Could be the Redmi Note 5 Pro?
Edit: shit I meant Redmi Note 7 Pro.
no ofcourse not what are you even talking about redmi note 5 had SD 636 and it is like 15 months old.
I’m sleepy af, I meant Redmi Note 7 Pro
but why? I thought the whole idea behind separating the redmi, mi and poco series was to differentiate their desired groups of customers from each other. MI could’ve the flagship part, phones with the latest tech and design, POCO with the lower prices but still flagship hardware, and redmi the budget-oriented customers who like the best bang for their buck.
A redmi phone at 350 usd might as well be called MI or Poco
oh boy sign me in
Nah. Pro will most likely be 710 snap. They likely create new Redmi name for the flagship to associate it with highest end. Also 855 is unlikely to be ready by Feburary. First phone with 855 is usually Samsung S10 and that will be announced end of Febuarary.
They differentiated so that Redmi line could have everything from flagship to midrange and low range. Ability to sell flagship Redmi will make them much more revenues, especially as in India Mi line is nonexistent basically, while everyone has Redmis. You have to look at their brands from the countries they target.
Poco wants to differentiate on community support and custom ROMs. Hardware is just part of it.
Mi series, Mix series, pocophone and now a redmi flagship? How many flagship phones does xiaomi plans to release?
Should buy this or Xiaom’s next flagship Mi 9 ?
Fair enough. I’m looking forward to that and to the Mi Mix 4 as well.
If this is actually a thing and it has NFC, it’ll be hard for me to resist.
yeah pro will be 675 or 710 at best
Funny how xiaomi is “abusing” the snapdragon flagship processor hype like there wouldn’t be any other component in a phone which makes it good. They act like the kid who reads the article titles only.
What’s the new brand called for the good old 100-150 dollar phones?
But the Redmi might have a headphone jack (fingers crossed)
redmi X please
> redmi note 5 had SD 636 and it is like 15 months old.
What are you on about? It was announced in February last year
Two. Since only Mi and Mix is under Xiaomi. This is the reason why they did what they did
very nice specs if it has a full range of US Carrier frequencies
All I need is an Android one series.
I’d love that too but having just visited China I’ve realised the problem. This place runs on qr codes, nfc just isn’t used here. Even the NFC based metro in Shenzhen has been updated to add qr readers to all the turnstiles. I think I’m going to have to look elsewhere for affordable NFC support unfortunately.
Realme and Zenfone
Flagship Redmi with custom ROMs sign me Up
The cpu, gpu, dsp,bt,gps, phone modem etc are all snapdragon and 1SoC with enough newer or refined features to deliver a fresh and more powerful experience on every upgrade cycle
..that’s why SD ftw!
That’s pricier than the POCO F1 and the POCO brand was established to make flagship specs affordable while the Redmi series has always been about best value to performance in the mid-range segment. Putting a flagship chipset into a Redmi device will only give Xiaomi excuses to increase the pricing of the flagship Mi series
Daamn redmi gat no chill
Make one with a camera that isn’t meh.
As if their product line wasn’t confusing enough… Lol
This is not a justification. Xiaomi no longer sells in China forcing us to import our phones through GearBest and flashing a custom modified MIUI that works globally afterwards, Xiaomi probably has a store in the nearest big city to you and, if it doesn’t yet, it will soon. They are selling locally and they are getting about as widespread as Huawei/Honor devices. Let’s face it, Xiaomi is no longer the niche brand Android enthusiasts only know about. A few years ago rocking a Xiaomi phone was a statement that you were a geek, nowdays that is not true anymore, because they are selling globally and these phones are mainstream.
Xiaomi needs to realize just how big their new target audience is and adapt to their needs, before someone else (Nokia, perhaps?) does. As an Italian customer, NFC is a make-or-break feature for me. I don’t care how good the phone you’re presenting to me is it it does not have features that I need, I would rather opt for an inferior phone from a competitor that does have the features I need.
You got it. It’s exactly what is happening. In the meantime, yet another time, [TechAltar’s words are proving to be true](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJgTKx-rg18). “Enthusiast” brands have an unsustainable model and they will either die a nice cool enthusiast brand or live long enough to become a big brand, competing with the likes of Nokia, Huawei/Honor, Samsung, Google and Apple. And, fortunately for Xiaomi, this is what we’re seeing play out. Xiaomi finally has decent market share. Xiaomi is also being recognized and socially accepted as a normal brand: if a few years ago rocking a Xiaomi phone in the wild was a statement that you were a geek, nowdays it might just as well be a statement that you went to your carrier’s store and picked up the phone that you liked the best from their showroom based on design alone.
Still, I do appreciate that their new budget products (Redmi Note 7, alleged Mi A3) appear to have even better value than ever before. Personally, I don’t care if Mi flagships get pricier because as much as I love Xiaomi I prefer spending flagship money on other brands that give me a software I like better (I’m understandbly too nervous to shell out €400+ for a phone and immediately unlock the bootloader and go flash an unofficial ROM), but, as long as their budget value phones stay where they are, do not get worse in quality and do not get pricier, I am happy this way.
Sounds cool.
You missed my point. Before global versions were a thing and before Spotify sold outside China and India officially, most of the world had to import their products – many times illegally, a staggering amount of people don’t do their research on importing Chinese products and inadvertently peruse illegal trade – if they wanted to use them. It was shitty because
1) You didn’t have a software that worked out of the box. MIUI still has a lot of issues, but if I get a Redmi Note now, I can set it up exactly like any normal phone and download my apps exactly like I would on any other phone, everything works. You didn’t even have the Play Store, or a consistent English translation back then!
2) Resellers suck. You had resellers ROMs loaded with malware on deck in a lot of cases, no official warranty and shitty after sale support
3) LTE bands were an issue which meant you were extremely limited in your choice of carriers if you wanted to get a Xiaomi (still holds true in the US)
Now where’s the excuse? You see Xiaomi phones on the subway and they’re easy to get. Heck, a few days ago I was at the supermarket and they had a freaking Mi A2 on display.
The entry bar for Xiaomi devices used to be very high (why does this subreddit exist?), now it’s as low as with any other manufacturer, is starting to get advertised as any other manufacturer, is getting as popular as any other manufacturer and it distributes through the same channels as any other manufacturer. Therefore, it cannot skimp on important features other manufacturers include in the package if they want to take over them. Xiaomi is in a weird transition phase where they don’t want to upset the original fans (many of which are leaving) too much, but at the same time they are growing and they want to appeal to their new, bigger, more profitable audience. They can’t stay in this bubble forever, they gotta change their business model and just go ahead and go mainstream. But for that to happen, they need to also improve quality-wise. It is why they’re making their designs more attractive l, at least trying to polish MIUI, pushing an Android One product…
In a lot of the world, now, you only import Xiaomi products if you’re feeling masochistic or you want to save up some money and are happy with going back to the high entry bar that once was
Mi 9 is the real mass-market flagship that gets all the Xiaomi marketing dollars, like the Galaxy S series.
The Redmi stuff sells on price alone, while the Mix series is for fans of experimental design. Pocophone is for India.
Called it!
