There’s shouldn’t be anymore excuse for any phone manufacturers put in battery that are smaller than 5,000mAh.

  • 0
  • 0

I have both the Poco X3 and Redmi 9A. Both has 5,000mAh battery, they last all day (and then some) on moderate use, and both phones are just a tad thicker than a wooden pencil.

I don’t care if your shit is optimized (looking at you, Apple). 5,000mAh is is 5,000mAh. If your stuff is optimized, then good, you get more mileage out of that battery.

It’s nice not having to carry a powerbank or a charger with you. It’s nice not having a lump behind your phone, just to extend its runtime. It’s nice not having to micromanage your phone, just to make it last all day. It’s nice to just be able to unplug and use it as you wish. You’re not a slave to your battery/charger.

Seriously, like the title says. There’s no more excuse for a smaller battery. I’m thankful for Xiaomi for cramming big batteries on their phones. That’s one of the reasons I stick with them.

EDIT: I get it, some people wants lighter phones or smaller phones. How about don’t go smaller than 4,000mAh? I’ve had some phones with that capacity and they’re not that heavy and thick.

Also, not having on Apple. I still like them for other things, mainly OS updates and the impressive hardware (aside from the battery).

    Yes there’s an excuse.

Smaller battery = lower manufacturing component cost = higher profit margin potential.

Sure there shouldn’t be an excuse for it but you’ll bet your last dollar that there will still be phones that come out with small batteries.

    I agree, fam.
I’m not used to such a powerful battery. This thing sips battery unless I’m raw dogging it with streaming and other junk. You got to work them to make them drain and I love it.
Casual use? LoL…. It may not even drain.

Yes that’s a fair call but you cannot enable everyone in the mobile phone purchasing market to be as informed and knowledgeable as yourself.

Apple has supreme marketing that sways many to their product despite its often inferior hardware in comparison to competitors on the market. If Apple are able to squeeze profit margin from dropping in a low mAh battery into a phone, you think they wouldn’t do it?

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 was a game-changer. People think that software optimization alone would magically turn a physical object from 3000mah to 4000/5000mah.

SD625 + 4000mah for $140. After that release, many more midrangers are shipped with more than 4000mah.

    Thanks to Xiaomi.

I still have my Mi Max 2 as a secondary device.

SD625 and a 5300mah battery and released just a few months after the Note 4.

I can only agree with you guys.

That’s the big plus of the f3’s AMOLED screen though.

Hopefully we start seeing more budget, and midrangers, with AMOLED screens in the future.

It’s chipset beats snapdragon, for example.

Personally i’ll avoid them. I have a mi note 10, and it’s heavy. I use it in my bed, before sleeping, and it’s impossible to keep on top of my head for more then a fee minutes.

    Light phones >>> heavy phones

Or maybe just bring back those removeable plastic covers that can be changed to whatever you like (rubberized, not slippery) and then maybe we will also have options for 3rd party batteries, since the user can access it.

I used Redmi Note 4 until yesterday. 4 years ago, it gave me 10+ hours of screen time. I tortured the battery but I still got a “not bad” screen time for a 4-years old veteran phone. For a poor guy like me, it was the best phone I could afford.

Even though a smaller battery might reduce the manufacturing cost a bit, I think that it is more to do with planned obsolescence. Meaning that the smaller the battery the faster the battery will stop lasting as long. There for the users will buy a new phone faster resulting in a greater profit.
Edit. And of course additional sales in terms of the ugly cover with the battery in it and external power banks.

My 4250mAh Mi11 lite lasts longer than my mom’s 5160 mAh Poco X3 Pro and it’s thinner and lighter.

The battery size alone doesn’t really mean anything if the phone is well rounded, including optimization.

Almost 2days battery life on my pocox3 with 6000mah, definitely won’t settle on next phone unless battery is 5000mah or more.
More battery life is peace of mind than faster watt charging.

Theres more to a phone’s battery life than mAh.

First of all theres the screen. If it has OLED, it could as well have a better battery with 4000 mAh than a LCD with 5000

Then there is Adaptive refresh rate. The reason the Poco specifically has this good of a battery life is because of how agressive the Adaptive Refresh rate is. It can drop to 1hz in the main menu and homescreen, if a game has only 30fps, the screen will cap at 30hz, Which obviously saves a ton of battery than a constant 60hz or 90-120hz. This has been proven true by Samsung, where the 4500mAh battery of the N20U did considerably better than the 5000mAh of the S20U.

And there is the thing that… well mAh can be misleading.
Back in 2017 there was the Note 8 with 3300mAh battery, and the S8+ with 3500mAh, and the note still came out on top, even if that had a bigger and brighter display. mAh arent everything in a phone, and sometimes these can just be marketing numbers.

I’m really surprised we have batteries as huge as 5000mAh yet we still aim for “last the whole day” at the end you will still have to charge it when you’re sleeping, i hate that, optimization it’s the real way to go, imagine what optimization can do to a 5000mAh battery, probably a whole week without charging, but really, i hate having to always charge my phone at the end of the day, we don’t even use it for such powerfull stuff, we mostly just scroll tru apps and maybe a video or two, not much else.

That’s true, but Xiaomi has its own stupid issues. Like the RAM management. Sometimes I feel like I have 2 GB when I have 6. MIUI’s optimisation is the most pissing off thing, I’ll have only two apps in the background and it’ll decide to close them. The killing off of apps in the background really pisses me off. It used to happen in the redmi note 4 I had earlier, so I thought for the next phone I’d get 6 gb to be safe. Still isn’t great, I hate the optimisation.

I came from the s10 to Mi 10 Pro, I’m so glad the battery lasts all day and I still got extra (compared to charging the s10 twice daily) but the weight difference is pretty noticeable. You can feel it when you use the phone so that’s one of the reason (and cutting costs obviously) why oems choose to put smaller batteries.

    I’ve had>

    iPhone 5 (112g)

    LG G3 (149g)

    Poco F1 (182g)

    Mi9T Pro (191g)

… all served me the whole day (granted, iPhone 5 was a close shave)

    Poco X3 is 225g ….

I’d say there’s a pretty WEIGHTLY reason why all phones are not fucking bricks, like you want.

    they’ve also grown from height/thickness

    123mm/7.6mm,

    146mm/8.8mm,

    156mm/8.9mm to

    165mm/10.1mm in Poco X3

… How fucking big do I really need it to be?

We used to call them “phablet” at one time.

    …but I see your point – as iPhone 12 Pro Max is a big chungus at 228g/3687mAh (1100e) compared to your 225g/6000mAh (219e) …for me , it’s the price.

I am using a Mi 10T, which has a 5000mAh battery. Honestly, it is a big plus for me and I do not think that I can use a smaller battery than that. It easily lasts me for 3-4 days even more than that tbh.

Though, before the Mi 10T, I had an iPhone SE 2nd Gen and iPhone 7. I must say that their form factor is pretty much the best. My Mi 10T is almost twice as big as them.

I do not have small hands but I am not tall with my 1.76m height, hence I cannot put it in my pocket with ease and I am not a fat guy, device is pretty thick with the case. Also, since I do not use my phone that much battery lasts me all day anyway, even with an 1800-1900 mAh iPhone. I can even get 2 days of battery life with moderate usage. But your points are valid and I mostly agree. But Apple’s optimization is pretty good, think of an Android device with 1800mAh battery and a powerful A13 processor. Android cannot achieve that I guess…

I had 3 phones with bigger battery than iPhone Xr that I have now and have never seen better battery life. I had Lenovo P1m with 5” display, efficient processor and 4000mah, got around 5 hours sot. I had Redmi Note4 with 5,5” and 4000 and I got around 6 hours. I had Mi8 with 3400mah and got barely 4 hours. 2900mah or whatever Xr has gets me 6 hours easily on mobile data 8+hours of wifi.

I love my Xr. Had Mi8 before snd it had better camera. When using correct Gcam eith proper settings most photos looked amazing. Especially with Google’s hdr and postprocessing. But rest looked like shit. Or I even missed the whole thing I wanted taken because of how slow it all opened. I love my Xr from screen to battery life and even camera. Its not even slightest the same good as Mi8 but it takes consistently adequate photos. Battery life is almost double with less mah.

The iPhone 6S battery was shit after 3 years. The OS stated 80% performance but it was more like 50% in use.

The way the battery used to drop in Google Maps was astounding, easily 1 to 2% per minute.

    and 3687mAh < 6000mAh while 228g > 225g ….

and especially 219e << 1100e iPhone is better, but not 5X better.

No other phone. This is it. In fact I didn’t notice much the downgrade. I installed Nova Launcher and the Redmi got faster. I can hear the phone calls a lot better with the Redmi and people on the other side of the line also hear me clearer. The battery lasts forever. The only two downgrades that have impacted me yet are the screen and the camera, which are much better on the iPhone. But I do like having a bigger screen. It got me thinking that sometimes we pay too much for gadgets.

On the other hand, my iPhone consistently gets notifications before the Pixel. Every. Single. Time.

I carry my Pixel to work, but the iPhone stays at home because my Apple Watch does everything I need, and links across via the internet. I’ll get a GMail notification on my Watch anything between 10-120 seconds before the Pixel will. Same with other apps.

Edit: The Mi phone will basically go in to a massive hibernation, and I don’t get notifications on that until I lift and unlock it, then I’ll get a huge glob of notifications spanning several hours. Useless.

The redmi note 3 pro was the game changer. That’s where they switched to 4000 mAh batteries. Also the snapdragon 650 had more punch due to its A72 cores, but it wasn’t as efficient as the 625. Still, you could easily get 8-9 hours of SoT, and that was my main concern when I bought the phone in 2016.

The fact that my current phone still only has 4000 mAh makes me kinda sad, even if the chipset is more efficient.

My next phone will definitely have >5000 mAh batteries.

Talking about 2021, not an iphone from 2015.

IPhone 13 isn’t out yet so take it with a grain of salt.

IPhone 12, more pixels per inch, sharper and also brighter (650 nits (pro and pro max even brighter) vs 400 nits according to gsmarena)

X3 higher frame rate (love it, but iphone, regular, has a better screen)

Both have stereo speakers, But I have owned both Apple and Xiaomi, Apple has better sound, period.

Battery, Yes Xiaomi has a bigger one, But 2 different os systems, so the difference may vary on useage.

Charging, Xiaomi charges faster and it’s battery degrades therefor faster (fast charging a lithium battery is like blowing up a balloon, fast charging is like blowing into it with an air blower… It can only handle as much as it can, charging faster heats it and it degrades faster).. But I love fast charging more than 20w with Apple.. Then again Apple has wireless charging, which x3 does not.

Camera, iphone hands down, you your self said you NEEDED Gcam to get better pics. Having a costum solution cause you can not rely on stock cam… Is the main reason I wont be Buying a Xiaomi any more.

And a tiny back to chip, iphone 12 has about 2x faster chipset than x3.

Edit: I will buy a Samsung next.
And i’m not an Apple fsnboy.

    Just to clarify

Edit2: please dont even try to compare the redmi 9a to either one of those 2 (iphone nor x3) it’s one of the cheapest Xiaomi phones currently avaliable, and it alos behaves like that. =)

I know that replaceable batteries mean it’s more difficult (impossible?) to waterproof phones, but I’d honestly like to have the choice. In 20 years I don’t think I’ve ever dropped my phone into a puddle, a sink, or got more than a wee bit of rain on one. Certainly not enough to care about IPX8 or whatever ratings. I’d much rather have a swappable battery option.

I buy what gives me reliable battery power. Both my Lumia 820 and now my iPhone 12 mini get me over 2 day, without having to worry some apps going bonkers eating it all down in 5 hours.

The fact that the Batteries are < 3000mAh, in addition, is environment friendlier.

I have a Mix 3 and while I love how the phone looks (bezel less without a notch), it’s too large for me personally. Most people put cases on their phones so they’re even thicker.

I’d love if manufacturers (other than Apple, I want an Android) made thin, medium sized phones like the iphone 12 mini. I just love having a small thin phone, I don’t mind if it doesn’t last all day, just give people like me the option to buy something like that. People who like big phones with lots of battery can keep loving them, totally fine.

When did I compare iPhone with the X3? That wouldn’t be a fair comparison in the first place considering the huge price gap. I said “the competition” which means flagship vs flagship. I also didn’t specify only Xiaomi because my comment is related to Der0- comment. Point is, iPhone managed to sell their product high price tags eventhough most of their hardware are inferior to competitors that are sometimes are even cheaper than them

I meant the hardware. Compared to companies like Xiaomi, Samsung and Huawei, Apple is already far behind. iPhone cameras are good because of the image processing is very good on IOS

I suspect that it’s because our phone usages increase with better battery life. My SOT has doubled over the years.

Those who don’t use their phones that much don’t have to charge daily. Maybe once every two or three days?

I’m not saying it’s not possible – I just think it would be seen as a manufacturing expense too far and bump up the price, so I’d happily choose the replaceable battery if it was a choice between the two things.

But I think you are correct on the Note 5. (I went from the 4 to the 8 so skipped a few iterations!)
