In my opinion this is one of the best devices I’ve owned. Coming straight from Nexus/Pixel phones but wanting a change these are great, I’ve personally flashed Evolution X over MIUI 11 but I could have easily stayed with that. Camera in my experience is great and the screen is clear. Only thing to be clear on is the single speaker on the bottom, otherwise a fantastic phone…
How can I disable miui optimization? Can’t find it.
Mine is Redmi Note 4 Android 7.0 miui 11 working too good
Weird. After a while using MIUI 11, my phone suddenly got smooth animations. I don’t remember getting any updates, but the lag somehow went away over time.
Bottom of developer options
I’ve noticed that my Mi 9t Pro has started suffer with laggy animations over the last 2 days. I’ve only had the phone just over a week
cant find it on Redmi note 7 on miui 11 i think they removed it
Weird. But maybe
the problem i think is poor optimization. Doesn’t happen on other manufacturers i tried over the years.
This.
Yes i knew that. I prefer buttons though.
No, what i mean is the MIUI 10 on a much weaker hardware runs better than MIUI 11 on much powerful hardware even though it supposed to be an upgrade.
I didn’t noticed any difference on my mi9 se
Actually… …yeah dude i feel ya. SD 845 is also 3 times more powerful.
The redmi note 7 is on 0.5x. still feels eh tho, dropping frames.
Exactly why i didn’t install custom rom. Awesome but unreliable. If you have the official ROM you can bitch to Xiaomi about it 😜
720 x 1080 vs 1080 x 2340 screen.
Screen record vs video record.
This comparison make no sense.
> 0.5
That may be your problem. Set them back to 1x.
How does one do that
Besides losing DTTW and tap to pay w/ Google Pay, any other downsides?
It doesn’t has big screen water drop notch outdated camera no HDR10 support cheap plastic body… RN8PRO gives equal performance to POCOF1 in terms of gaming. You can play em at same highest settings. Other than fortnite ofcourse where it’s epic at poco and high at RN8PRO. That’s it.
I don’t understand why two different devices are compared – redmi 4x and redmi note 7 and on different versions of MIUI. You put on redmi 4 x miui 11 and compare them. Perhaps the hardware on redmi 4x is optimized much better than redmi note 7.
Because I bought redmi notes 7 on android 9 and miui 10 and I really did not like the problematic animations and gestures. Then the update came on miui 11 and if you compare with the previous miui 10, redmi note 7 became a little faster and the animations became smoother but the gestures were still buggy. Now Android 10 is installed on beta miui 11 and it has become much better than it was.
We must ask the xiaomi developers why they release phones like hot cakes and do not do optimization!
**Sorry for my English!**
I personally don’t like Waterdrop Notches
I like the fat Notch
Camera is still comparable to N8 Pro
There’s HDR support
Cheap plastic body is still more durable than Glass
The only thing that bothers me is the big-ass Chin at the bottom!
Interesting. I’m on a Mi 8 but with Pixel Experience ROM because I don’t like MIUI in general so I have no idea how buggy it is.
This is for developer options correct?
What do you mean EVEN on weaker hardware?
This is expected, newer software ALWAYS runs slower on older hw.
Yeah. Memory management also seems worse.. have to reboot every few weeks because it doesn’t gig cleaned properly.
Same it feels very laggy on my redmi 5 plus
we are comparing 720p with 1080p aka 921K pixels vs 2.5 million.. yeah you know that makes quite the difference.. Also xiaomi animation were never really “smooth” so putting it on 0.5x is just giving it a disadvantage .. keep it 1x vs 1x and even then resolution kinda hurts..
Although yes the 660 is quite a bit better than the 435.. not sure how much that helps with animations tho..
After disabling miui optimisation my icons become ugly big squares, how do I fix this?
can’t find it either
yep
Also the case with my new Redmi Note 8, Xiaomi really messed up with this one.
Official stock rom. Never tinkered with the software. Just how it is..
Try to test the miui11 with a camera like you’ve done with the miui10. Your screen capture decrease performance
yeah.. screen recorder isn’t the smoothest – has to compare like to like imo.
thus result in laggy animations on the users end.
🤷♂️
I don’t experience such issues. Everything is snappy here.
> but laggy stuttering animations doesn’t mean less performance like the title and video suggest, that’s very misleading.
Absolutely. If they were to run benchmarks, games, or major apps, I’m sure the phone wouldn’t stutter.
But the things you see the most throught the day, the System UI and transitions lagging, could get very annoying.
I’m also pretty sure Xiaomi will fix this, as the Redmi Note 7 is yet to receive Android 10, which would bump up the Android base, bringing optimizations. People have also been saying that Android 10 generally is just smoother with animations as well.
Well i have to restart almost every day because the notification bar keeps bugging out and I can’t use it. Kind of regret upgrading tbh.
Whats this Laggy animations?
Laughs in \*845 POCOFONE\*
Problem is I’d have already done that but my phone is under warranty still and developer options void the warranty
How so
People want more features, less battery consumption AND increased speed. Surprise, that doesn’t happen.
I will try. I’m so used to 0.5x tho, used 0.5 for years.
Weird… I got an A2 Lite 3 GB with a custom MIUI 11 rom which is based on Pie as well and it works flawlessly. Your phone is stronger than mine so that makes no sense. This is official stock rom right? Cause I don’t want to think that Xiaomi makes worse software than custom roms.
Well, no. I’m using a Mi 9T.
However many people around me use Note 7 and I’ve never really noticed something like this, or if I did – it’s in not that bad.
All the problems i have here. Also, freezing??? On a MI 9T PRO??? Oh xiaomi..
my talk to text doesn’t work after the update today.
=(
Just buy it. You’ll thank me later. Im using Redmi K20
Just give a little time. It will be better with future updates.
MIUI10 was very laggy at first, (Redmi Note 5 AI) It was get very smooth after 2-3 update.
For some reason it messed contacts in WhatsApp and other permissions
My first rom was Evolution os 3.5 on my mi9t That’s the worst experience i could even gotten.
Random freezes, random phone reboots, camera not popping out & in, So i decided to give custom roms one more chance…
Installed Extended OS and it’s amazing.
Overall nice optimization (no freezes & lags)
No bugs that pisses me off such as random reboots in evolution os.
Customization is pretty good (Worse that evolution but ev. still not worth it)
MIUI is crap. Unlock your smartphone and install LineageOS [https://lineageos.org/](https://lineageos.org/)
It’s open-source and well maintained, unlike this shitty chinese MIUI software
Can’t slide it down and turns black. Pretty annoying.
Yes, life gets easier my ass lmao more like life gets horrible
> Try changing animation speed
Animation speed only *hides* the lag, **doesn’t stop it.**
Multitasking will still be *choppy* and this also prevents you from experiencing smooth animations as they were intended.
> disabling miui optimization
While disabling this option *may* get rid of some performance issues, certain MIUI features will be altered *(such as icon shapes on the default theme, certain Settings options appear that are from AOSP, light-colored status bar elements now being an even lighter gray)*.

Oddly enough, before I sold the Redmi 4X a few months back, I was using a Pixel Android 10 GSI on it and my Note 5 Pro for comparison’s sake, and to my surprise, **not only was the UI smoother in more scenarios on the 4X, but it even held more apps in memory** (both are 3GB variants).
My mother’s Redmi Note 4 works just fine on MIUI 11, silky smooth, apps sometimes open faster on it than the Note 5 Pro, and even during the time I had the Note 4, I remember the experience as if it were almost on a flagship level in terms of performance on both MIUI and especially on custom ROMs. Android 8 was flying on that thing…
…now here I am with my Note 5 Pro, running HavocOS currently (and it is quite smooth), but regardless of running official MIUI, xiaomi.eu, custom ROMs or GSIs, the phone just isn’t that snappy and I can *feel* the phone having a sort of *regression* both in terms of speed and responsiveness.
The phone is smooth and doesn’t drop frames all the time, but apps opening or switching between them is sometimes painful, even causing the UI animations to time out sometimes.
One of my friends have a Note 5 Pro too and their phone is even worse when it comes to speed – they haven’t reset it for a year now.
You have to activate developer options first afaik. Then go to the additional settings under passwords and security and there should be developer options
7 Plus and 8. Blank pages because of memory problems https://discussions.apple.com/thread/250740002?answerId=252085263022 keyboard bugs etc. https://i.imgur.com/RvwUls0.jpg
I love it, miui is awesome and i don’t believe a rom is necessary. Gcam is a must though.
Flash a custom ROM…
This truly is a great device, just remember the one week waiting period before unlocking (countdown is from when you first start the process on device).
What happens with the notification bar?
Same as me? Can’t slide it down anymore? I keep getting that and have to restart
Tapping to pay actually works with Google Pay? I wasn’t aware it was functioning with any custom ROMs based off the XDA threads.
yeah, animations bug a lot
Maybe you could try disabling dark mode. I know it sounds weird, but this messed hugly with the performance of my mi pad 4 which also has a Snapdragon 660.
Lol. If you want to know what is slow try an iPhone after iOs 12-> iOs 13. 😄
This is not laggy/slow – it’s just a framework glitch.
I can try recording with another phone if you really want, i will prove that it still lags.
yeah my friend has a poco F1 and miui 11 seems to run okay there
Icon packs. I personally use Poco launcher so ymmv
I can assure that the lag is there in real life.
Can notice on poco. Really regretting keeping miui now
It will be fixed in several updates. On my mi 9 it works fine, without any errors
Yes, sorry, I misread the thread. If you are wondering for tha animation fix is inside the dev options
Is this recorded on a desktop? My emulator on my 2019 MacBook pro don’t perform even half as good as my phone does.
Redmi Note 4 series is a smooth device..
Android and MIUI are meant to be smooth and drop no frames.
Imagine using a phone that drops frames all the time and just stutters whenever something is moving on the screen.
The Redmi 4X and Note 4 were perfectly smooth phones, they all handled MIUI and future Android versions (custom ROMs) perfectly in terms of smoothness.
Somehow, starting with the Note 5 Pro, Redmi phones have become “stuttery”-er. They’re still amazing phones, especially for the price, but this is really sad to see.
Ok I’m not sure, I just know this is a working fix with 11.0.1.0 on the Mi 9t Pro.
It’s so weird I enabled developer options last night and when I woke up this morning it was completely gone.
Wait, just to clarify this compares two different phones with two different chipsets, and also the entire premise is based off animations? Not actual performance testing?
I noticed that on my Mi9 as well.
When i got to an application it doesn’t lag. So mostly problems with phone’s UI.
redmi note 5 global 3GB and no, 11 “feels” still “slighty” faster.
Pie.
I know where the developer options are, they are enabled. There is no MIUI optimization option though. I know it was there on Pie, but probably not Q
Mi 9T is a much powerful hardware and a flagship hence the “MI” instead of Redmi. Also your friends with the Note 7, they might not care about the slowdowns as much as i did.
If i had the chance i will try to remake this with both the exact same settings.
I aam planning to do that(love the hardware and will install a pixel expeince rom I think)
As in, [it doesn’t.](https://c.mi.com/thread-2468022-1-0.html)
I’ve had my Mi9 for eight months now but such issues have never occurred.
RAM usage is kind of high, but i have a lot of apps running in the background that i need so..
I have a N7P.
Same device?
Well, no shit. It’s an update. Every system update is more resource heavy than the last. I’d be surprised if 11 was faster than 10.
It happens to me in my 9t, scrolling on Instagram, Twitter or sometimes on YouTube while there’s a video playing minimized on the feed it feels laggy but stopping the video solves the problem. It also happen on the home screen with the transitions and opening folders but closing background apps solves the problem.
Thinking about buying a mi9t pro myself
How do you like it? (the camera/screen/overall phone experience)
Tap several times on your miui version in the “about phone” menu in settings
I’m on the same phone, using the same MIUI version, yet the animations are pretty smooth. Maybe adjust some settings in Developer Settings?
This to me is surprising. I converted my Mi A2 to Mi 6x and felt like a brand new phone. Saying this because people reporting custom pure Android roms are better. I’m actually on MIUI 10. Can’t tell if MIUI 11 will be worse.
I prefer 0.5x speed too, but animations get choppy in my phone! Let me know if that works for you.
Yea it sometimes just locks up completely and either recovers ~20 seconds later or needs a hard reset. At least that only started like a week ago though, dunno why.
i believe that the screen recorder is laggy. it would be better if we saw a video if the second phone instead of the screen recording
Aha. Ok. That makes sense.
Yes, I have noticed that pulling apps from RAM is slower. Like, chrome with 30+ tabs.
I wont lose sleep over it
Thanks, will try
Maybe it updated system launcher over night or something
Redmi 4X is on 1.0x animation. And Note 7 is at 0.5x. might aswell point that out
Yes, RN8 is not smooth at all, i disabled all animations because of this.
This doesn’t seem like nromal behavior. Try reinstalling the image from updater. My animations are smooth.
Is it Android 10 based or Pie?
Never tried. I heard it makes things faster tho..
After installing miui 11 (android 10) on mi 9t pro I immediately noticed how much worse it is. There’s a fair bit of microstutter pretty much everywhere now, the keyboard doesn’t hide instantly anymore when switching apps and its overall just worse. Often when going back to home screen only half the icons are rendered for a bit until it catches up on the lower half.
Not something I’d expect from this type of hardware. Stability is also questionable, I had this phone freeze up multiple times within the past couple days.
With all the shitty limitations and missing features paired with bad performance I really dislike miui.
It resets all permissions. Just go to app info, refresh whatsapp and wait a bit. Should be fine
Android 10 memory management is awesome
That was the first word about iOs 13. Reality is very different. It makes older phones unusable.
Can confirm with Note 8. Even my old Redmi 2 with miui 7 was smoother
i thought im the only one, fuck im moving out of this rom soon
Damn… If i were you i would be really mad.. i also had the stutters
The 6s? My mom is running on 13 on her 7+ and she never complained anything. Also its iOS, not iOs 😡
I hope so, but that’ll be a while, still. (N7p)
Go to settings and type “display size”.. change the size to small again and press tick mark to save..
Just did it and icons turned back to normal.
I get these laggy speeds but get 8 hours screen on time, mostly video (twitch and youtube)
Another curious fact is that MIUI in general is trash
Post made by the Android One gang
What’s this poor dates old lcd screen so small, huge ugly notch, dated camera, poor connectivity and cheap plastic back?
Laughs in *Helio G90T Redmi Note 8 Pro*
What are yall talking about. I love my rn7 with miui 11. Only android 10 is missing
You’re using screen recorder… for a low end specs phone it can be a huge impact….
hmm, why i found out just now?
Well on my phone I actually saw a performance increase on miui 11 after testing on multiple benchmarking apps, they all showed a increase. But sure I agree, Xiaomi really messed up the animations on 11, but laggy stuttering animations doesn’t mean less performance like the title and video suggest, that’s very misleading.
It has everything you need & nothing you don’t!!
Mi mix 3 5G gang here having fun with my miui10
Try changing animation speed to your preference and disabling miui optimization. Fixed battery drain and poor ram management on my mi9t pro.
Sorry, but I can’t take this post seriously.
First of all, these are the OS animations only. You can’t say something like the whole OS is slower because of that.
Also you are using different test conditions. Screen recorder for second phone.
And lastly.. seriously, the performance difference is minimal, this is splitting hairs and nothing to really be bothered about.
its not there on xiaomi eu rom 11.2
