You think it’s better without battery saving mode turned on? (Overall performance/battery drain.)

I never use battery saving mode. At like 7% it begs me to turn it on. Nope nope nope.

    Usually not a problem.

You can look at the apps using battery. The top one is the culprit for that night. I see google play here. Maybe thats it. Why the hell is that using much if any battery sheesh.

Maybe a glitch? A normal reset or a factory reset will fix it hopefully. And you shouldn’t be using power saver mode all day. It bugs your phone. You should try to do those battery saving tweaks manually

I have the same phone as you and that thing happened to me 2 times already, but in my case it went from 100% to 0. In the morning I couldn’t even boot it. Since that happened my battery life (which used to be also around 2 days of it) stopped being that good and it will last a day now.

That’s way too bugged, perhaps youre getting screwed by the battery saving mode. I dont ever switched to battery saving ever, I dont mind charging at night and uses my phone through out the day. And it has been steadily giving me the same battery time

It’s not really about the ROM but the Kernel. Custom Kernels often tweak values around and test them on their devices, but Not every silicon is equal, some simply perform better and efficient while some don’t. They don’t have large variance but Stock Kernels often find a consistent voltage and other values that are most stable. So if one get good battery backup with one ROM with a Modified Kernel, others may or may not. But then again, MIUI 12 with Android Upgrade update is really buggy now. It may be a good temporary solution.

Just an application which needed restarting. Sometimes a bug causes a programm to use a lot of power but still function. Just restart it when that happens. Xiaomi doesn’t seem interested in solving this problem though.

while I was using miui I just used auto power on, since I don’t want my phone to power off if I forgot the time.

anyway now that I’m on a custom ROM I lose literally 0% at the night

edit : also used naptime with miui

I have the same phone, google play services was doing that for a while, I think an update fixed that. Now it has google text to speech engine using up the most battery life. I uninstall updates and clear all data for that app and reboot the phone, but it’s only a temporary fix.

I had the exact same issue
Apparently you have to reset after a major update
Recently (2 days ago) I switched to Evolution X 5.7 and I must say that the performance and battery is really refreshing. I’m getting close to 9h SoT but then again it’s just the beginning. I hope it remains somewhat consistent overall but I guess only time will tell.

I had similar happen with most brands. It’s most often a process that hangs and runs the phone at near 100% load the whole time. A restart normally fixes it.

Battery overcharging was a main reason for root my 9T Pro. Because of root I can install ACCA – Advanced Charging Controller App. All those “battery savers” from Play store are just pile of junk compare to ACCA. Your phone could be connected to power 24/7 but you can set custom charging triggers like from 60% to 80%

Apology for not elaborating by “charging at night” I mean to charge at night until 100% usually after dinner and then use it throughout the night.

The first few days were the hardest to fight the need to charge my mi9t pro when the battery drops to 40%, usually at 2PM – 3PM in the afternoon. But all is good now

The last few Xiaomi.eu ROMs have been pretty weak, battery-wise for me lately.

Well, honestly I do play game 2-3 hours a day and I don’t approve the way battery saving mode impacts my gaming moment. Beside that I use chatting apps like WhatsApp alot throughout the day, some casual browsing Instagram and very little on web browsing.

If you notice when ever we choose optimize battery, miui always recommend to adjust screen brightness and lock screen time. Both of this is directly affected by how bright you set your phone. So my verdict is, the brighter your screen is the more battery consuming it will be.

I don’t constantly readjusting my screen brightness due to I mostly use it on a well lit area. And I’ll just adjust it when it gets too dark on my screen, this habits enables me to fully utilize the phone without constantly needing to charge it.

Apart for some bugs everything is just fine

Get a proper Alarm. Otherwise the phone is great but I don’t like Android 10 because it lost a lot of useful features.

I wouldn’t do that. While I agree on the inconsistency to some extent.

I had the problem like original post too. Phone discharged over night for some reason that was not apparent. This happened I think twice within my year of usage.

Overall battery life decreased over time and came back after update to MIUI 12. I think it’s really hard to pinpoint where exactly this comes where. But if your phone is still relatively new, I will couldn’t put a custom rom on it.

It’s not the fact that it’s plugged in for hours that’s thw problem. Battery controllers don’t let you overcharge the cell. The reason to avoid charging overnight is battery wear. Draining from 100 to about 10 percent and then charging it up to 100 against couns – theoretically – as one charging cycle. A phone battery can manage between 500 to maybe 1000 cycles before it wears and loses 20 percent of its original capacity. Draining from 80 to 40 and then charging to 80 again would count as 0.4 cycles of weary however the connection is not linear, thus this only results in about 0.2 cycles. I made these numbers up based on articles I read, so they may not be too accurate but should give anyone a general idea of how this works. Theres an app called *AccuBattery*, thet giver you an estimate of how worn your battert is, and how many cycles of wear it costs you to charge from x to y percent. Back to the topic, I reckon this is some kind of a bug, had similar experiences but in my case I only lost 15 percent overnight (airplane, battery saver). I would consider resetting the phone, especially if you haven’t reset it since the last time you updated. MIUI can (doesn’t necessarily) do weird things after updates.

I hope your day was well with 5% at the morning.

maybe you can try the app ”naptime” which can force the phone to doze if buggy miui don’t want to. it doesn’t need root but a few ADB commands, thoses are easy to do

You’ll need to look up for apps using location. If this problem occured just recently, it’s best to say that some new app you installed may use the location(which you only see as google play services) heavily

Just google it and you find alot for answers
