Yeah did that. It is way vetter than before.
It’s always preferences.
Want near stock vanilla android? use LOS, PIXEL experience..
want customisation? Use RR, NOS,
There are also several custom kernels like Elemental, Agni, Shadow
I would use it if it was at 8.1 on the mido
*flash twrp to install xiaomi.eu rom*
Yes you’re right, but if the phone doesn’t turn on you’re fucked. I know it’s the worst case scenario, but i prefer not to risk
Hey bro I need help with my phone, same as yours. I just did the global update miui 9 and it still in MIUI loading screen. What do I do? Flash custom rom? I didn’t even bother to unlock the bootloader when I first got the device.
Holly shit that’s so fucking cute!
I’m a aosp fan, but luckily i enjoy miui. And i say luckily because if i didn’t i would need to sacrifice my warranty in order to flash another rom, don’t really want that. Custom roms are great, but i always wait after the warranty expires if i want to use one. This was a real problem 3-4 years ago, cheap android devices weren’t as good as now, and if the device was heavily customized you had to live with slow phones and clunky interfaces in most cases, and changing the rom meant no warranty, so…
Yes for majority MIUI is more than enough, but power users there’s no stopping once bootloader is unlocked.
I bought Mi 5s because it was cheap and it had great hardware. One of the best cameras available at the moment, easily beating much pricier phones.
The stock firmware was an annoying disappointment, but luckily a couple of months later I upgraded it to LOS and was happy until it drank some water and died.
Yep, quite a number of changes on these roms. Based on Xiaomi.eu
The lack of MIUI is what I don’t like about the A1, but that’s the whole point of that model of course.
I love it too. But I love recent android updates, flawless stock notifications more.
You have locked bootloader right? And recent miui 9 update didn’t bootup your device. I suggest you to wait a little more, if it doesn’t bootup to system. Go to stock recovery and wipe cache. If it still doesn’t bootup, make a new post here, other people might help you.
I really like it too, I just like stock Android more.
Am I the only one who loves MIUI?
I’m with you there! I tried lots of custom roms on my Redmi 3S but I keep coming back to MIUI for the stability and battery life.
They did a great job with the rom despite the issues mentioned here, IMO.
I wanted to update to LOS but I have a few questions:
– How’s the camera? I heard that the camera quality in custom roms is pretty poor.
– The flashlight of your device is completely white? Or is it more reddish/yellowish?
I love it despite the RAM management being a bit too much. It doesn’t feel like I have a 4 Gb RAM phone sometimes but oh well!
So what do you guys use besides the stock MIUI then? As in the go-to ROM if you’re flashing the device.
🙂
Meh. I’m what you would consider a power user, and I always end up going back to stock at some point or another. The problem with custom ROMs is that they’re always full of bugs that I really don’t want to have to deal with on a day by day basis.
I can only answer for my mi max, but it is quite aggressive in closing apps.
I switched to los recently, I would seriously prefer MIUI but based on higher version of android, official for my phone is lollipop. You notice that a thing is a feature and miss it only after a switch.
and if you got custom launcher you cant even tell if its miui or something else.
kek
The “how-to” instructions to simply receive Gmail notifications are longer than those to install a custom ROM. The littany of settings, permissions, optimizations and hoopla you need to dive into is out of control.
The notification icons (and status bar font) are way too small. For all the things you can control, it’s ridiculous that you’re stuck with size 6 font at the top.
LOS for me. Stock Android appearance with customization/features. GCam is tremendous! But based on how difficult and cumbersome the unlocking process has been getting with every new phone, this may be my last Xiaomi. “Construct a deep flash cable by sourcing the following parts.” GTFO
I like it but it has to be Global ROM.
Did you even tried LOS for Mi5? If so, then I don’t know what you are talking about, because it’s rock solid.
It might be frustrating in times, but indeed,MIUI is the best Andoid skin i’ve used too!
Compared with LG and HTC Sense that I used in the past,I think it’s more solid and accurate!
I guess Sense was good as well, but these were different times back on the HTC One M7..
There are some similarities with iOS,I can’t say MIUI is a rip off though,in any case!
It has it’s own improvisation and in certain things I even prefer it over iOS.
I just wish they were more consistent with their Android updates, this is what lets many of it’s users down…
You can download the APK for mi camera app. That’s the best option.
You could try lawnchair launcher.
Same here, I love their rom builder.
Bro… it worked! Thanks man… appreciate it.
I buy Xiaomi specially to have MIUI. It’s the only android flavor that doesn’t suck IMO.
The main reason I’m on LOS is smart unlock. Unbelievable this is still not working in MIUI.
I love my mi A1 because it’s not MIUI, it’s nice to know updates are there, and the fake apple aesthetic cheapened the look. The only thing I missed was night mode but that appeared for me after Oreo. I hated the launcher too, always preferred Nova
The split screen feature helps a lot too, you can put youtube on one of them.
But I’m having trouble finding the Options button, on my redmi note 2 I used to hold down the left touchkey and it’d open options on certain apps, I cannot locate this on the miA1.
About the pull down notification, this may help :
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wq.dropdownstatusbar&hl=en
I used to use it on my redmi note when the drag stopped working (not sure if that was hard or software related.. it worked when it wanted to.)
I’m happy enough with mi-globe roms in my mi5.
BTW, why buy Xiaomi if you dislike MIUI. Why not get the A1 or another brand that has stock android?
>full of bugs
Nope. There are several stable Nougat roms for my devices with absolute zero bugs and pretty stable Oreo 8.1 roms (if you exclude native video calling bug). Now, I just can’t imagine going back to MIUI.
* fixed
* Can be changed
* Can be heavily themed to look like stock
* Dunno about that
* Never heard of that before
* Do they ship with root any more? I’d use magisk anyway
Stock ROM good enough for me. Deliver everything that is required.
Because the hardware/price is nice.
I just got Mi A1 and cant express how I miss MIUI. Its 5.5 inch phone I need touch assistant (Im trying to get this via root/xposed or maybe even tasker), but most frustrating thing is not being able to pull down notification bar by swiping from middle of the screen, you need to reach to the top… (and Im not going to pay for nova launcher as I plan to buy Mi7 later).
Good thing I saw post on XDA that people are trying to port MIUI to MiA1 (not 5x rom but MIUI)
Don’t worry, by the Redmi Note 16 Xiaomi will force users to wait 2 years before unlocking the bootloader, so nobody will use custom roms anymore.
Actually quite happy with a non Miui launcher.
I’ve found that if you disable as much as possible in the settings it’s not too bad
nice one. Thank you that’s what I needed.
Well in China, and for some less-fanatic stock fans, MIUI actually looks pretty and works well enough, which is what most users care about anyways
Had mi2s and mi4c. Was updating both phones weekly (well I stoped mi4c at last version based on 5.1 android) and never had any bugs at all either.
Now I have mi a1 and I’m considering whether to try flash mi5x rom even if few things wouldnt work.
I use the Google Camera and it is 10 times better than the MIUI camera.
My main problem are notifications. Having them extended all the time doesn’t work as well as with stock.
I like MIUI, I prefer stock though. The RAM management is a bit too aggressive, but MIUI is very smooth.
