Ok, guys. We have a good news. Redmi Note 8 will use Snapdragon 665 (not only MTK).
+ More advanced 11nm process.
+ Third generation AIE engine, AI Great performance upgrades. pic.twitter.com/lCH489ZWE9— Xiaomishka (@xiaomishka) August 25, 2019
Also, here’s a new look at RN8. I think it looks nicer than it’s pro version. The camera looks promising!

What SD the Global version will have?
That’s cool that your opinion is that you like rear mounted, like I said I think they have their pros, I like them too. My opinion however is that the front is probably a better place overall for it for me, I work stood up over a desk whilst at work and it is much easier to unlock without having to pick it up or anything just to quickly read a message etc, it’s also easier to unlock whilst mounted in my car if need be, although face unlocking is even easier for this use. It’s more for easily and quickly unlocking and reading stuff than solely using whilst it’s lay down on a table for phone calls and texting etc.
I think I saw it should be out during September. They’ll probably confirm this on August 29th.
Can it do ultra-wide?
They do. It’s just slower. But since just the non-pro version’s got SD, it’ll be fine.
Does anyone have an idea when the Note 8will have A global version? Looking to replace my phone soon.
No they don’t, but it’s a selling point for them. Just like 48mp lenses.
No, 4800 means 48MP
A good sensor is better then 3 or 4
I think they should stay with SD
Probably not.
I understand that possibility but putting so much processor difference into note 8 series is a biggest absurd imaginable. Also there are a lot of people who think SD 660>665 and it’ll be hard time explaining them for Xiaomi because they’re quite the same.
Will the Helios be supported by the modding community? I know the Snapdragon version will be.
It’s an upgrade to Note 7, not for Note 7 pro. We don’t know which SDN we will see on the note 8 pro global version, but it will most likely be better than 665 and 675.
Remember this is a budget mid-ranger. Mediatek chips are probably way more expensive than SDN.
It’s good for people on a budget who only want a smooth and reliable experience.
This probably was their plan all along, they simply didn’t announce it before.
It most likely will be announced. I think Mediatek will only stay in Asian markets, for global ones it will probably be SDN.
Or wait for the Pro with Snapdragon to be announced
I have no issues with the one on my Mi9.
On the global ROM it was bad, but switching to Xiaomi.eu it’s flawless
For the average user, the don’t care for the SoC. There are a lot more of these average users than tech enthusiasts.
The latter picture shows 4800mah!
Sneaky mother Fu****
I agree. I can’t complain about having a $150 phone with Snapdragon mid-range processor, 4(or 6) gigs of ram, expandable storage and headphone jack. Just look at LG offers at that price range and then tell me how Xiaomi is not offering the best bang of the buck.
Then how is this really an upgrade??
Also, the difference between, let’s say 0.8 seconds and 0.4 seconds is negligible.
I believe people tend to forget that redmi note line up is supposed to be for budget users. Phones that perform decently well at a low price. This phone will probably cost less than $200 or $250, so you can’t really complain. If people want a more premium phone with better chipsets, go for the Mi 9’s, those are part of Xiaomi’s flagship line up.
I was really happy when I heard this.
Well, you need to keep in mind that Redmi is mostly about being a budget phone brand, so they’re looking for the most value for money. I’d say 665 is not bad considering that this phone will probably cost less than USD$ 250.
Watch closely, it does have one.
You’d be lucky to get 10 hours
Whilst the scanners in screens aren’t as quick as back scanners, I think each have their pros and cons, for me, the back ones are quicker and slightly more reliable, yet with a front facing one I don’t have to first pick the phone up in the first place in order to place my finger on the sensor (as I keep my phone screen up whilst on a table etc), so overall I think the front is a better place for it, the tech just needs to fully mature
As long as we get miui.eu we are good
i would do the same but what concerns me is that non pro variants doesn’t have much development when compared with pro variants.
This doesn’t seem legit. Mediatek G90 is twice as powerful.
Through my experiences with mtk devices, yes, but it won’t be easy.
Hope they use something better in the Mi Pad 5 that they surely will be announcing on the 28th.
Redmi 7 pro has 675 ???
But will it be rootable?
It’s hard to tell as almost all battery tests includes some gaming. In most mixed usage tests it gets 7-7,5h SOT, so I assume with light usage it could be 8-9h maybe?
It has one, just not clearly visible. Zoom in if you can’t spot it.
They probably photoshopped it to hide it because that doesn’t seem natural to me.
Especially for what Xiaomi offers, it’s a steal. Now when I’m in Xiaomi world I understand why people have such a praise and their expectations build higher and higher. They need to remember that Xiaomi is capped with profit and they have limited resources, and they do a damn well job with it.
I had the Note 3 Pro, at the time it was far beyond what any company could offer as a mid-range. When it broke I switched to Mi 8 expecting a flagship “feel” but it broke after 4 months with no way to get a replacement, so now I’m waiting..
Good news👍
I don’t mind using Snapdragon 665, i’d rather have 665 and get OS support until Android S or T than have MTK G90T that stuck in Pie forever.
I was talking in the context of the note line up as I previously owned a note 5. All note phones will sell well as theyoffer good valuein almost all aspects, but they don’t excel at anything and feel mediocre.
With the note 8 specs, it should now be clear that the note series has obvious limitations by xiaomi.
Thanks..
Do you know how many hours of SOT the mi9t offers with wifi on and no games ? Does it reach 10 hours ?
Thank you Xiaomi for keeping snapdragon custom ROM user here can’t wait to see what the community does with this device.
IMO Mi9T will be much better choice than RN8, either MediaTek/Snapdragon version.
It has pretty powerful SD730, which even in worst scenario, would be slightly weaker than MTK G90T, but still having superior support, drivers quality, work culture.
And even in camera department, I bet RN8 will be noticeable worse, no matter how many MPixels they will put in (also, I trust Sony’s sensors much more than Samsung’s).
The only thing RN8 will have better is 4500mAh battery which combined with SD665 should have great battery life, better than Mi9T.
Note 7 was underwhelming? Isn’t it Redmi’s best seller?
Snapdragon 660 (Note 7) is faster that 665 by 10-15 percent CPU wise, and about the same GPU wise.
Probably better battery life and less throttling, same power
#YES YES YES YES YES YES
Will it retain its 4500 mAh battery? If so it could be a great battery champion phone
Basically better battery life but same performance as 660.
Pretty disappointing imo. But I bet they can’t put 675 because it’s far more expensive. It’s just a few months since RN7 Pro anyway. So, if you’re importing your phone, the ‘old’ RN7 Pro is still a far better value. If Xiaomi keep doing this, you should buy the ‘old’ Pro variant to get better value, since the price will drop down every time new Redmi releases.
And the performance gap between Redmi Note 8 and the Pro variant seems getting bigger than Redmi Note 7 vs the Pro variant.
I can afford the mi9t 6/128 but waited for the note 8 specs and reviews in the hopes it’s not underwhelming like the note 7 , and to save some money.
Do you now think the mi9t is a better buy ?
Very similar- AFAIR, SD665 has slightly less single core performance, but somehow slightly better multicore.
SD665 is slightly underclocked and made in better technological process (11nm vs 14nm), so IMO it’s a better chip, as SD660 was disappointing for me in terms of energy consumption.
Still, using old cores (especially over 5 years old Cortex A53), almost the same as RN 5, 6, 7 is disappointing.
Aaah haha
665 vs 660 how different these two chips perform?
But the op photo has no scanner on the back..
Totally agree. They are recycling the same, old cores for fourth Redmi Note generation now (5, 6, 7 and 8).
Xiaomi, Qualcomm, Cortex A55 is on the market for like 2 years now? Let Cortex A53 to go for retirement already.
The GPU. CPU is a little bit slower than the 730 (same a76 cores but clocked 10% lower).
No ROM development tho
They should have put SD 675 chipset in instead of 665
48MP->12MP, 64MP->16MP
mtk for the chinese version phones, sd for all other regions (global, eea, russia)
So they give us a choice:
Pretty strong, but shitty in all other terms MediaTek
or
Recycled Snapdragon with over 5 years old, obsolete cores, almost the same SoC as Redmi Note 5, 6, 7.
Nope, I will wait for Redmi Note 9 (I hope it will finally abandon Cortex A53 cores, and include 5000mAh battery) or buy phone from competition.
Bruh
Depends on the scenario,
Both are close enough to what i’ve seen to match them both around the same segment
Mediatek said its 24% faster. Idk if that’s true just saying.
I love how almost everyone on twitter can’t see the back fingerprint sensor and think the phone is gonna have an AMOLED.
hahaha did xiaomi changed their mind?
Except the G90T is on par with a Snapdragon 730.
The Mediatek chip is stronger than the snapdragon.
Meh the difference between 12mp – 48mp – 64mp is so minute it doesn’t really affect most people.
Pro has 64mp camera tho
But the pro version will come with the Helios 90?
Almost as if they messed up and named the wrong model ‘pro’ 🤣
48mp.
What is that 4800 for? Idk Chinese
