I am using the reddit boost app on redmi note 8. You can download gifs that have been shot vertically in .m4v format and use them for animated wallpapers. Though be careful the is a sub called verticalgifs that is very NSFW.

After you set a video file as wallpaper with the Gallery app, you can use any 3rd party wall.

Hmm, the loop works on homescreen but not on lockscreen ….??
And, is there any video wallpaper that is truly a looped one? These just make me hickup, because they jump to beginning when they reach end , and it’s ugly.

Quick question, does video wallpaper also work on home screen, and does it loop automatically?
I have it on lockscreen (not the Marvel one but one of the preinstalled ones) and it does nothing to battery life, but is nice to see when screen turns on for notification and such.

I can pretty much assure you that we can’t set ANY VIDEO as your LOCKSCREEN WALLPAPER until MIUI 11.
Before MiUI 11, we were only able to set live wallpapers for Homescreen.
Still no MIUI update for me on RN7 🙁

For those who are still on the MIIU. You can do this with any video file. I used a HDR video from youtube.
Here are the instructions.
Open File Manager make sure that you are showing hidden folders by clicking the three dots on the top right just under you storage info.
Then click on the MIUI folder and create a folder called. .videowallpaper Don’t forget the period in front of the name.
Now just copy any video file into that directory.
Open your wallpaper settings and click on the smiley face on the bottom right. Then click wallpapers. You do not have to have a Mi account. Then click My wallpaper movies. Your video will show up there and you can add it to the lock screen as well.
Its a bit of a workaround but once you have it setup its a lot easier to add to it. All you have to do is save the video file to the .videowallpaper directory and it will show up under My wallpaper movies.

Go to Miui forums, and register. You can then search and download piles of animated wallpapers.
Then you put them in /MIUI/.videowallpaper/ directory … they should be *.m4v files with certain resolution. I got ones for iPhone and for OnePlus.
Cannot help you with the MIUI11 update though. 🙁

Not true. Custom live wallpaper can run on miui10. I was able to get it working on lock and home screen on miMix3(5g) and the regular Xiaomi themes app

Yep those are the steps I used about 1 month ago.
What phone are you using?
Go to Gallery > Select any desired video > Press the three dots at the bottom > choose set as video wallpaper. Simple.
And that’s a great choice.

On contrary. Makes sense only on lockscreen. And on home screen , you get to make it overcrowded with information not being able to recognize your icons.
