So I’ve been using miui 12 on my mi 9 for one day, these are what I think I’ve noticed:
1. Battery drain isn’t that far off from miui 11. Especially if u don’t use super wallpapers
2. Super wallpapers make the animations feel jerky. It’s cool and all but immediately noticed the difference when I don’t use them today
3. Floating window is super fun
4. Animations are really pretty without lag
5. Some 3rd party things like new spotify widget in notifications panel looks so good
6. Control center is really easy to get used to
Would like to know your experiences too 😀
(edit: the ui is still far from butter smooth like ios or one ui but the animations just makes me want to go back to the homescreen and play with gestures for fun)
I am experiencing the same lag when switching apps or going home. Did you short it out or got used to it? By the way, with POCO launcher, gestures revert to the MIUI11 ones.
You mean the new one? I’ve been using a 3rd party launcher since day one (Nova Launcher Pro) and I’m using gesture navigation, everything works perfectly, same as if I were using the default launcher.
Try this workaround.

A maybe battery drain related difference between 11 and 12 is, that the cleaning widget on 12 is cleaning automatically. I can see it “wiping” on its own. Don’t know if that makes a huge difference but it can’t hurt trying.
Nova launcher, the new swiping between apps gets disabled, but the old hold to switch works
really? what launcher are u using?
If you use a 3rd party launcher the old gestures will work
4,5h on LTE and on standby for the whole day is not bad for 3300 mAh battery IMO.
But it doesn’t change a fact that now I get about 60% of that, which is bad.
No, I didn’t. Seems like I’ll give it a try but I promised myself not to root, install custom ROMs this time. I’m too old for this 😀 I just want the phone to work.
I’m using poco F1, currently in doubt if it necessary to upgrade to 12
I;m not saying MIUI 12 is not optimized but made it possible for some app to consume a lot of battery and as I see on wakelock manager something keeps the phone awake for 51% of the time for the last week. And unfortunately I have a hard time finding the reason for it 🙁
Am i the only one who’s been experiencing the screen randomly locking?
anyone who pays them.

You think they are biased? Toward whom?
My 8/128 Mi9 battery is bad with facebook and messenger do things update and notification in background process alot but afer making the app not running in background battery is normal
For me it’s app that not optimize more than miui
their camera reviews are as reliable as Oem’s own marketing campaigns.
DXOMark begs to differ

I ran into a similar kind of problem but on MIUi 11, (i use a K20 Pro, some system app was always running in the background consuming a lot of battery, you should check in the battery usage section , maybe you’re having the same problem, after I factory reset my phone, everything went back to normal.
I guess i will be having the miui12 update in time for the miui14 rollout 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤔🤔🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️ (xiaomi mi 9t global here edit: miui11 11.0.6.0 here)
What? 😀 Did you even tried roms like DerpFest or Havoc?
My bad act what i meant was third party things. Since spotify is a 3rd party app
Yep. And Microsoft Launcher too.
With Nova? When I tried them they’d jost lopp the animation over and over.
Great 😍 Thank you! Looking forward to it.
Go to settings -> Special app access -> battery optimization and filter by not optimized. One by one optimize the apps listed (exclude messaging apps in case notifications are not pushing through)
Because MIUI has far more functionality than stock?
Exactly the same for me and my Mi9, I thought it was my battery dying which is why I replaced it with a Poco F2 pro
I think the gestures limitation is because of Google. Google’s new Android 10 gestures only work with stock launchers on every brand of phone, so I guess Xiaomi reverts to their own gestures on any third party launcher.
I like the new camera app. It seems to be considerably better than the MIUI 11 version.
In my experience super wallpapers work with third party launcher
If you use a third party launcher you can still have this one.
You can turn it off in Settings -> Notch & status bar -> Use new Control center.
So far this update has been really good except for a few but that I wish will be corrected in further updates
The only few things that confuses me are:
– You can’t decide anymore whether you want to show all your notifications on the status bar or not, it’s limited by default
– I’m really not a fan of the new swipe to previous app gesture with the full screen mode, MIUI doesn’t give you the choice to choose the previous way from MIUI 11, however if you change your default Homescreen to POCO Launcher or another it comes back ?
Aside from that I’m really satisfied with this update so far, Super Wallpaper works super well, the new medias tab in the notification shade is godlike and the animations looks so much better, note on the battery which seems slightly better than on MIUI11 but still drains with Bluetooth on
I’m using a MI9T Pro EEA btw.
I always set all 3 of the animation scales to 0.5….
Makes the phone seem more snappier
But in miui 12 even that doesn’t work.
The animations still look kinda slow.
And also they should add more options like 0.25 or 0.75 something like MASIK rom
What do you mean with the third party Spotify widget? Can I see a screenshot?
Same for me
When i switched from stock to miui 11, i missed it.
I had an app (baconreader) that previously showed a white screen for a quarter of a second before coming up with the dark design.
Now when opening there is no white screen anymore, so this is really an improvement.

Im not sure but spotify looked bad on miui 11. Now the widget follows the colour of the album colour on lockscreen and noti shade. Really neat!
Could you link me The website? Thanks!
Well…yeah…still got back for a “clean” android. Cepheus is a great piece of hardware so why killing that potential with miui?
Well I use k20 pro seems its the opposite of what you stated . I have even stopped using super wallpaper and it’s still terrible ?
Side note, you can download it via mi website.
How about the camera app? The one in MIUI 11 is abominable (coming from Huawei).
How can you change it back?
MIUI is a heaping pile of shit anyways. Flashed different ROM the moment I could
Despite me using the phone mostly as it is, iOS is still too restrictive to me. I don’t like people telling me “i choose decision A for you, it’s the best and you’re going to be happy with it”. I know they’re probably right, but i prefer to have options.
Also, the people who bought xiaomi probably cannot afford iPhones. my choice at the time was either getting a refurb iPhone 8 or mi 9T. There’s just so much that xiaomi offers i just can’t take iPhone 8.
The design is good. Yes it ~~copied~~ “inspired” by iOS. But that doesn’t mean that it’s a bad design.
is it coming for the Mi9 lite?
I’m really not a fan of having notification and quick settings in different panel
On a Mi 9 as well. Everything seems fine except switching between apps. After using the new gesture to go back to an app, the app you switch back to lags for a bit. There is also a rare bug were it gets confused when using gestures and the app doesn’t select correctly. Nothing I can’t deal with.
* MIUI switching to the stock persistent Media Notification is by far the best change. Not only does it look great; it also has extra functionality like the seek bar.
* Battery seems the same, maybe even better when the phone is on standby.
* Forced darkmode is really cool. Tinder Dark Mode!
* A ton of stuff like the new animations, Super Wallpapers, the new app switcher, etc, won’t work unless you use the stock launcher. That’s fine, but I’d rather keep using Nova.
* Floating window feels useless and gimmicky.
* I’ve noticed that Reading Mode doesn’t activate anymore depending on the time of the day like it used to. Anyone else having this problem?
* Dualshock 4 *still doesn’t fucking work* with the PS4 Remote Play app.
Hey, what region are you in? I’ve still not gotten the update on my Mi 9 🙁
Thanks
u should be getting it dont worry.
I found that settings for default apps were lost. Had to set it new.
RIGHT?!?!?! i love spotify so much now
The thing that bothers me about MIUI 12 is the fact that getting from the control center to the new notification panel takes two swipes. I assume that’s not that big of a deal?
But will i get it eventually from xiaomi? or do i have to get it myself from some shady websites
Spotify looks sooo good now in notifications and lock screen.
Control Center would be better to use from right side pull.
im not sure bro maybe i havent actually looked for differences. ill uldate if i noticed stg
I have the exact opposite it seems, my battery drain significantly increased, by like 30% at least.
Mobile data and location is always on, wifi and bluetooth almost always off. I even use dark mode everywhere I can.
Very interesting.
maybe you can look for it on xda or something. i dotn wanna be responsible aha
I liked the old hold swipe to switch better
I am not replying because it is MIUI, i would have replied the same if i saw that type of comments on IOS, one UI,etc.
I have not said things like MIUI is superior.
But, every other skins do the same thing. So, using custom ROM is the only way you can experience something new.

yup theyre really cool!
That thing is not there in the indian version I don’t know why.
I am not a MIUI fan, i was just replying because his reply was exact opposite and with nonsense reasons like “don’t care”. He may have said “battery drain” “animation lag” etc.
I am using MIUI and EMUI and I don’t care as long as it is Android since we can use custom ROM. But since Huawei now has made unlocking bootloader impossible for free, I fucking hate Huawei and don’t like MIUI.
I didn’t like his reply, that’s it.
9t pro
1: battery drain is cut in half – 70% remaining instead of 35% – it is awesome – with activ superwallpaper
2: nothing but smoothness
the rest: i agree
+ better bluetooth connectability on tws+ earbuds
Where can i manually download it?
Why my mi9 still dont have miui 12 update ?
How about Dark Mode 2.0?
I’m experiencing zero of these issues. My phone is faster than ever even with the super wallpapers
Miui12 is trash and not ready animations are laggy phones overheat and ram management is fucked
I’m from malaysia 🙂 it hasnt come to me too, but i manually downloaded it. Idk why xiaomi havent released it yet maybe theyre tuning things out? If youre too eager to try u can manually dl it. But to me, it’s fine to wait a lil there arent much groundbreaking things that makes u wanna say bye bye to miui 11. It’s mostly aesthetical improvements
any idea when it will be released for note 9s ?!
I’m a global mi 9 user. I manually downloaded it maybe if a version is available u can try it as well?
Oh okay that was it! Simple 🙂 Thank you man
MIUI 12 is beautiful.
Gotta agree on this. They will need to do refinements to smooth out things. Right now i think miui 12 eats plenty of ram and processing. Theyll need to do something
I havent even got it yet on a fucking note 10
Yes i can! If this helps, maybe you’ve been swiping from the notification panel? I’ve swiped down whenever a notifications from a messaging app pops out and it works! Maybe give it a try again some other time
Used the beta for a couple hours. Noticed a ton of useless and sketchy permission pop-ups and then reverted to LineageOS 17.1 without Google Services.
May not have a ton of eye candy, but seems to be a lot more private.
I’m not too sure but i’m someone who games a lot and the battery life to me seems just the same whether it’s miui 11 or 12. I’ve tried reducing gaming on a single charge and the results seems pretty similar to me. Battery on the mi 9 IS really small tho kinda wish it was bigger
I think that’s a way to look at it. But to me everything just seems more fluid and i like it. No offense tho if u dont like it ppl prefer different things right?
Anyone else facing issues while revoking permissions for Xiomi apps like Calendar, Cleaner? I’m not able to deny any permission after the update
There was nothing elitist about that comment
For me battery life on Mi 9 is just… bad.
I get 3h of SOT on LTE where I used to get at least 4-4,5 on MIUI 11. I thought this might be caused by Super Wallpapers so I just use normal one but it’s not really helping. It’s just impossible to make it through the day without charging. Sure, this version looks great and I love all the features but I’m starting to think about installing Pixel Experience ROM and check if anything changes. Or maybe clean install could help but that’s just not a way it should work…
No need to be an elitist. You are still given the options to use the standard pixel like features.
“Floating window is super fun”
Have you tried it swiping down from a notification? I can’t do it, and I practiced on the tutorial!
I am just telling my preferences.
Whats the problem with that?
You have any problem?
The OP post is asking what others experience and I just telling mine.
You commented like you wanna be exactly opposite of what OP said.
Im just replying to OP. Its my opinion.
Why are you affected?
Its up to you what are your preferences.
Dont bash or bully anybody here.
You can change control centre back to normal.
For everything else, it is far more unique than ios.
You can change themes which will change icons, notification style and even boot animation as well as boot sound.
Then what do you care about? calculators?
You are saying “not a fan” which i don’t have anything to say. and then you say “don’t care”. Its like you are good even with Android 5.
Yeah sometimes i completely forgot about that. But it’s a great addition nonetheless!
I’ve had a hard time getting used to the new swiping between apps
I like the super wallpaper wish there is more options though, dont mind the new control panel.
Don’t notice any difference in animation.
Im using Poco Launcher.
Did you not buy ios because of the ui or price? If me i’d take ios any day because of the refinements. Theyre too expensive though
Good to know, ppl have different preferences. How’s ypur experience with the animations though?
1. superwall paper, not fan of it.
2. floating window, don’t care.
3. control center, ugly for me.
