I just wanted to share my experience. I’ve been using iPhones since the old 3GS was released. I then got an iPhone 4 and my last one was a 6 Plus. This last one was starting to act weird and my battery life was ridiculous, up to the point where I had to charge 2 or 3 times a day. I also couldn’t use most modern APPs like Discord because they crashed.
I never meant to switch to Android, because I had no idea how to use that OS and that big of a change scared me a bit. Then I saw the Xiaomi Mi 9T, I compared the specs with modern $1000 flagship phones and noticed it’s actually not that bad for a fraction of the price (I got the 128gb model for 270 Euros from Aliexpress).
The whole “ordering expensive things from Aliexpress” spooked me out a bit. But I said “fuck it” and got it. The delivery took 3 weeks and I thought I got scammed when I saw “$20 MP5 Player” outside the package, but I was relieved to see the phone inside. I guess they do that to avoid customs fees.
Now, after spending about a week with my new phone, I can say it’s amazing. It’s everything I wanted and much more. I got used to the OS after one day of use and the battery lasts me FOREVER, I just love it. Also, the fact I don’t have a notch on the screen is awesome. It just looks so smooth and clean. I don’t care about selfies, or face unlock so I don’t think the camera mechanism will wear out anytime soon.
I’m just extremely surprised that such a cheap phone is so good. My phone company wanted me to pay 20 bucks for 36 months for a Samsung phone, but I’m so glad I decided to look up a Xiaomi instead. I don’t miss iOS at all and I can’t believe how limited I was on an iPhone, from little things to control my music from the earphones, to have a splitscreen with two apps at the same time.
I currently have an iPhone 6s and have stupid battery issues as well. I want a 9t pretty bad
Awesome choice! thinking of a similar upgrade myself, iphone 6 to mi9t/pro
Your situation sounds very similar to mine. I had an iPhone 6s and my partner has a 6. The 6 is definitely on it’s last legs but we didn’t want to pay out £800 for a new iPhone. I bought the 9T from AliExpress as a bit of an experiment and I’m very impressed so far. We’re both going to get one now – the upgrade from the 6/6s is massive!
The same here. Always used iPhones, just switched to Xiaomi 9SE (july 2019) and I am really happy with my choice
Yeah, it seems all iPhone 6 phones eventually encounter the dreaded battery problem. It wasn’t a bad phone at that time, but it was time to upgrade. The 9T has been amazing, I can’t recommend it enough.
I had the same battery problem on my previous iphone 7 then bought a mi 9. There’s simply no comparison between these two phones and to think 6s still sells at the same price as a new mi 9 in my country 😂
Went from an iPhone 6s to a Mi 9. The only thing I missed was the iPhone system font…
… So I ended up making it my Mi 9’s system font ! Android really lets you do just about anything. Never looked back. And my Mi 9 is way better.
Are you in the UK? I’ll buy your 6S.
Honestly, I thought about getting the pro version, but I didn’t feel it was worth the extra money. The 9T hit the sweet spot for me. The price is ridiculous and the specs are amazing.
I believe all you get with the pro version is a better CPU and ram.
It’s call programmed obsolescence and Apple is doing that for a long time, it’s even documented in some paper/news article.
I still have an iPhone X – I have the Mi 9. Whilst I do like my Xiaomi, there are bits that are lacking .i.e. sound quality when listening through wireless headphones is shocking, street noise is much louder making listening somewhat impossible. This has since improved when I went to a cheap pair of usb-c headphones. Battery life is mediocre, there were a tonne ads on all the phone – luckily managed to turn these off! Despite the latest Snapdragon processor – the phone is still slower than my iPhone 🙁 however, the Xiaomi is £450 – 128GB (iPhone is 256GB).
I like the new interface minus the ads of course.. but then my experience is from a more recent iPhone compared to yours. I am glad you like your Xiaomi though 🙂
I’m still using an iPhone 7 and though it fulfills my needs I’m itching to buy a note 7 just because of the significantly better battery life… Any tips you recommend to make the transition better?
Also a slightly better main camera sensor, but Google Camera (look it up if you haven’t already, not on the play store) makes every phone nowadays into a Pixel-like camera beast 🙂
What would you say are the best about iOS compared to the Mi 9T you are using now?
It’s really strange I also had iPhone 6 Plus and I could use Discord without problems.
First of all you sound ridiculous. An iPhone 6 is a 5 year old phone. If you think 5 years of using a phone, charging it everyday, discharging, etc, is not going to hurt the battery you’re very mistaken. Also, like I said, the phone is 5 years old and besides battery issues it’s still completely useable. Try to find a 5 year old Android phone that doesn’t have battery issues and is still buttery smooth to use.
I’m not defending apple, but there comes a point where battery’s just stop working, that’s the life of a lithium battery. We don’t have the tech to fix that yet.
I don’t know what it was, but my phone would restart randomly and most modern Apps would just shutdown. It was getting pretty bad, so I had to get a new phone ASAP.
Calling the Mi 9T cheap is pretty daring
¿Cheap phone –> 9T?, guys be happy of living in first world.
Phones have become amazing at the lower price point.
I have an Redmi 5 plus and an Honor 8X and both of those phone do whatever i ask of them.
At this point paying more than 350€ on a phone is madness, when you can get a 9T, literally the phone of the future, at that pricepoint.
I want to do this too! How did you do it?
If you have a Redmi 5 Plus, you really should use a custom rom. It’s amazing with one!
It’s mostly my back up phone cause the battery lasts 2 days, easily.
I use the 8x more because i like the display size.
Is your phone rooted?
If yes it is just a matter of copying some font files to a specific directory via TWRP.
If not I think there are still ways to do it, with apps (e.g. ifont, but I haven’t tried myself)
My phone is rooted! I’ve tried this before, by using some San Francisco font module from Magisk. While it kinda worked, it broke many websites. I was wondering if there always any better way to do it. Could you please elaborate? 😅
Thank you!
I got the mi 9T only point of disappointment is the camera, mi messaging group mms sends messages to individual users instead of all the group, mi browser. But I plan on rooting this phone get to fix all that. Hope the camera gets better with gcam. Not a fan of mi apps replacing Google’s. I’m coming from a Nexus 5X. My Nexus camera was better than the stock mi 9T.
I found and downloaded San Francisco ttf fonts somewhere (20 files in total).
Then in TWRP I mounted system partition, then just copied and renamed these ttf files to replace the corresponding roboto font files (12 roboto files and 8 robotocondensed files) in /system/fonts
Simple as that.
They are not wrong with the package, it can play mp5s
Now unlock bootloader and experience true freedom
I really don’t get regular middle class people that have to have the lastest iphone. Such a waste of money
Glad there are people actually looking around the market. It’s quite rare seeing apple users migrating to android. Welcome!(also, I’d recommend going into installing other ROMs, in my opinion you can have much better experiences without MIUI)
I too was an iPhone user, still use my IPhone 6 though. The main reason I switched was how good and cheap Xiaomi phones are, no worrying of filling my storage with music, apps etc. Also, the USD has gone up in value in my country and has made acquiring an iPhone extremely expensive! But I’m glad I made the jump. Latest Android version, awesome tech such as fast charging and the flexibility Android provides.
Its even simply, just change region to India and on themes app, you got a new module named fonts. Install San Francisco font and you are good to go !
Since you come from iOS, did you stick to gestures or switched to navbar ?
Welcome to the club brother!!
Do you mean the two different modes of navigation? I switched to the one without the three buttons at the bottom and I thought it was really intuitive. I loved it.
I’m new with Android, but after changing a few options, I got it to my taste and I feel really comfortable with it now.
Had the 6s and went for the mix 3 when it came out. The transition from apple to miui is great and worth it! 🙂
It is, in my opinion, just a ” long-time Apple users ” problem. Not to many years ago, the difference between a 1000$ phone and 200$ would be abyssal. As of now, it is getting slimmer and slimmer, year after year, for many different reasons.
And I, as of now, think that the Mi9T in the 300€ range the Mi9T is unbeatable.
I think that the fact that MIUI is inspired by iOS helped in this situation.
I looked at the note 7, was tempted by it. Got the 9T in the end because it was the newest, I still had to save up though lol.
Well, i think it is pretty obvious your new phone is better. You jumped from a 5 years old phone, notoriously famous for being pretty badly optimized… How this kind of posts gets upvoted is beyond me
I was just happy to share my thoughts. I was afraid to make a change (not only in terms of phone, but also OS) and I’m happy I did so.
I’ve seen many people changed from iphone after 6 or 6s. is there any 8 or 8plus users here.. i think, in this wide world only my cousin bought 8th series…. Idiot….! period….!
Now he want to change to android after using my Mi A2…
My case. After 6 years with apple phones, i think tomorrow i will order Mi 9T.
I currently am using a Redmi Note 7 Pro with zero bloatware and I’m loving it, paid 260$ back in March of this year. You cannot find phones now at days with 6GBs of RAM/128GB at this price point unless it’s from Xiaomi.
You just needed to change the battery, that’s all.It is well known that iOS shuts down apps or itself when it finds that the battery can’t hold it.With a battery replacement it would be ok
Plus the 6 on iOS 12 can run any modern app without a problem, considering it’s age.
What u mean you were upgrading an iphone every year?
If anything,iPhones are known for their sustainability and long life, due to their superior processors and constant updates. The iPhone 5s for example rocks the latest iOS 12 version and it started on 7.It was released in 2013.
Your concern was speed?Cause that can’t be the case.I agree that the batteries are certainly their weak points and they stayed the same for many years design wise, but generally speaking any iPhone repair(battery, screen, sensors) is fairly cheap.Design ofc is a personal preference.
Argentinian?
No, Colombia. But that country, mine and Brasil have suffered currency devaluation. These days someone published how a Lego set cost as much as a motorcycle in medellin Colombia. With the price of an iPhone XS Max, you can easily buy 2 cheap motorcycles
Has it been announced that they will release in us?
Can you elaborate on the “$20 mp5 player”? How detailed is that receipt? Could you show a pic?
Hey man, you really help. A lot of us are in the same situation. It kinda feels like you are doing something bad changing to another phone. I really hope that i can feel happy as you when my Mi 9T arrives.
I just ordered the MI 9T and i encourage myself watching videos on you tube and comments of people in social media that are happy with their decision.
Can’t you just change it in the themes app? I don’t know if it has ios font though
Why in the world are you using mi browser? There are way better alternatives. And unless you’re going to flash custom roms, rooting is useless, more or less. Use a gcam port, you will get way better photos
i have same feeling like you when i go my Mi Max 3 ?
Why do you recommend NOT to get the Google camera app from the play store?? Where should we look for it instead?? Thanks for the tips, I have a redmi note 5, 4/64 and so far I’m pretty happy with it. I got it 1 year ago and it still runs like new hehehe
Yeah the battery life is great. I threw on a custom launcher and its so much better, the only problem I have with it is miui10 doesn’t let apps other than stock ones change wallpapers but thats pretty minor. Goodluck with android, its so great!
Ive done the same my friend. I still have my XS but i moved to a Redmi note 7 after a horrible experience with the Samsung A50 and my gosh im loving it. I once used to have the Mi4 a couple years bck and tbh Xiaomi is probably one of the best android phones out there. Honestly loving it
How’s the camera?
Because some of the features on that version will crash you because it’s made specifically for the Pixel
There’s a community of modders that ported the GCam over to other phones that might work fully (with extra features) for your phone
Could you please help me to get to the page of the modders who developed that version which is ported to my device??
I liked the look of alot of xiaomi phones but was put off because of the size. (I mountain bike and need a fairly small phone) I looked at the mi a2 lite but it didn’t have a great camera or great hard ware. Then I found the mi 8 se. It doesn’t have a global room but it has the option to change to English and it seriously is so good. It has a great camera, 6 gigs of RAM, up to 128 gigs of internal storage, and it runs so fast. Xiaomi makes the best phones for the cheapest price period.
Mi 9T is very nice! I bought one for my dad.
I highly doubt there’s a version for your phone yet
Just follow the XDA subforum for the 9T
I plan on getting a 9T Pro eventually I think
Nah I’m in Australia and I’m getting at 9T soon anyways
I’ve tried that, np it there’s no San Francisco (Because it’s actually copy righted by Apple😬)
Thanks! Can you link me them please? Also where is the exact folder? I love San Francisco so much I can’t wait to do it☺️
[https://github.com/blaisck/sfwin](https://github.com/blaisck/sfwin) <-- Fonts I picked 12 .ttf files from SFPro folder and 8 .ttf files from SFCompact folder The objective is simply to copy these .ttf files over to your phone's /system/fonts folder, and rename them to overwrite the .ttf files with Roboto-*.ttf and RobotoCondensed*.ttf But you won't be able to do that with MIUI running, as these files are being used. So you will need to start TWRP to do the copying.
I still can’t choose between 9t, 9t pro and regular 9. My heart says mi9 because it’s much thinner. Also good looking, faceunlock, wireless charging etc. I don’t want to get T ones with shit vibration motor just for a better battery. No idea about mi9 battery, some say “i got 5hrs sot” and some say “10”
Although I agree the hardware on the new MI’s are good, there’s a lot of bloatware on these. Having come from a Nexus 6, I wasn’t impressed, and until I get a solid ROM I’m super happy with, I’ll be wishing I got a pixel.
The thing is super quick, but the Assistant not being able to unlock and the smartlock being busted are deal breakers for me.
Overall, I think the MI 9 was a good value, I just wish it was closer to stock and not such a hacked up version of Android, then it would be a dream come true.
