This isnt the first time it wont be the last
Thank God, somebody gets it!
They brag about being a tech superpower(and actually they are),still, they act like Apple wannabes for some weird Chinese reason.
Meh a phone is a rectangle with a screen, only so much you can do
Too bad, cause they do certain things better than their idols.
/s?
At least they didn’t steal the pricetag
Not at all. I said that because the only comments I see in this sub are people actually praising the ‘new’ design language of Xiaomi and only a handful actually against it.
They can avoid the price tag precisely because they steal lol.
I respect your opinion but in my own, I absolutely despise that design. Hated it on the iPhone, hate it on all the Xiaomi phones that possess it. I’m actually fine with the notch because it doesn’t bring anything bad. Yep, that’s why opinion.
H
Everybody copyright everybody, so what? Ahah
Every single smartphone is a clone of the original Apple design. There is no getting past that. Smartphones as they are would not have existed without Jobs and the iPhone 1.
However, Apple is now behind the curve.
Apple steals too and theyhave overpriced phones.
> Every single smartphone is a clone of the original Apple design.
Not true at all, LG was the firt company to release a phone with a capacitive screen.
Oh for sure. Industry takes whatever is the most efficient method of doing things. But you can’t deny that Xiaomi saved alot by not doing huge R&D and risky decisions.
Resolution isn’t everything. They are still one of the best displays in the market. Infact they are called the best LCDs in the market.
Edit: Thanks for all the downvotes. Next time come up with a better argument. Only thing that makes a display great is its resolution. Colour accuracy, contrast & brightness are nothing. SMH. http://www.displaymate.com/iPhone7_ShootOut_1.htm
To be fair, SE was still a decent phone. And the Apple tax was pretty standard there lol. 360 euro for SE vs 530 euro for 6s.
From essential?
Look who fell for the marketing meme.
Everything is a copy of everything. Take a peek at the gaming industry.
Maybe be the first to invent a triangle phone just like the one in the office? Practical? Not by a long shot. Original? Hell yeah.
I’m on my last iPhone and when it kicks the bucket I’m long gone. The software stability went right out of the window, problems left and right (battery issue and mine wasn’t covered) and getting music on it is a torment.
then promptly took a crap by copying the notch from the IPX
I fucking hate the notch regardless of who came up with it first and who’s blatantly emulating it. It’s a shitty design that brings no benefits to end users. Xiaomi is making a mistake by blindly following this trend.
This comic is shit, though. When did Xiaomi ever claim to have invented the notch design?
Lastly, if anyone truly thinks Apple is the only original phone manufacturer and doesn’t lift ideas from others, they’re completely deluded.
hype? I’d say revolution.
To everyone who thinks Mi8 is a copy of IPX, i would like to ask how on earth would you find place for all those front cameras and sensor you need for 3D face recognition
You know they buy them right?
At least they made Trans Back
I hate the notch
I would suggest that there were others, before the Mi Mix. And that particular device was hardly bezzelless was it really ?
Before that there was the IBM Simon.
To be honest, Apple really made smartphones work the way they still do today, with easy downloadable apps, and the full capacitive screen working the way it still does.
A smartphone has become a commodity, and Apple continues to charge a lot of money for a phone that’s hardly ahead of the rest anymore.
As for copying design, this is the greatest form of flattery in the Asian world, the outrage is a typical Western way of looking at things.
That being said, I bought A Redmi 5, and borrowed my redmi 4x to a friend that wrecked his iPhone 7. He got an iPhone 8 in exchange for it, and now comes the funny part…
He likes the Xiaomi better, and has offered me his brand new iPhone 8 because he wants to keep my 4X. We customised the software to his liking, now he doesn’t want to give it back.
Yulin dog festival for the curious.
to be fair.. after sharp, xiaomi was the first one with a bezeless design and I think they are the ones who skyrocketed the trend.
Make fullsized top bar, perhaps?
Transparent back copied from HTC.
In this case you are right but they did innovate with the Mix line.
Xiaomi lost my respect. This design is disgusting and stupid.
You may be right on one count, however I would say apple are the ones that SKYROCKETED the trend.
It started with MIUI.
>I don’t know why you’re being downvoted
What else do you expect? This is r/Xiaomi
“Muh specs. Muh value. Muh bang for your buck.”
Have a look at [this video comparison](https://youtu.be/LSI0i9R-y00) between A1 & iPhone SE since they were similarly priced in India at the time this video came out. Now people will ask why did I buy A1 then instead of SE.
i)I can’t stand iOS.
ii) Too small
Rest everywhere it is much better from brand value to after sales service to software updates.
Different region different food preference. How does your eating beef is justified? Same logic goes there are other regions which love cows as much as dogs just like you. Western hypocrisy at its peak. Live and let live dude.
Sorry, but that’s been around for a while too. It can be seen on both LG and Samsung phones.
Edit: And on HTC, as @arun_kp mentioned.
Hence why it cost more.
No. Plenty of bezelless phones came before the iPhone X.
Stop butchering cows, pigs, lambs, chickens, etc…
that notch…why god…why?!
if people are against the notch, i’m happy to take it off them for free 🙂
Sharp Aquos had the MI Mix design first, as in no bezels on the top or sides, no cutouts, but a fat chin.
Besides bezels have been getting smaller for years and people have been asking for smaller bezels for many years too, the hypes been there for ages. It’s not like suddenly 1 company(xiaomi mi mix to you) was like “hey what if we tried making the bezels really small??”. Like even the Galaxy S8 has less bezel than the iPhone X and people don’t even see the Galaxy S8 as a bezelless phone. The iPhone X probably isn’t even in the top 10 of smallest bezels.
Why? I mean its just one phone model that has a notch
I don’t like the notch :/ at least MIUI 10 ota update is on the horizon
**O2 Xda**
The O2 Xda brand was a range of Windows Mobile PDA phones, marketed by O2, developed by O2 Asia and manufactured by multiple OEMs (mainly HTC, Quanta and Erima). The first model was released in June 2002. The last models came to market in 2008.

Because it doesn’t look good.
I had the SE, sold after 3 months to go back to my Mi 5 because of iOS. But yeah, it’s a good value, it performs really well and is very reliable. Battery life was good enough, too. I prefer small phones, so I loved the size
Yeah but Xiaomi has other models? I only care about their redmi series rn
1- Xiaomi did borderless before Apple.
2- Essential did the notch before Apple.
3- Smartphones makers don’t make their components. They buy the SoC i.e from Qualcomm or MediaTeK, APN from Sony, Leica… Same applies to the screens. This is why even low end phones are going borderless/with a notch: because the facturies only do these kind of screens now. So “thanks to” Apple, smartphones makers don’t have the choice.
And then get called copy of Samsung? Or worse get asked where the innovation is?
skyrocketed doesnt mean when you learned about it or usa.. china does support xiaomi and other brands same with Europe.
Don’t tell me they’re putting a notch on the phone. DON’T TELL ME FML
They made the camera array look the same as the iPX.
The marketing was almost 100% copied too.
They didn’t have to make it look almost exactly the same, but they did.
Totally agree. I’m an avid android user, and have been nodding since overclocking was still a thing. Now I have a private moto g5 plus (damn useful for the price) and a 6s for work. I’ve started just installing games on the 6s. Dear lord, that thing flies. I hate the OS, but the hardware is damn fine. And they can be bought still, at prices that actually make them somewhat comparable to cheaper droids.
Yeah, and why still have that phone functionality? It’s 2018! Where’s the innovation??
I’m sorry. Should we tell them, guys?
What phones came before the iphone x, With a bigger screen to body ratio ?
Let me explain exactly where i am coming from, when i say ‘skyrocketed’ ……Others may have made nearly bezzelless phones before apple. But when the iphone x came out, apple did what apple does best. They sold absolutely millions upon millions of devices. No other company has that sort of pulling power. Hence in this context i use the work skyrocketed as the sales apple has achieved.
The thing is that how can a smartphone with a notch look very different in its design language than an iphone x? The ix does not have a complex design so its easy to create something that looks very similar.
Having the notch offers more screen estate. In fact you can hide it and just display the phone status on the notched area. That way you have more screen left for content to be displayed so i dont see how a notch is that bad.
You can make the argument both ways that the notch is adding screen real estate or taking it away. The original Mi Mix and the current Samsung flagships are examples of good design to maximize screen real estate without resorting to a compromised notch design.
The S8
No, but essential was the first to do the notch, at least I believe that is the case.
Well, it started, but that was improvement above Sharp Aquos, actually. They did it first.
To have a bit more screen up top?
Not really sure how you can argue it’s taking away screen space unless companies use it as an excuse not to push for a smaller bezel up top. It’s less of a notch and more 2 bits of extra screen that protrude into the top bezel.
Take away the notch and suddenly you have extra screen space. There’s plenty of users who would take a small upper bezel over a notch.
How do you get extra screen space by “taking away” the notch. Where does the camera and microphone go.
They go where they’ve always gone: on the top or bottom bezel. Samsung has shown that you can do this without needing giant bezels.
Have you seen Mix 1 or 2? Those don’t have frame on top and don’t need the notch. The chin is the same.
Now we know how much iOS costs. +500 USD.
1. True
2. No one cares about essential. The company that sold barely any phones that has now abandoned the project. To 90% of the world, Apple made the notch first, because they sure as hell made it popular. You really think other Android OEMs were copying Essential when they put the notch in their phones?!
3. Absolutely bullshit. Apple buys their displays from Samsung. Not many OEMs can afford to purchase Samsung displays. You just pulled this point out of your ass.
No one cares who did it first, people only remember who made it popular. Apple may not have been first to make a touch screen, but you can’t deny they revolutionalised the smartphone industry.
To be fair every single Android OEM is copying that shitty notch
I fucking hate the notch
well according to the Wiki article on xiaomi, Lei Jun started dressing up like Jobs, releasing phones that look like apple devices, using steve’s phrases like “one more thing…” before unveiling the final product, and using marketing tactics like Apple does.
Also, I don’t think Xiaomi said they are making their own design. They blatantly copy apple’s design.
You were supposed to defeat the Sith, not join them.
That has little to do with iPhone design. I was there when the iPhone released (and got one). It was radically different to anything available at the time. There was no comparison. And every single smart phone has aped it’s design and premise since.
Fair enough, too.
i was hoping they would adopt mi mix no notch design on the new mi 8 but no… /:
apple expected to sell a lot of units and instead of this they didn’t come up close to 1/3 of that number.. People bought iphone x because it is apple and the most expensive model available. Also I can’t say it is exactly bezeless.
Anyway clearly apple didn’t contribute to this trend, except to their own fanbase.mi mix was thenone that really contributed to a wider community.. I am not a xiaomi fanboy at all saying this.
If you think that apple did not contribute, you are clearly delusional.
Oh and Apples iPhone X was the highest selling single device for the last three quarters. Please Google it. And I am not a apple fanboy either.
Okay my friend I wasn’t saying that non had come before. I really was just asking the question.
it didnt with the bezeless design..it did with the notch, even though it wasnt the first one.
I ain’t saying that apple were the first, or the best or anything like that. I am simply saying that with the power of the company, when they implement something whether they were first.or not. Others follow.what they do, meaning they influence others with the power they have.
Most companies don’t even need the notch, apple employs the fantastic face ID feature. Others seem to put the notch there to simply look like the iPhone, hence that is apples power.
D: I read all the comments, this is sad. I actuallythought Xiaomi would bypass this because they made the mi mix bezelless phone which is just WAY BETTER than the notch design. WHY.
What about the Essential phone?!?
no one else seems to have pointed this out, but why is the word “made” edited in here when the original comic has it?
edit: seriously. if you see this comment and have the answer to this, reply to it or PM me. this haunts me at night.
