Mi 10 Ultra (MIUI 12) won’t let me set another default Launcher unless it’s “approved by MIUI”

I’ve got a Chinese ROM mi 10 ultra it’s letter me change nthe launcher I just like the default.
Not liking something and flat out misinforming people is very different.
And I’m glad it’s working out for you ;). Some of “us people” just don’t like it.
I suspect accent colours don’t work because of the MIUI theming engine.
Yeah, I meant the accent colours. Probably was a last minute addition just because it is available on Android 10.
In the developer options or the Xiaomi themes app? In the developer options, the accent colour doesn’t work. Not sure about the font.
But the Xiaomi theming app seems to work just fine.
I wonder, do the other 2 theming options work? The System Colors one and the System Font one.
Yeah I got the same with the icons, but you can change the icon shape in developer settings to kind of match the non-themed ones. Or just get a different launcher, lol. I went with the developer settings option and it looks okay. I also got that same always on display option and multiple users. I think multiple users was hidden in some other MIUI bundle/tab and they disable always on display because it’s an LCD.
Interestingly enough, when I disabled MIUI Optimization, all the icons zfrom non-Xiaomi apps, became squares instead of squircles, and a new tab appeared in the Settings apps called “Multiple Users”. Also, although I have an LCD panel, an option to turn off/on the Always-on Display got added to the “Lock Screen” tab.
I disabled it on my redmi note 9 pro to experiment. Here are my observations:
– Less RAM usage (from 3-3.2 GB available up to 3.4-4gb available at any point in time.)
– Icons did go wonky, but I went into the themes app and developer options to sort of get something modern back.
– Background apps don’t close as often, despite RAM usage being lower.
– Battery indicator in the status bar is now always too dark to see. (fixed this by changing the style to have the percentage in the bubble)
– UI feels smoother. Might be placebo lol. It’s always been pretty smooth.
All in all, not much changed visually except for the home screen icons. The performance seems better than before and I don’t always have to restart a video when I’ve locked my screen like before.
Yeah, I get you, but based on what you said, it’s only shortcoming is not that it has less features, but that some features are region locked.
Mi Lanting Pro.
Oh, yeah, fair enough. Still, about Stock Android being less restrictive, MIUI has more features compared to Stock Android, and more customization options. Plus, MIUI 12 is waaaaay more elegant compared to Stock Android.
Zfont? Use the Themes app.
You just change the region to India, change your font, and then change your region again to the one you had set your phone to, before. If you want…
Smh, there is nothing dangerous about MIUI. You people are stupid. I’ve been using Xiaomi for 3 years now and nothing bad has happened. Quite the opposite in fact. MIUI 11/12 are quite the reliable Android Skins.
But that’s the China ROM. You can’t say that unless restrictions like this come to the Global/Indian ROM, too.
It doesn’t fix anything, trust me. UI is inconsistent, and performance may be improved or hindered, depending on the device.
Well, you for the Mi 10 Ultra which is only for the Global Market. Your best bet is to change your ROM from China to Global (Or India, if you live in India.).
Only if you’re in Chinese ROM. If you wan set another default launcher, maybe try custom ROMs like Xiaomi eu, else stick to the default one.
A bit off topic, but how can you change the font? Don’t find the option anywhere… And what’s the name of the font you use?
Yeah he doesn’t buy expensive, he buys cheap Chinese phones so you kinda didn’t get what he said.
It’s only on China rom and it was like this for years.
don’t worry, it’s only on China MIUI.
Try deactivate MIUI optimization in Developer Options.
some people just see antagonisation anywhere
Lol he even got told “did you even google before talk shit” in the next comment (that looks like a mistake). Reddit sometimes amazes me.
god tier redditor, actually thanking someone who shit-talked them
Where did you see he talk shit? All I see is he literally said what the pop up show and got his question answered
I’m planning to as soon as a custom rom becomes available for my Poco F2
did you even google bro before talk shit.
What exactly does it disable or improve? I tried disabling it but it left me with the world’s ugliest icons so I reenabled hahaha.
fuzakenna!!!
That’s idiotic of Xiaomi, not OP
Oh ok.
It’s only on China ROMs.
That’s why I don’t spend my money in a expensive Chinese phone, I have a Redmi note 8t and that’s enough. I still have disappointments, but at least I keep my money.
Microsoft launcher is approved…. Not quite as good nova but at least it supports new icons and the ability to change them, rename things, folders in app drawer, swipe to open the app drawer etc.
I’m on MiUI 12 and it doesn’t do this to me.
This actually worked like a charm. thanks!
Nothing new. Some MIUI China and EMUI China devices have this. I remember this from the Fake MIUI ROM scandal back in Redmi Note 3/4 days.

It’s so bad that I had a Chinese Mate 30 Pro 5G and you couldn’t get custom themes. Get one of those apps that open apps with certain button presses. If you get the launcher, go on the app and set it so everytime you press the home button, that it opens the Launcher. That is one way you can do it. Also I never had an issue with MIUI or EMUI. Every update gets better and better.
