If it doesn’t look like iPhone it is either:
1. An old fashioned phone from the 2000 age.
2. Used by an Android dev that does not want to use Android simulator all the time.
20 mp front cam 12 mp back camera, what the hell is that. why not 20 mp back
It’s because in China if a phone looks like an iPhone it will sell better
I want xiaomi, not a cheap iphone knock off. smh
They are even copying the UI with miui 10. This is comedy.
Why don’t you google what you write first? Essential Phone was announced on May 30, 2017. And isn’t this just proving my entire point?
Exactly what apple is NOT ABLE to do. Why does the IPhone 10 sell so bad? Cause everyone wants the FP Reader cause its just more convenient. Will they ever bring it back im future models? Sute as hell not.
A dumb political analogy that ignores all the nuances of both for sake of… I don’t know.
This is what I came here to say. It’s a rectangle with a screen. How much variation is *actually possible*? If you stray from the glowing rectangle design (aka Blackberry), you end up at the bottom of the heap.
Another way to look at it, think of a t-shirt. Nike and Kelvin Klein both make a t-shirt. Nobody argues over who copied who. It’s a t-shirt, the design makes sense.
**It’s a glowing rectangle. Who cares if they all look the same.**
That.
What a surprise, copying Apple for the 9th time! (iPad, too)
Xiaomi with the Mi8 event became the Trump of the Android world.
Agreed!
I’d rather get the Mix 2 for $345.99 and be free from a cloud of overbearing shame-fullness.
Yup
You buy Xiaomi and care about overbearing shame-fullness? You buy Xiaomi if you care about value for money, not any other sentimental BS.
Dont exactly see how smartphones these days can be original and not copy one another.
they are all a rectangle touchscreen slate trying to maximise screen space.
The Huawei P20 looks just as much the same as an iphone x, any phone that has a notch can.
Tbh I would be more surprised if they didnt copy the iPhone X.
They are copycats and I dont really mind. They offer enough value and that is what most people care about.
I dont buy a Mi phone cus I want the best features and have money to spend, no im cheap and want good value.
And because they are copycats they were the first to offer a high display/bory-ratio with the mi mix, right?
just like google LUL
They’re hardly the first and Mi Mix is a copycat. We love Xiaomi here but don’t be blind.
Mi Mix 2 has a speaker
This is exactly why Xiaomi succeeds.
Xiaomi mocked its competitors for doing something: [https://www.reddit.com/r/Xiaomi/comments/8o7vzb/sorry\_xiaomi\_vol2/](https://www.reddit.com/r/Xiaomi/comments/8o7vzb/sorry_xiaomi_vol2/)
Then proceeded to announce two new products, one of which is a complete ripoff of one of its competitors even down to some of its main features like Face unlock and Animated Emojis and an aesthetic that has more than a passing resemblance, even down to the camera placement.
They mock their competitors, and then blatantly rip them off.
I like a lot of Xiaomi products, I use them daily but their shamelessness and lack of imagination is one of the most off\-putting aspects about it.
In a time where most of Xiaomi’s competitors are making efforts to make innovative new cameras, challenge budget/performance and add new design features to stand out Xiaomi put their focus and efforts into ripping off Apple in their flagship product.
What’s even more frustrating is that they’ve proven they can make great looking original designs \(like the Mix\) when they want to. The Mi5 was also one of their best designs aesthetically and I absolutely love mine but with Mi 8 they just don’t care about how blatantly they are ripping off other company’s ideas and aesthetic.
I compared them to Trump because he criticized his critics or political adversaries for doing certain things and then doubled\-down on doing the very same thing he criticized his adversaries for in an even worse manner.
The Mi 8 could have been a solid budget offering that showed Xiaomi’s strength in the same way the past Mi phones did but instead it’s a low effort Android clone of the iPhone X with an iOS style skin pasted on top of it.
For people living in Asia the Mi 8 is still a very solid mid\-range offering, for me, it’s a bad\-looking device that feels like a huge step back from the Mix aesthetically that is unoriginal and rips off Apple unapologetically and as someone who appreciated the company and thought they were going in a positive direction after the Mi5 and Mix, I’m disappointed.
I love the mix line but see it more as..xiaomi got there first.
probably was inevitable before a smartphone company made a “pure screen” phone
That’s happening with every company out there. Google and Apple are doing this all the time. ([example](https://www.cultofmac.com/506353/mocking-iphone-7-google-follows-suit/))
But they offer a alternative (The Mi Mix 2)
Nothing sentimental about a notch being butt fugly.
Baaaahahahaa!! Excellent point
TBF they also created the Mi Mix 2s and Mix 2 and Mix 1. They’re all tri\-bezel\-less so its not like Mi doesn’t have a long line of many different phones.
yeah but the notch is like having nipple cut-outs on your t-shirt
i thought improvements meant making it smaller
like i said in other post, everybody copy, everybody…
for example, the notch cames from ESSENCIAL phone, and apple \(i guess\) just improve the notch ;\)
Google it.
Essencial Phone launch date? August 2017
iPhone X launch date? October 2017
Even OnePlus did the same with their sync app icon at the launch of 5t and straightway got the notch on their next phone
> Dont exactly see how smartphones these days can be original and not copy one another.
The Mix line is quite original. I have a Mix2 and I can’t undesrtand why other manufacturers outsoide of china aren’t copying the design. I have 0 problems with the front camera being on the boton, are people taking that many vertical selfies that it becomes a problem? Having “no bezel” at the top gives the phone an incredible feel.
I dont know why this gets downvoted everytime it’s mentioned. The notch did come from the essential phone.
Yep same goes for Huawei fuck the notch
The audio sounds fine to me on my Mi Mix.
Hey, b00yeh, just a quick heads-up:
**definately** is actually spelled **definitely**. You can remember it by **-ite- not –ate-**.
Have a nice day!

I have the original mix. I dont see why they haven’t added a feature where the phone could operate as normal, upside-down.
There’s no buts,
they followed a design choice that they mocked in the past.
Let’s just say that coherence isn’t one of their strong suits.
Couldn’t agree more but this is China…
Cause people are lazy as f*** to Google for the launch dates, and see that Essential phone comes on August 2017 and iPhone X comes October 2017.
Essential having the notch first is not an argument. That company is not even close to relevant in the grand scheme of things.
Well the mi mix was nice, but you can be a copycat and innovate at the same time.
I have Mi Mix. I’d prefer a slot in the screen compared to this kinda awful in call audio.
> The notch did come from the essential phone.
So you are saying four months before Apple released iPhone X. They saw the innovative notch and decided to copy it and manufactured millions of phones after that. Ye, sounds legit.
Like this and like that, uh huh
I do agree with this regarding the notch (despite popular opinion). However taking away the jack is not a practical thing which they also started doing after apple.
This being said, I love the Mi8 and MIUI 10 looks sick
The Sharp Aquos Crystal was the first bezel-less phone that had almost no bezels on left, right, top edges and put the camera in the chin. Even though Xiaomi did it better the design is a copy.
Not really. Sharp was first, but not so widespread.
Apple: a mould-selling company that makes phones as a hobby
last year they were simply saying that the MiMix had far less bezels.
The Mi8 isn’t in the same family category
We’re going to build a great, great wall to keep the stock Android users out
I’d be fine with no front camera, I barely use it.
