**Introduction**
Hi r/xiaomi, I’m a mi fan living in Beijing, China. Some may remember me as I posted my 2017 Mi Notebook Air and Mi Notebook Pro reviews on this sub. This time I’ve secured one of the first batch of the AirDots in the “singles day” (11.11) sale, thanks to the reminder of [this sticky post](https://old.reddit.com/r/Xiaomi/comments/9vui17/megathread_airdots/). The pair of true wireless earphones arrived on Nov 13 2018, two days after I placed the order. ([proof](http://magaimg.net/img/6p1e.jpg))
**Build Quality and Wearing**
To be fair, I had a quite low expectation for the AirDots, since at 199CNY it is priced way lower than the other major competitors, only slightly higher than the 99CNY offbrand “QCY T1”. But the AirDots come way better than I expected, at least on the outside. The exterior is clean and round, everything feels smooth and natural, the build quality truely lives up to the brand.
I put the buds into the charging case as soon as I took apart [the packaging](http://magaimg.net/img/6p2j.jpg) (they came separated in the package), the red lights indicated that they were charging without a problem. ([pic](http://magaimg.net/img/6p2h.jpg)) There is also a charging indicator on the front side of the case, but it only lights up when the case is charging from an outside power source through the micro usb port on the back.
The buds do look a little weird when worn in the ears, especially from the view of a second person by your side. Maybe it was my unusual ear structure that makes them stick out more, as I had similiar problems with the AirPods, but they sure look nothing like in Xiaomi’s posters, although they did stay comfortablely in my ears. I took them out for a 2km walk, then a 1 hour work out at the gym, they stay firmly within my ears and I had zero worries that they would come out.
The package come with two pairs of spare silicone buds, one for smaller ears and one for bigger, though the default medium sized buds fit my ears just fine. As a matter of fact, I fear they fit TOO perfectly, because they are blocking all the noise on the street when I was walking with them. The noise blocking might be a delightful feature for people enjoying music indoors or on a long flight, but could potentially be dangerous if you are walking or traveling on a public transport. If noise penetration is a concern I suggest switching to the smaller silicone buds to see if they helps.
**Controls, Connectivity and Battery Life**
The buds automatically turn themselves off when put in the charging case and turn on when taken out of the case. They also go into pairing mode every time they turn on, but leave pairing mode as soon as they connected to the last device they remembered. There is no “manual” pairing mode and it is virtually impossible to get them to pair with a second device quick enough before they leave automatic pairing mode, the only correct way to pair them is to disconnect them on the first device, then pair with another. I could foresee this be a turn off for multi device users.
Unlike the AirPods, the AirDots can only be controlled through the pressure sensitive backs on both buds, single tap is pause/resume, long press is power off. With an iPad had no problem activating Siri with a double tap, asked her for weather and she replied back to my ears, so I’m taking a wild guess that Android / Chinese MIUI users wouldn’t have a problem with Google Now / Xiao Ai either. I didn’t try answering a phone call with the built in microphone, mainly because I was still having problems with the pressure sensitivity of the backs, as I accidently pause and resume music all the time when I took them out of the case, when I took them off my ears, or even when I tried to adjust the angle they stays in the ears. But whenever I was going to manually power off the buds with long pressing, the gesture only register properly after I tried it multiple times. Until I can get used to the controls, I will use them for music playback only.
There was also one thing I HATED that deserves a separate paragraph. What kind of genius thought it was a good idea to make all the feedback sounds IN CHINESE VOICEOVER ONLY? Almost every other product on the market uses simple beeping patterns to mark events such as power-on, connected/disconnected, and low battery. Only on AirDots are these sounds voiceovers, “Kai Ji” = power on, “Guan Ji” = power off, “Pei Dui Mo Shi” = pairing mode (aka disconnected). This is disgusting even from the perspective of a Chinese user, and definitely a major turn off for people who don’t speak the language.
Oh and by the way, there is actually one beeping feedback for low-battery warning. The beeping sound played three times with a 2 minute gap between, then the buds went off as they ran out of enough battery to sync with each other.
Communication range wise, when paired with my laptop, the AirDots managed to stay connected at a bit longer range than the AirPods, with continuous music playback the buds stayed connected as I briefly left the room for other stuff while staying in the 10 meter range, though a few skipping were observed when there were walls between me and the laptop. With a smartphone or an iPad however, the music start skipping as soon as I move behind a wall, move to the edge of the 10m range, or cover any or my ears fully with my hands, so you better be carrying the device that is streaming music to the earphones with you.
After that I put the AirDots for a latency test with my Max 2 and an iPad. As expected, there were approximately 1 second delay in all sounds when playing a game on any of the two devices, making any rhythm based game or first person shooter unplayable. As for video playback I tested with the Infuse player on the iPad and with MXPlayer on Android, both sync video and audio perfectly with no delay between the two. However, further tests showed other video streaming apps suffer the same sound delay as the games, meaning the result will vary from app to app, and it would be entirely up to the app developers to eliminate the delay for wireless headphones.
The Xiaomi website advertised the battery life of AirDots to be four hours with a full 90 minute charge, I did the full charge as Xiaomi stated and tried continuously streaming music and videos with an iPad, it lasted exact four hours before running out of battery, just like Xiaomi claimed. I didn’t have enough time to test how much juice the charging case can provide, as the test would require multiple charges that last hours.
**Audio Quality**
Now for the most important part (for me at least), the sound quality. As a disclaimer, you should already know that all bluetooth headphones sound bad comparing to their wired counterparts, as listening to one inevitably involves double compressing the original music. If you don’t know this, there are many articles around the Internet that explains this. Compact bluetooth earphones like AirDots and AirPods are the worst kind on the spectrum of bluetooth headphones, so expectations should stay low.
With that said, I was surprised to find the AirDots overall sound crisp, clear and balanced, although slightly lackluster on the bass side. Maybe it was that I got too familiar with the bass-heavy and unbalanced AirPods. Volume also seemed to be louder than most wireless earphones I had used, about 20 percent higher than the already loud enough AirPods.
I compare the sound quality through three different setups. First with the Apple Music Android app on my Mi Max 2 (unofficial Lineage OS 14.1, Android N 7.1), then Apple Music on an iPhone X (iOS 12), lastly some lossless music on my laptop (Kubuntu 18.10, foobar2000 through wine staging 3.20). The music I listened to were mostly pop or pop dance, with a few tracks being pure EDM without vocal.
On Android the sound quality was good enough for a casual listening experience, though I soon realized that some songs felt a bit coarse on the treble and vocal part, while some bass-heavy tracks sound muddy in the drum beats. Comparing to the other two platforms I came to the conclusion that this wasn’t because the AirDots are bad, but the result of the inferior SBC codec used in the early versions of Android combined with compressed audio source (the AAC format that Apple Music uses). Unfortunately I don’t have enough time to flash Android Oreo on the device, which enables codec switching through the development options, maybe someone else could test Android O + AAC bluetooth codec to see if sound quality is improved this way.
On the iPhone my setup utilizes the AAC format both in the audio source, and in the bluetooth codec that the operating system streams to the earphones with. The AirDots sounded perfect and balanced in this setup, definitely on par with, if not better than, the AirPods. Had I not break my AirPods earlier I would put them for a more thorough head to head test, but for now I am happy that the AirDots replace the AirPods for me, with equal or better sound quality.
With the laptop, thanks to the versatile linux operation system and some help from an askubuntu post, I managed to sniff the bluetooth connection through hcidump, confirming this setup utilizes the SBC bluetooth codec. ([pic](http://magaimg.net/img/6p2q.jpg)) Fortunately the audio source can be improved, this time I brought out some lossless albums I ripped from CDs years ago and played them through foobar2000. To my surprise this setup sounded way better than the two previous configurations, with crisp treble and well enough bass. I guess those details got lost through compression to a lossy format, but with the lossless format they can still be heard through the inferior SBC bluetooth codec.
**Conclusion**
Overall the AirDots are nice true wireless earphones for a very cheap price, the build quality is great as other Mi products, it offers competitive audio quality to be used when jogging, at gym workouts or with trips on public transports, and battery life is good as Xiaomi claims. I am so happy that I ordered a pair and they fit my daily usage scenarios perfectly.
**TLDR**
Pros:
* great audio quality with the right sources
* build quality is great and looks fine in person
* communication range is good (ironiclly could be the only perk bt5 brings to the AirDots)
* four hours battery life without recharging
* great value for the price point
Cons:
* music could sound slightly worse with the wrong device / audio format combos
* huge turn off as only Chinese voiceovers are used as feedback sound instead of beeping patterns
* pressure controls are a mess
* no multi source support
(update: for any of you that wants more and cleaner pictures, I found [another review](http://www.52audio.com/archives/10017.html) from the sticky post.)
They never did, 2 weeks after placing the order I asked for a complete refund
So 5 months later lol. Have they shipped? and would you recommend them?
Xiaomi is known for manufacturing products that are not only good in quality but also has aggressive pricing. This time Xiaomi has launched the next generation of True Wireless Earphones that is Xiaomi Airdots Pro. On the first look, it looks like cheap Apple Airpods. I am going to review Airdots Pro and discuss with you whether you should bet your hard earned money on this or not. So, let’s start.
The Xiaomi Mi Airdots Pro comes in white color and looks premium. The earbuds are designed to wear in the “in-ear” pattern which also helps in isolating some of the outside noise. Though the earbuds and the charging dock are made up of plastic, the build quality is good and feels premium while holding. The charging dock is small in size and is lightweight (each earbud weighs just 5.8 grams) and can be easily carried in your pocket. The tip of the earbuds are magnetic and used for charging when put inside the dock.
The charging dock has a pairing button, a charging notification light, and a USB type C port to charge the earbuds as well as the dock. There is a small light on top of the earbuds that lights up when you open the dock which indicates they are powered on and ready.

Can you listen to just one while the other charges?
Did you notice delay while streaming from main video apps, like YouTube or Netflix?
Yes this happens all the time with my AirDots as well, I had to leave them outside they case when not using them.
Tks for the review.
I’ve had mine for a week now and the case finally fully discharged, but I was caught by surprise, I tough the charging led on the case would blind or turn orange/red when the case battery level was low.
Do yours do this or it’s just like mine, one day you will try to charge the earbuds and they simply don’t charge?
Anyone knows if they have his own microphone?
These air dots seem like a dream compared to that drippy, overpriced mess that apple grouges for. Sadly, I cannot seem to find the air dots for $30 anywhere either. [Gearbest.com](https://Gearbest.com) is charging double MSRP. AliExpress isn’t doing much better. In fact, be careful as they are selling “youth” size but you could easily over look it in the description. See IvLoz’s post below. Link is to youth size dots.
Has anyone had any luck finding a place that sells the real deal for their actual MSRP?
I use the MPOW Cheetah. Very nice budget BT. Great battery life for the price. If can get a good seal they have very nice bass as well.
I’ve received my pair today. They are beautiful, all-white, and lightweight. The first time I tried to connect them only the right bud worked. So I had to turn both of them off and turn on again, and it connect right away. The sound quality is actually very good, good bass. The noise cancelling works quite well too. The commands feels a bit weird, but I might get used to it after a while. Overral its great! Totally worth the wait and the price.
Just got mine. It seems there is no “main” earpiece. The first one you take will connect to the phone, and the second one will connect to the other earpiece.
You need, in fact, to pair both the BASIC\_L and BASIC\_R ones to your phone in order for it to connect automatically, whatever the one you take out first is.
No
There is a pairing mode, and their is a touch sensitive spot
I encountered the same issue just this morning and read the manual and a couple chinese blog to confirm. The way to reset the stereo sync would be to 1. Turn off both the pair by applying pressure. 2. Next once both devices are in the off state, turn it on and hold for 10 seconds, this will on off and reset. To make this is done correctly, you would see a flash of white-red-white at the end of the 10 seconds hold. 3. Place the earbuds back to the case and the red charging lights 4. Finally take out the right buds first and then the left buds just a second after. 5. If you did this correctly you would see a white blink that is synchronise between the earbuds 6. Finally connect only the MI AIRDOTS BASIC_R to your phone and it should work
Any word on how to get both of them to work?
Did you figure that out?
Could you help me out? I have them too, but since last night they don’t work properly anymore. As you’ve stated, the right earpiece is the main one which you connect to your device. The left one should connect to the right one automatically. But since this morning they don’t. They do appear separately in my Bluetooth settings on the iPad (MI AIRDOTS BASIC_R and MI AIRDOTS BASIC_L). I think it could be due to a setting like mono instead of stereo. But I don’t have the manual anymore and I don’t speak Chinese. (Currently living in Beijing for an exchange). Could you look in the manual if there is anything about this problem? (Not being able to pare them to each other)
How to sync left and right earpiece
I also bought one. But now the earpiece are working independently
Did you have time to test the call quality? Especially curious how the microphone performs
I tried to cancel my order but the seller have to approve it, I reached with aliexpress support and the are going to get a word with the store but they wouldn’t tell me what would happen next
Mine says “ready for dispatch”. I’ve heard that sellers will sometimes mark the item as shipped, give it a tracking number but won’t ship it until they have the item in hand. Maybe they sold these with out securing stock. I haven’t had any issues with Aliexpress in the past so I’m not too worried.
Also, not sure if you’ve ordered from Aliexpress before, but your tracking number won’t show up on USPS usually until it gets to the US.
Ordered mine on the 14th and it is still processing. According to AliExpress there is three days left before my order is automatically cancelled.
The seller is not responding to my questions.
Same with mine. Ordered on 11.11. Won’t reply to messages and no status update about when it is shipping. Just saw other thread where a guy ordered on 11.13 and they are shipped from the same seller. Wonder how this works🤦🏻♂️
Nope and the seller doesn’t respond to any of my messages
The haven’t shipped it.
Does skipping track also work with Spotify on the Amazfit?
finally, someone else asks this. I don’t mind paying twice more if it’d have some touch control features. although I can control via my Amazfit Bip. so I may still be in for a pair.
Great review, and i really appreciate all the tips that you provided (esp wrt the right earbud being the master earbud). Thanks for the help!
35$
Is there sound leakage?
May I ask how much they were on 11.11?
my MPOWs are in English with a Chinese accent. she sound hot
Can you please share some comparison between the airdot and airpod? Or any other wireless headsets for that matter?
No say! It actually rivaled against the airpod’s quality well enough for you to not remember the difference? That’s crazy! Holy crap! Thanks man, I must get it now.
Did you receive them? Or they have been shipped? I ordered from the same seller, but no update for a week now.
Can someone please explain how to connect this I can only connect 1 earbud at the time it’s so annoying.
Do they ship from AliExpress already? I thought they are just taking order and will ship later on?
between those or Anker Soundbuds slim or Soundcore Spirit Sport, which one would you pick?
Nice review, thanks!
As im a heavy youtube user, i would like to know how is the latency in youtube app on android phones? (bluetooth 4.1)
https://www.reddit.com/r/airdots/comments/9xw0rg/i_was_skeptical_about_the_fit/?st=JOMNWZFB&sh=51a5eff1
Any comparison with qcy t1?
Aliexpress. I bought them on 11/11 for $34 shipped to NY. They shipped but I haven’t received them yet. I would guess about a month for shipping.
Could you compare the sound quality of airDots with Samsung level u pro ???
Is it possible to skip tracks with the gestures, or just play and pause?
I would very much like to know that too
I’m afraid I can’t find them there..
Activate siri/google assistant by double tapping and change without touching your phone 🙂 eg “change volume to 78 percent”
I suddenlynremembered my Xiaomi Sports Bluetooth Headset also had that Guan Ji and Kai Ji response. Good times lol. Might be the reason why I may not pick it up. But who knows!
u/tonyunreal, could you make a photo whilst wearing the headphones? Reviews on the internet say they look larger than on promotional pictures, but don’t provide good photos.
So where are people buying from? And for those who bought already, let us know when you receive please?
woah, that’s hot!
I’m not an expert but it looks pretty goodish, eeh, right?
Thanks for the in-depth review!
Do these flash a LED light every few seconds to indicate it’s on? I hate how almost all Bluetooth headphones I’ve tried do this and it makes it annoying to use in a dark room or in bed at night.
Also, regarding the Chinese VO, did Xiaomi say it’s only available in Chinese? I have a cheap Bluetooth headset (S530) that one time I accidentally switched from English VO to Chinese and it uses the same phrases as in your review. I was able to switch it back following the instructions posted [here](http://www.xpchero.com/product/html/?15.html). Probably won’t work for the Airdots since there’s no pairing mode or a button, but who knows..
I already have similar, individual one, but Airdots have case able to charge them when stored and I hope it means I don’t have to charge them everyday. I could also use them as pair if I want. I guess they will be more versatile than single one.
And they are cheap enough to give a try.
That’s fantastic!
Any voice over annoying imo. I had a led lamp with Bluetooth, it said “POWER ON!” every time I turned on bt and no way to disable or lower it. Bad choice of word, disgusting but it is very annoying.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I suspect the voice language will be used to discourage grey market importing similar to the Mi Box.
Found [a teardown article full of pictures](http://www.52audio.com/archives/10164.html), the chip used in the buds is [the Realtek RTL8763BFR](http://magaimg.net/img/6pjh.jpg) . ([specification paper](https://fccid.io/TX2-RTL8763BA/User-Manual/User-Manual-3804103.pdf))
do they support aptX?
Join r/airdots 🙂
please post some proof 🙂
I’ve never experienced that, they just say it twice for me then the battery goes out.
Because….. I….. didn’t know there was an updated model. And it’s cheaper too, well fuck my life.
Why not get the individual Bluetooth one then?
Edit: https://m.gearbest.com/headsets/pp_009721080870.html?wid=1433363
Mate 9 does support it.
Source: own one and have the 1st gen Bluetooth ones
ah ok, I have a Huawei Mate 9 with Android 8.0, guess it’s not gonna work then, thx for the info.
Nope. I wish they had a gesture for play next.
For Android you need a minimum Android version of 8.1, or have a phone with a specific UI that has that option.
Do they also have any other touch controls like volume or skip track?
That’s great news for one how drive a bike on the right side of the road and needs left ear free 😉
Thanks for the answer.
The right bud is the master one and it will try to connect to the other automatically, but you can use only one of them just fine (leaving the other in the case). It’s impossible to make them individually paired to different devices.
If I leave the right bud in the case and take out the left bud, I can pair my phone with it, but taking out the right bud after that would put the right one into endless pairing mode, with no device able to pair with it.
If I do the opposite and pair with the right bud individually, taking out the left bud will make it connect with the right one at once, making them back to the regular stereo mode.
I appreciate your opinion about the comparison. I didn’t mean the AirPods sounded bad, I was a day one purchaser and been using ever since for two years, I consider the AirPods to be one of the best wireless headphones/earphones I have ever had.
Nor do I view AirDots as a competitor to the AirPods in a serious way, because of the different price ranges and the fact Xiaomi might have something more premium in the works (hence the name “AirDots Youth Edition”). I only did the comparison with AirPods because they are the only wireless earphones I have, well, apart from a sony mw600 from ten years ago.
That is also a really valid point
proof of you having the AirDots?
Yeah I don’t get OP’s rationale. Considering it’s made for China market it wouldn’t make sense to use English instead of Mandarin.
Well I don’t have an aptx-hd capable device (my sister has a OnePlus 6, maybe I can do some test with her phone when I visit the family), but I think the AirDots don’t support standard aptx at least, here’s how I found out.
I installed EHFive’s patch of pulseaudio-module-bluetooth from [his/her repository](https://github.com/EHfive/pulseaudio-modules-bt/wiki/Packages) over my Kubuntu installation, rebooted just in case, then connected to the AirDots.
Here are the dumps from [hcidump](http://magaimg.net/img/6pfd.jpg) and [pactl](http://magaimg.net/img/6pfe.jpg), you can the AirDots was streaming through SBC. In comparison, check the dumps with the b&w p5 wireless and the same laptop: ([pic1](http://magaimg.net/img/6pff.jpg)) ([pic2](http://magaimg.net/img/6pfg.jpg)), you can clearly see that these headphones supported aptx and pulseaudio chose to stream with aptx.
The iPhone X and the new iPad Pro both support bluetooth 5.0, the Max 2 and the laptop are bluetooth 4.2.
I had no problem using them with my Max 2 and my laptop, both support bluetooth 4.2.
AAC in this context has nothing to do with apple per se. It’s a Bluetooth codec. Also AAC support is disabled in MIUI, Pixel etc for examples. But not in lineage. It would make NO sense for xiaomi to use aac and sbc only. I think it supports aptx hd, sbc AND AAC.
The Chinese review says they use aptx HD. OP, are you sure you’re on the ball here? Try to force aptx hd in developer settings and see if it sticks
Which codec is it supposed to use? It can’t be AAC because it’s disabled in MIUI. Finding this information is impossible… I think I’ll cancel my pre order

Nice earbuds, have them about a year, bought 11/11 and had them arrive for xmas!
2 and Half hours of stereo playback, with the charging case providing another hour and half.
Surprised you didn’t pick the updated model? [http://www.qcy.com/product/95.html](http://www.qcy.com/product/95.html)
Where;
I don’t see the Chinese voiceovers as a disadvantage actually, they’re kind of cool (learning some Chinese would be cool too). But thanks for the review. I have a pair of havic that are a bit more expensive but they’re waterproof with interchangeable earbuds, I don’t know how or why anyone would chose apple’s airpods over them.
Not too sure how having a chinese voiceover is disgusting tbh…
Have you tried using spotify? How does hip-hop music sound with these?
There has been no cut-outs or lag ?
You prefer these over Airpods?
This and most likely faster connection, better audio quality and maybe battery life.
I recently got the Jabra elite 65t for $100, with tax $110, but thinking of returing them for these.
I think English VOs would be coming shortly after it was the same issue with the mi band being originally only in Chinese. A later firmware update changed it to English and no APK alteration would be needed. Not sure how it would update though. Maybe international users should wait for either to released in English.
Thanks for your time to give us this detailed review, too a banana for scale is a plus in everywhere.
Great review man, keep up the good work. I was eyeing on these buds myself, since I work with Chinese and accessibility is a no problem for me whatsoever.
Do you guys think AirDots will work properly with all functions connected to device with bluetooth 4.2 while AirDots have 5.0?
25.50€. woot.
How were these for your workout? You dint have any feeling that they were falling? How about sweat affecting them?
I have a pair of blutooth headphones i got on ebay from AWEI, they also have chinese voice over but i can change it to english. Problem with them is that they are attached by wire and sweat gets into the control switch that lays behind my neck and screws with it. Also the wire is annoying when I squat.
These are more preferable?
Wonder if it’s possible to do firmware updates to change the internal language?
After reading this review this is only thing that is stoping me from ordering AirDots. Xiaomi already became well known brand in west and they need to stop making products that are oriented only to China market.
I’m waiting for someone to compare these with some of the other products on the market. I, for one, absolutely LOVE the Soundcore Liberty Air. They fit great, sound good, and I get at least 5 hours on a single charge. Been using them for about a week and the only small complaint is that maybe 3 times during the week I’ve had them disconnect the left bud for a couple seconds and then it comes back. Couldn’t be happier, although they’re definitely more spendy at around $75.
This is what i call a good review!
I think you can edit the bluetooth codec from the “Developer options” in android.
Exactly, that’s why I stopped using my old ones by PaMu. The left one was the receiver, so it was possible to take them out, pair them and then put the right one back in the case. Not very useful in a right-driving country, tho
The Budweiser speakers…
Great review!! Much love! <3
Looks like I'll finally get a replacement for my [wireless buddies](https://www.gearbest.com/bluetooth-headphones/pp_638011.html?vip=14676049&gclid=CjwKCAiArK_fBRABEiwA0gOOc_tTzXuqv-fVLxdT3ld1ev9TjmQofeSp0Ty7ifp0t9xUeneyNXxTVRoCvJsQAvD_BwE)
So far the worst part of AirDots seems the lack of volume control and track switching, at least for me
I’ve had them pre-ordered since 11th but it looks like it’ll take AWHILE to get to Russia :C
oh and for low battery warnings, aside from the beepings, does it display it’s battery level on the phone? I’ve read somewhere that said it does on iPhone, what about Androids? cheers
I’m not much interested in Airdots but man, your review is absolutely great! Thanks for this nice read!
thabks for the review, been eagerly searching for an honest review since I bought it on Aliexpress, one question though, does it support aptx?
Nice, thanks for your review I guess I’ll buy them
I have already ordered the QCY Q29 Pro instead of these because I heard the battery sucks….. Guess that ain’t true.
I agree 100% on that, but for future reference he could definitely think twice before using words that does not belong in this context.

You ordered it from where?
What you probably should have mentioned is that neither of your devices support Bluetooth 5.0. Thus (hopefully) the latency, not that good range and probably a lower runtime.
deleted ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^0.7450 [^^^What ^^^is ^^^this?](https://pastebin.com/FcrFs94k/48560)
Is there a review on the clarity of the Mic?
If you have the time could you please test out something like Skype or some other form of video call?
The 1 second delay might be a little off putting and also this way you’re able to test the mic quality.
Thanks 😀
They do, I opened the case and held it upside down, the buds stayed with the case.
>his is disgusting even from the perspective of a Chinese user, and definitely a major turn off for people who don’t speak the language.
Why tf is it disgusting? Annoying, yes, but disgusting? I agree beeping pattern would be better, but to be fair I think mandarin sounds a lot better than english?
Good point. I wonder if I could use them to listen to audiobooks when on the bike using just single earphone so I can still hear the traffic.
It they can’t be used individually then they’re not for me 🙁
A very well written review I must say! Thanks a lot!
I ordered them on 11.11 via Gearbest. Can’t wait for them to be shipped.
Have you tried the T1’s? What’s more comfortable?
Great detailed review., much appreciated!
I’ve had Chinese “speaking” Bluetooth headphones before and you get surprisingly used to it and understand what it all means just by habit.
Agree that beeps and notes would be better but I wouldn’t worry!
Really great review.
Do they pair individually to the phone? can I charge one in the case while using another?
Or are there a master and slave pairing.
SBC is still the default on O
This is a fantastic review, wtf
Have you tried using Viper on Android to boost the bass?
Also I thought Android 7.1 allowed you to change Bluetooth codecs in Developer options
I’m using AOSP Android 8.1 Treble, and while I have the option to change Bluetooth codecs, it only lets me select SBC still
I also doubt we’ll ever be able to change the software side of the earbuds
I’ll be getting mine when my parents go to HK next week, can’t wait
You should see the Bluetooth headphones by Xiaomi, which are still connected to each other via cord.. They even play a Chinese voice when Batterie is low. Every 5 minutes for half an hour…
Anyway, thanks for the feedback, will try out.
It was my speculation, I don’t actually know it was SBC or AAC, but the AirDots sound better with an iOS device, how else would it be explained? Most premium headphones I know support the AAC codec when connected to an iOS device (per specifications). As for the Macs, I had a similiar experience with it only supprting SBC, but my mac is 7 years old and I did’t put too much thought to whether it was a hardware limitation or an intended design in the operating system.
I had a bluetooth speaker with english voiceover in a french accent. It was funny at first but man it got annoying.
I had drops out with the Apple AirPods when I jogged with them, I though it was interference. These days I usually work out indoors at the gym, and I haven’t had a drop out problem with the AirDots yet.
Hi, thanks for the detailed review. I have a question though: how can you be sure that the headphones are using AAC when connected to iOS? Usually when those kind of headphones rely on SBC on Android (so no aptX and no AAC) they would fall back on SBC on iOS as well. I didn’t find a way to check on iOS the codec used in the active Bluetooth connection, can you tell me how did you check for AAC? I can only do that on macOS, and in my experience basically only AirPods use AAC, all the other headphones either use aptX (supported on macOS, not sure about iOS) or fall back to the mandatory codec of their Bluetooth specification
Well, now I’ll be getting mine. Thanks for reviewing!
There is no volume control function on the AirDots, you have to change it from the phone.
Have you experienced any dropping of connection from one side? I’ve had a couple of TWS earbuds and the left earbuds always randomly lose connection, especially when jogging.
Thanks for delivering on that excellent review [u/tonyunreal](https://www.reddit.com/user/tonyunreal)!
I’m persoanlly surprised about the cons list, my expectations were that it’d be longer, so all good!
Not sure if SBC is still the default codec used even in O and higher, but that’s something easy to change atleast. Just a quick question regarading the chineese voiceover only – are those played only in those 3 scenarios and not for other activies such as volume up/down? Also, does to volume adjust if you change it from the phone, or you *have to* use the pressure controls?
Thank you for your review
I already ordered mine and just read about those chinese voice over controls, well fuck it i guess, maybe try and learn some chinese to get something out of it
