power do
These are usually on the actual battery itself – again, the phone just uses voltage for its percentage
>1) the battery percentage indicator would be broken
Yes, until you do a full discharge and recharge cycle
>most phones shut the phone down at 0%, no matter if the battery can last other 20 seconds or one hour. This may be tricked someway
In these case it will sit on 1% for a long time, then hit 0% (which will be like 3.4v or whatever the phone has as it’s hard cutoff voltage. If you do a full recharge after this, the phone will be “calibrated” and fine to use.
After this it will 100% be fine to use
I’ve done a lot of extended battery mods on phones (Galaxy Note 3 with Zerolemon battery, nexus4 with LG G2 battery etc)
A multimeter should be able to test pin-out
Upvoted for that Project Name. Keen to hear how this turns out!
Hate to be a downer but this is gonna take a lot of time, work and money and with a chance of it never working. Honestly if you want amoled so bad just go get a mi9tpro/k20pro they are cheap as nowadays and do everything a poco does way better and then some, no ugly notch either.
Make this happen pls. If they won’t release F2 soon, at least I’m looking forward to this haha
I need updates too 😀 good luck!
If this works, I’m literally buying a Poco F1 for trying it out myself 😍
He is fine to do damage to the AMOLED screen…
Just want to save POCO F1’s motherboard.
Yeah, pin layout MAY be different, need to test with multimeter.
This is interesting. Please don’t forget to update us
Battery capacity calibration & adjusting charging parameters (Fast charge) are pain in tha arse.
>Let’s put an asus battery with 5000mAh on our project. the connection pins are similar too. this will be a “Frankenstein Pocophone”
Very cool. I am interested in creating a phone with:
* Front speakers
* headphone jack, USB-C port
* 5000mAh battery
* Wireless charging (fairly easy to add)
* microSD (not really necessary, but it’s good for adding 200GB storage. Technically possible to add with usb OTG)
* waterproof/underwater the whole thing (probably too difficult at this point)
Basically a nice, thick 5000mah phone, with front speakers. Most phones are missing at least 1-2 of these features. I like my current G6, but I’m missing front speakers. I looked at Xiaomi 9T, it has most things except front speakers also.
Any ideas about mixing speakers from different phones? Any specs on the speaker modules? What’s the pinout? I’m guessing it just takes the analog signal, and DC power for the amplification?
Ok now this is interesting
I’m not a Xiaomi user nor Pocophone user obviously, but I’m really hyped about this. I don’t know if there’s more projects like this but this is the first one I see, it’s nice to see how some developers have interested on this, nice one Xiaomi Community!
that is an interesting project,,plz go ahead we are excited 😁😁😁
I think this is more a technical hobby project. So just buying another phone isn’t fun.
Furthermore, I don’t think it’s gonna work lol
Would that indicate that the pins are actually compatible? Or this only means that is possible on the software side
Nice. So the battery mod looks to be possible.
There is already a developer here that reported the touch driver from Mi8 to work on the Poco
Now just to be extra sure, in the OP it says the pins are similar. But are they 100% the same? Otherwise it won’t fit and the whole project goes down the drain.
Furthermore, I see that the touch drivers of the Mi8 have been confirmed to work on the Poco so that’s already a win.
There is a slight discussion whether the bigger battery could be read by the device. I am pretty sure the device indeed only reads voltages and such, not stopping after a certain amount of Mah. I’ve had bigger batteries installed in the past, just works.
Best thing: there is a dev that agreed on supporting this project by looking into the kernel. His requirement is that there is a Poco with a Mi8 display to work with.
Worst thing: OP just dropped the idea but doesn’t want to test it on his own phone. So basically we’re all looking at a great possibility but no way to test it.
Edit: no rant to the OP, still a great idea 🙂
Requirements are:
– a working Pocophone
– a Mi8 display
– (optional) the 5000mah battery
I like tech so much that I am willing to invest in this just to see it work. I also have ties with Xiaomi, so I hope to one day walk into their office with this MocoPhone8 (we’ll think about the name, a poll or something :p). They will take it to HQ Hong Kong to show.
Anyway, first thing I want to know: can anyone confirm the connectors are the same. As in, they really fit. Display and connector.
Very true. But only one way to find out 🙂
Are you sure the connector is same? I checked it once already and as far as i remember mi 8 display had extra 8 pins. Even if the pin count is same, the pinout doesn’t have to be same so you’d have to build a flex cable adapter.
The biggest problem i see is figuring out which pin goes where.
wouldnt disruptor have to set a maximum brightness in order to make the power requirments not to high? since the peakpower needed by high brightness amoled displays is way higher then lcd displays?
Yes, this is also my primary question. If it is the same and we all think it can be done, I’ll invest in the hardware. Wanna see this happen 😀
Yes no problem I understand that. Same for me lol
that’d be a perfect phone, poco internal with mi 8 screen, touch latency byebye
Good idea, but for myself personally, my main requested feature is front speakers.
Personally my favorite chassis is the LG G3 chassis because of the large width and screen area… All subsequent LG phones were more narrow.
No idea. Honestly, you’ve got me excited about the prospects. I never imagined a thread about modifying a phone would gain so much support, haha.
Here’s a pic of my ideal phones, XS Max included for comparison. [https://i.imgur.com/QrIKH3B.png](https://i.imgur.com/QrIKH3B.png) No idea why such a phone hasn’t been made yet. Again, basically a big ass 5000mAh phone with front speakers (+ all the other standard features, likewireless charging, microSD, headphone jack). I guess XZ2 Premium is pretty close. But I really prefer the Nexus 4/LG G3 curve.
That, and a heavy duty PS-Vita style attachment. [https://i.imgur.com/X9oKMBS.png](https://i.imgur.com/X9oKMBS.png)
Nubia Red Magic 3 also has some very nice front speakers. [https://images.anandtech.com/doci/14717/DSC\_0913\_575px.jpg](https://images.anandtech.com/doci/14717/DSC_0913_575px.jpg)
He needs a modified firmware for the screen to work without issues.
You’re sensitive to PWM then
What’s PWM?
Pulse Width Modulation, basically flickering the screen at high frequency to control brightness
Hoping someone will be volunteer.
Hey all, i just found a website which has phone diagrams & schematics for download…
The problem is the whole site is in RUSSIAN language & need to sign up with an email for download to work…
And this site don’t have the files for Poco F1 (as of time of writing).
Mi 8: https://devicedb.xyz/device/625-smartfon-xiaomi-mi-8-mi8.html
Additionally, they have a telegram chat client at the bottom of webpage…
Any update?
Aside from tearing apart the phone, a genuine mi 8 amoled display isn’t cheap !
If it wasn’t that expensive I would have been a volunteer…
Basicallz the brighter the display, the higher the frequency, and lower the brightness, the lower frequency. That’s what makes it unhealthy – the flickering that is invisible but hurtful.
Oh, ok. Thanks! So it’s technically better to keep the brightness constant?
Yes, but I only realized after getting amoled screen. I might be getting iPhone Se2/9 when it comes out though.
Any updates on this?
Any updates on this?
Ah what’s the problem?
I would but I am broke asf. Anyone want to ship a screen to me?
Hey did you made it??
I’m really interested to know, cause then I’ll also upgrade my device with it and get an amoled display with bigger battery!
Also have a look at this amoled screen module for poco F1!
https://www.flipkart.com/mpix-super-amoled-mobile-display-xiaomi-poco-f1-256gb/p/itmfgufhbpdtrjzv
Do you think that’s legit?
did you find a volunteer?
I would definitely participate!
Idk, why does it say it isn’t available?
Any update?
You could try lawrun kernel because it is compatible with mi8, poco f1 and mimix2s, so maybe there are screen drivers for all of them
Any thing come off this?
Please send update 🙏
Lol any updates?
Any updates?
HI, sorry to revamp this old post. Do you by change know who made the mod? I’d like to verify with them that the Battery conector is indeed the same before spending money on it
It is not the same connector. The bms board had to be transplanted iirc
I think it’s too late but.
Any updates ?
I’m willing to volunteer for this. I have poco f1. DM me If anyone wants to test it out.
