This is a strategy. They price this phone high to boost their sale of Poco F2 pro coming out in a few days. It is supposed to be the cost effective flagship killer. But to raise the bracket, they designed a phone to lower people’s expectations so that when the F2 pro is out, it will look like a better deal. I used to love MI but no more after this.
TLDR: I mean, if wanted a pixel 3, then sure its worth it. It worths great and has plenty of custom rom support. though 845 and a 3400mah battery leave the battery life to be desired.
I mean depends on what you want, if you wanted a cheap snapdragon 855 phone then mi 9T pro is probably better? if you want a snapdragon 865 phone on the cheap maybe wait for the budget redmi k30 pro with 865 (got a decent vibration motor and massive battery too) to come to market and dont use wireless charging.
NOTE: I use my phone with and without wireless charging, my mi 9 pro charges super fast either way 🙂
If you want a 90hz display, with full on dual speakers and the fanciest of sensors/108Mp, wireless charging, fancier design, dont give a darn about the whats teh best looking notch/prefer notchless and dont need a 3.5mm jack because i dont know if someone is buying an expensive phone surely they can afford bluetooth headphones? if you are spending that much money why would care about a sd card either? no you wouldn’t android never used teh sd card well and I’ve since found it easier not ot have an sd card problem.
Would you recommend getting a MI 8 in 2020?
What do you do that truly need and require 865 ?
Fair enough. I’m still holding out for a Mi Mix 4 or whatever they call it.
OP8 spec still pending to confirm, at this point of time mi 10 pro is still ranked 1st in my mind. I will get the china version as that will save quite a huge sum.
Do you think it will be better than OnePlus 8 Series ?
This is a true flagship, more expansive phone can’t beat its no.1 stereo speakers.
S20 Ultra probably just slightly better in camera, but not a big deal.
S20 with limited usage of 120hz, exynos as usual a much hotter soc easily end up mostly just stay at 60hz.
Charging speed not as fast as mi 10 pro.
Battery stamina not as good as mi 10 pro.
Samsung software update is not as good as xiao mi, btw latest one UI 2.1 probably wont update in note 9 & note 9, both are flagship that not too long time ago.
How to justify s20 ultra is suppose to sell more expansive than mi 10pro?
Samsung all this while is selling at ridiculous price, just that people already too get used to that ridiculous price.
5g isn’t available everywhere and looks like the china version has better 5g support as well
By your needs do not mean your criteria but what do you really need ? Does a 865 chip is very useful for you a just a waste of money ? Do you need something like this powerful ? Like why not 765G ?
But for 865 K30 Pro is the best
Depends your need
The thing that you do not understand is that Redmi is from Xiaomi and Redmi still doing affordable phones High End, Mid-End and low end. Like the Redmi K30 Pro is about to get release for Global. So what’s the problem ? Amoled Screen, 4 cameras, side fingerprint sensor, SD865 etc so Maybe you want a sportive one but you cant afford a ferrari juste take A Golf GTI
I don’t drive at all. My point is that I used Xiaomi because they offered almost flagship level phones for the fraction of the price. For that I could close my eyes on their shortcomings. Now they cost like a proper flagship from a reputable company. Great that they still offer budget phones for budget prices, but I don’t need budget phone.
Better example would be no a Corolla, but something like Avalon is better. Avalon is a full-size sedan, I had enough money for it and it filled my needs: big, smooth enough car. Now the price for new one was bumped to the level of the newest Panamera — three times. But prices for Corolla is still the same. Thing is, I don’t need a Corolla, I need Avalon, but it’s out of my reach from now.
Auris and Corolla are kind the same type of car. Do you have a Corolla break ?
But Corolla met my needs and Auris doesn’t. That’s the problem.
So you don’t take a new Corolla but you like Toyota so you take one that stick to your use like a Toyota Auris. Because Toyota still a good brand
Xiaomi thinks they can substitute Huawei in the European market and that by doing so, they can increase their pricing. Let’s see how the market reacts.
No, I buy a decent Corolla. But once Toyota starts pricing Corollas on par with newest Ferrari they lost me, because no matter how I like them and how good they fit my needs, I cannot afford them.
a mi 8 has enough support to be a pixel 3, at pixel 3a prices. a little know how and its amazingly stock and stable 🙂
Wouldn’t consider buying it, if in australia. What actually has tanked is the australian dollar. I have the mi 9 pro, the vibration motor alone is worth the money.
No not samsung, Samsung experience is either overheated, laggy and just as easy to break. Thats brand loyalty, seem plenty of bad samsung exynos socs to know that its not worth it, unless work makes me.
Xiaomi mi 10 offers good value at that price, either oneplus 8 or mi 10 is a fair comparison.
You cant expect everything at a budget
Mate…why you talking about 4G when the whole point of this device is 5G?
I got to say, my mi 8 held up against water much better than my mate 20 pro. A certification is a certification. I’m keen for the mi 10. More so than a Samsung s20, one that this is a 5G phone and the samsung is a 4G one, almost that isn’t money huh.
It’s just fair that they would increase the price up to $300 since we outside china mainly uses google services rather xiaomi’s offerings which we all know subsidize these phones.
Is not only, they are charging almost the same than a S20, with a 1080p screen, worse fingerprint scanner, usb 2.0 vs 3.1 on the galaxies. Come on, they are not going to sell any of they have the same price with worse specs than Samsung. The only big advantage is the processor, because exynos sucks.
I mean, they teased us 3 different phones back in 2019, the very first one was the Note 10 with that new 108mp sensor, we got the Mi10 and another phone which was most likely the Mix 4 / 2020 with a front camera under the screen.
My best bet is they are not quite happy with the idea and are pushing their Mi 10 for now.
>new Redmi = old Xiaomi.
Not even so.
Redmi note series doesn’t have the same pricing anymore. The cheapest redmi note 9 series is the pro version, pricing it as expensive as redmi note 8 pro.
Xiaomi has created a new category of phones which is cheap phones. And among those cheap phones such as xiaomi, realme, vivo they aim to be the “premium” one.
If you try to look at it, for the same spec redmi isn’t even the cheapest anymore. It’s realme
Honestly at that price OnePlus is your best bet. Or maybe realme x2 pro (the software is kinda similar to MIUI)
Only if we allow it
Mi 9 got Android 10 much faster than the Redmi note 7 for example.
Also Mi 9 will most likely get at least 4 MIUI version updates so Mi 10 will get up to MIUI 15.
I only ever bought a xiaomi because it had 9/10 samsung flagshio features at 2/3 the price. As they raise the price, even if features are catching up i would never buy a xiaomi instead of a Samsung.
Why is this crazy to you? Because Samsung has the meme camera?
The peak argument every time a legitimate questions being asked and you somehow take it to an emotional personal level. Then let me ask a more “personal” level, did apple feed you their clean optimize farmed fresh iphone from mainland china since baby?
The article is right about Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro being too expensive but I don’t agree with the fact that in Europe the galaxy s20 is more competitive. First the S20 in Europe comes Exynos which has about 15% worse battery life than the Snapdragon variant. Thta to me is a deal breaker right from the start.
If you look at the flagship competition on Android in Europe this year it will mostly come down between Samsung Xiaomi and One Plus.
LG seems to care more for USA’s market and Sony, well they are just out of touch with reality.
See my response to the other reply. My point is exactly that; if you think a Samsung is the only phone worth getting at this price point, go get it instead of complaining that you despise Samsung and therefore Xiaomi must conform to your wishes
Yes, I got mine at just under €230, struck when the price was right! 128GB too 😉 This was from Gearbest, highly recommended.
Got my 9T on day 1 for 299€. Couldn’t be happier with my purchase!
Oh, didnt know that. That is wayy too much. Still at 300e its really good
I will tell you why. Because Samsung only sells phones with Exynos SoC in Europe (Exynos 990 is barely faster than a Snapdragon 855 in CPU benchmarks and behind in GPU) Huawei doesen’t have Google support so it’s not realy usable for most users also Kirin SoC has the same problem as the Exynos, it’s 1 generation behind. Mi 10 pro’s camera is almost as good as S20 Ultra’s, there are no ads on my Mi 9t pro and I doubt there will be any on the Mi 10 so I don’t really see the problem and if you want you can still import a Mi 10 from china and pay way less
It was released at 900 bucks… Sold zero. Now it’s 300…
I didn’t say you were but you’ve used such meaningless language it just sounds like fanboy talk. All you had to say was you like the apple badge on the back.
Hey, what do you mean the mi mix 3 5g tanked ? My friend bought it the other day and is really good for the value
Now it’s just a smartphone brand among others
Bro, the Mi 9T Pro isn’t a mi phone but a Redmi. It’s the Redmi K20 Pro. So why don’t you buy the Redmi K30 Pro that has very good camera, it has 5G with SD 865. And Redmi still doing affordable phones. Do whatever you want but it’s kinda stupid to take a phone more expensive than the Mi 10 Pro.
Do you need a Ferrari to go buy some bread ?
No problem!
I’m sorry. You’re right. Thank you for the correction.
Most mainline xiaomi brands tank anyways in Australia. We could grey import LG phones, and provider locked Samsung A series phones are always on discount. The k20 and the mi5 are the only 2 high end phones that caught on here.
I think you’re confusing it with the Mi Note 10 Pro. Mi 10 or 10 Pro haven’t been launched in Pakistan yet.
I don’t understand why don’t they also raise the price of the Chinese version too. Xiaomi is still leaning a bit more in the enthusiast side when it comes to brands, so if they want to charge higher, it seems weird to have 2 identical product with a massive price difference. It affects their consumers sense of value when it comes to their phones. It’s a weird move from a marketing perspective.
China has around 10% tax for mobile devices (but I may be wrong, found a lot of numbers for it). But that is still 30-35% higher.
Eu has built in 25% vat for starters
Samsung are pretty bad imo
I guess it depends on the region, Xiaomi phones are also sold by carriers since about last year in Germany.
It’s not as good as a flagship but still as high as a flagship with its price. Xiaomi lacks a lot in the higher end.
My problem is, I can get the s20s on a plan, with 10-15% discount or new-for-old.
The mi 10, not so much.
To be fair if I had to buy one in the price bracket, I would go for the Xiaomi, just because it’s still cheaper than even the 4g version of the S20 series, has a Snapdragon instead of an Exynos and good main cam. That said I doubt I will see this phone much outside the stores, except maybe if it drops in price like the Mix 3 5g, which was launched at 600€ and sold at less than 300€ after a short while.
Their main appeal was affordable yet powerful and reliable devices. People were willing to forgive minor inconveniences and flaws because of their insane value for money. Now that they’re competing with Samsung for the crown for pricing phones higher, that appeal is quickly diminishing and they will be held to the same stricter expectations as those in similar price range. Not gonna be very pretty, when one is known for infesting every nook and cranny of its software with ads.
Sure, but why do they charge 50% extra for EU market?
They never were the “cheap” company, they were the good price/value with very low level software/warranty support. They are charging 50% more in Europe for their phone.
They will be known as the “F\*CK the GLOBAL MARKET” company in a few weeks. And this is not their first decision. (They didn’t make Redmi Note 7 pro available in global market, because they had a different strategy).
I just hope they will realize it fast enough.
There are 5.5 billion people in the rest of the world. I don’t see your logic. Any company that has a chance to grab a new market will want to take that chance.
Yeah, last years “flagship” was Mi 9, we got 4 firmware updates for that in 1 year. They even made MIUI11 available for Redmi Note 7 faster then the “flagship”.
This is orverpriced, they are far behind in the software updates to charge 1000 euro for a phone. They will stop updating once the MI 11 will come out, so you are getting around 4-5 firmwares for an 1000 euro phone. Thats not what flagship means for me.
A phone that’s barely better than a Mi 9t Pro, but costs 3 times more.
FYI I have the Mi 9 and it works great on US networks.
So, I think it’s time for Google to make a really good affordable phone like the pixel 3a. A lot of people would be very interested in that phone now that Xiaomi flagships don’t have a reasonable price.
> chinese pricing
actually, xiaomi chinese pricing has fuckup since cc9/mi 9 lite. I think they intented for global version to be more expensive than the chinese version. That doesn’t stop me from getting the cc9 and flash it with the 9 lite rom though 🙂
Well I bought a Mi 8 last year for 350€, I could buy a Mi 9 right now for 350€, I’ve been super happy with the Mi 8 as my first Android phone after 9 years of iPhones but if that’s how they price their phones now I’ll go back to my Apple strategy and will buy cheap models from two years ago.
The Galaxy S10 looks mighty fine and I hope I can snag one next year for \~400€.
But what I win from them making better phones that I couldn’t afford?
This is weird. In Pakistan, MI 10 Pro is about 45% the price of S20 ultra
Official Xiaomi store in Spain
The reason for me to buy a Xiaomi phone is mainly because I know it will have better compatibility with custom ROMs and that’s important to me as an android enthusiast but at that point I might as well just but a OnePlus device.
Yes, the debacle around the prices are only outside China since it’s priced 300€ higher
Good thing the K30 Pro is here. But unfortunately its super heavy apparently (220g) and more expensive
Serious question. I live in Shanghai. I can walk 800m to Wanda Plaza, into the xiaomi store, and pick up a 小米 10 for 3999rmb today. That is about $560 or €510. Still a bad price? Or quite acceptable? My mi6 is dying rapidly. My wife’s mi6 is only a few months behind mine. We need new phones as our current pair are 3 years old now. I would love to know if anyone would buy one for those prices?
holy fuck. what??? i thought it was gonna be $600 or smth i was legit thinking of buying it. Xiaomi, why?
Well yeah the Mi series flagships haven’t been cheap since like the Mi3
Don’t understand why the Global version ONLY has a 256GB max !
Ridiculous in that top segment, especially since the Chinese version does seem to have 512GB.
I was going to get one (Global) untill I saw the bad news. Shame …..
I have a theory
Their crazy pricing is way to boost sales in china so the Chinese buyers will feel they got a good deal.
Xiaomi probably don’t have a lot stock to sell in foreign market ?
Anyway only my suspicion.
Very disappointed.
also, it’s already on the news last year.
Why Mi 9T series is cheap? Well, it’s originally the Redmi K20 series after all.
Let’s just see how global Redmi K30 Pro priced first.
I guess this is how they work. Companies build great value and affordable phones, then move up to mid range, upper mid and then flagship (plus more!). Its the same with Oneplus as well. Very disappointing 🙁
on the Mi9t, hopefully Mi11t/12t would be affordable when I change in 2-3 years time…
That’s exactly my point. If you think you prefer a Samsung at that price point, get a Samsung instead of complaining that you despise the only phone you think is worth getting
Samsung makes very solid phones with more features and better almost everything compared to a Xiaomi. Not to mention the built in ads that keeps Xiaomi cheaper. Samsung flubs a lot of shit (Note 7), are anti-consumer (raising prices and ditching the 3.5mm jack), but they produce great phones.
With those prices, will they dial-down those in-phone ads?
Hold on I honestly don’t get the logic here. So is your problem that Xiaomi is only a good brand when they’re both cheap and high performing, or does Samsung have a get-out-of-jail-free card for being expensive?
“I despise Samsung”
“So don’t buy them”
“But the brand I don’t despise isn’t cheaper than a Samsung”
“Then buy a Samsung…?”
Same here, I was waiting for the Mi10 pro to be available to buy it but that price is a straight no. Thank god my day one Mi9 still works fine so I’ll wait until a decent price drop to buy a Mi10
Guys stop crying like babies here. Xiaomi said like a year ago that the prices will change. Why? To make more premium phones ta beat lile Huawei Mate 30 Pro, Samsung S20 Ultra etc. That’s why they gave independence to Redmi. Redmi will take care of affordable phones and Xiaomi will upgrade. Whatever you don’t fuck need that powerful smartphone to just jack off on your favorite pornstar or take shitty pictures on snapchat or even say some shits on twitter. Take that Mi 10 Lite. This one is affordable and sufficient for your use.
yes, affordable flagship of Xiaomi is Redmi K30 Pro now.
is it hard to understand the word ” flagship”
> Should have expected the iOS Hater Android Army to show up LOL!
A prime argument against what was said. You just showed you have no argument at all.
And at the same time they removed the memory slot from the K30 Pro. So we’re back where we a started. All phones lack some feature I need and I ain’t buying shit again.
Well they don’t want to be known as the cheap company forever – they made Redmi separate for that
Well no point to upgrade the mi9t pro then in a while
Actually on the live global launch 2 nights ago, they said xiaomi’s revenue is around 50% china 50% global sales. Not sure whether that was for their phones or all products. Seems this flagship phone has similar spec to other flagships but cheaper. Plus the AUD dollar has dropped significantly recently.
Yeah those are overpriced as well imo. Cameras are great but the SOC can’t handle the image processing properly.
Annoying stutter in videos and slooooow snapping.
My mistake. I looked at the mi note 10 pro.
I love oneplus. Oneplus 5T was my first android phone after Apple, twas mind-blowing how good it was at the time. Super fast charging was one of the stand outs compared to iPhones.
The hater thing was not only for you and I understand that all of that might be important to you but it is not to me.
I do not use emulators much less on phones and very rarely play games on my phone.
I play games on my PC, have around 500 games on Steam and a bunch more on all the other main clients.
The grid is ok to me I like it like that. My apps are organised the way I want though.
Where the heck did you buy it for 230??
I see you’re from Australia like me, so I’ll just reply here instead of making my own comment and staring s fight with these people that bash mi and redmi etc yet still continue to use their products – it drives me insane.
Also, people love to say things like “hmm Mi10 is definitely a new phone but they don’t have NFC version 3d3d4d3d3 so I’ll just be sticking with my eight year old Xiaomi phone” drives me nuts man.
But what I wanted to say is yeah, the price increase is understandable. Like you said. People saying “they’ll drop the price within weeks because the value will tank” here’s a fun fact for that mindset: the global market is more an afterthought to Xiaomi. There are 1.5 billion people in china. 23 people saying the phone is too expensive in Europe won’t make a difference to them!! Ps hope you’re going okay with this virus crap
How about one plus?
Same here. When I saw specs and chinese pricing, I was 100% certain I would get it.
Now, I got nothing. K30 pro doesn’t cut it with 60hz for me. Oneplus doesnt ship to providers and I’m not super excited to flash out 700 bucjs in one go.
All i got is samsung and i really despise that brand.
That’s the corporate strategy stated in their annual conference and the incorporation of RedMi as a separate company. As expected, the price and components will reflect this change. This is a commonly used tactic in business to get a portion of targeted user to shift to the RedMi brand.
In the article, it states that it’s only 200 euro more expensive than in China if you account for VAT. You need to account for logistics, duties, and other cost of goods sold as well. Even then, it’s only comparable to Galaxy S9+, OnePlus 7 Pro. So I’d say it’s not that bad.
the Chinese version also has support for band 12, which the global version apparently does not…
Should have expected the iOS Hater Android Army to show up LOL!
I’m not trying to convince you to switch to iOS, it’s just my preference.
Respect it the same way I respect yours. You don’t like iOS and I don’t like Android.
You can keep buying whatever phone you like and I’ll keep buying iPhones.
Nothing to do with Xiaomi tough, I like the brand.
Looking at the Australia conversion, the Mi 10 pro is nearly as much as the s20 ultra. Which is absolutely crazy, that decision is a no brainer.
Lies. 999 for the pro and 799 for the regular version.
https://mobile.mi.com/fr/
I really like it. Price is right, but the screen… So bummed about that refresh rate
So a 800euro phone with no ip68 rating? Only hd screen? Yeah that’s warranted. Also, the phone is 300 bucks cheaper in China my man. This is not gonna go well for them.
Because xiaomi is focusing on the high end and the moved the affordable line to redmi.
Literally. What does cleaner even mean? And superior? Just junk words that are meaningless and unquantifiable.
Its 650€ on xiaomi french site. For the pro.
Not really.
Just the Mi ones. Other Xiaomi brands are focused on cheaper phones. The Mi line is the closets to premium. That was on the Xiaomi business plan last year; I don’t understand everyone reaction to the pricing.
The non-pro, still great considering it was usually priced at 330.
What the pro? damn that’s an awesome price! I waited long enough and my old phone was done for really, plus I was worried they would run out of stock!
Absolutely, I just got it 2 weeks ago for €230 after waiting for months, this phone is a beast.
So glad I got my Mi 9T (non pro, but pro is awesome too), incredible phone and does everything fast that I would want, with a lovely display at a price less than half of others.
I’d definitely recommend anyone to buy one now before they run out of stock.
Its about 1200AUD for the MI 10, bloody pricey 100%. Still will buy cause I will never touch apple or samsumg again. Currently use MI MIX 3.
Honestly, the specs are worth the increase in price. Its a massive jump from the 9.
It’s 300 bucks cheaper in China. That’s why it’s doing well
k30 pro???
Always the classis reason “the ecosystem” lmao.
That’s not what I said. I said “ONE of the reasons”.
I’ve always been an Apple fanboy and IMHO, iOS user experience is far superior, smoother, cleaner… but when they launched €1000 iPhones I tought that Xiaomi was a nice company with quality products and with €400 flagships so I decided I would give another opportunity to Android… And I had a Mi6, Mi Mix 2, Mi9 and mid-range Redmi Note 7 also a MiBox, MiPad 4 (still have but is my daughter that uses it the most) and a WearOS watch but always kinda missed Apple ecosystem, so when I heard that they would go up… it was just one more reason to switch. Maybe I just used it as an additional excuse to return.
If I have to spend €800/€1000 on a phone I would not buy anything else than an iPhone.
right, that might be a problem. However I purchased mine brand new 2 months ago and then were a lot of Mi9 to sell
Why would you go to apple? Apple has almost the most expensive products on the market and they are always making things more complicated ie repaire. And returning a phone cuz the anounced something about their next phone is really dumb imo.
Ehhhh, its doing pretty good in Chinese market, its unlikely for them to change strategy since they have been saying “increase phone price” for years… And I think they are just putting Redmi to target the budget phone market, so basically new Redmi = old Xiaomi.
It was announced last year when I bought the Mi9 (that I ended up returning) that it would be the last affordable Xiaomi flagship. That’s one of the reasons I returned to Apple and thank God I did… I’ll never leave again.
Problem is, they are discontinued and stocks are getting real low. Almost impossible to find one here nowadays.
I bet Mi9T Pro sell will sky high now. It’s such a great smartphone. Best I had and I had a lot smartphones in the past. With Mi10 crazy price tag I really don’t see a reason to go for 10 instead of 9
Why would anyone buy a xiaomi phone priced the same as a Samsung s20+. This will tank badly, similar to the mi mix 3 5g
Edit: typo
Probably not, they will probably go back to the affordable strategy because this phone will undoubtedly do badly.
