i upgraded from an S23U because of the bad camera on moving subjects.
i watched the reviews and they all overhyper the 15 ultra.
camera is mediocre, insane post processing even worse than samsung, the 1inch sensor is wasted on this phone. only good thing is the 4.3 telephoto, best ive seen so far on a phone.
hyperos is the worst thing i have ever used, i come from oneui, but had an iphone 13 too and other low budget phone and they never were this bad.
i have EU version, ads everyhere that spam me all day, even with adblock on the network.
phone feels cheap with the plastic back and huge camera bump, gets extremly hot with any usage.
i was on the lastest march firmware.
Yeah my 14 ultra had more temperature spikes
Thanks for the answer!
Only stock launcher is allowed to have gesture navigation. No other launcher, including Microsoft’s, is allowed to have that option on HyperOS.
Google comes with their own bloatware so what’s your point? The camera quality is good, it’s more likely you’re just not good at taking photos.
If you’re unable to disable the 2 or 3 settings that enable ads then a Fisher Price phone would be more appropriate for you. Or an iPhone.
I’m pretty sure it’s more recommended to waste money on Xiaomi trash full of bloatware lag horrible camera quality and tons of ad spams in every app
Tensor chips are horrible, the modem is utter trash, the battery is too weak, storage options are a joke and the camera is mediocre only saved by the software. Until recently the only thing that saved the pixels was the update policy but since Xiaomi now gives up to 6 years of software support not even that is a factor now. I still have one Pixel 7 pro as productive device but it’s running Graphene OS which makes the battery life bearable.
Pixels are completely overhyped and overpriced unless you buy last year’s model.
Melbourne can and will go up and down 25 degrees in a few hours.
Whaaaat…I was there start of this year and it really wasn’t hot at all (even went to third wave lol!). But I guess things change often there.
FNQ gets insane sometimes.
That means that the 15 ultra does limit the elite processor and has a decent cooling, on the 14 ultra it is meh…
Melbourne. We have more extreme weather than up north, and one of the warmest/nicest summers in memory.
Same here in the summer, had 3 phones with the gen 3 and all of them were turning pretty hot in the summer.
Great information. Thank you! I have a question. I am contemplating getting the 15 Ultra, I’m coming from Surface Duo2 (Microsoft launcher) and from a OnePlus open (also Microsoft launcher). Will I be able to use gesture navigation (main priority), will I be able to use Microsoft launcher with gesture navigation?
Lol im in Australia, I’ve recently got back from Horn Island and was living in Airlie all summer…barely even hit 40 🤣
Where are you? Alice Springs or something?
if you are bad in taking photos even if they give you 500 mega pixels you will be bad it is skill issue.
x15u camera is amazing the best phone camera I ever used…photos look like taken in a studio
I’m in Australia where it often hits 45c and we just finished summer. No issues.
Absolute nonsense from someone who never touched the phone
I can agreed to you on some point I went from an A70 to a 13T Pro
HyperOs is optimized like shit, like I know the phone is even today’s standards still way powerful for my needs and what everyone can have (most midrange) but I really feel like HyperOS is quite restricting on the perfs side
HyperOS is the most bugged OS I’ve ever used it’s wild to see how much bugs I can see that Xiaomi never patched compared to my Samsung even though it doesn’t received any updates since 2022 I’ve never encountered any bug whatsoever
I’m in EU too so I have the EEA ROM, I don’t have any ads at first but disable everything possible
HyperOS come bloated to the bones even the music app that’s wild
The battery drain is bipolar like sometimes I can get reasonable battery life and some other I have a really mediocre battery life
The post processing some time is waaayyyy too much (when pic at 10x zoom the contrast and noise reductions is insanely cranked up to the max)
The camera are better, post processing in general is better due to better camera but like I said it can be too much
The phone overheat like hell
The fact that you get update (ROM also apps) 3 months after the Chinese release
The fact that I loose some editing functions but also have some unnecessary AI things, some are goods like the antireflection one but some are meh (I talk about the AI sky think who use that anyway?)
On the good side the screen is better than the Samsung I have
The speaker are awesome (as a person who’s really into music I really enjoy those speakers) not really loud but I reasonable in 99% of the situation (also why I choose the Pro variant the speaker are better and do not have that deep of like -6dB from 200 to 400Hz like most phone)
There are quite a few under “Themes” but those do not cover many third party apps from play store. Suppose you use an app called “abcd” which is not much popular. Every other icon will be themed except that icon and it doesn’t look pretty. You can’t even assign a custom icon to that app which is doable with third party launchers.
Basically, you got all theming freedom like any android phone, you just have to forget about gesture navigation.
If you don’t like it you don’t like it, but stop the bait. The camera is superior in every aspect to my S24 ultra. The camera is superior to the s25 ultra, just maybe the OIS is little better on Samsung, but no camera updates till now so it remains to be seen. . No ads whatsoever on my phone. HyperOS is not bad if compared with what xiaomi used to be but has room for improvement.
Thanks! Very useful.
Is there no way to use a 3rd party icon pack without a 3rd party launcher then? That’s a bit of a bummer for me
The realest man
HyperOS is smoother with better animations. I prefer the gesture controls on HyperOS over oneUI. Super wallpaper is a nice touch. Quicker boot up times from off.
OneUI has more customisation of icons, folders, layout etc. Samsung Routines is a huge loss for me on HyperOS. Goodlock for further customisation. Dual Bluetooth output. I preferred some of the Samsung default apps over the Google options. Samsung email and internet were better for me.
Only a few things actually.
1. Can not use gesture navigation with third party launchers. Which means I can not use custom launchers, icon packs from play store. If I force myself to use those, I have to use the age old three button navigation system. On Samsung, you can easily install Goodlock and use icon packs even with stock launcher, and they don’t even disable gesture navigation with third-party launchers.
2. A lot of bloatware came preinstalled on my Indian version. Even the stock xiaomi music app is a disgrace and full of irrelevant recommended contents. I debloated my phone easily with adb tools and my PC, but an average hoe will have a bad taste after buying a flagship phone with bloatwares. Even the stock message app (not the Google message app) always shows a text below every sms to enable their proprietary feature for identifying spam. I have chosen not to enable it but it annoyingly shows that below every sms thread. I don’t like Google messages either, but samsung’s stock sms app is very maturely made and has no such annoying messages/text.
That’s it, can’t remember anything else.
Google Pixel is your friend anything else is just pure trash
Interesting that you should mention camera being mediocre. I usually use my own custom profiles for the camera bit. But I must admit the camera module it runs into heating issues abit too easily.
Which camera phone did you switch out to eventually ?
If the camera is mediocre, the Samsung’s are just plain trash. No comparison.
What do you not like about HyperOS compared to OneUi? I’m debating moving from my s24 ultra too and want to know someone’s opinion who’s done the same.
Yeah. Im from a hot country where the temp usually above 36 celcius.
Same experience here. From 22U to this. My only gripe is software really, the always-on display and notification settings seem less intuitive, and some options are missing like automations or battery stats are lackluster.
But the camera, performance and battery life are miles better. Of course I’m not comparing to the 25U which would be closer in many aspects, though likely not the camera aspect really.
For me wireless charging has been fine, I was worried it wouldn’t work in my car due to the bump. But no issues, maybe some heat.
That’s cause of the elite, wonder how it will be in the summer period.
That’s crazy work . I have a 14tpro keeping it for 4-5 years hyper OS is a breath of fresh air imo
Came from S24U. 15 Ultra is a game changer. Not big fan of hyperos either but phone feels way more smoother than OneUI experience on S24U. And photos captured on my Ultra have far less overprocessing than Samsung, to the point where most photos feel like they are coming straight out of a proper camera than a HDR-ified smartphone.
My only issues is the heat lulz. Even capture video and picture for few minutes also hot. When using ai the. Its like the phone is burning already
This isn’t an airport, your departure doesn’t need an announcement.
Just to add that I’ve had the global version since release and haven’t seen an advert yet on HyperOS either.
I’d agree with some points though also having swapped from the S23U. The Samsung was still a highly capable and reliable package but I just fancied a change and was getting a good deal on trade in
Strange.
I came from Samsung (S22u) and have the EU version 15 Ultra (I’m UK based)
Cameras much better and that main wide lens knocks the socks off Samsung’s effort. The 4.3 is also equally impressive.
The back is glass fibre not plastic but I agree glass would have felt more premium.
The camera bump is a pain (especially for wireless charging) but it’s needed to house the huge sensors, it’s why Samsung won’t use their own HP9 as they choose phone slimness over photo quality
No adverts on mine
Software is buttery smooth with great animations
Only heats up under 90w charging and intensive gameplay but never too uncomfortable to hold etc. Never gets warm to touch during normal use.
In the end it’s your choice of course and you have the right to send it back, what will you get instead?
