Pie’s app launching animation is pretty decent but MIUI’s closing animations are dope
I agree on blandness on stock, but how is MIUI more dynamic? It’s literally just a simple, boring scaling animation. On stock it scales AND crops the app as it grows/shrinks making it far more dynamic.
Subjective. Android’s is pretty bland, but this is like iOS’s and is dynamic.
To be honest, stock Android’s cropping animation on Pie looks a lot cleaner :/
the wheel looks great, but the usability is another topic I agree 😀
Lol you actually bear with that? Just clear data of the ‘System Launcher’ app and reboot. Your problem will be solved 🙂
Part of the annoyance is when you change launcher , yet the app animations still start and close from where they would be in Mi launcher…
Frustrating to say the least. I had forgotten about it , until i checked this thread 😀 …
Oh sorry! For some freaking reason I read it fast and thought you wanted to speed up animations🤦🏼♂️
What I meant with slowing animations down was having the original animations play at a slower rate, basically slow motion, like your post here.
Reduce motion replaces everything with a simpler fade effect.
What? You haven’t tried Evie? I use Evie with ‘Miui Pixel Icon Pack’. It looks *dope* . Here’s my home screen:

I haven’t tried evie. Poco puncher was decent. Its the closest you can get to miui with an aoop drawer. Otherwise I use nova
Stock is just horrible. No app drawer, no icon pack support, ugly AF, etc… What’s your favourite launcher? I love Evie as it has amazing search and looks great.
Haha yeha I switched launchers pretty quick. I wanted to use stock but I just couldn’t do it.
Thanks, I tried Nova but it has really basic animations like slide down – Nothing close to MIUI’s iOS like ones. As for the mods, most of them crash phones a lot. Btw, how on Earth could you not notice those animations lol! Unfortunately though, those cool animations are useless to me even on MIUI as I use Evie. The stock launcher *sucks*
I believe Nova can, I know there are rooted mods as well. Maybe we just have different tastes and I don’t notice it as much haha. I like a lot of things about miui but I honestly never notice animation on it.
WHAT? REALLY?
I’ve been looking forever for a launcher that does this, but ended up thinking launchers couldn’t control animations. Which launcher is it? This imho is the only thing I like about MIUI
Yeah but it almost disappears
I’ve seen custom launchers that do ones like this before. It’s cool and all but especially at normal speed you pretty much can’t tell anything.
That doesn’t slow down animations, it reduces them to a simpler animation.
I just mean in terms of crappiness.
Wat? 2009 Android cupcake had some kinda blink animation. I’ve used almost every version. Don’t make up things 😉
You can slow down animations on iOS. I do that on my iPhone. I don’t remember exactly but Settings – General – Accessibility – Reduce Motion I think.
Lol look at stock Android you’ll vomit.
No. It looks bad. Looks like 2009 Android
With standards so high, if you look at stock Android you might vomit. It just has basic open and slide down to close animations. MIUI’s not as good as iOS but sure is cool.
region on the phone was India. Users in Phillippines are lucky then, cause this is apparently part of the monetisation strategy by Xiaomi India ([link](https://gadgets.ndtv.com/mobiles/features/miui-ads-manu-kumar-jain-xiaomi-interview-1992362))
At least it looks way better then stock Android, but not as good as iOS.
Not when they’re fast
Lol it’s looks great when fast.
It’s slowed down. When it’s fast it looks cool.
Whats your region? I’ve never heard anyone here in the Philippines getting any ads.
I have used a redmi phone for a day out of the box, and there were *a lot* of ads, in the notification panel, in file manager, in default apps etc. (I did not make any changes to settings as it was not my phone). I’m surprised you’ve not seen screenshots, as i’ve seen a bunch posted in this very sub.
As to your other point, yes there are other ROMs that can be installed, but some people aren’t technically literate enough or want to take the trouble of flashing etc.
Tbh, it doesn’t look great. Who want to wait that much to open the app every time lol
I don’t really get this MIUI is bad because ADs thing. Most people never get ads. I haven’t even seen a screenshot of these ads from those who *claim* to get them and even then, there’s Global and EU of MIUI that has zero ads.
It’s not dope when your device actually performs like this
Not sure what is so “dope” about this. These animation just waste your time.
What is this? 2009 jailbreaking?
I was expecting a lot more. The animations are fairly average really.
I know, I usually set it to 0.8x. It’s fast, and also looks great.
Lol
Depends on the region, I have it set to Sweden and I’m not seeing a single ad.
Now i regret buying the pure Google version
Go to developer options from settings and set the animation scale to 1x or 0.5x.
Calculator sure I guess, I could tolerate the lack of style, but I loathe AOSP’s stupid pinwheel dial things for the clock.
that’s true, and to a reasonable extent I wouldn’t mind paying the premium.
didn’t they add it to the settings app also? unfortunately no alternative to that….but i guess it can be disabled, but still annoying.
If xiaomi didn’t have ads in their phones they would be way more expensive
The ads subsidise the cost of the hardware of the phone, kind of like how amazon does with some models of Kindles. I understand the business model, and the need for it, I just would like the option to buy ad-free (like how amazon offers).
you can read this article for more information https://www.theverge.com/2018/9/19/17877970/xiaomi-ads-settings-menu-android-phones
For me it doesn’t do that. On calls it only shows me the base color of the app, then the letter shows up later
🙏🙏🙏
Why should you pay more? This is stupid!Aren’t you alredy paying for the phone?
[Here’s a video of it from WWDC.](https://twitter.com/stroughtonsmith/status/1005355088368603136?s=19)
That’s not how you make good product. “God is in the details”.
you can install the clock and calculator apps from Google in the play store too, so no problem
Why not? iOS does something like that but without dancing icons.
I wouldn’t say that.
This by far the easiest
It certainly could be better, but the devs at Xiaomi don’t care and won’t waste their time with that because you won’t even notice it in daily use.
It isn’t. That’s just how it looks in slow motion. You won’t realise it when normally using your phone.
Wait for real? Do you have the documents which note that? Very interested
Funny how they broke it 5 versions ago and now introduce it again though haha
Dude, there are tutorials on how to disable ads in MIUI. It takes about 5 minutes to do so.
Don’t believe the negative hype.
They actually reintroduced being able to interact with apps during animations and also to be able to interrupt animations as they’re happening in iOS 12.
It’s unfortunate you can’t slow down animations on iOS.
The use of zoom in, zoom out, is a copy from what was first seen on iPhone. I don’t think they patented it. But did you notice the animation on the icons , while doing this? That is not on iPhone, and that is a better part.
Difference being is that the animations on iPhone are blocking while on Android/MIUI touch input during these animations is still supported
The length of the blocking animations in iOS was seriously the last drop that made me move. You’d press something but it wouldn’t load until every last pixel was finished animating.
This happened on iOS7 (it didn’t do this before that) when they gave Springboard a flat design and still was there when I left on iOS 10. If they’ve fixed it let me know
All good, I run Mi Room which already has a good level of debloating 🙂
Install Xiaomi.eu ROM. It’s a debloated version of MIUI, ad-free.
Lol don’t think they’d ever do that. Btw, if you don’t wanna waste your time debloating, just disable notifications for those apps.
What?
🤔
🤨
Ohh!
😂🤣🤣😂😂🤣😂😃😄😅😂
Wait I’m laughing at my self 😑
Indeed, there are way better alternatives to those anyway. But if they start putting ads in the Clock or Calculator then I will be annoyed haha
Wat?
Lol no, but I don’t like animations for two reasons – it wastes many seconds of waiting, and it eats a tiny bit more battery. I want things to be as fast as possible, it’s a really simple trick to make the UI seem super fast on any phone.
Yes you can turn the animations off completely too, but that just looks bad. An extremely fast transition is much better than no transition at all IMO.
Do you have some kind of slow mo eyesight? I can’t even see animations at that speed. I’m feeling jealous of you😒
Oh I forgot to include the browser. Just delete Mi Apps, Music, Browser and Video and you should be good to go 🙂
They look even better when set to a scale of 0.1
I’m not an idiot – The Redmi Note 3 with a MediaTek SoC also had custom ROMs, but only after almost 2 years. Hoping custom ROMs are made fast for this. Before I bought it, I checked XDA and there *is* some work going on. But il mostly junk this phone by then cause it sucks.
Have an upvote for your hilarious mockery of this pointless argument haha (former custom ROM user turned MIUI user, here)
Not true, there are more. I’m in Australia, and I started getting ad notifications from Browser. That was literally the only ad I saw though, and is an easy fix.
Lol are u talking about that MIUI vs Custom ROM debate? 🤣🤣 Of course I use Custom ROMs on all my devices except this idiotic Redmi 6 as it uses an assholic MediaTel SoC. Still, I’ve got it rooted and debloated. The MOMENT a custom ROM comes out for this (if it ever does), buggy or not, I’ll be flashing it. After that debate it should’ve been obvious to you that the only thing I like about MIUI is the animations and the notification bar. I’m waiting, just WAITING to get rid of it😩
It’s SUPER EASY to debloat MIUI. You don’t need root nor an unlocked bootloader. Just Google MIUI debloat reddit. There’s some tool you can use on your PC to debloat it using ADB. If you uninstall MIUI’s idiotic deafult App Store, Music & Video apps, you won’t see ads.
Why people bother so much with ads, I don’t get it. Turn off ads are extremely easy, almost like set dark mode when you install any new app. And you could also debloat/disable them to use alternative.
Slowed down animations look slow?? Well I never… What’s the world coming to?
Set region to Europe, goto each MIUI App and switch off advertising. Or just don’t use the MIUI Apps…
If MIUI had an option to pay more to get an ad-free experience I would definitely go for a Redmi. (not because of animations, but because of all the little useful additional features that they have)
Obviously
Of course I have! This is MIUI’s attempt to copy iOS’s animations.
I’m guessing you’ve never use an iphone
