This could be the tipping point for Xiaomi and their Android One phones. They have been negligent with their Android One updates.
Mi A1 first OS update was awful.
Mi A2 update to Android 9 last year was brutal, it was eventually pulled and fixed some of the bugs. It’s Android 10 update is also full of bugs.
Mi A2 Lite still stuck on Android 9.
Mi A3 update to Android 10 was really late coming out and is full of bugs and it’s been pulled. It also got lots of media attention.
I’m hoping this is a tipping point for Xiaomi. They either will stop their Android One phones or be forced to actually give it the attention it deserves.
What do you all think?
Seems so. This is sad, I had big hopes for those, seems it’s time for me and Xiaomi to part ways
>MIUI 10 pip
Still buggy now.
I’m using youtube vanced too, and no it’s not buggy anymore.
Maybe try downloading new version?
Same, i have an a2 lite.
I am still on the Mi A1 and I want to upgrade to a new phone but I’m so confused! I love the simplistic android one interface and would love if they launch the A4! But i hope it doesn’t turn out like the A3!
And now they’re also launching the Redmi Note 9 and 9Pro!
So many new phones literally every other month!
So confusing!
Nokia is the only one doing android one right.
No it isn’t.
I guess Android One is just prone to bugs. Especially mid range, it’s just awful.
Well, I kept my 9T, the A3 was for my mum as I made the big mistake of offering her a redmi 6A a bit sooner. The 6A is total garbage, it had to go. So I’ve bought 3 xiaomis in the past 6 months. Waiting for the Pixel 4a now…
Can you list actual things you don’t like?
I’m in Europe on an A3 and have been waiting and waiting for the update notification… and 11 is coming out later this year. Pretty disappointed to as they’re a great bang for the buck.
There is some opinion that with not so great sales of the high end Pixel phones vs the 3a and probably upcoming 4a that Google may return to lower cost phones instead of flagships. I’d be down with that…
I have this phone, and it runs smooth and no issues. The only problem with the phone is low quality shitty usb c port which is loose and disconnects frequently.
So, 5 mentions of ‘bugs’ and repeats of how awful everything is/was and nothing really concrete. Yeah, mi a2 had this one bad update and idk about the mi a1 but what’s so bad about the mi a3 currently besides not getting the android 10 update? What particular feature are you missing? What’s wrong with it?
>Android One
Why would you change a 9T for a A3…
>Same here I’m going to continue to use my MI A2 until its not usable and I’ll most likely upgrade to something different. If I was told the phone would only get monthly security updates and no OS updates I would be fine as I would know prior to buying the phone. HOWEVER Android One phones are supposed to get 2 OS updates and monthly security updates. I knew that prior to buying it, that’s the Android One program.
>
>I’ve got my eye on the Pixel 4a if the rumors are true about its design and size.
Updates are terribly buggy and it’s better to wait 2 months for stuff to get solved, so not what I would consider “right” (I have a N7+)
To be fair, pip is buggy on just YouTube Vanced, not anything else.
MIUI isn’t bugless tho. On MIUI 10 pip was very buggy. On MIUI 11 sometimes the animation runs at 20fps with very bad delay (0.3-0.5sec)
Mi A2 Lite Android 10 update is now bricking some users phones….
\*cries in Mi Max 2\*
If Google were any serious about software, Google would cancel any Android One phone from Xiaomi.
Google is also to blame.
BTW this is my last Xiaomi phone. Next time I’ll save money for an iPhone. No more crappy Android for me.
I know they aren’t ever going to be on the Pixel equivalent, but they are royally screwing up things with the Mi A(?) line up. This time the media publicized it and Xiaomi all of a sudden releases Android 10 to the Mi A3 and it’s a disaster for many. They need to slow down releasing phones and give their line up updates that are required.
My Mi A2 lost the ability to connect to WiFi with the Android 9 update last year. The Android 9 update was pulled last year for the Mi A2 because it was so awful. It took months to fix some of the bugs and some they never fixed. Mi A2 has Android 10 bugs that still require fixing. I always do a factory reset after an OS update and many of the bugs remain.
It is on the new version.
Yah, the entire Mi A? User community is upset about 5 bugs!
Get serious will you and stop trolling, looking to start arguments. Use the search function in Reddit and type in Mi A3. It’ll list all the posts about the 5 bugs….

Mi A2 Android 9 update bricked phones, made WiFi connection impossible, broke the camera.
Xiaomi pulled the Android 10 update for more than a few bugs.
My MiA1 is and was always perfect by a software standpoint. A great phone? Absolutely not. Hardware specs are average and the quality of construction is subpar .
I still can’t figure out how a group of 10 devs can release perfectly functional custom OS (+in their free time) yet companies that actually make their devices send users updates with major bugs.
To be fair, the corona virus is stalling a lot of updates and Xiaomi isn’t the only one affected.
Now, hardware wise, the Mi A3 was a no from me as soon as I saw it had a 720p screen – this phone might signal the end of decent Android One devices from Xiaomi, but overall you’d be hard pressed to find a better value phone brand.
Bought a 9T, took 6 months to get android 10
Bought an A3 to get updates faster. Awful result
My third Android won’t be a Xiaomi, which is sad because they make great phones
Next time, a pixel if it’s not as expensive as an iPhone, or simply an iPhone
Told you – Xiaomi has no interest in keeping the android one program for much longer. I even doubt the A4 will be a game changer anymore.
I really want Android One, but I also want NFC. *Need* NFC actually. So I can’t buy one of these.
Nah, there are still many nokias without 10 update and the 9 update was a buggy mess on many of their phones.
MIUI 11 fixed it on my device. But yeah the whole MIUI is YMMV
Read all the post about the Mi A3 update, its late arrival, and its bugs.
Then look back at Mi A2 updates from last year Jan.2019 and all the bugs and problems that came along with the Android 9 update such as loss of wifi connection, bricked phones and many other issues. Android 9 update was eventually pulled and then redistributed once some bugs were fixed
Read about the first OS update for the Mi A1 and its awful bugs and how it was pulled and redistributed once some bugs were fixed.
Pixel is good as well
I’m not into running custom roms. I just went the device to function well as it is.
Software has been my biggest frustration since I replaced my Nexus 4, when it still worked it was one of the fastest and snappiest phones running Android 7 (lineageOS ftw), my LG G3 was dog shit slow because of its poor software, thermal design and over stressed GPU (first 1440p phone), the slowly creeping phone prices I couldn’t justify and I replaced my G3 with a flagship, so I got the Mi A1 thinking it was the best option and it worked great for a while, but the wifi firmware has been bugged for a year and constantly drops to 400kbps or “connected no internet” on Huawei routers basically every mainstream ISP uses in my country.
I recently got a mikrotik router, and my University WiFi (ubiquity maybe?), both just randomly drop and reconnect the WiFi when turning on the screen.
I feel obligated to buy flagship phones just to get 3 year support, despite 2GHz A53 being a perfectly fine CPU for my needs.
At least they provide a roadmap of their update schedule. We have nothing to work with.
What I find odd is that ROM developers could easily work from home. I don’t see why updates are being stalled.
Believe me, I went through all brands… all have the same problem. I went from LG a while back to Xiaomi and have been with them for a while now, at least the phones are cheaper.
If you wanna be on the bleeding edge you need to 1) buy the latest higher end model from any brand or 2) Get a Pixel or 3) Get an apple, I kept getting software updates for an old iPhone 5C I had until a year ago… and it was released quite a few years before that.
I guess I always bring bad luck to phone updates.
Back on 2017 purchased a Moto G5 ’cause I trusted Motorola updating policies, it came with Nougat but I said, it’s a Moto device! Oreo will arrive in a few weeks. Oreo was released on Aug 2017. Update arrived on Sep 2018.
I came to Xiaomi and I was particularly impressed by Mi A3 and his Android One update policies. Well, it seems like this is the beginning of another long story…
There’s always Lineage OS etc. But we shouldn’t have to do that with an Android One phone… Google really needs to move the Core OS to internal updates like the security updates. Maybe with Fuscia in the future?
