Hell yeah 😂
Wait, wireless charging is a thing? How does it work?
I’m always VERY surprised when a shop doesn’t have NFC payments here in England. 90% of all stores have it at least.
Sigh.
I have a charging pad in my winter jacket and it can charge my phone as long as I drop it in my inner pocket in the right way.
Just because it takes a bit of effort to use something effectively doesn’t mean it’s useless.
I’m looking for a stylish smartwatch that can charge wirelessly as well. And I’d like B&O to update their in ear monitors to charge similarly as well. And I wouldn’t mind a powerbank that can charge like that although that’s less important.
Go to sleep, drop shit on my nightstand, leave it be.
Now if wireless charging weren’t a thing I’d probably need to connect my powerbank, phone, IEMs and smartwatch to seperate cables or docks every time.
In a few years we’ll probably add laptops and AR glasses to that list. After that It’s not too far out of reach to expect a (granted, high end) desk to be able to charge or actually *power*whatever is put on it automatically.
Think desk lights, displays, wireless keyboards and mice…
Just for one device? Eh, you’re right. It doesnt add much.
The heat is real but isnt an issue unless you want to charge fast. That really is the only reason for me to plug in these days.
That’s cool. Still, this Pocophone seems really good, even without wireless charging.
Everything involves energy loss, entropy is one of the constants of the universe
It is a new subreddit and it takes time for people to start becoming aware about it and start posting there. It is the classic chicken and egg problem. No one posts because no one else is there. It should change in some time. You can also take that initiative. 🙂
If I hear POCO one more time…
LMAO I agree, “I’m searching for a new phone, can you please help, my budget is \_\_\_\_”
Reply within 30 seconds: POCOPHONE!!!
“wireless”
You just have them against/very close to a charging pad.
I had a very thin wireless charging pad put in my skiing jacket. I connect the pad to a powerbank and the phone charges as long as it’s in my inner left pocket and I have my powerbank turned on.
It isn’t perfect but it does work.
And with time I hope I can get headphones and a smartwatch that charge that way too. With a thin pad in, say, my nightstand and desk?
There is decryption DRM on some video formats, which of course are not free. In order to cut prices, they didn’t fully support a popular format used by netflix (and others) : Widevine, thus they can’t display HD videos on netflix.
Hence, US life.
KISS MY POCO
180 million people use(d) NFC for mobile payment in 2018. That’s 2% of world population. I’m sure it will matter more in couple of years, but here in eastern europe they’re just now enrolling NFC in credit cards and stores. And randomly , my guess it’s around 5% of food stores.
It seems that you’re the only one posting there
And what about no HD videos on netflix, amazon etc.. ?
I like Xiaomi and I plan to buy one in a couple of month, but it does have drawbacks like everything else. And the hype on the phocophone is crazy, I don’t really like this phone, I understand why it is very interesting but not why so much people are considering it as the best one ever.
Speaker turning randomly? What the hell?
Does that include using the phone to stream to a tv through chromecast/apple tv etc?
The pocophone isn’t THAT great a deal anymore because it’s “late”. The first gen sd845 phones dropped in price and can probably be found for a little more.
The mi8, mix2s, asus zenfone 5z and LG g7 thinq are close in price.
Now if poco get a sd845 successor out as soon as they can that would make the phone 30-40% cheaper vs 15-20% cheaper.
You mean “Can’t play HD on Netflix” , don’t you?
But they act the same way that iSheep do. If someone says that another phone is better, they start talking shit and start getting ridiculously mad.
I use my phone a lot while on the go. I had to have my last phone’s charging port repaired after I accidentally pulled the cable out one too many times.
Charging went from full in 90 minutes to needing 7+ hours.
It has to be close but it doesn’t have to touch it anymore. It can charge through a case after all.
Yes and I also prefer OLED screen : greater luminosity range, good contrast, better energy consumption..
It’s an everyday comfort and a drawback for the Pocophone
I traded a OnePlus 6 for an Oppo Find X…..
>Like I would start carrying a wallet with a card again.
Like everyone does?
POCO F2 freaking when???
Was very happy with the A2, loved Android One.
Only sent it back because the Screen on Time was a little bit too low for me.
Great phone if battery life isn’t an issue for you.
Why not both?
“Pocophone”
“Anything else?”
“Check out the Poco F1”
Well they could have launched it when bugs like that were fixed…
I didn’t notice it was that common, that’s annoying.
Yes it is a great phone and I understand why it is popular, but some people are considering it as the ultimate phone that everyone should buy, but everyone has its needs ans preferences.
Fight them brother!!😂😂
The thing is that the pocophone isn’t faster than the others. Just cheaper. There are phones that do everything poco does and then some but they’re far more expensive now.
I really want to switch to oled. The difference between my last phone and one with identical specs but oled instead of lcd made an enormous difference in use.
OP5 vs XZP 5.5″ oled vs lcd and 3300mah vs 3230mah.
I used both with the same apps installed. Video playback at 1080p because the xzp has a 4k display. Browsing using a black theme.
Drained the battery in +- 9 hours on the XZP playing vids and 17! Using the OP5. Browsing had me at 9 and 13.5 hours respectively.
That’s an enormous difference.
Display off the Sony had the advantage though.
Oh it is.
Though I also don’t get the praise it gets for not using glass. The people that dislike a glass phone never held the xperia xz premium. It’s by far the most premium feeling phone I’ve ever had and even though I dropped it at least 100x it never broke.
The glass is weirdly resistant to cracking.
I can’t be sure but I think the pocophone also cut corners (though not much) on the camera vs other flagships. Although it *does* come with a slightly larger battery and headphone jack.
But the larger battery wouldn’t make up the difference oled vs lcd makes in my case. But I’ve optimized my phone for oled years ago and use the same theme/launcher/settings to this day. So it does take some effort.
Tl;dr
Do your research. Everybody is different.
Thx, take one few days ago^^
I bought MI A2 couple of days ago.
Come at me
/s?
If you have to ask you’re not worthy!
(Im actually waiting for the xperia xz3 premium. I expect it’ll have a 85%+ screen to body ratio and may be 6.3″+ oled. I have a lot of xiaomi products and recommend them to everyone but every single flagship is missing *something* for me.
The pocophone misses nfc and wireless charging. And the SoC isnt an upgrade for me.
The mi8 was an option but it was hard to get for a decent price at the time.
Mix 2s, battery vs screen size…)
I bought one month ago a Redmi Note 5 , it has great battery life, 9 hours SOT but i don´t like MIUI very much, gonna try pixel experience in it this weekend and hopefully will be the perfect “Mi A2”
S2 is better for daily use.
That just fragments discussion into multiple subs though.
LMAO
India is the primary market for POCO F1. There’s a very less percentage of people who make use of NFC here, so I see it very reasonable that they’d want to skip on NFC to cut costs. Also there’s a system called UPI(Unified Payment Interface) in India, through which we can make cashless transactions directly linked to the bank account.
Where do you carry your ID, Driver license, etc?
so what you mean to say is that poco = buy now?
I don’t think there’s a cheaper phone that can compete against this one. I don’t care about the camera, only gaming and other basic functions which it’s all good at. Battery and headphone jack are good and i’d rather have this than the Mi A2. Really solid imo. Thanks for your opinion.
I went for the magnetic adapters for the cable ripping prevention. It also keeps dust away from the port
That was kind of my point. Although I’d argue minimum wage/median wage is more important than average wage in this case.
I thought as much. 720p is a bit of a letdown but if it can stream to other devices at 1080p/2160p it’s not as much as much of an issue.
It’s a MUCH bigger issue had that been a thing on their tablets imo.
I mean, I’ve got 4k on my phone @ 5.5″ and can tell the difference between running 1080p and 2160p on it.
Is there a way to circumvent this with custom roms btw?
It has 1/1000sec shutter speed which you can turn on in manual mode, so it can take photos of fast moving stuff. But there is no mode that does it, you have to set it manualy
You say that as if we should care.. A good qi charger with a high end device should waste no more than 30% though.
That’s what she said.
Where should I buy the Pocophone? I’m from the Netherlands
NO U.
Idk, but I have not once in my entire life used nfc.
I have the Mi8 but I don’t know hot to use it for NFC payment. Google Pay says it’s not meeting all security requirements to use it. I’m on Global Rom btw. If there is a fix, I’d be glad to know.
> I understand why it is very interesting but not why so much people are considering it as the best one ever.
If the price matters and you want to buy something in the midrange price then there’s no point buying things like RN5P.
It is kinda bad at battery department. Only 3 hours at 50%. So i can expect 6 hours.
Coming from RN4X and it’s a huge impact. I don’t mind though, my eyes are going bad from staring at computer screen whole day, so using phone less is healthier.
I don’t know, because with Chromecast and netflix you can cast a link and then the phone isn’t directly casting so maybe not, but still..
This. And also the design, which is better on those phone than on the pocophone.
It’s just for me but I don’t need the most powerful phone on the world, but the screen and design quality are things you see all the time, while top performances are a bit more anecdotic imo
But does it have to be really close? Why not simply use a usb Charger?
That’s true. But you’re still stuck with cables that way.
Edit: Downvoted for this? I did explain before that plugging in one device isn’t an issue. But having 3 or more all charging with a cable just gets annoying.
Hell, I fully expect to charge 5 devices wirelessly within a year.
And this is why this (and this phone) exists
https://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/country_price_rankings?itemId=105
Isn’t that just a fact of wireless internet experience in the US?😂
480p.. Yeah ok. That’s just bad.
USB charger only has so many connections in it and it can take damage. Inductive charging, outside of the battery getting worse from just aging (which happens with USB too!), saves the port from wear, and it’s much easier to use–just drop the phone on the inductive charger.
Well with the hw encryption DRM, it’s kinda hard. As a person who decided that his main phone is always going to be a midrangers (because I’m clumsy and careless as fuck) I’m not gonna get any phone with HD content from streaming services…
As far as why it’s so popular…well it’s a great value proposition for people who want a workhorse phone and don’t care for stuff like glass back, etc . It essentially murders anything not “3 years old flagship” in the 200-400 phone market. I want one purely because it’s a Redmi Note 5 on steroids.
I’m also buying a Pocophone to tease S9 users bwahahaha 🤣
Gimmicky features are really gimmicky.
/r/Xiaomemes
All of my smartphones had NFC since 2014, but I used it like 4 times to pair the phone with audio equipement. Not everyone needs it.
30% of two amphours every two days, just turn off the lights when you leave the room instead. You’ll save more electricity.
Yeah, it’s getting as bad as r/apple in here.

This is Netflix by country , estimate …. Majority of people outside of USA don’t care about this issue.
https://static.seekingalpha.com/uploads/2016/2/12/saupload_5_1.png
It doesn’t cover US LTE bands , anyhow …. Maybe they’ll make US version later on.
Same. I want Android One and it seems like a great phone all around.
I see it in Western Europe as wel…
“OMFG AMAZING VALUE HOW CAN OTHERS COMPARE.”
And the difference in price is about 5 days worth of food for the average person. >_>.
I understand when the difference is a full workweek. Not when it’s what the average 20 something makes before lunch break.
True that.. For this exact reason, there is a new subreddit for Pocophones so that people talk there rather than everywhere – [https://www.reddit.com/r/PocoPhones](https://www.reddit.com/r/PocoPhones)
Fuck you Poco.
REDMI 5A rules!!!
I mainly see people from Asia, India most of the time, commenting on poco videos taking about how good it is.
They complain about iSheep but that’s what they are except they support Xiaomi instead.
