Thing is that iPhone users need to be willing to make the jump. A couple of friends of mine, to which i suggested RN7 because their iPhone 6 broke out of the blue, were groaning all the time. (Now they love it)

You know what do i tell to iPhone users often? You simply don’t deserve a Xiaomi

You want to pay a thousand dollars because you are so convinced that is worth it? Do it. You don’t deserve to spend well your money, don’t deserve to have savings, and most of all, you don’t deserve any help.

iPhones are overrated smartphones. For a price of one iPhone you can buy minimum of 2 very good quality Xiaomi phones. I don’t know why people are buying iPhones. Maybe because of brand…

I never owned an apple product, but the fact that the iPhone 5s received software updates for 6 years sounds amazing.

Yes that sounds amazing. They have very good software updates. But comparing Xiaomi and Apple is not possible. Xiaomi will release more smartphones (e.g.: Redmi Note 7, Redmi 7, Mi 9 SE, Mi 9, Mi Mix…) in one year than Apple has released in his all history. It’s almost impossible for Xiaomi to update every one of their devices while Apple has just a few devices… 🙂

That’s definitely a plus that iPhones have far superior software support than any Android device out there, however the good thing about Android is that it has community support through custom ROMs.

Instead of 4.7″ it has almost 6″ screen

Well, it’s not few nowdays. Just look what Apple products will get iOS 13 (iPads (Pro 11-inch and 12.9-inch sizes, Mini 5, Air), iPod, iPhone(8, 8+, X, XR, Xs, Xs Max – different screens) (that’s my assumption).

I agree that Xiaomi has more but Apple started “branching out”. Few years ago it had just one screen (5s) and then started with Plus version and now three different models of screen.

Happy to see someone caught what I meant to say.
I can’t stress this enough: it is their money and they decide how to spend it. If they feel fine with 1000+$ iPhone, it is just fine. I don’t get anything in return for convincing people otherwise.

For me it’s not because of the brand. I used to own iPhones. I use Apple products because of the ecosystem, they synchronize very well with each others but yes I got out of it because Apple products are too expensive.

Not really overrated. Overpriced yes, overrated no. One of the best photo cameras, the best video camera of any phone, best chipset, one of the best displays, great face unlock, long update support, simplicity and the most important part: iOS. People use iPhones because they like iOS, it’s as simple as that.

Xiaomi has more of an ecosystem because they have backpacks, air purifiers, watches, sunglasses, taps, laptops, tablets, vacuums, all as well as their phones.

I still can’t understand why people like it. I am owner of an iPad and I don’t really like iOS because of a minimum of functions. It’s just my opinion but for me is Android far better. And good sync with other devices has a lot of brands.

Toughest part of the switch is the cameras when using other apps. But honestly that’s manageable when compared to the fact that you saved around well 800 bucks.

“Not one of the best displays” it literally has **the** best display after the Galaxy S10. It even beat the Note 9. They’re produced by Samsung, obviously, but designed and calibrated by Apple.

Xiaomi products are great! Apple products are also great! Are Apple products are overpriced? Yes. Can you guarantee quality and support for every Xiaomi product? No.

There are always pros and cons, some people will regret moving from iOS to android and some will regret moving from android to iOS, it’s just personal preference. But ultimately in the Xiaomi subreddit people will hate on Apple, and in the Apple subreddit they will hate on everyone else 😅.

Say an iPhone or s S9 costs 1500 AUD for that price I could buy a Redmi note 5 Pro $300 mi pad 4 plus 400. Tic watch S 300 and a mi box 2 for 200. You can basically build an android ecosystem for less than an iPhone. Also Xiaomi devices are great for custom ROMs so you could use stock android rather than miui like I do. On the mi pad and Redmi note 5.

You talked about spec, and most people that bought iPhone doesn’t really care about that. They bought it because of the brand, the experience, the ecosystem, the prestige, and it just worked out for them. If you talked about spec to them, they won’t hear you.

What about Linux you get the customisation of android theming icon packs different desktop environments on your PC. Mac is okay though as it’s based on Unix like Linux anything is better than windows and all the bloat and garbage. Also gaming is better than on mac thanks to proton and lutris making wine and dxvk easier to configure and setup and dxvk in general that isn’t present on Mac OS.

Sadly without root you can’t really backup an android phone properly. With twrp you can backup everything including the rom apps installed etc. This is called. Nandroid backup. You can also use an app like titanium backup to backup apps data SMS call logs etc. Meaning if you are rooted you can take a backup from one phone to another when you upgrade without having to re-download apps from the play store and setup the device. Linux is great for gaming. I have ditched windows and couldn’t be happier most games unless they use EAC or intrusive from work fine in proton and lutris including things like Uplay ,origin, epic store, battlenet etc.

Have you tried custom ROMs ? I would recommend Linux as an alternative to hackintosh proton and lutris means mist games just work thanks to dxvk unless they use EAC. https://www.protondb.com/ https://lutris.net/

Thanks! I was choosing between Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S, Google Pixel 3a and Pocophone F1 but Poco have the best performance for the best price.

Another question! Does Poco F1 have a good camera ? Or not

I just switched to a Mi 9 after using Apple products all the way from the iPhone 4 to the 7 Plus. I miss AirDrop, and some little things here and there, but overall I’m glad I did

Not necessarily the brand. I miss my 7 Plus sometimes because the integration of all its functions *just work*. For example I can change more settings with Siri than with Google Assistant, and it never messes up my music metadata & album art. For many people they choose iPhones because it doesn’t require as many hoops and tweaks to be smooth

Switched after having every gen iPhone from 1 to X. I got a Mi 9 Transparent 12GB and it is amazing. Other than Apple’s imessage messing up some communication (even with it disabled on Apple’s end). I have had nothing but an amazing experience. So glad to finally be rid of the Apple Ecosystem and have control of my device.

    Blablablabla.

I hear/read this nonsense a lot. But people don’t seem to realize that in many cases it’s iOS that make people buy iPhones. Not the hardware and not because it’s Apple.

I will switch to Xiaomi in an instant if Apple somehow decides to make iOS open source.

Sounds like you never had an iPhone in your hand for more than a couple seconds.

I’ve seen many OLED displays look worse than LCD displays on iPhones. The XR for example might have a shitty screen specs wise, but in reality it really isn’t bad at all.

When you talk about specs you mean processing power?Because nothing beats the iPhone for many years now…A12 chips probably will be beaten by Qualcomm after Apple releases A14.And still they will be at least 2 years behind.Spec wise…

Having had multiple Xiaomi phones (and still having a Mix 2S), I can confidently tell you that your comment is both impressively stupid and makes it seem like you have incredible levels of insecurity if you care so much about a phone brand.

I’ve had numerous phones from many many brands (including an iPhone 5S), and I’ll make an effort to explain myself better instead of saying how much your analysis on my personality based on a comment on Reddit is dumb.

What I mean by “iPhone users don’t deserve Xiaomi” is that they actually don’t deserve to get a good deal. Tell me, why did you buy a Mix 2S? I bet that it is because it has good spec, decent camera, a nice screen and design and it was even a fair price, right?

I could say the same, I don’t have much money to spend, actually when my old phone broke almost 2 years I had almost zero savings. Yet I could grab this phone for 150 euros which was… just fine. Really.

If you are willing to, go check YouTube for interviews of people queueing up for iPhone XS at launch, it is every year the same story, they get asked “But why do you do this? Why switching from such an expensive phone?” etc etc and it always is “It is just better”.

It is always just better, even when Apple charges 3 times more for below average specs it is always just better. Even if it is not true, they just need to believe it enough to be true, and don’t care enough / don’t want to even learn more.

So there you go, if Xiaomi being a company I kinda like makes me a person with personality issues feel free to substitute it with any nice brand you like, OnePlus, Samsung, I don’t care, reality still is, if you’re not willing to objectively learn what you’re talking about, you honestly don’t deserve a good price for your deal.

    > What I mean by “iPhone users don’t deserve Xiaomi” is that they actually don’t deserve to get a good deal.

I’d argue that they are getting a good deal though.

    >Tell my, why did you buy a Mix 2S? I bet that it is because it has good spec, decent camera, a nice screen and design and it was even a fair price, right?

    Yes.

It also sits in my drawer, almost never used.

    >It is always just better, even when Apple charges 3 times more for below average specs it is always just better.

    Who cares about specs?

Sure, most people in here and /r/oneplus and /r/android probably do.

But they don’t realize that specs are rather insignificant for how the device actually *feels* to use.

Take, for example, the OnePlus 5:

The Pixel 2 came out the same year. I still have a Pixel 2 as well, although I guess I won’t really need it now that I have a 3.

While on paper, the OnePlus device is far superior in just about every way (ram, battery capacity, camera mp, etc.), the OnePlus clearly stands out as a far less premium and refined product compared to the Pixel 2. I had a 3T before moving to the 5 and quickly resold the 5 after buying it new. Compared to the OP5 that my friend still has today, his screen now looks like garbage, software is buggy, battery is horrendous with both idle and active use, and the garbage vibration motor is just as garbage as it was at launch.

With the Mix 2S and Pixel Experience, despite the name of the rom, you simply don’t get the same experience as you do with an actual pixel.

Comparing the 2S to the Pixel 3, or even the 2, while so far the battery and software has held up, GCam ports are still far from as good as the Pixel camera despite the Mi8/F1/Mix 2S/Mix 3 all using the exact same sensor as the Pixel 3.

And the difference in vibration motors going from the 2S to the P3 is huge in how much more it makes the Pixel feel **enjoyable** to use.

As someone who uses an Xs as their main phone, I wouldn’t say it’s a bad deal at all. With actually premium hardware design with software support that will last longer than any Xiaomi phone, if I were to get 2 Xiaomi flagships, which would cost around what the Xs costs now (ex. the Mix 3 this year and the 5? in 2021), I’d have two phones with high end specs, but that doesn’t translate to a quality/premium user experience. Especially considering these phones do cut costs somewhere – the 1080p LCD on my 2S looks worse to me than the 750p LCD on my iPhone 8.

So while yes, on paper, you don’t get anywhere near as much value, the actual user experience isn’t comparable just based on having the latest and greatest Snapdragon. Even within Xiaomi phones, the Mix 2S feels far more premium to use than something like the Pocophone.

Fair enough, let’s cut this here, you have your ideas and I have mine, just fine this way. One final word: even though that I agree that yes, Apple A12 is indeed on par with top Snapdragon SoCs and yes I also agree that indeed Apple software UPDATES are excellent, I don’t entirely agree witb everything you just posted.

Except those upgrades aren’t that great.

I had the iPhone 5S. When it updated to iOS 11, it got much slower (even with animations lagging and stuttering, something that didn’t ever happen before) and I didn’t even get any relevant new features. Newer models did get new cool stuff.

Worse than that, you can’t revert to a previous iOS version or install a “custom ROM”. So you are stuck with your phone functioning worse than the day before just because, and you can’t do anything.

This isn’t just me. There were tons of people complaining on the iPhone subreddits at that time with the same issue.

I then changed tha iPhone for a cheap Redmi 4X and wow, it just kicked its ass.

My iPad 3 also got unusable after a while and then they stopped supporting it. Even after factory reset, just plain iOS with nothing installed was slow. And there was nothing I could do. So there is that.

Apple updates aren’t so great and smooth as many people think.

Edit: Wow, downvoted for reporting a first-hand experience. Stay classy, Reddit.

I actually lost mine,it was a good phone indeed overall. All these issues with the software and it’s lack of updates though made me say “go to hell”

It even frustrated me after I lost it.Find Mi Phone worked shit, despite I had it activated.

Based on that experience I wouldn’t go back to Mi,even though I like many of their products and I think is the best from the Chinese bunch. The problem imo is that because they release so many phones,a big number of them end up like R4P.(Redmi 3s,3Pro,Redmi 4).I hope they got better cause in my case support was horseshit.

Things like which type of proccessor, how many ram, storage, screen, camera, they all secondary to the them. They don’t care which type of proccessor the iPhone have, but they will know and feel that it would be a good one. Same goes with other technical specifications.

I have the opposite opinion. Everytime I got involved in jailbreaking I found it extremely messy.

Even a simple system update can revert the jailbreak, so you have to keep your device without security updates just have it jailbroken. Bad.

Also, for new iOS versions it can take months until a sploit is found and a jailbreak method is made available.

Other important thing to me is that all the needed tools for rooting (TWRP, Magisk) are open source. For jailbreaking, AFAIK, you need to trust proprietary code.

Rooting to me seems more straightforward and, besides that, you don’t need to root your Android to do many things a jailbreak offers, so it isn’t even fair to compare both.

    Edit: Typo

Well that’s basically true.A chips are the best, they always have been.
A10 Fusion in iPhone 7/7plus still beats many 2018-2019 phones.Definitely beats every series 600\700 processors by Qualcomm.

Apple used 4gb ram in iPhone XS for the first time.Til then it was 2 with the exception of 3 in the iPhone X.
Still they never had any issues with performance(apart from iOS 11)when Samsung and others struggled with 4/6/8 gb.

They have the best DAC by far.Audio latency is non existent,so their phones can even be used even for serious music production.Full audio/midi compatible with thousand of apps made by companies like Moog,Akai,Roland,Korg etc…

They still are the best video recorders.Photos are also amongst the best.

Their screens are simply the best LCD you can get and easily kills many OLED I have seen. They are known for their colour accuracy and vibrancy. Not that they are the best of all, there are better ones there today, still they are some of the best.

On the other hand, try to think of an Android phone with a quad core processor clocked on 2ghz,2 gb RAM,LCD screen and a 12 mpxl camera and put it next to an iPhone 7 which carries almost the same specs.

Again, you’re talking about technical spec. To most of us here, that might be interesting and meaningful, but to most of Apple customer, that doesn’t mean anything. Apple is not playing in the realm of facts and logic, they play in the realm of feeling and emotions. And you know what, most of people’s purchase decision is based on emotion and not logic.

Redmi Note 3 (kenzo) was released in February 2016 and support ended back in January. That’s just under 3 years.

Basically yes just burn the Linux iso to a usb. Change the boot order in the bios so the USB boots First. Most user friendly Linux distros like Ubuntu, manjaro, mint have graphical installers just like Mac and windows. You don’t need a PC persay and you can try Linux on a Mac but PC hardware will give you better performance. Just make sure you have installed gpu and Vulkan drivers and wine dependencies installed follow the instructions here https://github.com/lutris/lutris/wiki/How-to:-DXVK Check protondb for compatible games https://www.protondb.com and lutris for getting windows games working through wine outside if steam like Uplay origin etc https://lutris.net

I don’t see how this publication do Xiaomi any good.

    >Although new camera is better on paper (and there’s actually 2 cameras in the back) I didn’t notice any difference compared to the iPhone 6.

Cool story. iPhone 6 doesn’t even have OIS.

    >Processor (on the paper) is also faster on iPhone XS Max than on Mi Max 3, but you don’t notice it normal use.

SD 636 will be destroyed in side by side comparison.

I use a Xiaomi Mi8 and I love it, and I came from an iPhone 8 Plus that I left in a cab. However, every time I want to take a video and have the phone record any sort of music with above average volume, the Xiaomi is just horrendous and I wish I had my iPhone back.

It is the trade offs we have to make for paying way less, but some people just cannot deal with functions that just do not work very well. I do not even bother taking IG stories or videos when I am out or at concerts anymore, the video sound is truly pathetic.

Part of Apple’s software philosophy has *always* been to optimize hardware synergy.

What do you think to the Mi 9 SE? I’d get the Mi 9 but I don’t think I’d like the size of it. So I am thinking of getting the SE.

I can recommend you the website kimovil. It’s a very good site where you can compare almost EVERY smartphone there is on the market. But yes for sure I think all newer xiaomi smartphones are doing great job bc they all have Sony cameras build in. So they have to be good and the xiaomi software is also pretty good
