its a problem for this smartphone at that price

at first i was going to get a nokia 5 but saw that screen is 720p so i check the nokia 6 which had 1080p screen but it was more expensive than the A1 which not only had a 1080p screen but a snapdragon 625 which is an upgrade compare to the 430 of the nokias

As a mi band fan, I just find this hilarious (less of a negative for the phone, more of a positive for the mi band).

Yeah man it sucks, but they improved the battery, the storage chip is now UFS and I’m disappointed with the EMMC on A2, they “improved” to AMOLED and put back the jack, a 11nm processor and a new wide sensor to cameras, it’s a really good improvement in my opinion

Yes it’s a little bit less powerful, but it’s made on 11nm and the improvement it’s on the GPU that now it has a 600 series GPU, Adreno610, yes, it would be better to have 675 like RN 7 Pro, but even the 7 Pro isn’t global, having in count that it has 720p display I think the CPU would have power to spare

The problem is that some people say AMOLED displays has different pixel disposition so is more perceptible to the eye, also you usually use the mi band farther than a cellphone

Exactly, I mean the iPhone XR costs $1,250 (AUD) and comes with a 828 pixel display. Also the mi s2 launched with a 6 inch 720p display and it looks fine. Less pixels can boost the processing speeds and battery life. Also the display is an amoled which is a step up from the redmi note 7. I don’t really think you can see pixels at 282 ppi but maybe you can because Apple says that 300 ppi and up is retina (you can’t see the different pixels with your eyes).

Well, if you can’t see it then you must be blind AF. I had a Moto G (4,5″) with 720p Display and I could see pixels. I can also see pixels on XR. I would’t buy any device without at least FHD. I also don’t buy a device with a notch in 2019.

I live and work in China, and I’ve seen the phone in Mi stores.

My unpopular opinion is that the display is fine. Yes, I’d definitely be happier if it had a 1080p screen. But I could definitely live with it, and what you’re getting for that tradeoff is an under-display fingerprint sensor, the contrast and saturation of AMOLED screens, UFS storage, and a half-inch 48MP sensor for the camera.

Xiaomi has been working on their camera postprocessing algorithms and my personal opinion the CC9e (Chinese version of the A3) has a camera that’s very competitive against the Mi 9 at the moment. The new camera software will likely be ported to the Mi 9 soon as well given their similar hardware, but the camera is tremendously competent, even without considering its price point.

I guess it depends on where your priorities lie. If you consume a lot of multimedia content on your phone then yeah, avoid the A3. But if you want a great camera and what will likely be chart-topping battery life, I don’t think you can do better than the A3. And oh, the white colour scheme is a real head-turner.

I don’t mind 720p screen tbh I have never been able to the difference of pixels, I use my galaxy note in 720p mode all the time. But I do mind the 665, it is just trash, 675 would have been much better

Some AMOLED use RGB pixel arrangement so it’ll appear as sharp as LCD (like one on Apple Watch)

Most phone AMOLED with Pentile pixel arrangement which will appear to be less sharp than RGB when have same PPI.

Considering Amoled as Pentile amoled, only green is 720p, red and blue are 2/3 720p = 480p… so, I’m almost sure it will be a substantial downgrade… If they release an A3 Pro (CC9), I will buy, but I won’t buy a 720p pentile smartphone, because it will be a really bad display if you care about pixels/resolution.

Meh, you’re comparing IPS to OLED here. OLED will have a pentile matrix which means the effective resolution of the Mi A3 is actually below 720p.

It was literally one step close from being the best €200 phone of the year but I just personally cannot recommend it anymore.

I think that problem should only be a concern to heavy gamers, but the A3 isn’t even targeted for them so it shouldn’t really be a problem.

To be honest, that’s just marginally sharper.

More important than the display sharpness is the display brightness. The Mi Band 4 gets much brighter and the display is easily visible even in direct sunlight.

i think the problem is not with the resolution itself but the fact that if you choose any other phone in this price point then you get an fullHD screen, and that almost everyone know is using a fullHD screen even i couldn’t justify to jump back to a 720p screen to be honest

But what about the 665 chip? Apparently it’s less powerful than the 660 according to antutu scores. A 675 would’ve been legendary

Lol silly me… It was midnight I was so tired and I read your comment as Mi A3 has RGB AMOLED. Yeah the Mi Band 4 indeed uses a RGB display.

So exactly the same and nobody complains about the pixel density on the Mi Band. Hmmm.

Edit: Higher than the new iPad as well.
