Is it just me or does the icon set in MIUI 8 is the same as in MIUI 9 ?
(I notice a slight difference in just the camera icon).

The chart is wrong, MIUI 9 did change the icons. I think they look even better now.

Xiaomi themselves said (paraphrase:) There is not a big difference in the design as the design is already flawless. I honestly think they’re right, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. They offer a couple new themes if anyone wants a new look but miui 8 already got it right.

It is clearly a path of progress.

However since the introduction of Material Design all non-material stuff looks really alien in Android, and MIUI is not an exception. So while Xiaomi have obviously improved their icons over the years they are doomed to have that “something is not quite right here” feel. Well, if you don’t run any third-party apps you won’t notice it, but is there any point in using Android then?

I was on the Nexus train many years, i had every single Nexus untill Nexus 6p.

Many many bugs, many hardware issues never solved, etc

Happens everywhere, not only on Xiaomi devices.

Yup, all basically the same. IMHO though the icons right now look pretty damn good. Some people like things to always be different but change for the sake of change isn’t always the best option.

Also the new “Limitless” icons seem like a nice option if you’d like to shake it up a little.

I am both a nexus and a xaiomi user. I assure you that miui has bugs that will make you feel like slamming your phone to the wall. Though installing a custom rom is a more effective option

    eeerm, nope.
Custom roms on Xiaomi without sources is a no-no, i had installed los on my Redmi 3/redmi note 3 and graphics performance was terrible, camera was unstable.

I didnt really meet any serious bugs, nothing more serious than what i met on Nexus devices anyway

Well, they do bring split-screen mode to all MIUI 9 devices. That’s quite an accomplishment, looking that some of the devices are running ancient Android 4.4

    No they are not.
I just sold my mi5s one month ago.

Bugs are everywhere, also graphics performance is worse. Not even battery life is better.

Custom rom is not worth it on xiaomi devices.

There is actually a different icon set for MIUI 9, which you don’t see until you switch to the ”Limitless” theme. There is also a MIUI 9 Icon pack in the Play store which has the limitless icons.

Have you even tried MIUI 9 or are you just basing that on the icons?

MIUI 9 is extremely smooth compared to 8, the new recents app switcher is so much better than the laggy mess that it was before.
