Due to all the misinformation spread by the press, a lot of people in the community seem to believe that the recently announced Mi 6X is going to be made into an Android One phone, the Mi A2 and so it’s only natural to call the Mi 6X by that moniker and refer to them as one.
The problem is, such model does not exist. This idea is based on a chain of assumptions, without any remarkable rumours or confirmation from Xiaomi.
The Mi 5X came out in July last year and Xiaomi released the Mi A1 later in September. The Mi A1 was based on the Mi 5X, their dimensions and most of the hardware are the same but the software is completely different and the phones aren’t compatible with each other. The 5X, codenamed tiffany, runs MIUI while the A1, codenamed tissot, comes with stock Android, just like any other device in the Android One programme. Running one model’s software on the other requires porting \(custom development\).
That’s it, that’s the whole story of the Mi 5X and the Mi A1, there’s nothing more to it or their connection. The sole fact that the Mi A1 was based on the Mi 5X makes the press think that a successor to the 5X automatically means a successor to the A1, which is none other than the Mi 6X running stock Android, so we should already call the Mi 6X the Mi A2.
So far Xiaomi hasn’t said anything about a successor to the A1 being in the works and there have been no remarkable rumours on the successor coming either. There is no established connection between these two series and they do not depend on each other. It’s possible that a second Android One phone is coming and it might be based on the Mi 6X but so far nothing confirmed that this is going to happen.
[This recent article on XDA](https://www.xda-developers.com/xiaomi-mi-a1-successor-android-one/) does shine some light on the matter and suggests this scenario, but it was posted way after people started calling the Mi 6X the Mi A2, which makes the point of this post stand. I wrote this post to stop misinformation spreading further and upend the misconceptions people had about the Mi A2 and the Mi 6X.
Thanks for reading.
Then what?
You do not understand how Android One works. It is not exactly a google supported device…
but still this type of support is not to be expected from a google supported device
Time to unstick this?
Xiaomi’s android one is terrible. also update is suck.
I love mine, I picked it up cos my S7 battery died and it wasn’t worth replacing it with six months left on my contract. I paid £150 for it and when my contract runs out I’ll cancel and go on to SIM only and just buy mid range phones.from now on. I never really got on with the S7 anyhow. I found that buggy.
£179.99 sounds steep. I paid £136 for mine off eBay a while ago from eglobalcentral. They have a direct site too and it’s not quite as cheap as eBay but not far off (check eBay though and make sure seller is decent obviously): https://www.eglobalcentraluk.com/?tduid=5c70cc2165e4de66223aef26cccb8d85#/product/21984
Loving mine and highly recommended. Good luck!
With every update it brings some new bugs and issues. This one is the latest : https://gadgets.ndtv.com/mobiles/news/mi-a1-android-8-1-oreo-update-pulled-over-software-bugs-sms-history-wiped-1876675
You know who else is tiffany?
nevermind, joke ruined.
who care after they messed up with the A1.
https://youtu.be/Lp-STNso27s WTF
It’s not like gizmochina have published stuff in the past that was completely false or anything
Thanks for the advice, appreciated.
I don’t think I can put up with MIUI though.
if you want 2 years garanty get it imported from france
http://www.mi.com/fr/
Thanks.
I’ve heard about the Note 5, but I was attracted to the A2 because of its stock Android and USB\-C. Not having to deal with a new UI (MIUI) is attractive.
I’m also pretty confused about the Note 5/Plus/Pro situation (what the difference is) and i’m also a little concerned about importing from China because of the lack of warrenty. I’m still considering it, but the security of a warrenty if I buy from Amazon UK is appealing.
Hi. Thanks for your response. Well I could get a lower price (£129/$173) for the 32GB model (i actually don’t need the 64GB model come to think of it – I have a 32GB micro sd around) if i were to import it from China (i’m in the UK obvs).
Would that be a better option? Or would you suggest looking at different phones entirely? Which are the better models you’re thinking of?
Thanks.
Would it be fine to go ahead and buy a Mi A1 now, then? I can get a 64GB model for £179.99 ($241).
I’d be upgrading from a Moto G3.
Hmm strange, one week ago I found news that was confirming that such phone as A2 will not be released. But today I have found something that suggest otherwise: [https://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi\_mi\_a2\_lite\_gets\_certified\-news\-31460.php](https://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_mi_a2_lite_gets_certified-news-31460.php)
Nothing is confirmed until it’s actually announced.
Mi 6X is the new Mi A2 as per new article from gizmochina. lol
That’s Geekbuying’s made up listing. They’re known for those, along with many other things that make them a very shitty reseller.
Dafuq is this:
https://m.geekbuying.com/item/Xiaomi-Mi-A2-5-65-Inch-6GB-64GB-Smartphone-Black-392869.html
“Xiaomi has denied the current existence of a phone with the moniker Mi A2, but says that it will make more Android One devices in the future”
[https://www.digit.in/mobile\-phones/exclusive\-xiaomi\-denies\-mi\-a2s\-existence\-but\-will\-continue\-to\-make\-android\-one\-phones\-41310.html](https://www.digit.in/mobile-phones/exclusive-xiaomi-denies-mi-a2s-existence-but-will-continue-to-make-android-one-phones-41310.html)
Yeah, fuck you Tiffany
Fair enough, but I wouldn’t call it a rumor..
But the first link is proof though
Sorry didn’t read that bit LOL
https://www.xda-developers.com/xiaomi-mi-a1-successor-android-one/
Here’s proof that the Mi 6X will be rebranded as the Mi A2 (or A1 2018)
Why would they even call it the A2? I thought A1 means Android One. A1 2018 is most likely.
Google says it is tissot\_sprout [https://support.google.com/googleplay/answer/1727131?hl=en](https://support.google.com/googleplay/answer/1727131?hl=en)
sprout is usually reference to Android One device
oh okay, I might’ve misunderstood here. thought you were saying that models such as mi6x / miA2 didn’t existed while you were actually saying that mi6X =/= miA2
I don’t get it… how could that guy made a video on it then if the phone dosn’t exist ? [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=62eFt72C6OM](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=62eFt72C6OM)
Did you read what I just wrote?
The Mi A2 currently does not exist. Unless you can go out right now and buy it, it does publically not exist.
It is PROBABLY in development. I’m pretty sure it’ll be released. Maybe it’ll be called the Mi A2, maybe the Mi A1 2018 \- who knows until something is officially announced?
Fact is, people spreading misinformation about something that currently does not exist is the complete opposite of helpful, and only confuses people.
Goddamnit it, Tiffany!
Nobody’s saying it won’t exist. We’re saying it does not currently exist. It may or may not be a mi 6x rebrand – and we won’t until it is announced.
What will you do if you’re wrong? 🐒
I blame Tiffany.
No probs, happens to the best of us 😉
Finally someone said it. There are already so many videos on YouTube comparing phones with the “Mi A2” using the 6X and that makes me furious.
Thank you so much for this. This issue irritated me too.
>The 5X, codenamed tiffany, runs MIUI while the A1, codenamed tiffany,
I thought the Mi A1 was codenamed tissot?
