Picked up my K20 Pro on launch day finally retiring my 3 year old battered Oneplus 3 that’s served me well.
Got the black carbon fiber 8gb+128gb. Super sexy. The red light effect in the pop up camera can be turned off thankfully.
It’s pretty much the same size as the op3, but all screen with no bezels. Just feels tall because of the full screen.
Had some trouble setting up Google play at first since I live in China and VPN service has been spotty recently. Had to download the Google play services apk to get it going.
Still getting used to full screen gestures and the miui interface.
Spent all night getting apps and the phone set up my way with Nova prime.
So far it’s been awesome the phone is super quick, I’ve had 20+ apps opened setting up and it never force closed when I went back to the earliest one.
Will be trying out the cameras soon!
Ask away if you’ve got questions
Edit 1: fingerprint scanner is quick, still getting used to the placement. Definitely not *instant* like a physical one on the op3 but still very fast.
Audio from the 3.5mm jack is great, much better than what was on the op3. Music from highest quality download Spotify premium was noticably more clear, could hear more faint details and soundstage is wider. I’m using KZ AS10 earbuds.
Call quality is good, earpiece is powerful and loud.
Speaker is only the one on the bottom, not stereo but it is very loud at Max volume no distortion.
Edit 2: some quick snaps, weather is bad but oh well.

Edit 3: rain stopped for Abit so ran out to take some quick photos follow the Google photos link to see them all.
[k20 pro album](https://photos.app.goo.gl/9WGNpoytkypDAhzj7)
I’ve added more pictures and videos in the Google photos link in the original post
The k20 doesn’t have all european 4g bands, keep that in mind.
What about the chin, does it distract you?
Raw support for camera?
I live in HK, and I cant get google play store to work. It gives me DFERH-01 Error. I believe it has to do with [googleapis.cn](https://googleapis.cn) vs [googleapis.com](https://googleapis.com)
Could you tell me what version google services you downgraded to?
TIA
Please look up how to remove data collection and follow the steps and use a custom ROM as soon as it is released. 100 percent worth.
In some vids I’ve seen a light in the popup selfie camera. What purpose does the light serve? And any sign of a notification led?
Yea it has cam2 api so gcam would work and results would be good.
Thanks for sharing the results.
The camera may be good on k20pro but it lacks OIS. Which does come in handy at times
What are the USB copying speeds like from a PC? And does it support Display Port alt mode over the Type-C port? Probably not, but I’m still hopeful.
That’s good to know thanks.
Hey bro, thanks for all the info and the amazing pics man! It looks amazing. Can you tell me if it has a voice wake function when the screen is off? Maybe with ok google?
It’s a slight but noticable upgrade, abit sharper and more contrasty?. Out of the box looking side by side the k20 is a tad cooler in colour but that can be changed and up to preference
Thanks you so much OP for camera test. Can you test portraits mode too ? It doesn’t matter if it’s people or not.
hi,
So i ran a test and the security level is L3 that means the phone can play netflix and prime video but streaming services will be capped at 480p.
Tbh i wouldnt be surprised if it comes sooner, probably even this month, they keep spamming that “T” PR campaign
One yesterday and one today
https://mobile.twitter.com/Xiaomi
Also band 20 is really important for LTE if you carrier uses it…
Also apparently you can already preoder it from resellers
Non pro version:
https://www.honorbuy.com/1664-xiaomi-mi-9t-6gb-128gb-global-version-smartphone-black.html
I’d say wait a bit
Thanks a list for thinks you like and u don’t (like do u miss op os) would be great for after a week.
Something like “K20pro after a week”
How’s the build quality ?
How is the fingerprint scanner in k20 doing. I have come to love the physical front facing button on OP3
I Uninstalled and reinstalled seems to be working now. Thanks
How’s the face unlock speed? Have you tested it yet?!
& Please attach some camera samples if you can..that would be super helpful!
That’s sucks 😕
But I guess this because it was sold in China, wasn’t it ?
Edit: Happy cake day🎂
In the settings there is option with image stabilization but won’t know how effective it is till later. It’s storming where I am so no chance to go outside yet
Thanks for all the info you’ve provided so far. It’s really helpful. Seeing as you’re the type of person to keep their phone long term, I was wondering how you rate the build quality of the pop-up camera.
Do you think dirt can get stuck between the pop-up camera and the body of the phone?
Do you think the mechanism of the pop-up is built well enough to last for a couple of years?
how did you manage to do that?
any issues using the phone with Q beta?
does everything work?
The sides of the pop up camera are transparent, the light is just for show, serves no purpose other than to look cool I guess. You can turn it off in the settings which I did
At the top of the pop up camera is a small ring that is supposed to be the notification light and when charging it lights up but really quite useless since no one looks at the top of the phone and you won’t see it 95% of the time
WhatsApp works for me. But Outlook doesn’t.
I tried everything also…
How is feel moving from Oxygen to MIUI? Or Hydrogen?
I think Xiaomi feel less snappy on there software than OnePlus.
BTW I’m using OP3T
I’m planning to upgrade from my trusty OnePlus 3T as well. Was torn between the K20 Pro, Zenfone 6 and the Red Magic 3. But the K20 Pro meets all my requirements while still being cheaper than the other two. Also, before my 3T, I had a Mi 3 so I’m quite familiar with MIUI.
I haven’t actually seen a face unlock setting so I’m not sure there is one. J don’t I would use it since you have to wait for the camera etc. The under screen fingerprint sensor is more than good enough for me.
I’ve updated my original post with some quck sample pics, it’s raining here so don’t expect anything great now.
? It’s glass and metal. There’s no plastic on this device. Also it’s amoled no lcd.
I’m not the biggest fan of miui either but man don’t just hate on something till you at least get to try it out?
Well, just grab a large file, copy it and measure how many seconds it takes. Then divide file size by time.
You can only test the second one if you have a Type-C to DP or HDMI adapter. Then it’s as simple as connecting it to a display and seeing if it works or not.
So far it’s solid all round, nothing to complain about.
How is it? I think I’m just going to wait for the mi10. My phone just updated to 9.0 and there’s no issues with it and runs great
Hey thanks for prompt reply.
If the security level is L1 that means the phone can play netflix and prime video in fhd but if it is L3 as it seems to be then any drm content i.e. streaming services will be capped at 480p.
For cam2api u can use an app called camera2 probe or manual camera. If cam2 Api is enabled only then gcam ports work on the device.
cant say yet, ive only had it for 2 days.
but so far its pretty solid, doesnt feel cheap at all.
im sure its possible for very fine sand or dirt to find its way in but looking at tear down video there is gap inside the body so it should really scratch the lens
no stereo speaker for earpiece even f1 got one made me sad
What chin? Don’t notice it at all, there’s so much screen above it. It’s super tiny anyways coming from the op3
is that without rooting/doing any mods? just installing gcam apk?
I think it should be ok, as long as it has your local network bands.
Tbh i prefer 1+ premium feel instead of those cheap plastic and display is much better than those led/lcd and i hate miui and i m ready to pay a premium only for these features
is there a way to capture raw (DNG or whatever) photos?
Hey thanks for letting me know!
I got the update yesterday but there was no notice that face unlock was added.
I’ve tried it and we’ll it is quick but it’s just easier to unlock with the fingerprint scanner. No need to swipe up on the lock screen like to use face unlock
i just downloaded the latest version from the apkmirror and also google framework apk.
i never saw that error
Congratulations for using your OP3 for 4 years 🙂
still figuring it out and learning miui.
already missing some OOS features like the screen off gestures i used for music control
Have you got a rough idea when it will be released globally?
Can you show me to get it to work
Oof good thing I don’t watch Netflix on mobile anyways.
Hope the camera results are promising? Looking forward to what gcam can bring out of the cameras
Hey, does it have cam2 api enabled and can you check for widevine certification using apps like drminfo.
Hi there, thanks for posting up the following. Would it be possible for you to please post up a photo of how the K20 Pro looks in the supplied factory case? Many thanks.
It’s not as near instant but still really fast
I was having problems with my op3 fingerprint reader the past few months but I guess it’s just worn down over the years. One of the reasons I needed a new phone really.
the black and red versions have red LEDs, not sure about the blue one
How is the quality of the AMOLED panel used in it compared to that of OP7(not pro)?
Yesyes I know sorry I couldn’t remember exactly..
yes. just install like any app
For me OP 7 pro’s price was a turn down and OP 7 the notch!!!
I dont know why people accepted the notch thing so easily!
i am hoping if the oxygen OS rom is ported from oneplus 7 pro to this phone its a killer a phone with all the things we need !!
Good to know. There were a few posts here that k20 felt inferior to Mi9
Same 🙂
I’m also planning to upgrade from a Oneplus One to this device.
would you know if the led color is red for all phone colors? what about the blue one?
4k60fps with EIS?
Yeah but the lack of a headphone jack turned me off, the price also is quite a lot more than the k20pro
thanks! are there any more colours available to this or is it only red
i’ve been really disappointed with the recent trend of xiaomi to either eliminate the notification light or to make it single colour
Check the link I added in the post to the Google photos album there are 2 videos in it 1 is in 1080p 60fps and the other 4k 60fps.
I was just walking normally but the videos do come out Abit wobbly. This is with image stabilization turned on in the settings menu.
Wow. That looks excellent for a phone this price.
Edit. Can this phone play Netflix at FHD?
Wait a bit for Mi9T Pro, seems to be the same phone but for rest of the world
I live in China, paid 2799yuan for it. Don’t know how much that is in euros.
I would get the 128gb at least. Have some headroom for more stuff. I was always running close to the limit on my 64gb op3. Happy to not have to worry anymore
How hard was it to switch from Oxygen OS to MIUI?
Thanks for the quick reply
Are you interested in buying one?
Maybe in the near future?
If so Please post your experience afterwards.
Thank you.
i never had problems with whatsapp, so i dont know how to fix it
i tried the same things you did but for outlook and it still doesnt work.
maybe try to enable developer options
1. settings > my device > all specs
2. tap on miui version until it says developer options enabled
3. go back to settings and scroll down to additional settings > developer settings should be near the bottom
4. scroll all the way down and turn off MIUI optimization
I’ve read elsewhere that it worked for some people
sorry bud.
I’m planning to make the same switch as you from OP3 to K20Pro. How do you feel about the extra size and weight? Does the top tend to tip if you try to balance it in the middle?
Thanks for quick reply.
A Op3 user here.
Heavy camera usage
Would have gone for Op7 all I needed was a wide angle camera.
K20 pro will be my next device.
Do you have adds in UI?
Some of my friends have redmi phones and have adds in UI.
thanks!
turns out its more like 3 years but its served me well.
dropped it hundreds of times, into water and also in sand at the beach as well. Finally cracked the screen a couple weeks ago and had even replaced the battery not long before that.
i think it was about time for retirement haha
Very interesting. I’ll keep an eye out for when more of the bugs are worked out
I want this phone but i live in the UK should i be ok with the chinese version you don’t need a chinese number like vivo
Also please list what all features & niceties the camera app has? Like some special modes & level of manual controls available 😇
> The red light effect in the pop up camera can be turned off thankfully.
From where please tell?
Also do you the camera shots are bit yellowish? Mainly front one?
Awesome 👍
If you do that,I’ll be happy to know what’s the audio bitrate of those videos.
No Netflix in China and the VPN’s aren’t working right now. I’ll let you know in a couple days when I’m out of China
How is the case that comes in the box? Does it feel solid? I saw an unboxing and if I remember correctly it isn’t a tpu one, so could you post a picture of top of the case. I’ve read a lot of your answers, thanks for your time.
Hey man, yeah maybe the Chinese version is optimized for the china assistant, thankyou for the reply! hope you enjoying it! 😀
I am using OP3T too and considering to upgrade to K20 Pro. How do you rate the Amoled screen display quality on K20 Pro compared to the one on OP3?
Hey thanks for letting me know!
I got the update yesterday but there was no notice that face unlock was added.
I’ve tried it and we’ll it is quick but it’s just easier to unlock with the fingerprint scanner. No need to swipe up on the lock screen like to use face unlock

There are options to adjust the blur effect and also light trails and studio lighting effects after taking the photi
First you need to unlock your bootloader, then go here and DL the beta rom
[https://www.mi.com/global/androidqbeta/](https://www.mi.com/global/androidqbeta/)
Not everything works, the bugs are listed in the page. I wont be using this full time yet, still using my OP6T as my daily.
Spent alot of time at the mi store and couldn’t really feel any difference at all between the mi9 and the k20pro
i dont have the 27w charger, sorry.
I pre-ordered the mi9t and I’m also upgrading from the op3, nice to hear
Damn. How do you cope from going from OxygenOS to MIUI?
Does it have dark mode like mi 9?
how is the vibration on k20 pro
we all know the weak vibration of oneplus 3/3T
My what’s app notifications don’t show up on mine any idea how to enable? I’ve turned off the battery saving enabled all notifications all the permissions enabled and it’s pinned in the recent menu. Still not showing them until I open the app and then they Show.
My bad, couldn’t remember exactly
does the fingerprint scanner work with screen protector?
My 3T is 2.5 years old looking for a upgrade here soon
Is there a high quality DAC like the LG ones ?
Maybe when gcam comes there will be raw support.
Yeah I really wanted a wide angle as well.
No I haven’t seen any ads at all
Will try to if I get the time, there is 4k 60fps and h.264, h.265 encoding.
Thx for the detailed answer.
Can’t test Netflix now, VPN’s not working for now. Let you know in a few days after I head out of china.
Youtube 1080p is fine no problems
Noice
Thanks!
Hmm no idea unfortunately but i think it should be soon (i hope), I would say in July it should be here, I mean its basically the same phone…
Can you post a picture of the notification light?
Thanks for the post.
Can you check quick charge with the 27w adapter? How much time taken when phone is off phone screen is off and while using like browsing or playing movie?
I have big hands so it’s not too bad for me, but its not easy to reach across and touch the opposite corner of the screen with your thumb which I could do with my op3. The k20pro is just the slightest bit slimmer and taller.
It is heavier but not by much, you’ll notice it at first but I’m sure you’ll get used to it quick.
Just imagine your op3 is all screen no bezels and no fingerprint scanner.
The balance is fine, I was abit worried at first but have started to adjust my grip. I’m sure you will too over time.
It’s just visually taller not much physically.
Only red
Don’t see an option for it, sorry.
I’m also thinking about getting the K20 pro from a OP3, how much did you get yours for? I see it retailing for around 400€ (I’m a Scot living in France) but I thought it was supposed to go for lower. I was thinking about getting the base 6Gb+64Gb as it seems enough for me.
Yes
Comes out to 360€, cool, thanks. Have you tried gcam on the OP3? If so how do you think it compares to the K20 cam? If not, nevermind, enjoy your phone 🙂
If I recall, the phone has a drop sensor that retracts the camera in the case of a drop.
It is still a solid device. Apart from the dieing battery and failing physical buttons, it’s a good daily driver. Not a lot to complain. It still has good dev support and hence stable pie roms. Camera is getting meh especially the front facing one. Other than that I’m cool.
I’d have used it another year if I could find a back panel which is no where to be found.
Ok cool
I was having issue with he screen as the screen was of local company after I broke it once. Also had to change the phone 2.5 years is more than enough.
K20pro seems to be good till now. One problem i am facing is with front camera giving fake images high yellow and reds.
With GCAM yes, can’t with the stock camera app
I just did! 3T to K20 pro!
Yeah j used gcam alot on my op3, I haven’t taken many photos yet with the k20pro so I can’t compare right now. But just quick look it is sharper and gets more detail but that’s to be expected somewhat.
Not to worry I’m sure theres some awesome people out there that will be pushing out a gcam for the k20pro soon enough.
I don’t know if I can wait that long it’s available on wonda for £403 if you don’t mind it being chinese it’s on band 20 which I need for ee very tempting.
I’ve tried that and didnt work for me. Ive just installed Android Q Beta for now. I will have to wait for miui beta or global rom for me to use this phone daily.
That’s a very reasonable price (converted it).
Check box adapter it is 27w iirc
I have not tried an LG phone but the audio output is certainly good and much better than what was on my op3
How would you test those 2 things?
If not too technical I can give it a try
I’ve edited my original post and added some quick photos, it’s raining so maybe I’ll make a video later or tomorrow.
Op3 is 3 yrs old. Remember there was no op4
I hope we get custom ROMs in the future.
Welcome.
Nope, I’ve been trying to get that but can’t do ok Google voice commands. Maybe when they release the global rom it will work
Thanks and happy cake day!!!
Is there a high quality DAC like the LG ones
It’s just okay, it’s a shell type case, not The grippiest but hey better than nothing for now.
I’ll get a more protective soft rubber one as soon as it’s available
Welcome 👍
It’s gonna take some time to get used to but I’ll be fine. It’s not the end of the world.
Yeah I can’t play any Netflix videos right now so I can’t check yet. Let you know in a few days
Okay ads must be region specific.
From India 🇮🇳
Please keep us updated after any accidental drops. 🤣 Op3 build quality was great! Never had any problems with it. Slightly nervous about build quality.
Is the back fingerprint magnet?
Can u compare charging speed of both Op3 and k20pro
Would be very helpful.
Not really, it takes a bit of force to move it at all and once it does move abit, it will automatically retract. Same if if detects a freefall
I was worried about the audio, since xiaomi phones arent so good wi5 it. But i heard this device comes with hi res audio, i hope its true
[https://i.imgur.com/j9ZL626.png](https://i.imgur.com/j9ZL626.png)
What does it mean?
Also how do I check for cam2 API?
Have you considered OnePlus 7 Pro? Or the non-pro version (aka flagship killer)?
Yes, the store applied one for me as a free gift. Just a normal one though, not tempered glass one
Have not seen the op7’s in person so I don’t know.
hey, just heard about Face Unlock being added in the latest update [Source : GSMARENA](https://www.gsmarena.com/redmi_k20_pro_miui_10_face_unlock-news-37425.php)
Have you tried it yet? please do let us know!
Thanks..
I was worried about Redmi’s build quality.. since they are not on par with Mi’s.. ( used to think)
Okay..good to hear. Good old fingerprint is the BEST really.
Don’t know about that, mine is chinese version and theres no option choose other regions.
i dont use phone without case so i wouldnt know
i also dont have the mi 27w charger so its not fair to compare. in the box they only give 18w charger
hi,
So i ran a test and the security level is L3 that means the phone can play netflix and prime video but streaming services will be capped at 480p.
Lol
Redmi has glass back (even rn7pro has back glass)
Redmi only has Plastic near display and metal frame.
Also miui is trash but oxygen os is overrated
Telling this as a owner of op3 and mix 2
Hey.
Sorry to bother you again.
Can u tell us about memory?
That is RAM Management on K20pro.
Upload screenshots if possible.
It’s good, much better than what was on the op3
No worries in audio output
I am planning to buy it from China…I am from India and currently using S8+…So basically I can choose English language and install Google Playstore and play services. Seems like a steal for me..
