Remove bloatware from your device!

  • 0
  • 0

I know that you get what you pay for, that is what most people will say to you.

Today I learned how to remove bloatware completely from your phone. at first, I thought that there were only some apps, I was able before to disable some but not all, but this method is the best I ever tried.

Today too I realized how much unnecessary apps are in MI UI that you can get rid of.

And the phone is already more responsive (MI 10 t pro), I had some issues with notifications, with pip and most of them are gone now.

Take a look here: [https://szaki.github.io/XiaomiADBFastbootTools/](https://szaki.github.io/XiaomiADBFastbootTools/)

Those are the apps that I removed you can remove more or less: [https://imgur.com/a/wervASY](https://imgur.com/a/wervASY)

And just be aware that removing some apps can make your phone unstable some said it worked fine, some didn’t, so here is a link of what every app is doing : [https://selivan.github.io/2020/02/25/removing-bloatware-from-xiaomi-miui-android.html](https://selivan.github.io/2020/02/25/removing-bloatware-from-xiaomi-miui-android.html)

EDIT 01 : for 32 bit version [https://bell-sw.com/pages/downloads/](https://bell-sw.com/pages/downloads/) use +11 version.

For what is left after i did this : [https://imgur.com/a/KMftviv](https://imgur.com/a/KMftviv)

Yeah mine’s the same. The only things I really want to remove are the traces of Facebook.

    no

edit : in fact i’m not sure, depends on what you think you really not gonna use.

It’s probably not worth the time and effort as xiaomi.eu rom is already “light”

The space freed is most likely from the app cache/data, not from the apk deletion.

I’ve reinstalled the app called “share me” yesterday – ~~it said exactly “enable”~~ yep, i’m in the wrong here. I’ve “deleted” it with adb xiaomi tools.

I’ll provide screenshots later when will have access to the pc.

Be careful though since debloating some modules can downgrade your phone to widevine L3 in Netflix

Well, I reinstalled Mi Calendar.. I have no clue why the Time/Clock was wrong. This is something I will try as well.. as I am using it a lot.

Google Calendar is super nice, such as Simple Calendar .

    Try those out.

I was thinking of doing this for my Mi 10t for a long time, thank you for giving me the push!

I did it after reading this post haha. Although I have a question for you.

What do you use to replace the Mi video? I can’t use the slow-motion option now, which was built-in in Mi video, so I had to re-install it. I hate it, but only using it for the slomo.

Ok Here is the apps I have left right now (from a Redmi Note 6Pro)
    https://prnt.sc/10ro6mv

Those apps cannot be uninstalled, I disabled them – – no issue so far.

    – Mi Browser
    – Mi Calendar
    – Mi Video
    – Music
    – Weather

Do you have in mind other things I can delete , please.

On my phone screen, I still have:

    – Themes
    – MIUI Forum
    – Mi Community
    – Mi Remote
    – Netflix
    – Facebook (still here…)
    – Download (still need it I believe)
    – Sim Toolkit

Im aware that the app gives you “uninstall” tab, but as I said – it simply disables the app via pm unistall for user 0 command.

The apps are still on the phone, you can check it yourself by google play – it will say “enable” instead of “install”.

The adb tool DOES NOT give you root access. For root your phone needs to be unlocked and rooted.

Please don’t spread misinfromation, and do some research beforehand.

I am just happy to not have broken my old Redmi Note6Pro, feel confident, will discover Custom Rom

I stand corrected on the enable in google play part, even though I remember enabling them (maybe on my old mi5).

Anyway, my other points still stand. You may notice, if you actually press “install” – the app doesn’t get downloaded. It gets enabled, and after that it cant be deleted – only updates get deleted, like they do for system apps, and it restores the preinstalled version.

Also notice, that when you “uninstall” apps through xiaomi tools – the actual apks are still on the phone – they don’t get backupped anywhere on the PC. They are all STORED on the phone, just get hidden for user 0. You may check it by connecting your “debloated” phone with another PC with xiaomi tools – all your “uninstalled” apps will be in the “uninstalled” tab..

Real debloating by deleting the actual APK’s on the system partition on a non-rooted phone is sadly not an option, but “pm uninstall –user 0”, which disables the system app and hides it, is a great option we have.

Every time I see people removing “bloatware”, the majority of the apps leftover are just google apps.

I mean sure, if you don’t like Xiaomi apps because you have no use for them, then by all means remove them but they aint bloat to me. Each one has a very unique use in China.

In all fairness, I find google apps as bloat cause they never work as intended in China.

bit off topic, what happens if you tap on the date on notification bar, after you disabled Mi Calendar? (looking to replace it with google’s, but might not be possible) (by default it loads xiaomi calendar, even if you have defaulted to another calendar)

That’s not what you said, thus misleading:

    > Today I learned how to remove bloatware completely from your phone.

It doesn’t completely remove the apps from your phone.

    >The adb tool give you root access to your phone

The ADB tool does not give you root access. Installing the root, and then using su through adb shell does though.

    > More technical details are not useful here.

Can’t agree. These bits of disinfromation make people think they do something else than they actually do, and its usefull to know.

    > they are removed

No, they are not. They get hidden.

I’ll expand a little more. I got in this exact misinformation trap myself, thinking they got deleted. But the actual android dev explained the real things about this “deletion” to me.

The eu version doesn’t have bloatware \[If you don’t count google\].

But on the international that I got here is xiaomi answer to every google app. Mi video, mi drive, mi notes, mi browser.

So people try to get rid of those apps, some for security some for space and speed.

    \[My english sucks without auto-correction so ignore that}

Nah, it happens with .exe files too. Basically any executable from a source that isn’t trusted.

    >here is the list

There are still few apps indeed who can be removed, aren’t you looking for alternative ?

I just bought a Redmi Note 10 Pro and MIUI Global 12.5.1 cross-referenced safe-to-remove bloatware with a couple of lists on blogs. Here’s my final loadout and is working fine (rebooted once to check).

Ok this is to remove bloatware, but wouldn’t be useful to root, install a rom ? I am thinking about GrapheneOS, sadely I have read it compatible with Pixel phones. Which other OS do I have ?

June 2022 Are these lists and Github link still good to follow? (I see a warning Github link is not maintained anymore, but if it worked then it’ll work now right?)

TBF it’s very region dependent. I had a Poco X3 NFC for a bit here in the UK, and I barely found any bloatware on the device. It came with the stock Google dialer, the stock Google messages app etc. There weren’t even any dodgy proprietary games preinstalled, just Facebook, TikTok, and some word processing app.

This is pretty cool stuff but my 9T Pro works like a charm without having to fiddle with anything tbh.

Thanks. I wasn’t expected much as most of those apps have not the same amount of storage as a videogame.

    > Today I learned how to remove bloatware completely from your phone.

Its sad to see the misconception that the method in the post really deletes anything/frees space.

No, the method does not uninstall anything, it simply DISABLES the apps for user 0.

While in the end it does the required thing of turning the bloatware off, the apps are still on the phone and can be enabled at any time (for example, via play store, if the app is present there).

The only method of true deletion is still via root, get your facts straight.
