PSA: Xiaomi.EU is not an Official Global ROM

  • 0
  • 0

since there’s always news, dates and updates about the official MIUI 11 a lot of users replys that they solve installing [xiaomi.eu](https://xiaomi.eu) for having MIUI 11 but without alerting how the procedure is made or what are they installing or what’s gonna happen after that.

i just maded this post to clarify for all the newcomers or newbies that the Custom Rom [Xiaomi.EU](https://Xiaomi.EU) is not an official ROM developed by Xiaomi; im not saying is bad actually i would like to try to install when i change to a newer xiaomi (probably MI9T) but still this post is valid for helping out newcomers in the xiaomi ecosystem.

[Xiaomi.EU](https://Xiaomi.EU) is a custom ROM based on China Estable MIUI Rom with a lot of customization for making sure to provide the best MIUI Experiencie (the most noticiable way are the removal of ads in Xiaomi Apps)Full List of Differences vs a Global MIUI Rom are here = [https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/xiaomi-eu-vs-global-rom-differences.37425/](https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/xiaomi-eu-vs-global-rom-differences.37425/)

a little FAQ:

**Can I download the** [**Xiaomi.EU**](https://Xiaomi.EU) **ROM in my newest Xiaomi phone for getting MIUI 11 earlier?**

Yes, if you know what are you doing and there’s a release for that, the best method is to go the [xiaomi.eu](https://xiaomi.eu) website and make the tutorial, but remember that doing so you have to unlock your bootloader and then flash the custom ROM (you can also install anothers customs ROM available for your phone device like Pixel Experience) but remember that doing this method you will stop receiving official OTA Updates since you will start using a custom ROM ( [Xiaomi.EU](https://Xiaomi.EU) have their own OTA Updates thought) .

**Can I unlock the bootloader, install a custom ROM and then relock the bootloader?**

ABSOLUTELY NO, if you do this your device will be bricked because the main purpose of the bootloader is to make sure that you have Official ROMS installed, if you go back to an Official ROM, you can relock the bootloader

**I found a custom tool called XiaoMiToolsV2 for installing custom and official ROMS, can i use this for changing trought roms?**

You can but i do not recommend since is not an official app, use it at your own risk, you can make another stuff like installing a custom recovery (TWRP or Orange Fox)

**My friend and I both have the same global phone at the latest versions but we have different number versions, why this happen?**

All xiaomi Official MIUI Roms have different versions numbers based of the Regions, the most common mistake are between the Europe Rom (EEA) and the Global Version, my phone itself have the EEA rom but im actually in Mexico and it works flawlessly (altought i will use the xiaomi tools for changing to Global without altering the bootloader hoping it works)

if you want to know the latest versions of your region Official MIUI ROM i recommend using this page [https://xiaomifirmwareupdater.com/miui/](https://xiaomifirmwareupdater.com/miui/) but just for searching matters, i do not endorse or recommend downloading from here, always use the official methods (Customs or Official ROMs)

**I check the updates and there people actually with the offiicial MIUI 11, why is not mine yet?**

i cannot speak for Xiaomi Itself but they have planned release by this month and the next one for rolling the stables release for the different regions, i do not have the official dates for each region, just be patient or make the journey of flashing your Phone with a custom ROM

Now we need a law which allows us to open the device without voiding the warranty, like in the US.

Thank you for this really helpful post, OP! I am a newbie and it has been a long time since I’ve had a phone where some tweaks could make a big difference. My Mi 9T Pro has not arrived yet (UK based), but from what I’ve read, I should be able to install the official MIUI 11.

you helpfully included a link to a list of differences between the Global and EEA ROMS, but that was last updated in 2017. Would this still be accurate for the differences between [MIUI.EU](https://MIUI.EU) and Official MIUI 11? Basically, is it worth going through the process if I have stock 11?

I do want to install the google-style camera software as that seem to be a significant improvement in everything other than video. But it seems that I can do that without an unlocked bootloader, correct?

Thank you for taking the time to post this.

As i recall, you can unlock bootloader instal miui.eu and use it, and after that you can instsl global again and lock bootleader. Please correct me if i’m wrong.

Yes, the admin of xiaomi.eu maded that list and it constantly updated

The “worth” factor depends on you, some people just preffer to stay on stock ROM and its fine for them.

Some xiaomi pones allows to install gcam without making impactful changes like unlocking the bootloader, you just need to check if the Mi 9T pro allows it

Quick question. Speaking on **official** ROMs, what’s the difference between EEA and Global? Which one is recommended?

Edit: I found this thread. Lots of great information: [https://www.reddit.com/r/Xiaomi/comments/bt6z7b/miui\_global\_rom\_vs\_eea\_rom/](https://www.reddit.com/r/Xiaomi/comments/bt6z7b/miui_global_rom_vs_eea_rom/)

I don’t use Magisk and never have and have zero issues with Google pay, but I’m using “SIM wallet” for NFC verification instead of HCE wallet so I don’t if that affects things but it works so I don’t fiddle with it.

Yeah xiaomi.eu ROMs are usually better than global I’m running the latest weekly as well which is running Android 10 widevine is L1 safety net pass the only thing is google pay detects that the ROM is not official but there is an easy fix
Just go to twrp and go to advanced open file manager and go to data/data/com.google.android.gms/database/DG.db
Select chmod and put “440” confirm and reboot and voila Google pay is working again

Well as far as Widevine is concerned, I don’t care about it since I bought the 8GB ram and 256GB storage model of the MIX 3 which is the Chinese model which I knew would be on L3 anyway.
Otherwise, no issues with the EU rom and Netflix shows up for download in the Play store contrary to what some have said and it allows me to download movies and episodes in HD which I only do when I travel and even then, only on my Mi Pad 4.

It’s not, I don’t think you realise how bootloader unlocking works. It’s a simple fastboot command to lock and unlock it again (with subsequent data wipes).

The only limitation is one your manufacturer might set against your IMEI, such as making you wait for 30 / 60 / 90 days etc with a new device to prevent undesirable exports.

i’m not a xiaomi employee i’m just another average user, a lot of people doesn’t know how bootloader works and i’m not trying to scare them but at least make them understand that if they tried to install a custom rom and then relock the bootloader they will bricked… you cannot make the assumption that everybody knows how this works, to this days there are still people who thinks that [xiaomi.eu](https://xiaomi.eu) is a official xiaomi miui rom for european people or phones

i will give the point that if they go back to stock, they can relock the bootloader, i will add that to the FAQ, thanks for that clarifycation

Not here in Taiwan either, though it’s only Xiaomi’s own policy. They don’t care if you unlock or root or flash anything

That’s the reason why I’m not buying Samsung, any device from them.

Sony had only a software side protection called TA Partition, but it was possible to backup it over ADB. So you could write it back after installing Stock. Without the partition you had worse camera quality, also no Bavaria features.

I’ve not lost a single one of these in all the years I’ve been on the EU rom including no issues with banking and credit card apps with the exception of Google pay for about a month due to a bug they had to resolve but like I tell everyone, I have no issues with Safetynet or Play services at all.
I have more issues with Global than with the EU rom.
Seriously, the Global team could learn a lot from the EU team.

    >**Can I unlock the bootloader, install a custom ROM and then relock the bootloader?**
    >
    >ABSOLUTELY NO, if you do this your device will be bricked because the main purpose of the bootloader is to make sure that you have Official ROMS installed

So I installed Miui EU some weeks ago, all is running fine and all, no problems with the updates but I realized my bootloader is actually locked now. Is this really a problem? When I try to connect to my phone through adb fasttools it’ll show as locked but everything is working as intended. Also, I never locked it AND when I decided i’d install miui.eu, it was unlocked already without me doing nothing

That’s helpful, thanks! Any idea how I can find that out? Sorry for being a pain, just not sure what I would even search for.

Some are practicing “tampering” with a device’s firmware triggers an irreversible burnt e fuse or something which may affect some functionality.

The ones I know for sure doing this is Samsung, and Nintendo. (Thankfully not Xiaomi)

For the recent Samsung phones, unlocking the bootloader will permanently break Knox, you may lose some of the Samsung’s software features. (Someone I know from a group, he attempted to trade in his rooted Galaxy S7, but he can’t because his Knox was voided if I’m not mistaken)

Meanwhile Nintendo does this for their Switch game console to attempt to make modding the console firmware (Most people would do so to sideload games.) harder. Generally every software update burns a fuse, supposedly would not allow older versions of firmwares to be installed, generally newer firmwares would mean methods to mod the console has been patched.

I am not exactly sure if this practice should be illegal or not.

According to Xiaomi support, it does void the warranty on some devices even if you relock it. I’m not sure how they check that though and the chat agent didn’t seem to know what they’re talking about.
