A lot of people hate EMUI and MIUI but having used both they are not bad at all. On first look the settings are rearranged a bit but when you get used to it, the skins are quite good. I don’t get all the hate. I dislike Samsungs Touchwiz more because they feature pack their phones with the worst features, eye tracking crap, bixby…
MKBHD and Linus Tech Tips have both done a video on it. Probably some others too.
I honstly never had that issue. 200$ or 600$ phone, they both get rooted in less than an hour of walking out the store, one way or another. Imho non rooted = unsafe.

For me, absolutely nothing. I don’t use always on display. You may have issues with some lesser known messaging apps, but Telegram and whatsapp and gmail work fine, so I can’t complain. I’m satisfied with the phone!

He is doing the same thing to Huawei. Also possibly because the US banned them as well. The P20 Pro and the Mate 20 Pro are the best all around phones at the moment and that is hard fact. The phones received numerous Best of the year awards by different sites and yet he crowns the 1+ as the best phone.

Fair enough, I’m in the edge of getting one. I actually do like MIUI (Redmi 5 plus) so I think it’d be a good fit overall
I believe it’s something with the MIUI 10 possibly that allows it? But you just need to look for a Gcam APK for the Mi8 and install it, nothing else is needed. I tried a few on XDA there was a big list of APKs and the 2nd one I tried worked perfectly. I’ll see if I can find that list again and PM it to you.

I’ve just switched from an 1.5yo LG G6, of which I had similar issues. Can confirm it is worth it although the only thing I’ve found that’s a turn off is the aggressiveness of the default MIUI apps. LG was a dream to switch back to (near) stock android compared.
You don’t lose warranty
Nova Launcher and Pixel icons does the trick for me. Miui isn’t as bad as most people claim that it is. Also on the Mix 2s you can download the GCam APK now without needing to root or anything.

MKBHD is very shallow. It’s like he lives in a bubble and don’t understand anymore how a normal person relates with technology.
Ah. I have the OnePlus 5t and I think MIUI is miles ahead (spent lots of time with the redmi 4x and pocophone).

Its not only about launcher.
Just put launcher on it? Nova Launcher is the typical go-to.
Try the pure miui which is the xiaomi.eu rom.
Also there are probably other roms being developed but the Mi Mix 3 is relatively new but Xiaomi phones generally get good rom support it seems.
I’m on the Redmi 5 Plus as well and I’m also torn between the Mix3 and the 6T. If the 6T had a back fingerprint sensor and wireless charging it would be an easy choice.

Can you tell me more about GCam without root? I need just apk for it there are more things to do before?
Does your fingerprint scanner still work everywhere (such as banking apps) after root? When I rooted my previous phone (redmi note 3) it stopped working, which is a dealbreaker for me…

Indeed. I never had this problem because my budget are always $300. My previous phone is a zenfone 2. Which is worse, which never got OS update.
And my option when buying this (mi5s plus) is either mi A1 or this. There’s no competition here. Snapdragon 821 vs 625. If i got mi A1, would’ve switched phone by now since even this is starting to struggle

I know, i can’t stand him either. Same with MKBHD. I always loose interest in youtubers when they get so big their character changes and their ego swells which is making them kinda obnoxious and weird.

He’s pretty consistent in his criticism. He likes the hardware but doesn’t like miui. Which is fair in my opinion, I don’t like miui either.
