Redmi Note 7 stopped working after 3 foot drop from pocket with a case on. No visible body damage but the phone won’t turn on. Did a component loosen? Has this happened to anyone?
Support XiaomiEnlightened
Redmi note 7. Bulit for durability.
Before the drop it worked flawlessly? Or did you already see something that is unusual?
Exactly, most phones have serious damage and shattered screens from drops and they still turn on. This is a quality control issue from xiaomi.
I tried and tried but i never got it working again. I looked up some bs about shorting some contact pins inside to have it come back alive again and i think i messsed something else up, after trying so many times
Tried this, not detected at all
Did you ever fix it?
Battery ribbon most likely came loose.
Is the screen all dead? Dis you hold the power button for about half minute and tried starting it again? If nothing happens after this, I would think the battery connector popped out. After I’ve replaced some stuff in my OnePlus3, the battery wasn’t plugged completely and I had to open it again. If there is no damage on the phone, I would suggest warranty repair, as this is not normal.
The “star-shaped” bits are called torx and they’re completely normal and common. Hex is more rare.
I have that same cocomii case on my Mi Mix 2 and I’ve dropped it a ton. I agree with being Xiaomi’s fault.
I work in a mobile repair shop myself.. You can try a few things..
1. Reconnect LCD.
2. Get the motherboard out and check for any damage on the motherboard.
3. Get a multimeter and check the motherboard.
4. Reconnect all the cables.
5. Speaking for myself but most of the time when a phone “randomly” stopped working its or the LCD(Most of the time) or a little break in the circuitboard which is easy to fix.
If you have any questions just pm me.
interested to know what you did
i had a similar issue. I dont think i dropped it but it prolly got bumped in my pocket at work. Did everything and no power or anything. Changed the battery too.
It happened to me on the poco f1
Is this a real subreddit? These comments seem insane.
No offense but I dropped my redmi 5 so many times with head height accidently and it never stopped working considering I don’t even use a case and a tempered glass to protect it, which is stupid anyways.
EDIT – kind of stupid but.have you.tried to hold the power button for atleast 30 seconds?
There’s a video on YouTube by some random channel (not Jerryrigs) which shows the process of opening and removing the paint of Redmi Note 7 panel to make it transparent.
Dude if u using a normal screwdriver for star shaped screws u cause more trouble for next time.
Most probably the battery connector is loose. It’s quite an easy fix. open it up and reconnect it.
I did this with a Galaxy s4 once and the screen actually did have a microscopic vertical crack accept the entire thing. Stopped it from showing anything. You could only see it turning it at a certain angle in light
Maybe try to connect it to the computer and see if it shows up as a storage device. If it does it is probertly only the screen that has been damaged.
Happened same thing to me few years back with a rugged case like this on my samsung galaxy ( don’t use rugged cases that’s all) the problem was display ribbon (that’s how the repairman called it) got damaged ☹️
I have that exact case for my Mix 2, and the corners are soft-ish rubber with air pockets under them. So it’s not the fault of the case.
Ok, thx, F to your broken phone.
If you look at the reflection you might see that I’m recording with another redmi note 7 with the same case, I’ve dropped that one before and had no problems. This one was probably not tested properly during manufacturing because every phone should be able to survive a light drop especially with such a big case, just bad luck
after 3 foot drop. you should open up that and check the hardware, man
I have the same case, I’m worried now.
I would actually cry if this happened cos this is my exact phone I’m kinda jealous you got the blue tho
wonder if you can make a clear back panel in jerryrig style
Maybe the power button got damaged. My redmi note 5 got button damage after falling while using tpu case.
I’m out of ideas, maybe the drop broke something
I have heat gun and repair kits, I’m used to opening up phones. The redmi note 7 opened really easily. All the connections were in place, I disconnected and reconnected all the ribbon cables and connectors to be sure but still nothing 🙁
I damaged the PCB when I dropped it and that pretty well killed my phone
Update: I opened the phone and disconnected and reconnected everything but still does not turn on or show charging led. I’ll order a new battery and see if that helps. And I’ll try to call xiaomi support later and see if they can help even though I’m in the US and I doubt it.
Are there any other possible fixes besides reconnecting the battery cable and other cables?
Update 2: Thank you everyone for the help, I will try to see if something is wrong with the motherboard. I called xiaomi, they do not service phones in the US so its up to me. It was such a light and insignificant drop so I still have hope that it is fixable. This case is actually very sturdy (people say its cheap but it feels just as good as any uag or spigen) and I have it on other phones, a redmi note 5 and another note 7, and I’ve never had a problem so I do think its more the phones fault. Most phones get body damage and cracked screens and still turn on and this phone doesn’t even have a scratch. I’ve tried holding the power button and volume buttons all kinds of ways and times but its not a software issue, its unrooted and stock. Because of the drop, it’s definitely a hardware issue.
Have you charged the phone for a while? You can try removing the case, then the battery but you need to be careful about that.
If that won’t work contact seller about warranty. That’s the easiest option. You’ll get it fixed, new phone or in worst case money back…
Try to understand if it’s just the screen turned off or the entire device dead.
What you are saying makes sense but weirdly led wasn’t turning on for me either. Maybe for my case just opening the back set all the weka connections proper. You’re right though probably not that. Just mentioned because I had this scare just last week
The charging led is not even turning on
I was just thinking how my phone’s in cheap tpe cases always survive, but throw on an otter box and the phone is dead next time it drops
I said might, but thanks for telling me.
thats weird, my redmi 5 plus slipped out of my jacket while riding motorcycle, twice and the only thing that got damaged is tempered glass which is only cost around $5 to replace. maybe i got lucky
Maybe just the buttons are not working? Unlikely but happened to me. Power button stopped working but I have a Redmi note 4 so I just opened up the back with my nails, and while the buttons were shit, they weren’t completely gone and pressing directly onto the electronic button instead of using the plastic buts helped. Worth a try???
not that bad of an idea, sometimes it works, especially in these kinds of cases
I replaced a screen on my girlfriend’s redmi 5a last weekend, there is a very thin wire and really small gold connection going from the circuit board at the bottom of the phone to the motherboard at the top, it runs up the left side of the battery, this may have came loose, it’s an easy fix
Grab a mobile phone repair kit from Amazon, and take the back case off to see if any of the connection have came off
Wont turn on at all, its not software bricked
Hmm i doubt that is the case, No pun intended
That case is made of TPU and a PC shell. In any case the corners are hard and transfer most of the impact to the tpu and the pc. If this breakes it, then a drop without the case would have damaged it as Well, possibly also shattering glass
I say something was slightly lose and the drop released a connector or something. Either way i dropped my phones with similar cases 100+ times, this never happened and should not happen.
Either something with the battery, in which case he is Lucky and can change it/repair it or it might be Motherboard which would be really shitty…
from my own experience the battery connection just unplugged itself, when i got my phone, i opened it and saw that my battery plug was just barely pluged in, i swinged phone in hand and it plug off itself, so maybe thats an issue here
did u try key combos ? vol + pwr, is it having mi ui or lineage os ?
Either get it warranty serviced, take it to a third party service or open it yourself (not recommended). Depending on the damage it may require only a connector plug which might have come loose from the drop. If u want to be careful use the warranty and ask for a replacement or open it (watch a video online) and see if you can fix it yourself.
Can you get into fastboot if recovery mode ?
The mentioned connector could very well be it. I can tell you that it’s not a heavy operation, check some YouTube movies about battery replacements and you know what to do. There are ones for your device too.
Possibly the battery connector to the board loosening. U can use a hair dryer. Heat up the back of the phone and gently lift if one of those suction thing.
Maybe the battery connector got loosen up
You will have to open this phone and check
Have you tried to press the power button for about 10 seconds?
It might be that the case is too firm, which rather than absorbing the impact, transfers it to the phone. Other than that, get your phone checked and get a new case.
if you don’t have a warrenty,
take it to a 3rd party repair shop they will be able to fix it
Drop it again and see if it works 🤣, will have to get it serviced
No light. I live in the US I don’t think they service it here. Bought it from aliexpress.
