Until now it seems to be the goodix sensor affected by this bug.
That’s literally what it means.
Gracias
Because the fingerprint sensor of your device is not from goodix.
I’ll try to disable fp and report, though it would be a bit frustrating to unlock the phone now. :l
Well it’s still a possibility.
I mean :CPU usage 100%
So only Goodix’ sensors have this bug?
Still need more info, but all points that the bug starts with the fingerprint scanner, when you have fingerprints to unlock your phone, all cores of the CPU run at the maximum power all the time even when the phone is idle, that drains the battery.
If you turn off the fingerprint unlock, the CPU works normal.
Since i bought this phone 2 months ago i notice that the battery performance was strange, with 100% of battery down to 90% in 2 or 3 hours of idle phone. Now some users reports that it is a bug of the scanner.
I think the problem lies in the developer setting “miui optimisation” because I only started having this problem after turning that setting on
I had this problem on my asus m1 pro. Goodix fingerprint scanner but asus fixed it.
I have fcp too and even though it’s supposedly not effected, disabling my fp scanner has caused a noticeable difference
This is why I’m keeping my other phone still, until they figure this out
Having the 64GB version, I havent had any problems with this. Normal use ends up at about 40% regardless of using the fingerprint scanner.
How do you turn off the scanner?
Actualy i love this phone, if they fix this issue it will be the perfect phone, at least for me
This is huge! I just assumed it was the “tiny” battery!
I’m out of juice by 3pm!
Edit. I just deleted all my prints. CPU is now fluctuating in CPU-Z which I’m guessing its suppose to be instead of being at full speed!
I actually bought a Pocophone because I was disappointed in the battery life!

Check this in the comment shows a command to see wich finger scanner you have
Confirmed on my girlfriend’s A2.
But,.this got me thinking – all of the Mi A2 reviews are wrong about the battery life of this phone.
Mines the 64
I turned off the scanner and then restarted the phone, that solved it, but sucks cant unlock the phone with fingerprint
I have redmi note 5 ai (Chinese variant) and has cou usage 100% all the time.
> The battery drain is caused by all CPU cores being pegged at max speeds, but the exact cause of this issue is unknown at this time.
Can you elaborate on the bug?
Same is happening even with the pie update. It really suuucks!!
Delete all the fingerprints, then restart the phone, that should fix the problem. Good luck.
Is this a verified bug?
So no.
I can confirm. Problem is with goodix fp, I have fcp and my friend has goodix fp difference is clear.
I did some test in variuos conditions, with multiple apps for check the CPU performance. When i have fingerprints registered to unlock the phone the apps registered the maximum power in all 8 cores all the time and dont stop or down, even when the phone is idle, thats causes the battery drains quick.
I turned off the finger scanner and reboot the phone, then all the 8 cores down to normal power levels and constantly up and down as should be. In this case the battery long almost 8 hours of screen.
With the scanner turned on, the 8 cores stucks at max power and never down. If i reboot the phone works normally for a couple of minutes, later the cores up and stuck. In this case is hard to get 4 hours of screen.
CPU-Z and CPU info
Detele all fingerprints fron the settings
“It’s also clear that not everyone is experiencing this battery draining bug even though they are using the fingerprint sensor. So, while it may be a pain, the current temporary fix is to reboot the Xiaomi Mi A2 every now and then. The sad part is that as of yesterday, the Xiaomi developer team has yet to acknowledge this as a bug with one community member involved saying they were told the dev team doesn’t “trust apps like CPU-Z/AIDA64.”

download the cpu-z app
How do we know which fingerprint scanner we have?
I just noticed that all of the options in smart lock disappear whenever the bug triggers.
How did you measure CPU levels?
That’s probably a hardware problem.
For those of you who don’t know, the scanner has a metalic ring around it. Only when the ring detects touch, the scanner starts scanning.
The bug isn’t affecting everyone, and it’s also very difficult to be reliably tracking across users when the bugs were first experienced, whether something has changed in updates past the original software version things shipped with, etc. I wouldn’t jump to the immediate conclusion that it is reviewers being wrong or dishonest.
How can I disable fingerprint? Just deleting the fingerprint that I’ve registered?
Or if I don’t use it, will be the same?
Cause not being known doesn’t mean it wasn’t verified
I have the issue 🙁
I hope so, its stupid have a fingerprint scanner i cannot use it bacuse it causes hyperactivity in the phone. meh
Mi A2 user here. For me it’s fine, no problems like that
De nada!
I have note 4x, you need to enable developer options by tapping miui version 5 times
Me too but its a global redmi note 5. After a few fingerprint unlocks the cpu clocks maxes out and stay like that untill reboot
I’ve heard that some mi a2 lite users have the problem too
And top comment have nothing to do with thread. What a sub. Snapdragon goes to max clock after unlocking phone with goodix fingerprint sensor and stays there until you reboot phone.
It is so obvious by now.
If you dont have that, you have other sensor.
Which app are you using?

Same here, 4/32 model
Something similar is happening to my Redmi Note 4x (4gb 64gb)
How do I check what fingerprint scanner I have
Can we have some confirmation on this? I’m considering selling my device for either a pocophone or a mimax
I have redmi note 5 ai
Have the same problem even after disabling fingerprint sensor.
After using face unlock and PIN for 2 days and every thing is ok, now the 100% cpu frequency comes back again.
So I think this issue is not fingerprint related directly.
Maybe the kernel.
Thank you
Si, versión global, 4/64 GB .
this is verified bug
https://www.xda-developers.com/xiaomi-mi-a2-massive-battery-drain-fingerprint-sensor-bug/amp/
Where is that option? And which phone you have
I’m trying it… let’s see what happens. thanks
does it also affect Mi A2 Lite or just Mi A2? Thanks
I used instead face Unlock as a temporary solution until fixing the issue by xiaomi.
