I may got interested in that phone again, as I don’t see myself using 5G anytime soon in my country
Yeah but it’s nice to have a phone that’s ready to go when it does arrive, this decision is beyond me, 5G modem comes shipped with the 865 it doesn’t cost any extra to include it yet the global market apparently doesn’t deserve it. The decisions Xiaomi’s making this year is embarrassing, releasing a phone with the same price as the S20 (at least in my country) and it’s slightly worse in every aspect, big shock no one’s buying Mi10’s here. They have their heads in the sand if they think they’re ready to compete with Samsung, OnePlus and Apple.
I’d rather have sd855 and way cheaper price than sd865 that can’t maxout all my games..pubg only gets to hdr ultra instead of extreme and cod is only in high max instead of veryhigh in all SD865 phones..thats not good,i just hope with all the upgraded hardware and a stable sd855,xiaomi would introduce the price from $350 for 6+128
But isn’t Poco an indian brand or something?
>5G modem comes shipped with the 865 it doesn’t cost any extra to include it
Isn’t 5G the reason why phones this year are ridiculously expensive? Even Oneplus 8 is expensive.
Could still be an SD865. iQOO/Vivo released an SD865 phone in India in both 4G and 5G variants. You still only have the one option for modem (X55) so they likely disabled the 5G portion of it and saved money by skipping band certification.
In theory yes , but apparently the new direction of POCO is just launching Redmi phones internationally with rebranded names
Yes, yes it is.
They will include 5g modem but doesn’t activate it. Considering the millions of phones they make, saving cost for certification for 5g can save them a lot. Being a global variant they need to certify it in many jurisdictions. So they will have 865 with x55 modem with 5g disabled. So they can avoid a larger cost.
5g uses a lot of battery and heats up like crazy and is very expensive. By the time you will use 5G on your phone it will be obsolete and in need of an upgrade.
Why it’s the only way ?
To support 5G, your hardware must support it, not only SOC
PA, LNA, Antenna, etc all must suport 5G stuff
the S865 doesn’t have integrated 5g modem so technically there can still be a phone with s865 that doesn’t support 5g. but i guess these oem purchasing the SOCs with 5g modem in large number for a discount so with lower end phone they just disabled the modem instead of ordering another without 5g modem.
They did a mistake pricing the mi 10 to that extent. 100 bucks increment wouldve been good. They decided to go full jackass mode while still not offering any sort of stabilisation on front facing camera. God
In the end the modem (X55) is or not included in the SD865 soc? In the net there are several conflicting sources.
Didn’t they just say last week the new Poco isint gonna be a rebranded k30?
Exactly. If removing 5G makes the device cheaper again I’m all for it. I’ll have a new smartphone in about 2 years when 5G is actually available.
Yeah but it’s disabled. I don’t know how they took out the modem.
I was under the impression that the 865 *doesn’t* come with an included 5G radio, which is why some upcoming phones like the Pixel 5 are opting for lesser chipsets. Having to add a separate radio costs space and power, so many companies are planning on using the 765 instead, which does include an onboard radio
5g= Covid 19
It all depends on the price. If it’s around the same price as the f1 at launch (give or take 50 bucks) it could be an absolute monster seller.
Too bad the Pro version doesn’t have OIS. I want to buy the Zoom version…
Calm down Karen.
Time to get down voted
It’s meant to be a joke
I was under the impression, that Poco is Indian-only, no? Poco X2 also didn’t launch globally.
And if it would launch under Xiaomi brand, then I don’t even want to know the price.
Yeah, the thing is 5G simply offers faster speed and lower latency, IF you’re lucky which changes nothing in day to day usage… Better congestion handling as well, which will be seen in 2-3 years when 5G phones actually flood the mainstream. All the while , 4G network will be relieved from some pressure making it faster than it is today.
4G on the other hand offered VoLTE and VoWIFI both of which are substantial advantages over 3G/HSPA…
5G is a nice bonus if you don’t have to pay the price premium , but if you have to pay for it when it won’t make a difference then it’s annoying. But companies HAVE TO find a reason to sell you their next overpriced flagship year after year… Yeah , no thanks…
If Redmi k30 PRO/Poco F2 doesn’t charge us the price premium for 5G then it’s the best decision. If they do charge us while disabling 5G then i’d be pissed. We’ll have to wait and see…
I do wonder , is POCO a global brand or not? We keep getting mixed messages… I thought Poco ended up being for India only?
Very nice! I dont like 5G. It uses way more battery for fast speeds you dont need and chances are high your network provider didnt build enough masts in you area
I hope this will change in the future, right?
I think, that back in 2018 Poco was a global brand, but nowadays it’s just an Indian-only brand, which is releasing rebranded Redmi phones. A global launch (like in Europe) is done under Xiaomi’s name. It might have to do something with most personnel leaving Poco after their first model.
They are not taking out the modem because they can’t. They are not bundling the antennas required for 5G(mmwave) and is trying to cut costs because 5G requires licensing fees.
The device will still have all the hardware required for sub 6 5G(just disabled).
But then you might as well get the Mi 9T Pro.
So there wont be mi 10T Pro ?
I mean 5G is the most uselesss trend right now, making phones expensive for no benefit.
but let’s hope that the price isn’t inflated in Europe like they did with the Mi 10
There’s a video of Jerryrigseverything where he took apart an S20 Ultra 5G, and the placement of the 5G modem was empty, it didn’t have 5G
No.
Then it wasn’t a good joke
What? Why can’t it max out those games?
Not sure why but i saw every gaming test vids on sd865 phones and none can max those two popular games out
I prefer 6.67 over 6.4 screen these day tho since im comfortable using my redminote9s
Blame QCom
I’ve never seen conspiracy theorists say 5G *caused* the pandemic. I’ve only seen that claim on the news and online. As far as I can tell, the conspiracy theorists believe that 5G will be used for tracking microchips that people will be implanted with to show their vaccination status and has been rolled out despite substantial evidence of its potential dangers to human health in order to facilitate this. That’s all I know.
865 doesn’t come with 5g modem inside
No, 865 have separate X55 5G modem and it cost extra $
Whats wrong with everyone here. Qualcomm clearly states that 865 doesn’t have integral 5G modem. That would be impossible to put that massive modem in soc in 2019. Its has almost the same size as 865 itself
SD865 DOES NOT have 5G modem inside where everyone got that info from??
Its doesnt come with modem included. Thats what they told on presentation
It’s not impossible, Huawei already has a fully functional 5G modem integrated into their SOC(990 5G). And the yes the die size is still acceptable.
You are right. My point was based on what I was reading that X55 consume too much power to be in same soc with cpu generating too much heat per square mm
Snapdragon 865 have 5g so what’s cpu they going used ?
My fucking phone is dying, give me the poco F2 now pls…(First tell me how expenside it’ll be 😛 )
Send your source because that is absolute bullshit what you’re saying. Yes the modem is separate this year but it doesn’t cost extra, we have known since December that Qualcomm is selling the 865 and the modem as a package.
“One of the more interesting changes is that there’s no internal modem anymore. Qualcomm is instead offering the Snapdragon 865 with the Snapdragon X55 5G modem, and the chipset is sold as a package deal — device makers won’t get the Snapdragon 865 unless they also opt for the X55 modem.”
I see all your comments on this thread running around saying ‘oh the modem is separate’ no shit Sherlock thanks for stating the obvious.
The only part I can be wrong is that its cost extra, because I just assumed it by fact that its external modem. Still what I was saying in all comments is that its not internal. But can you send me source that Qualcomm cant sell it without modem now, reducing the price?
“Stating the obvious” – people saying that “Xiaomi can’t take the modem out because its part of the soc” and I see no reason for “Sherlock” joke by correcting them
I hope you won’t argue with me that X55 is separate modem and you can find it on phone schematics or by dissasembling SD 5G phone. And there should be proof that Qualcomm can’t make a deal for such company as xiaomi to make SD865 with X20 4G modem, for example
So X55 is external modem and it does cost $ to produce it. Can xiaomi use 4G modem or not is unknown atm
Xiaomi lo mejor !
It costs extra because Qualcomm has the monopoly, 865 devices will have to design and make new components to be able to power both the processor and the modem since it’s not integrated anymore. I don’t know why you’re hanging onto this ‘X55 is separate’ speech, this has been known since December there’s no arguement there it’s a well known fact.
Qualcomm released this back in the tech summit at Hawaii if you want the official source you can go and watch it, they ship both together, now give me your source that as you say, OEMs have to pay extra for the modem.
Thats not a statement that sd865 always will be bundled with X55 modem. Last year sd855 could work with both X50 and X2* modems (5g or 4g), so how you can be sure that this time Qualcomm cant make a deal for Xiaomi offering them sd865 without 5G modem, reducing the price?
When I told “modem cost extra $” means of course its cost something isn’t it?, thats why sd865+X55 is so expensive, not because cpu price increased, its still the same 7nm technology with a bit better cores, its because of new 5g modems. And IF Qualcomm will sell them cpu only, without modem, its will be cheaper, I think thats logical.
And why its not possible? If I will ask you “I will buy from you 10 millions of your sd865, but without modem, reducing price by 10$/piece. Deal or no deal? If no, we have offer from MTK for their D1000 cpu”, for example, why wouldn’t it possible?
What I’m saying is that there is no proof that sd865 can’t be sold with 4G modem now. Im sure if they are releasing Pocophone F2, they found a way to reduce CPU price, because as they told themselves Poco F2 wasnt released last year because sd855 was too expensive
No deal, do you know what monopoly means? They have absolute control over the market they can stick whatever price tag they want on the 865 because that’s the benchmark soc, mediatek or exynos just can’t compete not yet. They come bundled together, maybe they can work with last years 4g modem maybe they can’t but that’s not the point I’m making. Qualcomm doesn’t need make deals not even for Xiaomi they are doing well enough without them. Just look at Samsung, they sell the S20 and the S20 5G and guess what, the S20 has the X55 but 5G is disabled. Very likely Poco F2 will do the same.
There were news stating that Qualcomm and Xiaomi are in close partnership and they do have contracts and discounts, and Qualcomm use Xiaomi as soc promotion platform. They do have monopoly, but only in high end segment. They dramatically lose budget and middle segment as many chinese vendors moving to MTK. New Dimensity 800 and 1000 is coming now and if you say Qualcomm can put any price on their Soc’s then they will be in the same situation like Intel.
And thats doesnt mean they cant make deals. Xiaomi can offer them choosing their soc instead of mtk in Redmi line and ask for discounts buying high end cpus in bulk. Or something like that
Don’t move the goalposts we aren’t talking about low to mid end phones. Flagship phones have Snapdragon 800 series therefore Qualcomm have the monopoly end of story.
